Stunning hotel located 15 minutes from downtown area. The Glenlo Abbey was a former church and…read moreestate with over 140 acres. I wish we were able to enjoy the hotel a little longer. We were able to explore the church and the bars. There are multiple bars including a lounge with a live piano player. The staff is so kind and welcoming. From checking in, providing us with a tour of the facility to bringing our luggage to our room before we even got there. Once we got to our room, there was complimentary chocolates, coffee, tea, water, and Irish biscuits. Typical of many hotels but this was next level. The coffee was nepresso with Irish shortbread cookies. We have our option of sparking or still water. The box of Glenlo Abbey chocolates was such a nice touch too. We booked the bed and breakfast option through Hilton. Unfortunately, we had an early flight and had to skip breakfast. At checkout, the front desk brewed fresh coffee and served us on a beautiful tray with milk and sugar. Not only did they make us coffee, they helped us with our bags all the way to our car. Truly a magical experience.

The rooms themselves are rather neutral in colors and furnishing with the typical features of today's hotels-bedside power ports, sleek modern bathrooms and thick fluffy comforters on a very firm bed. We arrived for our two night stay in a typical Irish misting rain and our car was immediately met by a bell captain and staff with umbrellas who grabbed the bags and escorted us inside for the handoff to the front desk. Fast talking Chiara got us our paperwork, signed us in and whisked us off to our smallish "superior" room up on the top floor. Having booked via Chase we were "eligible for a room upgrade" if available-(in my experience they are seldom available-and in fact I'm always a bit skeptical if you don't get a room down-grade for not booking direct.) In any case, our warm and somewhat stuffy room looked out on the expansive golf course and Michelin recognized Pullman restaurant. Not sure what made this room superior (maybe the view?) as it was on the small size and felt crowded. The view wasn't worth the price premium. The bathroom was updated and had a nice shower plus a tub but only a single sink-not a double. The property is located just outside Galway and they have ample free parking available at the hotel. The breakfast buffet was the typical spread found in all European hotels plus a few hot items that you could order-fine but nothing outstanding. Our meal at the in house Palmers was somewhat disappointing too and most of the restaurant staff here are teenagers trying to figure out how to be servers. They are trying hard but the inexperience shows. I think the best way to sum it up - is the Glenlo felt to me like a Marriott golf resort with a castle facade. Having stayed in several true castle hotels on our visit to Ireland this one pales in comparison. Don't get me wrong, if you're a golfer you'll probably be thrilled with the place but for me it was nothing all that special.

Too small and too hot to be comfortable…read more Our room is too hot sleep in. We complained about how hot the room was but front desk said they only have 2 or 3 rooms with A/C (is that true??). They said to use a supplies fan, so we have the window open with a noisy fan, but it is still very hot and the fan is super noisy. Our room is also incredibly small. We barely fit in here with our luggage. It's really small!! We asked if we could upgrade to a larger room and they said "no"... our room has a "standard layout" (again I am questioning if I am being told the truth). Also, they gave us an accessible room with a bathroom that has no enclosed shower/tub and then claimed that was a standard room for the hotel (once again feeling like I'm being swindled). There is also no sink space or shelf to place toiletries of any kind. We feel very cheated for a room that was much more expensive than the nice hotels we stayed at in Dublin and Killarney. Positives: Location is great and enjoy the attached pub.

Located in the Latin Quarter, the heart of Galway. Such a convenient and lively location!…read more A smaller hotel with an elevator if you are bringing a lot of luggage like us. We stayed here for a couple nights during the week. We were worried about the potential noise however the live music stopped at around 11pm so we had no complaints there. Perhaps the noise is longer on weekends but we didn't see it as an issue during our weekday stay. The room was clean, and had complementary water bottles. The TV was also great and allowed us to sign in to our Netflix and YouTube for streaming on the big screen. The room was on the smaller side but enough space to at least open up our big luggage and carry on. We got discounted parking as well from the hotel, which helped as parking in the city was expensive. Did not get the chance to visit the bar in the hotel in the evenings but we heard really good live music!
