Hotel Charlotte was amazing! From the booking to the arrival to the stay to check-out!! Finn made our experience at Hotel Charlotte so comfortable, welcoming and charming! First off, we were traveling with our dog Trooper! Hotel Was dog friendly and even welcomed him with a treat on our bed. We were traveling with two kids, two adults and a dog and the room was spacious, clean and had a B&B vibe with an awesome old school tub which my kids loved after a long day on our feet at Yosemite! Check-in was easy and personable, with accommodations for communal fridge, microwave and toaster... there was always access to coffee and tea and hot cocoa! Next to the hotel there is a restaurant open on Thursdays to Sundays, right out on your right is an authentic Mexican restaurant and on your left is an amazing breakfast coffee shop!! Down the street maybe an 8 minute walk is a wonderful creamery with yummy flavors like black licorice and taro!! Thanks Finn for a warm stay!! read more

We stayed at the Charlotte Hotel I believe on October 1st,2025. We were not disappointed and agree with all the 5-star ratings. Absolutely no complaint about the room and certainly none about the hospitality by the Owners. Parking was conveniently located behind the hotel. This hotel is a hidden gem. It's in one of the closest towns to Yosemite and it's so cool. The town has everything you need. Multiple restaurants, grocery store, coffee shop, etc. The hotel dates back to 1921 and the California Gold Rush days. The rooms are quaint, comfortable and clean. There is food onsite and they routinely have music and drinks in the back patio area. The proprietors genuinely care about their visitors, always checking in and in our case, one of us was dumb enough not to use enough sun screen in Yosemite and one of the proprietors provided aloe with lidocaine. One night stay and wished we had more nights to stay longer. A fun boutique hotel retaining a lot of it characteristics from 1921 when it was built. Checkin was efficient and friendly. Stairs only to the second floor, so we traveled light. Full bar and dining available with a patio in the back. Dinner was great and the prices are exciting, dining in the Yukon last summer was a bargain. Room was comfortable with a claw foot bathtub/shower. Door was auto-lock so always have the key near by. Amazing!we just ate at the Charlotte Restaurant the service was outstanding. They actually want you to totally enjoy your meal experience fully. Appetizers and cocktails were just the forefront to our flavorful meal. The presentation of your meal was exceptionally mouth watering then you experienced the chefs magic. The chicken was filled with so many perfectly levels of flavor each bite was a delicious reward. Desserts all around melted in your mouth. Hotel Charlotte feels like home. The team is incredibly hospitable and welcoming. Located just 30 minutes away from the Yosemite park entrance, access to the stunning Sierra landscape is quite literally in Hotel Charlotte's backyard. We stayed here for our Honeymoon and were so glad to come home to Hotel Charlotte after a long day's hike and definitely enjoyed grabbing a bite at the delicious hotel restaurant. We really love Hotel Charlotte. We first stopped in for dinner on our way home from a backpacking trip in Yosemite in 2022. The Pliny on tap (not available Summer 2024) absolutely made our day! The food was delicious, and the outdoor beer garden was just the vibe we were looking for after 5 days on the trail. This MLK weekend we finally booked a room and added "great place to stay" to our opinion of the establishment. Clean, comfortable, welcoming, charming and steps away from a great coffee place (Top of the Trail) made it our new place to stay after hiking. Book Room 14! Finn was an exceptional chap who helped me find somewhere - alas he was all full up. 100% would recommend as he was so nice and friendly. Heading home after spending the weekend at Hotel Charlotte. So much fun and such a cute place. It is a 100 year plus hotel with much charm and beauty, and the owners Finn and his beautiful wife are the perfect hosts. We felt very welcome and taken care of. A good night sleep is always really important for me and the bed and pillows were so comfortable. We slept really well. Our room and bathroom was clean and neat. It is a historic building, so don't expect a spa bathroom, but we were still very happy with it and it had everything we needed. Be sure to check out their restaurant as well, Charlotte's Tavern. Best food in town! Also, the staff is super friendly. We had a great time with talking with them. We felt like old friends being welcome back by Finn and his staff, even though it was our first time. 3.5 stars. This is a decent hotel if you're looking for a place to stay near Yosemite. I'd say it's more of an airbnb feel than an actual hotel, though. There's parking in the back, complementary coffee/tea and wifi, which are all great. The lady at the front of the hotel was also super friendly and helpful, as well! Where Hotel Charlotte missed the mark though was the cleanliness of everything. Right after we got our keys and went into our room, I noticed that there was a ton of hair on the bathroom floors and even in the tub. We notified the staff and she was super kind and swept things up. Then, when I opened the ice container, there was an Andes mint wrapper which was hard to miss (photos attached). I can understand if the area is a bit slow and understaffed during the winter season, but when the cleaning crew start to cut corners, that's not a great sign. Also, the walls here are super thin and we stayed next to the "private residence room" who had their tv on almost all day :/ There isn't a staff member here 24/7 which is a bit odd, as well. We have a few nights booked here, so I might change my mind...but first impressions matter, and Hotel Charlotte didn't leave a great one. read more

This is a lovely hotel with lots of character. The room was clean, the beds really I comfortable and the amenities like coffee and tea as well as the bath products were a really nice touch. The shower was great- good pressure, plenty of hot water which you don't always get with older historic properties. What really made it 5 stars was the host. He could not have been more helpful and welcoming. We also appreciate being able to have a one night stay for our too quick trip to Yosemite! read more

My husband and I were looking for a place to stay for 1 night in the area since he was riding with coworkers in Coulterville. We stayed in the Miners cabin. It's a perfect size room for a couple and it has a separate entrance outside. We heard random sounds in our room throughout the night but it didn't interfere with our sleeping since we spent a good amount of time at the Iron Door across the street. Also, the owner (male) has a very charismatic personality and quite funny. Would stay again. read more

We've been coming to this boutique hotel since 2018. The management has changed over the years but the hotel's charm remains. The newest management team has made some improvements with a cute restaurant and cocktail service. This will continue to be our go-to spot whenever we're visiting the Yosemite area. Really nice place. The room I got was pretty small but that is mostly because I didn't read the listing close enough (I stopped at "sleeps two"... Whoopsie . My buddy and I aren't THAT close lol) are quite small. The listings made this clear but I missed that, so heads up make sure to confirm the room will be big enough. That's on me, 5 stars for Finn, who is extremely outgoing and friendly, and the staff. Good accommodations/toiletry, clean. A little high on price, but that's to be expected in a somewhat remote small town. They also helped cater my friend's small wedding reception, thanks for the great stay guys! read more

I really like this place. A bit quirky and funky, but a pleasant stop on the way into Yosemite. It's a California Gold Rush era property listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The room was comfortable, the staff were extremely friendly, and restaurant was good. I would stay here again next time I head up to Yosmetie. read more

This review is based strictly on Finn and his unexpected customer service and understanding. I thought I had a great plan of taking the wife to watch the famous Yosemite firefall for valentine weekend and stay at Hotel Charlotte after. Well Mother Nature had other plans, it was overcast so there was no fire on the falls that sunset & it got quite cold making my wife feel under the weather. She just wanted to go home at this point. Leaving Yosemite we attempted to call and let Hotel Charlotte we won't being staying with them, not looking for a refund but simply out of courtesy, but there was zero cell reception. So driving back to Stockton I mentioned we will be passing right by the hotel, so we could stop by and let them know in person. And we were so glad we did. The hotel looked so cool very clean and nicely restored building that I bet has some amazing history to it. There is a nice gathering area in the back next to guest parking, a cool looking bar when you walk in and Finn gave us a very warm welcome. He asked if everything was ok and why we are not staying, after our story Finn unexpectedly went above and beyond credited us for a stay in the future and wishing my wife a speedy recovery. Unfortunately, I'm writing this review without yet having had the opportunity to stay here: we were looking forward to a relaxing stay at the cute town of Groveland on the drive back from Yosemite. But while hiking, my husband sustained a foot injury for which we needed to seek urgent care, which required us to cut our trip short. Passing by Hotel Charlotte on the rushed drive home, we stopped by to let them know we wouldn't be spending the following night there. As we were well within their cancellation period, I didn't expect any money back. But as they were super friendly when I booked on the phone with them in advance, I wanted them to have the opportunity to potentially fill the room with a last-minute reservation. Finn, at the front desk, was incredibly friendly and understanding, and issued a gift certificate for a future visit - which I neither expected nor asked for. And getting a glimpse of the charming interior from this brief visit, we can't wait to make a trip back out to use it! Such a cute place and the folks who run it are so sweet. Old-fashioned feel with super comfy beds. After the Iron Door (which has delicious steaks, by the way) we had a nightcap at the Charlotte Lounge and chatted with Brennen and Finn (the people who run the hotel) while their adorable baby girl, Sawyer, played. The coffee shop across the street is fantastic, as well. The perfect little small lodging town experience for Yosemite adventures! read more

HORRIBLE customer service. We just waited a good 15 minutes at the abandoned desk, trying to find and ask staff for another blanket. Then waited on hold on the phone for over 5 minutes, trying to reach someone for said blanket. We tried re-calling, and they hung up on us. Then they let the phone just ring and ring. When I looked at reviews, I got the mistaken sense that this is more of a B&B. There are a LOT of rooms, and they are small and tightly jammed into this old building. The walls are paper thin; if you want bedroom action, expect an audience. The complimentary coffee is beyond burnt. Old pipes mean scalding hot water alternating with frigid cold. And the hot water runs out fast. The AC unit is like having a very loud roommate. I was so cold because the bedding is too thin. Free wifi is really slow. Noise from the downstairs cafe certainly carries up to the rooms. read more

Check in- The front desk guy was so friendly. Room - Was very clean, and the beds were very comfortable. Noise - We had never been too this hotel, didn't know how the noise level would be. Our room was behind the front desk check in. They have guest restrooms at the end of the hall from our room. The restaurant is also in the hotel. So all the guests who visit use the restrooms. The restaurant closed at 9. A lot of families with children, so it was extra loud. The noise stopped right at 10pm. I'm sure the parents wanted their time to themselves. Morning Noise - We were awakened by children screaming in the hallway at 7:30. ( no parents around) Breakfast- We left around 9:30 and there wasn't anything left to eat. They have muffins and donuts for the guests. It was an empty basket. Conclusion - We really loved this place. Next time that we stay here we will get a room upstairs. The restaurant was wonderful. The people were wonderful. We would definitely recommend this place. read more

Didn't get to stay at the same location since we rented a 3 bedroom house close by. But we did make it here for dinner and it was delicious! Owners and staff made us feel welcomed and were accommodating! The hotel is very kid friendly too. We were glad we chose to dine at their restaurant the Tavern which was convenient with a great menu selection, fresh vegetables, and excellent homemade ice cream. We were just glad they took us with no advance reservations. It was a busy night but service was flawless. They serve the best sweet potato fries and my daughter and I loved the toffee coffee ice cream flavor. Everything was reasonably priced too. Perfect location for a girlfriends getaway! My daughter and my girlfriend loved all the rooms and comfortable beds. Recommend the upstairs next to a lovely outdoor patio. We definitely will be back! We were glad we found this hidden gem. We loved Mountain Sage for coffee and pastries and Pizza Factory. Our only regret was not being able to stay longer in Groveland. read more

We have stayed at the Hotel Charlotte for almost two decades. One of the best pet friendly places to stay in all of California even providing us a room with our dogs own bed and lots of treats!! The food is So Good with quality ingredients thanks to the extraordinary chef. I recommend the Salmon! Wow! Cooked to perfection! We've gone through several owners and it's always been a pleasant stay. Finn, the current owner, is exceptionally passionate about maintaining Hotel Charlotte's historical character while making necessary improvements for quality of stay and comfortability of guests. His devotion to the inn is authentic and endearing. We have enjoyed chatting about its history, character and future plans, as well as just getting to know Finn as an all around pretty cool guy and someone we can now call a friend. Hotel Charolette continues to hold a character that so many Inns are have lost over the years which is personalized service and a connecting environment! Great place to eat in Groveland. Have not been disappointed the two time we have gone. The new owners know what they are doing and work really hard to please you. Even though it's mostly self service it doesn't feel like it cause once you order the come by many time to check if if there anything you need. Also clear your table if needed. Hotel Charlotte is in Groveland, about a half hour (20 miles) from Big Oak Flat, the northern entrance to Yosemite. It is not the glamorous entrance into the valley, but is less used, closer to the Bay Area, and has shorter lines. There is a very large, newer hotel that's closer to the park, but it's about twice the price. Hotel Charlotte is in an old building that's been upgraded to still be charming and romantic but with modern amenities like air conditioning, new windows that are well soundproofed and a modern bathroom complete with whirlpool tub. There is free coffee and tea 24 hours a day. The staff is courteous and will take care of all your needs. They gave me great tourist advice. Would stay there again. One negative is that the door to my room was old and not very noise proof. Very easy to hear people in the hallway. This was in a downstairs room; maybe the upstairs rooms are better? read more

Not a 5 star hotel but not advertised as such! I felt like what was promised was delivered for a reasonable price compared to some of the big resorts in the area. The Hotel was able to accommodate an early check in for us too. Be aware that it's not a typical hotel as someone is not at the front desk at all hours of the day but there was plenty of communication prior to arrival regarding check in etc... I found the room decor to be cozy, room very clean, and the bed was comfortable. read more
