Nice hangout spot with a cute lounge downstairs, but more notably, an eventful rooftop club space. What I love: Catching entertainment upstairs, especially during the day. When it's not too hot out (and lets be honest, I persevere even in the summer) I've really enjoyed watching drag shows, or even stumbling onto daytime dance parties. You can try coming here late at night, but it's a totally difference scene and a really long line. Still fun! What I like: I like the idea of having an actual brunch here, even though I haven't tried the food yet. I'm just glad it's an option here. I loved this place. I found them on TikTok once I discovered we'd be heading to Tucson. They had a pretty packed rooftop as some of the students were having an event for parents. Right now the Hub and Playground are combined and serving food out of the Playground. It wasn't busy at all today, Sunday, for lunch. I was extremely impressed with the food and service. My water was constantly being filled and the teamwork really stood out. I had the sesame ginger salad and it was the best salad I've had in a long time. I added shrimp for an extra $10 and there were only 5 shrimp, so that was disappointing. Turned out to be a very expensive salad, although I did really enjoy it. There are tons of TVs with the games. The servers have been very attentive and the bar food is worth a try. I was there for the R&B Rooftop vibe event which was so much fun. If available I highly recommend their mimosa tower /$50, it's 2 bottles worth of alcohol and at that time you have an option of pineapple, cranberry or orange juice. I've been here multiple different times for different events (usually upstairs). Today I saw that they decorated for the holidays and had some holiday drinks so I stopped by. I sat inside and I had the prime rib fries, a yuletide 75 (gin drink) and for dessert I had a scoop of the salted caramel ice cream (delicious!). This bar was the third stop on my Saint Patrick's Day excursion in Downtown Tucson and honestly it was a very brief one, but it was a pleasant experience because (oddly) it was louder on the outside. Inside was nice and spacious and the music was loud but not horrendously loud so you couldn't hear anybody. The bartender was quick to take and make orders (which we had a baby Guinness shot and a tequila shot), so we were out as quickly as we were in! We arrived right at noon, we had made a reservation but once on the rooftop we couldn't figure out why! The seating was scarce, didn't seem like enough and insufficient tabletops for brunch. We ordered from the bar first, I ordered "if you're drinking this, it's too late." For $10 I wasn't impressed! The bartender touched everything from the ice to our straws with her bare hands while making our drinks. After paying for our drinks we found a table and waited a while for the waitress. Once she arrived she was great but the food... I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was delicious! However, the french toast sticks were burnt, like inedible so we sent them back. What a fun spot to come and hang out and dance the night away. The best part of this place is the rooftop bar which is so wonderful. Our only suggestion is that techno does get a little tiring. We came here for G3 and sat downstairs at first and listen to some really good music until the karaoke started. We headed upstairs to the lounge area, but after about an hour and a half of techno, we decided to leave and try some thing else. The suggestion would be to vary the music a little bit according to the crowd. The crowd before 10 PM is usually 50 and up to 70 something in age so maybe a little more variety would be good. Other than that the staff is awesome, the manager came around and introduced himself to everybody, and the bartenders are really attentive and on the money. My friends and I went out to have a good night and at the end of the night we were just getting ready to leave when another drunk guy attacked my friend and knocked my best friend stunned. Security didn't go after the guy just shouted "if you keep fighting we'll get the cops". I love the new remodel! I had dinner in the lower outdoor patio and it was so nice! The outdoor patio had a great ambience and was perfect to enjoy drinks and a meal with friends. The appetizers were good. I really enjoyed some of their specialty cocktails! There's a large variety to choose from so you can get something different every time you come. Upstairs, there is a fun outdoor dance floor later in the evening. The DJ was okay but the vibes were great! We had so much fun dancing the night away. There are multiple bars to order drinks at while taking a break from dancing your heart out. After finally finding a table with chairs, service was slow to order drinks and when we finally ordered, drinks were like juice and ice, ordered rye cherry limeade and it had very little vodka. I wish I could give it a higher review because the environment was amazing and the service was so good but our food and drinks just weren't that good. We ordered spinach artichoke dip, seared beef skewers, and the fried Mac n cheese. I can't say the food was overall just bad but it lacked much needed flavor/seasoning/salt in my parties opinion. Super fun place! A friend and I stayed at the AC Hotel across the sidewalk and wandered in here to have a drink and a bite in the late afternoon. Hub, yes! Playground? No! Did I fall and bump my head? No, I don't think so. Read further. Since the construction is wrecking some of the downtown and Fourth Avenue businesses, a friend and I decided we would travel downtown to get some appetizers and a drink or two. We chose Playground. She'd been once; I'd never been. When we arrived, there was a private party upstairs and I got that inner glow that comes with community pride. I was pleased to see so many people with the same idea to invest some time on the downtown scene. What I noticed right away was that I really liked the feel of the space. I didn't care for the TVs near the bar, but I love that the bar takes center stage. I found the décor to be contemporary and welcoming. Love the hanging green, wall to ceiling, toward the back. Gorgeous locale. We took a seat. I had a chance to sit in one of those large black chairs. Comfortable and comforting. Everything was going well. Our greeter came right away to say hello and to provide the menus, which are designed in the form of composition handbooks. Nice touch. She then told us our server would be right with us. Sweet! Now, there must have been about six other people downstairs. Granted, the party upstairs was on in a big way, but we did see a couple of staff members floating around. We weren't sure who our server was, but we kept looking around every time someone would pass. No matter that the server didn't come right away. We were still browsing the menu. Nearly 10 minutes passed before our server arrived and asked if we would like water. We did. She left for another few minutes. We had a few questions and, when she returned, my friend allowed me to ask first. I wanted to know if the Chardonnay was oaked because, if it wasn't, I was going to try one of their cocktails. At that moment, the server pointed at the menu and, no lie, said: "The name of the wine is right there on the menu." The echo reverberated in my head: "...right there on the menu...right there on the menu...." In my mind I said, "Uhhhhh, OK." I proceeded to tell her that I wasn't familiar with the label and that I preferred full-bodied, buttery wines. She told me she would go ask about it. She returned more quickly this time, but she told me she wasn't sure if it was oaked. Insert: Long, deep, frustrated sigh. I asked if I could have a taste. She said sure and left. Now, my friend is still waiting patiently to ask her question. Never during this fiasco did the server ever ask if she wanted anything. It was at that point we began considering leaving. All told, we'd been at the establishment nearly 20 minutes. When our server returned she pulled the fatal drive-by: She slid the wine glass onto the table and kept walking, all without stopping. I gave my friend the eye. The Chardonnay was a bit too bright for me, so I considered a cocktail. But as we sat there talking about the utterly weird experience we were having, finding that yet again we were waiting and waiting for our server, we decided to just leave. We opted for a different downtown establishment, one with better service. At this moment, I have no interest in ever returning to the Playground, but I do suggest you check it out if you haven't. It is a wonderful concept, and is the kind of scene that adds to downtown. And while we never had a chance to order anything, the dining options sound delicious and, at times, fun. There were a few things on the menu that I had not seen on other menus in town. I just hope you have much improved service. read more
