So... if I were to rate this on the hotel rooms alone, I would put this at about a 2-star in comparison to other, proclaimed 4-star hotels; however, in totality, I'm giving this a 4-star. What went well: the customer service is exceptional. They are kind, accommodating, attentive, and friendly. Everyone from the valet, to the receptionist, to the waitstaff was jovial and had great energy! The perks! Marriott Bonvoy members are treated like royalty. You get 50% off of valet, 2 complimentary drinks at the rooftop bar, delicious , complimentary breakfast buffet, AND $25 off 347 Grill/Shula's Steakhouse. They spoiled me so much, I'm going to expect this type of treatment everywhere! The beds are really comfortable. Improvements: The toilets don't flush well. I had to switch rooms bc the toilet in my first room clogged. The glass doors and sinks in the bathrooms are cloudy and look worn with watermarks. The bathroom showers have stains and what looks to be mold in them... additionally, there's very little privacy when using the restroom bc the doors don't have proper sealing and are thin, glass... There's a slight mildew odor on the lodging floors and in the rooms. read more

I was in town for my son's season opener, and this hotel canceled my reservation two hours before check-in no call, no warning, just a lazy automated email. When I arrived, they said there were "no rooms available." They claimed they "couldn't pull my card deposit," yet no one called to update it. I always lock my card while traveling, and in all my years staying at Marriott properties, I've never once had a card charged before check-in or a reservation canceled without a call. This was shady, inconsiderate, and completely avoidable. To make it worse, the property looked nothing like the photos dimly lit, outdated, and tired. Believe the reviews that say it's run-down. The staff was rude, dismissive, and lacked professionalism. Thankfully, I booked Hotel Indigo within minutes bright, modern, and welcoming. I'll gladly pay three times the price for a place that values honesty and service. Marriott used to be my go-to, but after this experience, I'm done with this property and seriously rethinking Marriott altogether. read more

They offer Shula's and Level 8 coupons to enjoy your stay. Plus they write hand written notes in your room. I have stayed at this hotel many times. The front desk staff and valet team recognize that I come regularly and get to know me. They know I'm a sucker for a water bottle and lobby cookies. Those cookies in late afternoon get me every time! I wanted to weigh in on what Pam X. had to say. Pam might have checked in late at night. Only a couple of times have I noticed indifference, usually late at night. To be fair, that doesn't bother me. I'm not exactly chipper that late either. What really matters to me is that they do their job and they are aren't rude. But frequently I see them go above and beyond to get to know me when I check in afternoon or early evening. As for the room, it is painted dark black. I wouldn't say gray. This gives a moody artistic feel. I understand isn't everyone's cup of tea, but doesn't bother me. I didn't see anything wrong with furniture or unraveling carpets. Maybe she was in an old room? I will say the old negative experience I've had is that one of the floors was quite damp. Maybe reconstruction water damage? I haven't had that experience in months, so I assume it's resolved. read more

The valet staff in particular were incredibly nice. Other than that, nothing good to report. The traffic noise js insanely loud. The a/c is a window unit, which is also insanely loud. The room does not feel particularly clean There is no hair dryer. As expensive as this hotel is, I expected more than something a tiny step above Motel 6. I travel often for work and spent about 3 months back and forth between assignments in Tallahassee. Out of all the places I stayed, Hotel Duval was definitely one of my favorites. I stayed here for about 5 days in December and then again for 10 days in January. It is a beautiful hotel that really stands out. The coupons for Level 8 and Shula's were the icing on the cake and such a nice extra touch. The staff was always friendly and welcoming. The valet team even remembered me because of my longer stay, which made it feel much more personal. Normally valet can be a little bit of a gripe for me, but everyone here was so nice that it made the whole process easy. Housekeeping went above and beyond. They left chocolates, wrote notes, made towel animals, and even folded some of my laundry. It truly felt like a luxury stay and honestly, it did not even feel like I was in Tallahassee. I also have to mention how amazing the shower is! The shower head replicated a water fall that made it so relaxing. The mirror on the shower added for a steamy effect. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a hotel that feels a step above the usual. read more

Yelper this Hotel is probably one of the best hotels in Tallahassee. Even though it has been remodeled it's a lovely place to stay. They have a great lounge on the roof top. No pool, but an amazing view of the city which I liked. The decor is very modern and the restaurants are great! But I can tell you they need to work on getting some better cleaning people as the shower floors were scummy & the sinks as well. But other than that I enjoyed this hotel. What could they improve? Just about everything! Pros: Location. Our room was clean (Kudos to housekeeping). Shula's on first floor and lounge on top floor. Individual shampoo, conditioner and soap (no community containers). Valet parking. Cons: The hotel has so much potential but frankly I don't believe the owners or staff care. Furniture is old, scratched and torn, carpet is old unraveling, rooms are painted a dark, drab depressing grey. The front desk staff weren't rude but just indifferent. The mattress was weak and uncomfortable. We sank to the middle waking up with neck and back pain. You could spend the same amount of money and get better service somewhere else. read more

I stayed here at the Hotel Duval for work and it was a nice experience. I did not explore the area at all so I can't speak to it's location/proximity. Since I was there for a work function, I only spent time in the hotel. The rooftop bar was by far my favorite part of the bar. If you have the option, definitely check it out. Great bartenders and strong drinks. We had dinner at Shula's on the first floor, which was wonderful. The meal and staff there were great. In the morning we hit up the cafe and my coffee was fine, nothing special. The room was comfortable. It was clean which was the most important. The bathroom was a little small, my big body felt a little cramped inside of the bathroom. The bathroom also felt a little dated too. The bedding was nice and the bed was comfortable. The wifi worked easily so I was able to get work done. The walls were a little thin, but it wasn't too noisy in the hotel. We are Marriot loyalists & were very disappointed, we would not stay here again nor recommend the Hotel Duval. 1. Parking was very dicey, there was never a spot in the lower parking lot, so we parked in the upper lot. It was poorly lit, garbage was strewn & the walk with luggage in the rain was dangerous. The steps were so dark we could not even see them so we walked up and down the ramp for cars. 2. Upon check in, we denied housekeeping for 3 days & requested extra towels & toiletries. Our room was small & compact, there were only towels & a robe for one person, one night. We called numerous times, went down to the lobby, waiting hours for hours to get supplies after being told someone would be right up. 3. There were no tissues in our room, the toilet paper roll had @ 1/8 of the roll left. We called 3x, again went down to the lobby before getting a new roll. 4. One of the 2 elevators was not working. We spent a lot of time waiting for the elevator, crowding in with others (during a pandemic), stopping at every floor to let others on and off. There was no sanitizer in or near the elevator. 5. The bathroom had 2 glass doors that did not close for privacy. When one of us went to the bathroom during the night the other was woken up by the lights and the glass door opening. 6. The drip coffee maker was very dated, it didn't work, smoke poured out and water dripped all over the counter. 7. The refrigerator didn't keep our leftovers. It was filled with ice and froze everything inside. We tried adjusting the dials but it still didn't work. 8. We had to remove & replace the batteries in the remote to get the TV to work. The guide didn't work either so we couldn't see the list of programs. 9. The clock radio didn't work, the time was never correct. Although I reset it, the time was never correct. We were not able to unplug it nor turn it around, it was frustrating. 10. Our room on the 5th floor was very noisy. When we didn't hear street noise and sirens we heard doors slamming and people talking at the elevator. In the morning we saw clothing on the floor, there appeared to be sorority girls on our floor going from one room to another. 11. I'm glad I brought a bag with masks, sanitizer wipes, Clorox Wipes & paper goods because we didn't see any during our stay nor were we offered any. 12. Regarding the elevator that was out of order, I was told by one of the Duval staff members who told me she was from Boynton Beach; on Thursday Aug 20 in the morning that the broken elevator would be in service later that day. She also mentioned that they was an incident in the hotel. We then got into the elevator to go to the lobby. In the elevator was a police officer and another Duval staff member. In the elevator with me the police officer asked the other staff member when the elevator would be fixed. This other staff member told the police officer that the elevator would not be repaired till the following week. The staff member from Boynton Beach made a face towards this other staff member indicating that she should not have said that. 13. Upon checking out, we were not thanked for staying nor were we asked how our stay was. We could go on and on, we thought that this was the way things would be traveling during the Covid Pandemic. Then we stayed at the Grand Bohemian in Orlando next and had a fabulous stay. Everything worked, the room was plush, comfortable & very quiet. There was hand sanitizer in the 3 elevators, we were offered wipes upon check in & they were in our room. The pool, valet, gym, restaurant, bar & Starbucks were opened. We had 2 bathrobes and plenty of towels, toiletries and paper goods for our stay there. read more

It feels like ever since the pandemic, every hotel stay my girlfriend and I have had (and it's been a lot) has lost its hospitality feel. Most hotels have lost their way and forgot their business is people. I'm happy to report that Hotel Duval does not fall into that category. First impression: We show up in a Uhaul with not a lot of great options to park nearby. Front desk calls Valet and they come up and give us an option to park in the employee lot where we don't have to deal with clearance issues or parking stall size issues. Problem solved without tacking on some ridiculous extra oversized parking fee. Second impression: We go to check-in and Derrick says "I've been expecting you" and is all ready to go with our room. He's also extremely professional and gives us a verbal hotel rundown while getting us checked-in as to not waste time. Third impression: Our room was clean and beautiful. It was also the perfect temperature. VOSS water bottles were ready (something other hotels have cut out since pandemic started). Final impression: The rooftop bar, albeit busy, was still really fast on service! And the bartenders were pros, they really knew their drinks and the classics you'll find anywhere. If I find myself in Tallahassee again, I'm coming straight here. It was refreshing to finally have an amazing hotel stay for the first time since 2019. read more

I made a mistake by choosing this hotel. You can tell that the room is not clean and definitely not up to any pandemic clean standard. I can sense that this hotel is running on a very skinny staff if any at all. There is no security person. Parking is ATROCIOUS. Homeless people walking around the parking lot where you will be parking your car. I requested from the front desk to park near door under the lights, but it doesn't matter... I still can't go to sleep with confidence that the parking situation will be okay. The blanket coverlet is "pilled". You can tell it's been washed a million times. Does this mean that it's clean for YOU? No. The window is extremely tiny. The AC unit jutting out of the wall is the 1980's model. The floor that I am on you can hear people partying ( college students ) down the hall. The room may have some style but the other issues are of great concern to me. Wish I had chosen the Home2 by Hilton instead like I was planning to earlier. This hotel ? NOT RECOMMENDED. read more

Here's the deal... I called and made a reservation less than an hour of arrival, after the woman said there was only one room left. Once I arrived I requested to view the room prior to checking in. I went to bathroom which had a later of dust on the toilet liner container. The place needs some maintenance with all the paint chips. There was a homeless guy that came out of the bathroom. My husband says he was trying to bathe himself with the sink. Urine on the floor. The woman refused to deal with us, so the man did. She looked at us like we weren't dressed to get standards. Guess normal clothes was to her par. So there was several rooms available, that we saw. One room stunk and others were muggy. So I decided to leave and they still tried to charge me. The hotel has a 72 hour cancellation policy. Marriott use to carry some prestige but this place ruins it's reputation. read more

Me and my husband stayed here for a night and were very disappointed with our room experience. All the staff we interacted with were very kind and were not the issue. Our room when we entered had 1 pillow, 1 towel and the AC unit was missing its cover and unplugged like someone was actively working on it. The shelf in our bathroom also was hanging on by a thread. So as an Marriott Autograph property i expect it to be special and I really wanted to like this place. Positives- shulas and the breakfast place. Both had great food and service! Valets were very good. Negatives- rooms really need an upgrade. Overall run down! Also no maid service during the stay! Front desk says they clean when you leave... ok fine but tell us that at check in. Also at a minimum refresh the towels and make the bed!!! Would not recommend until they do a refurb!!! Lastly I am a lifetime Titanium with Marriott. No recognition at check in and I had to ask for welcome gift and other vouchers !! read more

3-Star? Yep, Rightfully so. This hotel looks great from the lobby but once you peel back the onion you will notice the flaws. Rooms are dated, small, cramped, and dark. I feel like maybe only vampires spend the night here. Boutique? I guess that's what you would call it if you want to cram X amount of people into a hotel. GUEST BEWARE: I noticed some reviews talked about theft. A colleague of mine swears that someone went through his luggage and while nothing was taken, he went to the front desk to explain and they were very nonchalant about it. While this did not happen to me I wanted you to be aware. If you get access to the concierge lounge, the staff there is very friendly and they provide drinks until 7pm. After that, pull out your wallet and get some drinks on the rooftop bar. Breakfast is also available here, nothing to crazy but the basics, grains, cereal, eggs, protein, etc... Parking is not free. The hotel itself is very nice and quaint. It has pretty good amenities including a rooftop lounge and workout room. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are nice, but unique. The bathroom is separated by frosted glass doors. There were some issues: The shower sucked. It took a while for it to heat up, but worse than that was the very, very, very low pressure. It was almost impossible to rinse out shampoo. We called the front desk the afternoon of our check-in, but nobody came up or did anything. The a/c kept the room cool, but the humidity didn't go down. It was cool and dry everywhere in the hotel but the room. It was so humid that the carpet felt damp. I would consider staying here again, but would inspect the room 1st. I wouldn't want room 409 again. read more

Centrally located to government buildings and some fine eateries. The valet parking team was quick to help us with our stuff and get us inside. It was a cold day. There's ample space in the valet area if you need to stash your car there for a few minutes. They were easy going. Worth the tip monies. The front desk staff was easy going and helpful in handling the room upgrades and room assignments during an earlier than expected check-in. Being there for business required some printing. The team was helpful in getting documents printed and organized. I like the rooms as they are modern with an amazing bathroom. It felt and looked like I was in the spa. The suite had a living room separated from the bedroom. I like this layout the best to keep the place organized and tidy. The lounge upstairs severed a good amount of dishes, wine and beer. These weren't just cheese and crackers. There was some steaks, icy cold beer and soft playing music. When in the area, this is the place to stay. read more

The stay at hotel duval was going well until I went to take a shower. There was black mold on the shower walls. To make it worst one wall was all black so who knows how much mold was on that wall. Me and my wife were extremely disgusted. When we told the front desk all we got was an apology and asked if we wanted anything from the snack pantry. Do we look like a child? We are on the 6th floor in Tallahassee but it sounds like we are on the 2nd in NYC. Toilet/shower is part of the room with an odd double barn door closure that doesn't quite close all the way. Historic hotel was renovated & stylish. Compact and comfortable room with a queen bed, refrigerator, old-fashioned drip coffee maker, large lg television , lots of outlets, and a nice rain shower. The drip made poor coffee & dripped all over the counter, daily I reset the clock yet the time was never correct & the refrigerator was filled with ice and froze our leftovers. Parking was a little tricky after dark and difficult to maneuver. The 2 small dark lots were very busy when the lobby restaurant was open for dinner. Since we checked in during the Covid pandemic we requested extra towels and soap to last for a three night stay. We looked for a housekeeping cart to take out our garbage & dirty towels, but we never found one. There was no valet, gym, rooftop restaurant nor bar... It was a bare basic room in a nice location. There were only a few sheets of toilet paper left in the room, it took three phone calls and a trip down to the front desk to get more. Fortunately we brought our own tissues as there were none in the room. Turned the thermostat down to 65° in our room, still felt warm. Although we were on the fifth floor we heard street traffic & doors closing around us during the night and morning. Even with lots of light switches, our gray room felt dark it was hard to find things. There was only one small elevator working, we were told it would be repaired later today, but when the police officer asked He was told next week. Yes there were police officers in the hotel. There were always people waiting for or in the elevator- it's a pandemic & not our preference! We were very cognizant of the virus & social distancing. We brought a bag of masks, cleaners & wipes. It was difficult to be as safe as I would have liked to. We paid a premium price for a premium hotel & felt disappointed. We would NOT recommend this Marriott autograph hotel and we wouldn't stay here again. read more

This was our first time in Tallahassee, and this little hotel looked unique and was part of the Marriott collection. We really enjoyed our stay. There is a neat rooftop bar as well as an excellent restaurant on the first floor. Plenty of parking. Very friendly and courteous staff. The rooms feature a completely see through double sliding bathroom doors that make up two walls of the bathrooms. There is absolutely no privacy when using the toilet, or shower, and no venting. The rooms are horribly designed, and the glass sink which was dirty, along with the glass on the showers was not good. The water faucet it aligned to the side of a glass sink: when you was hands the water goes everywhere. There are no shelves in shower to put things down. I stay at many hotels with over 100 rooms booked through Marriott Bonvoy last year. This hotel was one of the worst designs, and not well cleaned. I will not stay there again and may stop using Marriott Bonvoy if I see a hotel like this again. The people were very nice. read more
