A hotel with history. We didn't realize it was a party hotel until after we booked. Was a little bummed about that, but we were so tired we just fell asleep despite the loud music and crazy people drinking and screaming. The shower was super old.. although the whole aesthetics are beautiful, functionality is definitely not there. The water was a trickle and the knobs were confusing to use. Would we stay here again? Probably not, but it was an experience, had we not been dead tired and fell right asleep this review would probably have less stars. read more

Great location and fun venue/bars but I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you want to be treated like a child. I was in Tucson for the UofA football game this past weekend and some other friends were staying down the street but were not allowed to come up to our our room. I'm in my 40s so my partying days are behind me and the insinuation that I couldn't be trusted to behave myself in a room I paid a couple hundred bucks to rent for the night was pretty offensive. If the hotel has issues with partying I suggest they invest in security instead of treating adults like they're naughty children. read more

This place is soooooo cool! Lived in Tucson all my life and moved away 5 years ago. Visited the hotel/Tap Room last weekend for the first time in years and love that it has hardly changed!!! Have seen many musical performances there and spent many late nights at the Tap Room. You can't replicate the history and the cool vibe there. It's just the kind of humor our dads would have enjoyed. I've been to a couple of Bloody Mary bars in town and I think Hotel Congress' bar rates among the best. Grab an order sheet, put your name on it and pick your poison. First choose your alcohol: vodka, gin, tequila or beer (michelada)....make it a double for just $1 more. The drink already comes with celery, olives and citrus so you can then select 4 more add-ins from the long list. I went with horseradish, artichoke, dill pickle and bleu cheese. Next you select the level of heat: none, medium, hot and Tucson hot (a mixture of habanero and green salsa). Select how you want your rim: nothing, salt, pepper or S&P. And the overall vibe in the room is fun and funky. Comfy places to sit and on this particular day there were a couple of musicians performing for those in the bar. Amazing place! food and drinks are awesome. The service was great and super friendly. While we waited for a table we got drinks at tiger bar on the other side of the hotel! The man is older but don't let that deceive you. He makes amazing drinks and super funny and on top of things! They named the bar after him and he been working for the place for over 60 years that is amazing. When we got a table our server was Mariah. Staff are very friendly. the hotel is old like 90yo at the time of the review. 1st no elevator (didn't see one) went there for the el tour de Tucson ride/race. had to up early. get there and they inform me bands on there patio play till 2 am. I am a light sleeper so I got 2.5 hours of sleep. did t know this when I booked. no refunds for noise. next no tv, no usb chargers. they showers are very tiny and the water temp is very inconsistent. The rooms are clean. the keys are just a key. you get one with a heavy key chain. if your older and want to relax dont recommend . if you want to party and need no sleep stay there! also no coffee in room. they may or may not set up coffee down stairs it's a coffee pot with sugar only. well anyway this place is not for me. read more

My daughter and I stayed at Hotel Congress in Tucson, Arizona on 11/06/2022 in room 200. Initially the stay was good but a little noisy. As we were checking out, my daughter took a picture of the room from the hallway with the key in the door. As it turns out, that would later serve as proof that someone had stolen her necklace. We checked out and went on an excursion when my daughter realized her necklace was missing. She called the Hotel and explained to them that she thought her necklace was left hanging on the bedpost. The staff said they checked the room and it wasn't there. Then my daughter found a picture of the interior of the room that she had taken earlier. When she zoomed in, there was the necklace on the bedpost just as she has reported. We asked to speak to the maid that had cleaned the room but the hotel manager refused to give us the name of the maid saying that they were not at liberty to divulge that information. We are in the process of reporting this to the police. read more

this place is a joke. Apparently it's a very good music venue but the fact that they have hotel rooms upstairs and called a hotel is a joke. The music is very loud until very late. In your bed above, you will be shaking, and if you go to the bathroom, you'll be hard-pressed to use the toilet without whacking into the tiny sink and shower jammed into one small space. But the worst of all, and something they never mentioned to you, is it your bedroom just a few feet from a cargo train running around the clock 24 hours a day. This is more of a 3.5 stars, but I'm not much of one to round up. $3 drinks 4:30-6:30pm and $5 appetizers 4:30pm-close? Yes, please! I recommend the pork belly mission food tacos (2 for $5), and the short rib slider was also pretty tasty (1 for $5). Happy hour is out on the patio, in the lobby, or in the Taproom. Cup Cafe has it's own happy hour pricing/menu. The HH appetizers change from time to time, so what is posted on the website may differ from the actual menu. The prices are right, but it was kinda strange sitting in an empty hotel lobby that is straight up from the olden times. Be aware that you will not be able to sleep because of thumping, loud music plays until 2am. My room was directly above the bar. I have never had such a terrible experience at a hotel. The rooms are quaint but no TV and only one outlet in the entire room which was behind the bed and very hard to get to. Hard to charge my phone after a long day of travel. No outlet in the bathroom! Mixed bag here. History of this place is incredible and it has a really nice ambiance and old-world charm. However when they say "we are a noisy hotel" that really means you'll be listening to a live DJ outside your window which has 0 soundproofing even on weeknights (not sure how this isn't a noise ordinance violation). I had my fancy Bose SleepBuds for white noise in and turned up all the way and still couldn't fall asleep until the music stopped. Don't stay here if you're a light sleeper! read more

By far, worst hotel experience I've ever had. High level overview: - noisy - creaky spring bed - poor plumbing - ALL THE INFERNAL NOISE I checked in at 6:30 pm or so, and checked back out at 12:30 after several aborted attempts at sleeping. My first impression of the room is that it had some odd artwork on the walls which was Halloween or horror movie inspired, so that got turned backwards so I didn't have strange black and white print of a lady in black smeared makeup staring at me. If you're into having the girl from The Grudge leer at your while sleeping, definitely check into room 218. The bed sounded like it was made out of rusty springs. If you're a heavy sleeper, this might be your thing. The floors are uneven, which I suppose is par for the course for old buildings, but I guess it doesn't matter if you're stumbling in there drunk at 2:30 am. The bathroom is so small you literally cannot turn around in it. You'll have to use the toilet sitting sideways. As a short person of 5'4, there wasn't even enough room between the wall for my knees. The shower plumbing also behaved as if haunted. It took a bit to adjust it to where it was hot enough which involved fiddling with the knobs in millimeter increments. It ran hot and cold, then stone cold and scalding hot, then turned off abruptly while I was still in it. At least it was still nice and humid in there four hours later as there seems to be zero ventilation... Caddy-corner to the hotel is a bar with a very large, very loud open patio thanks to which I was treated to Kesha and Britney at midnight. Downstairs, drag queens were having a blast in the bar, a guy was doing his best George Michael "Careless Whisper" rendition on the patio, and students were lining up through both doors and wound around the block to get in and form what was in my mind the worst violation of maximum occupancy I have ever seen. I reiterate that this was at midnight. The noise was deafening. Felt bad for the sole police officer relegated to wrangling that mess. The bar opposite the drag queen ladies has a nice, divey feel and good cheap drinks but unfortunately trying to sedate myself into unconsciousness didn't work, so at midnight I fled for the quiet of the hotel whose name argues it is not the worst in the east. All this said, you ARE warned upon check in that this is an "urban hotel" and multiple lines on your waiver indicate the noise level, although the fact that even the earplugs nicely supplied by the hotel in your medicine chest, as highly sound blocking as they are, do nothing to block out the sounds of 10,000 party guests all under age 30 downstairs. So, while it's not like I wasn't adequately warned, I was still pretty cranky by the time I eventually grabbed my stuff and checked out. The clerk who checked me out gave a farewell in the form of "You're all set!" but didn't ask how my six hour stay was, how things went, whether I would ever be back. Not if John Dillinger himself came after me! Cliff's notes version: If you're there to party, have fun! If you're there for a nice, restful night's sleep, there's a lovely parking garage about 100 yards to the west which they will gladly validate parking for for $6. Stay in your car instead. read more

YES he could! That was a really good choice for my husband and myself, and we really enjoyed it. Actually, it is one of the best flavored Burgers we have had. And then.. The waiter asked if we would like to try some vegan cheesecake! I say vegan, he says cheesecake! So of course we said yes to that. This is a really interesting, old-fashioned & beautiful hotel. It's 100 years old, & it hasn't been remodeled in over 80 years. The 1930's style rooms are stunning, but it took me a while to get used to. There aren't many electrical outlets. I had to move the bed to charge my phone. However, I didn't mind not having a TV. I'm not a huge fan of television anyways. I think we all need a break from it every now & then. I loved the minimal nature of my room. The bathroom was small & cute. The beds were plushy. I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud. I absolutely love the vintage aesthetic of the hotel. The hallways, the carpets, the old wood & the decorations are stunning. If I ever return to Tucson, I'll stay here again. read more

So much history here! It is conveniently located across the street from the Amtrak station. While waiting for my brother to get in town, I went here for a quick drink. It's dimly lit, huge outdoor seating area and small hotel lobby bar. Most customers at the bar were not hotel guests. Great service, great pricing, and cool atmosphere. The novelty of this place is great. The hotel is downtown in the middle of everything and it has a pretty cool history. The rooms are very small and outdated, but it adds to the charm of the place. When booking, it's definitely made clear that this is a noisy place. That was no problem, we were planning on going to a wedding anyhow and just planned on coming back to pass out. Something that really made this stay awful was hearing multiple children younger than 10 years old running up and down the hall banging on walls and doors after midnight. When we asked their parents to please control them, their classy dad screamed at them to shut the eff up and go back to the room. Nice parenting, and that really didn't solve anything because they were back at it a few minutes later. We were prepared for noise. We brought a white noise maker and ear plugs, but nothing helped. Worst sleep ever, and I wouldn't recommend staying the night here. It would have been pretty nice if the staff tried stepping in any point, as it's pretty weird that kids can just be left unattended in the hotel common areas/halls after midnight. read more

I am old, both in age and spirit, but I enjoyed my recent 4 night stay at the Hotel Congress. When I called ahead to ask about two room options, the person I spoke to told me that basically the rooms are either loud or louder. This is a hotel with an active nightlife with either bands or DJs playing most nights until 2am. I asked for a loud (rather than louder) room, and was given one that faced the back patio area. It was loud. I am not sure how the louder rooms could be any louder. But I never had any trouble falling to sleep - I just pretended the thump of the club music the DJ was playing was white noise. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay. The front desk staff were amazing, from the moment we checked in and they made sure we knew what we were in for, to when we checked out at 5am and they made sure we had fresh coffee to go. Every time we came into or exited the hotel, they were attentive to us. All questions were answered happily. Stories about the hotel were shared. The rooms are modest - we had a full bed, small desk, dresser and chair. NO TV, NO PHONE. But we were out having so much fun in the hotel and Tucson we didn't even miss it. When we needed ice, they brought ice up to us. When we needed a hair dryer, they brought one up to us. The Tap Room and the lobby bars make good drinks and cheap compared to many places even in North Carolina. The Cup Cafe offers a hearty and diverse breakfast menu. If you want a quiet, boring hotel, there are plenty of chain hotels in Tucson. If you want a fun experience, check out the Congress. read more

We were so excited to stay at this historic hotel. We love places like this , saw the pictures , and we were amped up. Upon entering the hotel we were put into an awkward situation , there is nowhere to really stand to check in. When we did reach the front desk we were interrogated by a desk clerk who lacked any type of people skills. We actually should have went with our gut feeling and left after the rudeness we were subjected to. Dude....you are a desk clerk , not a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier , check the attitude. When you reach the top of the stair case the stench of urine immediately accosts your senses. The room was not too bad , the window did not lock so we did not feel comfortable with that. We were scheduled to stay two nights. After the 1st night we left because the music was so loud and it went past 2 am It did seem as if the band was right there in the room with you. If you are cool with staying in your grandma's basement, that reeks of cat pee while your uncle has a jam session with his garage band until dawn , then this is the venue for you. We could not get out of there fast enough. read more

This review is pure nostalgia for a place where I had some of my most enjoyable meals and tea/dessert pairings in Tucson. I loved their preservation of the building's history but everything else was always, always, always first-rate as well. Wherever you live it's always great to know of a local restaurant which never disappoints - whether you just need/want a little morale lift for yourself or are introducing someone new to it. Mine were all afternoon visits so I can't vouch for their rooms or musical events - my idea of nightlife is stargazing in some remote spot to a concert of "rushing creek, popping campfire, crickets and night birds." So my only brush with one of this venue's events was accidentally wandering too close to the concert entrance area one late, darkening afternoon and encountering a brutish security guard who looked like he wanted to tackle me for it - well, you might have people who try to sneak in but I wasn't one of them you cretin! But that's pretty typical security guard behavior, I'd never reduce a rating for that unless it was an ongoing thing. I'm planning a visit to Tucson this year and this will be my first stop; Cafe Poca Cosa my second (AMAZING food) - have missed them both so much!! read more

The food was fantastic! We went at brunch time, Saturday, and did not have a reservation. We were quoted 35-40 min. Wait, but it was much shorter. We enjoyed the build your mary, while waiting. Very good & we felt $11 was a fair price for the custom drinkie. Mu hub had the King Club. He liked it, but felt he should have just asked for regular mayo. Just his personal preference, and the really helpful staff would have brought it. I had the Braveheart...brisket, eggs benedict. So very good! Best lemon meringue pie ever. Was here today for a wedding and was trying to go upstairs to the room of the bride. The man with a brown hair, a beard, and glasses at the front desk asked for our room number, and without checking the guest list promptly told us we weren't on it after looking us up and down. He did not suggest any way to help us get to the brides room at all. He said to my friend and I, "didn't you see the sign? It's our policy" with a laugh, pointing to a sign that was not easily visible. He turned his back to us and began pretending to look busy. Horribly rude and very unprofessional. Definitely will not return to this establishment. Finally when more people came for the wedding he obliged letting us go up to the room. The hotel needs to ensure that their workers are friendly and helpful and not treating patrons like they come from off the street. read more

There aren't too many vegan options though because their beyond burger doesn't come with a vegan bun :( Drinks are a little spendy.
