Best hotel in the world. We've been everywhere and this hotel went so far above and beyond it's worthy of this review. From the months leading up to our stay to our initial steps into Grindlewald from the train station they thought of every way possible to make our stay extraordinary. We were there from Christmas Eve through the 30th and had the most magical Christmas. They brought a mini Christmas tree up to our room upon request so we could have an authentic Christmas morning with our kids. Staff reached out months prior to find out our son's names and then Father Christmas himself handed out personalized gifts to every child using their full names at a Christmas gathering. Even for the adults was a once in a lifetime experience. Skiing from this hotel location is a Breeze. Couldn't be a better location. The views are incredible. The pool table was one of the huge highlights of our stay. Food is amazing. Breakfast easy and divine. Can't say enough. You meet the owners and their family. You feel the love and care they put into the place. We've told everyone it's a place you must visit! read more

Beautiful hotel with an amazing view of the Eiger. The hotel is close to the train station and also provide free transfers if walking is difficult. We got pickup in a Bentley! Highly recommend getting breakfast with your reservations as their breakfast brunch is really decent. Definitely request room with view of the Eiger as the view is absolutely stunning. We also tried their cheese fondue experience in a gondola and worth the experience. read more

Views views views. Honestly the most spectacular views I've ever had from a hotel room. Service was superb, friendly and professional at every encounter. The rooms were large, beds a bit too hard (but they provided extra blankets to help me soften), pillows soft and comfy, fridge with free drinks, large balcony. We used their laundry service and our items were back early. The breakfast buffet was great with plenty of options and continually replenished. Location is slightly off the main street...very quiet area, yet an easy walk to the train station, restaurants, and shopping. Highly recommend!!! read more

Beautiful views! Thank the Lord, we got an amazing corner room with beautiful views of the mountains and the town. Their spa / hot tub is a beautiful perk, looking at the alps. Like the town, it's very touristy. I mean, we too found this hotel through Instagram haha. Their hotel dinner had a wonderful menu, and we celebrated our friend's birthday here. Everything tasted fresh and wonderful. MARINATED SALMON - was yummy and great to share. ASPARAGUS WITH HOLLANDAISE - It was asparagus season! It was sooo good with the truffle sauce. This was my favorite! TROUT - with smashed potato and whey sauce. Cooked well, great! AMERICAN RIBS - but with swiss cows so way better. Friends really liked this one! For dessert they gave us a GOLDEN BROWNIE cake for my friend's birthday. So sweet! We also got the FLOATING ISLAND which was a blind guess. It had egg white meringue with cream around it. Really interesting and tasty! Breakfast was full of choices. They have a lot of selection of cheese, including the local variety of eiger milch cheeses, so it was fun to try what my favorites were. read more

An amazing place to say the least. Staff is extremely helpful and courteous. I have stayed in many 4-5 star hotels and this had one of the best breakfast selections which is important because food honestly isn't the greatest in Swiss and it's extremely expensive. Has a nice indoor pool which comes with sauna, shower places, and a locker with a hot tub outside! Located very conveniently to the train station which is about a 5 min walk. Plenty of parking spaces are available if you drove. They speak English. And the view. My goodness. I stayed in deluxe double with the city view and it was spectacular. Late to post! We (husband and self) stayed at the Hotel Belvedere last summer, July 6-10. The front desk personnel were so kind and accommodating. We arrived in the morning, so our room was not quite ready, but they encouraged us to store our suitcases and walk around a bit. Within less than 30 minutes, our room was ready and with an upgrade. Although we did not pay the extra for an Eiger view, we had such a charming view out of our balcony window. However, our bathroom window afforded us the most picturesque view as it looked down over the town and the quintessential Swiss alpine homes. The room was nice sized for the two of us, pristine with comfortable beds and the ubiquitous comforters along with a kettle, refrig, and all the necessary items including robes and slippers. Plenty of place to hang clothes and drawer space was more than enough. The bathroom was a good size and offered the aforementioned window, which was so pleasant to open in a steamy bathroom if desired. Town was a mere 5 minutes away up a slight hill. We were told we could get a free bus ride almost outside the hotel but enjoyed the walk. The hotel is nestled on a lot that while so close to town, feels very private. The flowers were in bloom and the landscaping is serene. The hotel was very quiet although it was almost at capacity. Children were in the hotel but no loud noises or squeals. My favorite part of the hotel was by far the clean and beautiful indoor pool. As a daily swimmer, I have swum in pools of decreasing clarity and hygiene. The Belvedere's pool wins over all hotels ever, which is a lot, and pools in the U. S. and Europe. The atmosphere was Zen-like and the extras, spa, showers, and towels were lush. A close second to the pool were the abundant breakfasts in the hotel's restaurant. A virtual serve-yourself spread of breads, eggs, meats, oatmeal, fruits, pastries, hot chocolate, teas, and coffees were available in a relaxed setting looking out at the Eiger. It was hard every morning to pull ourselves away to go hiking or shopping. We had fondue one night in the hotel, which was filling and excellent. Again, the view adds to any meal in the restaurant and reservations were easily made at the front desk. If one plans in advance, which we did not, they even offer fondue meals in little Männlichen gondola, which looked so cozy and romantic! The owners, a fourth generation, I believe, hosted a canapes and champagne evening one night, which we attended. They were lovely; we stayed a few minutes and then wandered out to the magnificent wrap around porch with the sweeping views of the Watterhorn and the north face of the Eiger, and perhaps the Monch. I didn't use the hot tub but believe all three can be seen from it. The porch is spacious and has places to sit and sip a drink and couches to enjoy the views. The stay was made even more wonderful by the gracious front desk personnel, who were always accommodating to my requests. They helped me discuss the best type of train pass to get and offered suggestions for day trips. Upon our return each afternoon, we were greeted by name and welcomed back. They always asked about our day and our plans for the evening. Nothing was intrusive. It felt like we were returning home each evening. When we had an early morning departure, they offered to-go cups and wished us a lovely trip. We never felt as if we were a room number; we felt like cherished guests even though we didn't have the most expensive suite nor eat dinner every night there. They seemed to genuinely want us to enjoy our trip, do what we wanted, be available to help us with plans, and return as friends each day/night. Their extra touches like nuts and candies at the snack bar and pin cushions with safety pins illustrate their attention to detail and desire to meet their guests' needs and wants. Well done! This is our fourth visit to the Hotel Grindelwald but our first to the Belvedere. We hope to return many times in the future! PS - any questions, just ask. read more

3.5 stars. Location is right across the train station and I believe that's the huge plus. The entire facility is dated. Smallish lobby usually cluttered with luggage. The view is amazing. Front desk staffs are helpful. Dining is usually crowded specifically breakfast when they have a buffet. Coffee and tea are not in the buffet area so you have to flag down a staff and order it. We stayed here a few weeks ago--beautiful views, very friendly staff, great food- clean nice rooms. We also did the cheese fondue in Gondola outside which was so fun. ( server/ bartender was friendly & wonderful as well- always checking in on us if we needed anything) The breakfast and dinners were both fabulous as well. The local homemade butter and honey were also delicious. The breakfast had a huge spread of choices and we also loved the *very delicious cappuccino machine which made an array of drinks. Juices, bread, eggs, and tons more. For dinner we did the meat fondue ( no cheese was a broth) but with lots of vegetables as well as meats- I think it was pork- veal- and I forgot the third one. All was fabulous. They were also wonderful with any concerns with allergies in the salad dressings and food sauces. We would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel. They welcomed us upon arrival with drinks and some cakes upon check-in. Umbrellas by the door for use when it rained - and delicious chocolates upon departure too. Parking available nearby too. Greatest hotel in the Swiss alps! The restaurant is 5 stars and the salt water outdoor pool is the best after skiing or hiking all day. Do yourself a favor and have a cocktail on the balcony at the base of the mountains. The hotel staff are exceptional and help with every part of your trip. read more

Nice room and great view. We asked for pickup from the train since it was our first time and we need time to adjust ourselves with the surrounding. But the pickup never arrived. We saw the other hotel's guest get their rides. We managed to go to the front desk after we realised the hotel is quite near to the station. We asked about the pickup at the front desk the staff told me it was waiting for us at the station, but we didn't see any car with the hotel logo. The staff just shrug us off and offer half apology. Didn't stay here, but bought a day pass for the wellness spa! This was $28 and includes the outdoor hot tub jacuzzi, indoor jacuzzi, indoor pool, and all the saunas inside. The outdoor jacuzzi was AMAZING!! you get a view of the mountains outside! And for a great price. Everything was so clean and it was so relaxing. I needed this after a long day of hiking!!! We stayed at The Belvedere in Grindelwald for 3 nights of a 3-week trip I planned and booked myself. I wanted the best of the best hotels since in my opinion, a hotel and its breakfast are major parts of the experience and we may never be in these places again. Based on reviews and price, this would definitely be *that* hotel for Grindelwald. And it may well be that compared to other hotels in Grindelwald, this really is the nicest. But in general throughout the rest of our trip we were able to stay in the $400 range per night at ultra-luxe hotels with incredible breakfasts and amazing staff. This place I believe hit us $650/night and while that did include dinner for myself and two children (the others did not) there were many things about this place that were not nearly as nice as the other places we stayed: (1) Nobody showed us around the hotel on arrival. No efforts were made to advise us of the best things do or see or eat in the area. (2) While the staff was willing to book our Jungfrau tickets for us, they advised us that my son was half price (he's 7) and charged us accordingly. The ticket checkers on the bus told me I'd overpaid and should only need to pay 25 chf for him (rather than like 85 or something - even with the Swiss Travel Pass it was incredibly pricey). They asked me which hotel I was staying at and when I said this one, they said that this happens all the time specifically from this hotel and they insinuated that the hotel was pocketing the difference. While I'm not sure that that's true, it seems that at best there is some incompetency behind the desk there. (3) Which brings me to another difference between this and a true luxury hotel; the staff were very friendly but they basically struck me as kids and not true concierge professionals. (4) Another example of this was that we waited 15 minutes for the shuttle to gather us from the train station and nobody ever came - I am positive nobody came because had they come, it would have been a gray shuttle that actually said "Belvedere." Certainly if they did come, they didn't look very hard for us; the train station in Grindelwald is small and not crowded between trains. When we arrived at the hotel, they told us that the person had been there and left. But no effort was made to contact us by email or phone about this; it was lucky we could see the hotel from the stop and lucky my mom's bad knees were able to manage the walk with our luggage. (5) The sauna seemed broken. (6) The Wifi did not reach to the pool area. Thankfully my parents were with me so I was still able to work remotely up in my room while my kids swam - otherwise it would have been a big problem for me. (7) As others have mentioned, they charge for the minibar. If the price of the hotel made it more obvious that this place wasn't pretending to be a luxury hotel, that would be fine. But at these prices, it comes across as cheap and rip-offy. (8) The pillows were beyond flat. I am sure you can ask for extra pillows but that's annoying and shouldn't happen at these prices. The very best thing about this hotel is the restaurant. The breakfast is indeed worthy of a luxury hotel and comparable to what we had elsewhere for these prices (well, not quite these prices). Other than the hot chocolate which was real elsewhere and just milk with a powder packet here. The dinners were excellent and while in other cities you wouldn't want to give up the choice of where to eat in town, Grindelwald as a town seemed rather lacking and it was nice to have dinner in the comfort of our own place. The view was also spectacular. In short - great food, great view, but otherwise an average hotel for insane prices. If price is no object for your trip and you really just want the best experience available in Grindelwald then this is **possibly** still worth it for the restaurant, and possibly still worth it if none of the other hotels are any better on the other fronts. I know that Switzerland is pricey but at a certain point whatever the internal prices are, hotels are competing internationally. When we go back to Europe we'll stick to Chamonix and Annecy for the Alps experience and probably just skip Switzerland. read more

We had our anniversary weekend at the Hotel. The Hotel was great, but what made the weekend was all the special attention the staff paid to us. The dinners and breakfasts were superb. We spent a glorious long weekend at the Hotel Belvedere. It's a landmark in this town and been family managed for 3 generations. The location is steps from town. We enjoyed their breakfast buffet every day, which had lots of variety. The staff were quite helpful with things to do and the best way to do them. Gregor was super helpful. The pool, sauna, steam room and the indoor/outdoor hot tub were good fun. The view from our deck was amazing. I'd return to this place again. It is expensive, even for Switzerland, so be prepared. read more

This was our second stay at the Belvedere and as wonderful as the first time. The first visit was during ski season and this last trip in the off-season. The service was outstanding and the staff attentive. The room was spacious and hard to beat a view of the Eiger from the bedroom. The food in the casual dining room was very good and the breakfast buffet was expansive. This has become my go-to hotel in the area and a very short walk from the train station. read more
