Very nice hotel with exceptional location to Ford Field and Comerica Park for Lions and Tigers games ... just a couple block walk. Located in an old downtown office building with a four-story atrium, they've converted the offices on the first 5 or 6 floors into hotel rooms. The rest of the building is converted into residences ... and nice ones at that. We were here for a Tigers game on a nice warm Friday night. The hotel and surrounding area were really jumping. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating, if a litte overwhelmed on a game day ... the first room they assigned us was already occupied. After straightening that out, it was pretty smooth sailing. Nice appointments in the rooms, comfortable bed, great views of the baseball park. Valet took care of the car, so we could just walk to the game and not have parking problems. There is a dining facility off the atrium (Preseley's Kitchen & Bar), so once you're here you can stay. All in all a nice setup and visit ... just keep in mind you're downtown and near a MLB park ... so for sleeping at night, it is very noisy. read more

We travel into Detroit frequently for Plays, Shows, Concerts and Sporting events. We enjoy staying at the different hotels that have opened up downtown over the past few years during the renaissance. Their are many, all have been great, each one has provided a unique experience. We must say however that the Hotel David Whitney, may have just risen to the top of our favs list! Credit the Roxbury Group for their vision in restoring this historic property to prominence. From the moment you enter, you can feel the elegance with the furnishings and appointments that adorn the lobby. The Library Lounge is a warm, cozy spot to enjoy a cocktail by the fireplace, while on this occasion, listening to Sasha, a pianist, playing enjoyable music, created a very relaxing ambiance. The hotel also has a restaurant, Presley"s that serves Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Our room was very nicely appointed with comfortable furnishings. The bed was very comfortable. Staff at every level was very attentive, friendly and seemed to go out of their way to insure a great experience. This property definitely provides an upscale experience which made our stay very enjoyable. We will be back and do recommend this property. read more

Beautiful in every sense. From the lobby, to the bar(s), to the room, and everything in between. It is an astonishing, well kept, historic building. Every employee we encountered was so kind and helpful. They even gave us some postcards to send back home! We chose this hotel due to the proximity to Comerica Park, and it couldn't have been better! It is a few minutes walk. Oh, and our favorite part - there is a "people mover" stop right here! That was a nice alternative to Ubers. read more

This place is absolutely beautiful! The front desk person that checked me in wasn't the friendliest but he did give me an upgrade for being platinum, so that will make up for it. Other than that, all the other staff was very friendly and accommodating. It has a great location. Now, I think it's haunted because I could not sleep at all. I could hear a bunch of noises the whole night. Every time I'd close my eyes, I could hear things moving around in the bathroom. Would probably stay here again but not alone lol! read more

My husband and I have stayed here twice. Once in 2022 and once in 2024. In those two years, there have been a number of renovations to the building, and they are still ongoing. Where there used to be an art gallery is now Presley's, an incredible restaurant. The Library, a small bar with large attached lounge area is warm and cozy and offers live piano music. This lounge area is also where you'll find Reception. The main lobby area is beautiful and comfortable with plenty of space to socialize or relax. Our room, though on the smaller side, had everything we needed and was very enjoyable. There was a bar cart, coffee cart, desk space, large screen tv, side chair and ottoman, extremely comfortable bed with phone charging ports in the side lamps and spacious shower. The general feel of the hotel is artistic, classy and intimate. Perfect for a couples getaway! The location is great, within walking distance to restaurants, entertainment venues and local points of interest. There is also free public transportation which hits stops about every 15 minutes. While there is public parking available close to the hotel, valet parking is available and a nice option when staying in the colder months. If you're staying in downtown Detroit, I would highly recommend staying at the historical Aloft. Truly a beautiful and enjoyable experience every time. read more

This is such an amazing hotel. It nice to just hang out in the lobby and look at the Architecture and enjoy the light from the massive skylight. The staff is courteous and helpful. We have stayed here before but this year upgraded to a suite. The suite is like having a one bedroom apartment. I am looking forward to doing my laundry before I go home. Laundry in the suite? Why yes and it is awesome! The living room is comfortable and great for watching college football games on Saturday before my marathon. I have stayed in other Aloft Hotels but this is my favorite. Unfortunately the gym is under construction but you can got to a partner hotel nearby but I am too lazy to do that. I guess a couple of days not working out will be ok. The Marathon on Sunday will just have to be enough. I am sure I will be staying here on my next visit to Detroit. read more

Made a reservation at this hotel 2 months in advance and received an email the night before our stay (literally 5:45 at night apparently but we never found the email) that went to spam that we never got that they gave our rooms away. Most likely for the yankee players and family that were playing across the street. They moved us to their "sister" hotel that they said was 4 blocks away but was actually about 16 blocks away. We were going to the baseball game right across the street. There was no compensation or anything. They just moved us from a hotel where the room was over $600 a night to their sister hotel! Their sister hotel was nothing like what we paid for and yet they charged us over $400 when their room on average almost cost $350. On top of it all they charge us for both room so now we have to fix that mess. I would give no stars but I have to give something. Guess I have to be famous to stay here to have my reservation stick. Again reservation made 2 MONTHS in advance! read more

I was in town for a weekend of concerts at Ford Field and selected the Aloft for its location. Which was great! Having staying at Alofts in other cities, this property didn't project the fun attitude and hipster decor that I've seen elsewhere. It's a historic office building that was converted into a hotel. What's interesting is the Aloft brand will soon disappear and the Autograph brand will replace it later this year. The guest rooms will be significantly upgraded and a restaurant added in the lobby. I had an atrium view room and found it dark inside unless I opened the curtains that allowed others to look into my room. As a high-status Marriott Bonvoy member, I wish I had received an upgraded room. I found the front desk staff to be friendly and helpful. read more

My family and I absolutely enjoyed our stay at the Aloft. The hotel was immaculately clean. The room that we stayed in was spectacular and we had the incredible view of the stadium. Best part of the stay was the staff. Desmond is the heart and soul of the hotel. He was very welcoming and accommodating. He went beyond measures to make sure we were taken care of. Backstory: We traveled with a newborn and was there for our daughter's dance competition. As stressful as it was, Desmond and his front office team took care of us. Just the little gestures like opening the door, smiling and saying hello, asking us how are day went goes a long way. Overall stay was 10/10, and we will be returning to the hotel on our next trip to Detroit. Traveling around Detroit was easy with a newborn because the people mover train was conveniently outside. Great restaurants surrounded the hotel and there were many things to do. The only downfall is that there is NO pool. Other than that, we loved it! read more

I recently visited the David Whitney for a private party and to enjoy some drinks in the lobby before heading to a wedding in town. First of all, the Aloft Detroit at the David Whitney is NOT the same as The Whitney on Woodward with the haunted bar. Don't make the same mistake I did! I definitely confused the staff at The Whitney but then we figured out where I needed to be. The David Whitney has two bars in the lobby; a sports bar and Capper & Capper which is an event space/art gallery. The lobby is beautiful and fancy, and gives some major courthouse vibes. There was an employee going around fluffing the pillows while we were lounging, which I thought was hilarious and over the top. Loved it. There is plenty of comfortable seating in the lobby area, so my friends and I bought some drinks from the cute and handy convenience area off the lobby; they have beer, wine, seltzer, lots of snacks, and some frozen food items for purchase. Take your items to the main desk to pay. We had some time before we had to get ready to go to a wedding so this was a nice relaxing space to hang out in. All the employees I encountered were super polite and friendly, including the people who rang up our purchases and the bartenders at the private event at Capper & Capper. That event venue is spacious and modern, with lots of great art to look at and to use as backdrops for photos. While in the area I did get to check out one of the rooms where we got ready; it was a little dark inside and the layout was a bit weird, as others have mentioned. I also didn't love that the window of the room we were in faced directly towards all the other rooms' windows; definitely need to utilize the curtains here. The location is great and centrally located! I don't think I'd stay here with all the other hotel options, but it was nice to check out and I enjoyed the time I spent here. read more

Great new hotel - completely renovated with a beautiful interior. I would rate this 5 stars had it not been for the fact that it is the NFL Draft and the lobby was ridiculously loud until beyond midnight. We stayed in room 411, which is great and has a view of Ford Field and all the NFL Draft activities outside. However the location of the room within the hotel and the bed within the room, even with the doors closed to the bedroom area we could still hear the noise from the lobby. If you're coming to Detroit and need a place to stay where you can walk everywhere this place has you covered! Location location location! Everything was within a 10 min walk. Or you can hop on the Q-line which was super close, or the people mover. There was a stop right at this hotel. This is a gorgeous repurposed building that used to be offices. They have done a great job with the space and it has a chic, modern, classy feel to it. The room was pricey but on par with the location, service, and elegance. There is a lobby bar called the WXYZ bar that has outdoor seating and a pool table. There is a large meeting room as well. You have to valet park, and parking is $34/night so remember to take that into consideration when booking. We will definitely be back again. You can't beat summers in Detroit. read more

We stayed here for New Years Eve, which can in itself be challenging. The location is great for walking to restaurants, all sports venues and the Fox and Fillmore theaters. The building is a landmark in Detroit. The lobby is stunning! Be sure to look up. It was originally an office building and that is apparent when walking down the hallways to your room. Our room was the handicap room and we only found this out when we arrived at the room. Now if this was the last king room available, then say so. The bathroom situation was not what we expected for $500 a night. The bar off the lobby is convenient but not great. No food is available and staff is not super interested in providing great service. The valet car retrieval took over an hour. These items need to be addressed. Go for the location, stay for the history. read more

I recall the fanfare with which this hotel opened in 2014, as I was living up the road at the time. It was with that memory in mind that I was eager to actually experience the lodgings on a recent brief return to Detroit. Definitely convenient to all downtown attractions, which have expanded considerably in recent years. The valet greeting and initial service was a bit overly energetic, coming right to my driver door, but still welcoming. Main hotel staff was very professional, from check-in to making use of the bar later on and then saying goodbye in the morning. Although I enjoyed the view of Woodward Avenue and the amount of space in the room itself, the overall impression was more plain than I had hoped for. An often running toilet in the room was an annoyance, yet able to be muffled by closing the bathroom sliding door. I guess I wanted to be wowed by the Aloft and don't feel that it reached that level. But I was thankful to finally experience it! read more

The history of this building had me all nostalgic. Our room was most likely Someone's office back in the day. I could almost hear the old typewriters going. The door still had the old mail slot in it, and the original archetechtire- the marble, the old drinking fountain and the open air atrium were awesome. Decorated for Christmas too. Our room had a fantastic view of Comerica park. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Close to the sports events, shopping, and safe to walk around. Will definitely be back. read more

Beautiful hotel! Was here for work and the location is great. The lobby is pretty and the staff was so friendly, especially the guy to checked me in, wished I could remember his name. They have a little shop that offers complimentary coffee or tea and for a hotel it's actually not bad! They don't serve breakfast until 7 so I ended up going else where since I had to be at work early. The rooms are spacious and modern. Extremely clean. Bathroom is nice and showers are great! Bed was comfy and so was the pillows. The gym is at the floor below the first floor and it's big and even has Pelotons! And bob! (So I could practice some punching!). The only thing missing at her gym was towels so bring one! Valet was good, they were pretty quick on getting the car to you. Overall a very enjoyable stay! read more

**Reviewing WXYZ Bar ONLY** Honestly i wouldn't have known this place existed without a good friend of mine DJ'n at this place. The vibe is good - somewhat low key spot; I feel this could be a nice "date spot" if you wanted to chat a little but not with extreme blasting music in your ear. There is a FREE pool table available in case you wanted to start up a game or two with someone. Prices are a little bit up there but you would figure being inside a hotel - that's a given. Please note - there's two drink menus; so even bother asking the prices because you'll just get handed the book (literally). Only suggestion I have I would say they might need to change would be to add the stereos outside - nothing too fancy but at least you'll be able to vibe too. Their outside sitting area looked awesome but if you came alone - it will get a little boring quick and fast without any music. Would i come I back? As part of my buddy's bachelor party, we spent one night in Detroit and spent the night at Aloft Detroit at the David Whitney. Though I was barely sober for the majority of my stay, I thought this hotel was really nice. It's part of the David Whitney so it shares the space with an apartment complex and there's a nice lobby with a bar and a grab-and-go food spot. It's a large hotel and you get a great view from the upper levels. Our room similarly had a nice view of Detroit. The room itself was clean, sophisticated, and spacious. You can't ask much more from a hotel! Great value for the price too. read more

I wanted to stay in the heart of Detroit to explore the city and this hotel did not disappoint. From the beauty of the building to the top notch staff that I encountered at the front desk, bar, and restaurant. And I slept wonderfully even thought my room faced the street, I never heard a noise all night. The only thing I can say that could have been improved was a handle on the dresser that was 1/2 way off- I did let them know. Been wanting to stay here for a while and finally got the chance. I did check in and check out through the Marriott Bonvoy app. So quick and so easy. Staff here is very friendly and approachable. Which is a must in the hospitality industry. This is a beautiful hotel inside and out. The lobby is especially beautiful during Christmas time! They have a lobby bar, WXYZ bar, I enjoyed a few drinks there, good bar for a hotel. The room I stayed in was spic and span clean, the bed was so comfortable I didn't want to leave the room in the morning! Great view of downtown Detroit and great location right on Woodward. Only a few blocks down from Hudson Cafe, which is the only option for brunch after a stay at the Aloft Detroit! read more

My wife and I absolutely loved our stay at the Aloft and this would be a 5-star review if it wasn't for some terrible customer service from the valet service and front desk. I was charged an extra day on my bill for the valet. I assumed it was a simple mistake and called after reviewing my bill when I got home. When I called to get the issue resolved the guest services person argued with me that I had left my car there all day Sunday despite the fact the receipt from checkout (with the extra day charged) was from early Sunday morning. I explained that the valet service must've just not marked my car as gone and I even told the person I could send photos of myself back in Indiana at 5pm when they said my car was still there. Eventually the front desk person said "well your car was still here, but I guess I can waive the parking fee for Sunday." My wife works in customer service so I am always very polite and upbeat when calling with an issue. The employee I talked to had a very bad attitude and customer service from the start and this last comment just got under my skin. I thanked them for correcting my bill and then hung up. Needless to say this employee doesn't know the meaning of "the customer is always right." It's a shame that such a wonderful experience and a beautiful hotel was tarnished by their guest services. read more

We had a very nice stay at ALoft in Detroit. Desmon and Shaticka at the front desk were outstanding. Centrally located to the riverfront, and downtown sites. A few quibbles: 1) only one charging station for phones. Not convenient for bedside charging. 2) no tv guide, as out-of-towners we were at a loss. 3) very dark at night (nice curtains), with the dark surfaces in the room it was very difficult for fogeys to find the bathroon in the wee hours. A discreet night-light woud be helpful. We left a very important item in the room when leaving (earrings with the ashes of a brother embedded), it took several phone calls to track it down, and no phone call from them when they found it. After a few calls I nailed it down talking with Desmon. He was very helpful, but could only direct me to a website (Ileftit.coom) where I could report it before they could send it out. For the price that we paid, I would expect this to be taken care of with ONE phone call, but ALoft is apparently contracting out all of their service to websites and can't properly help guests who made a stupid mistake when checking out. My bad for not catching that the earrings were sitting there (hard to see), but at $300/night I was hoping for more. I would drive the 9 hours to Detroit (from eastern MD) to get those earrings, but I'd rather not. read more

The hotel and room are beautiful. However, I did not have a good experience with the check-in and customer service. I checked in on the app prior to getting to the hotel. When I got to the hotel, I went to the front desk to get our keys and they made me run my card despite me telling them that I had checked in on the app and that the hold had already been placed on my bank account. Then, what I feared was going to happen happened and my card got ran twice which meant I had almost $1000 on hold in my bank account. When I asked them to fix this, the only thing they would tell me was to call my bank and we're extremely unhelpful. read more

Be careful if considering this hotel. While it is a Marriott Autograph Collection property, they are refusing to honor the Bonvoy program rules. At this hotel, which is not defined as a "resort", guests are supposed to get either club lounge access or a choice of points or breakfast, and they separately are supposed to get a welcome gift of points or a food and beverage credit. The hotel doesn't have a club lounge, so they have to offer restaurant breakfast per the very clear Bonvoy rules. Except they don't offer it. Marriott's rules say the hotel must compensate guests $100 for this. Here is what the rule states: "Pursuant to section 4.1.c., if Lounge Access is not available, Platinum Elite Members and above will be compensated $100 U.S. dollars for the inconvenience." They don't have a club lounge, so they offer points or a $10 credit valid at their market. They do not allow restaurant breakfast because the restaurant is operated by a third party. The Bonvoy terms and conditions contain no exception for situations where "the restaurant at the hotel is operated by a third party." Their management stated this in response: "The guest choice of where breakfast is offered is not included in the guarantee and many of our guests are very satisfied with the market's breakfast offerings." But The hotel is attempting to combine the two separate benefits. To recap, the hotel is required to provide points or F&B credit as a welcome gift choice, and because they have no club lounge, they must ALSO provide a restaurant breakfast for Platinum member plus one additional guest. The welcome benefit doesn't satisfy the separate 'in lieu of club lounge' benefit. It's not the 'guest's choice' where breakfast is offered, it's spelled out in the Marriott Bonvoy terms and conditions. Somebody should really report them to Marriott International for nickel and diming valued high level members in breach of the terms. Incidentally, the hotel also refused to upgrade my room even though I have Ambassador status. read more
