If you want to be wide awake at 2 a.m., listening to live music, hey, this could be great. If not, this is a hellish way to spend the night, and sleeping in my car would have been better. I have to wonder why anyone would give this "hostel" a good review. Hostels are for budget travellers, who just want to get some sleep. That is not possible at this "hostel". Nothing about it is what a normal hostel should be, and anyone who has travelled around and stayed at hostels would wonder why they chose this absurd location. I have stayed at hostels in many countries, and never experienced a place like this. I really wish that the desk clerk, who I asked about the noise levels from the bar below, could have mustered up a little honesty. I'll find a cheap hotel for $20 more next time, and I'm sure I will manage to sleep more than half the night. read more

My bf and I were only in town for a night and decided to stay at Hotel Hotel . We loved it! The location was great--lots of restaurants and bars nearby, plus a totally awesome co-op grocery store right around the corner. Our room was huge! A private king w/private bath, (I think it was around 90$ a night? Maybe a little extra with taxes/fees/etc.), it had windows overlooking the street which also splayed beautiful natural light into the room. The shower was massive and the bed was comfy. The staff was always pleasant and everything was very clean. The kitchen, though I had no need to use it, seemed well equipped for culinary greatness. AND it wasn't noisy like many of the hostels I've stayed in previously. Our morning desk guy--Alex--was super sweet! He brewed us some excellent coffee and knows his stuff too. He works at a coffee shop nearby (Milstead & Co. *also worth visiting) and talked coffee with my bf for awhile. After we checked out we went to find that coffee shop when my bf realized he had forgotten his phone in the bed! We drove back to the hostel only to find out Alex had ran over to Milstead & Co. to try and find us. SO nice. Luckily we caught him on his way back. All in all an amazing hotel and well worth the money, and likely worth more than you'll probably end up paying! read more

I was recently turned away by Hotel Hotel Hostel because I did not have a credit card, despite the fact that their website clearly states that the room can be paid for with cash. When I asked to speak with a manager for clarification, the receptionist refused to allow me to do so. Extremely rude, unfriendly, and inconsiderate, especially considering the major inconvenience they caused by forcing me to turn around and take a bus all the way back into the city to search for a new hotel late at night. read more

When we first read about Hotel Hotel online we were so excited. It looked hip and stylish, clean, cheap, it was in the middle of the Fremont district and it had glowing reviews. We were even more excited when we saw they had a Family Room which sounded perfect for our family of four (we had a 14yr old and a 5yr old in tow), so we booked our stay for the weekend of the Rock n Roll Marathon, which coincided with the Solstice Parade. Sweet! Check-in was supposed to be at 3 and we arrived at 5, but we were informed that there was somebody filming a movie in our room and we were asked (very politely) if we could wait an hour and a half for them to finish. We thought it was kinda cool, and we were compensated for our troubles, so we just explored the Fremont area while we waited. The room had a king sized bed, a bunk bed in the same room, a private bathroom (shower and toilet) and an extra area separated by a wall, but not completely closed off from the sleeping/bathroom area. I'm not sure what this area was for (timeout? separate play area? dressing area?) but we just used it to stash our luggage and other stuff, since there were no drawers nor closets to put clothes in (there was a rack with hangers, though). The room was very clean and they even had stuffed toys on a shelf, which I thought was a nice touch. There were a few CONS to the room, however. Although the grey paint made the room look very stylish, it also made the room pretty dark. The room wasn't very safe for kids either. First, there was an open outlet on the wall right next to the bottom bunk. Convenient for charging our kids' devices, but not safe for younger kids. The room was also a little stuffy, so we had to open the windows. They were at bed-level and there were no screens or bars and the thought of my curious, adventurous and rowdy 5 yr old might find a way to fall out of the window kept freaking me out. We only kept one window open and made sure that our 5yr old was never anywhere near that area. The open window fixed the stuffy room problem, but it also let in SO. MUCH. NOISE. We read about the noise level and thought it would be okay since we're loud ourselves and sleep pretty late (and heavily), but the noise was on a whole 'nother level. Our first night there was on a Thursday night. We were jolted awake by the sound of the garbage truck emptying dumpsters full of glass bottles from the alley below us during the wee hours of Friday morning. This went on for a while and it was hard to get back to sleep. We laughed about it later on that day. The noise wasn't so bad the next night(but still noticeable), but it got bad again the night of the Solstice Parade. We could hear loud noises from the partying up until 3am. We're far from prudes(I'll even admit to being a little jealous that we were cooped up in the room with our kids instead of being the ones making the noise), but the noise was just too hard to ignore. Also, parking kinda sucks, and was made worse (understandably) during the Solstice Parade. On the PLUS side, I loved the proximity of all the shops/restaurants/bars and all of the staff were super helpful and friendly. I also loved the communal kitchen, which was well stocked, and the complimentary breakfast. Although I truly appreciate their effort to cater to traveling families, HOTEL HOTEL is definitely more suited to young travelers WITHOUT kids (or maybe for parents with older kids). read more

I am so happy that I stayed here. I had a private room for three nights, and loved it. The interior design is very cool and sophisticated, and really made me feel like I was on a trip to a completely new place (which I was) unlike the type of Hilton Garden Inn-ish places I usually stay in when I travel. The staff is very friendly and sweet about answering tourist-y type questions. And the location is great - Fremont is really cool, I enjoyed it even more than downtown. I've stayed in a lot of hostels in my lifetime. Across Europe and in the U.S. I called early to find out if they had any bunks available as I was driving 10+ hours and wouldn't arrive until 1:30am Sure enough, they did and said it would be fine. Arrived and no where on the website does it say that you'll have to pay $12+ for parking. I would have def stayed in a different hostel than pay $50 for a room AND $13 for parking, not fricken worth it when other hostels are ranked just as high and much more reasonably priced WITH parking. I finally drag all my stuff to the hostel then up the fancy and impressive stairs and I literally have to greet the guy at the front desk, as if I'm the customer service person. He barely looks at me, doesn't acknowledge anything about me and it's 1:30am and I'm dead from driving so far. It's normal for hostel staff to be kind, or friendly, or courteous, or ANYTHING. IT'S A HOSTEL. WE NORMALLY ALL LOVE EACH OTHER AND ARE FAMILY HERE AT THESE PLACES. He finally gives me a stack of sheets and begins talking to me like I'm 5 years old, telling me to clean up after myself and thoroughly explaining how to use a scan card. He then proceeds to say "bother us day or night, preferable day though" basically to say that I am a bother by coming in so late. I get my sheets and walk into a pitch black room where 5 other people are sleeping soundly and attempt to assemble a whole bunk on the top of a VERY rickety bunk bed in the dark, shaking it so much and waking everyone up. I'm so embarrassed and upset with the hostel. I think I would have rather them not take my reservation and I would have gladly paid 4 times the amount to get a hotel room that would actually let me check out at noon when I'm getting in at 1:30am in the morning, than to stay here and have to make my own bed up this late at night and feel like leaving and sleeping in my car so everyone else can get a good nights sleep. UPDATE: guy just walking around in nothing but his boxers, hostel staff didn't say anything. Super inappropriate and made me uncomfortable. I'm a solo female traveler. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOSTEL. Ps. This place was amazing! We had the private room with private bath and we were so comfortable! I do wish they had black out curtains because the sun rises at like 5 up here in the pacific northwest, but you could just bring an eye mask. I wish they had a better selection for breakfast but free is free! The location was amazing and everything was in walking distance. The food and local shops that surround this place were fantastic. Even as a grandmother I can tell you that this is a great place to stay! The last time I was in a hostel before this was 40 years ago in Greece, and even though I didn't have a view of ancient ruins this time, it was still a wonderful experience. The areas are clean and beautifully designed, the decor is very trendy yet not overblown, but most importantly, the staff and especially the owner, are friendly, helpful, and clearly are personally invested in making the place work. The conversations were delightful, the other visitors were respectful, and I even loved the eclectic music. I stayed in a private double with a shared bath which was close to the room and presented no problems. Only thing I would have added to the room was a simple cube next to the bed with a light for reading at night... I will be back. read more

Stayed two nights. Owner was friendly and it was my first time in a hostel. I'm used to group living bc I was in the military but was surprised with the coed rooms. After the initial shock, i got over it. About half of the rooms were over a bar so it will be super noisy if you are that room. They provide earplugs but it won't help with the vibrations from the sound system. Breakfast was provided but somewhat rudimentary. The places surrounding the hostel are very delicious and plentiful. Location was awesome due to the number of bars and restaurants and it is about a 20 minute bus ride from downtown or 10 minutes to the space needle. I give it 3 stars bc of the bar and coed group living may not be for some people. Otherwise, I'd give it 4 stars bc the number of people served by the showers and bathrooms seems inadequate during peak times and the outlets are concentrated and blocked by people's beds. read more

My girlfriend and I had a great experience at Hotelhotel. This is easily the nicest hostel I have ever stayed in. It was actually nicer than most budget hotels I have stayed in: the staff were friendly and helpful with recommendations for dinner and drinks, the room was spacious and clean with an incredibly comfy and large bed. We were concerned that because the hostel is over a bar that our room would be really noisy at night, but that did not turn out to be a problem at all. Our shared bathroom was clean, and since there was more than one bathroom, there were no long lines in the morning to shower (having a sink in the room helped out here). Not a complaint exactly, but I'd say that you should be aware that if you don't bring your own towel for the bathroom, it costs $2.00 to rent one from the hostel. Hotelhotel is also situated in a great part of town. We didn't know Seattle at all, but Fremont has great nightlife. The hostel sits above a pie shop that is insanely good. I dare you not to walk past that place every day and not order a pie. They also had plenty of amenities like a common room with cable tv, games and books, not to mention free wi-fi. My only complaint is that the wi-fi was not easily accessible from my room, which meant we had to go to the common room to get online. But we really didn't mind as every other aspect of our stay was excellent. I would absolutely recommend this place if you or someone you know is visiting. read more

My stay at the hostel was great. The bed was clean, the decor was pretty cool, and most of all, the staff has been amazing. I left my glasses behind, which I didn't realize until after I flew back home. I contacted the hostel, and they shipped the glasses back to me in perfect condition. Nancy from management and the people at front desk were always helpful and patient. (After some mulling, I requested they take care of it - which they did!) Hotel Hotel is located in an artsy area, so there's a lot to do/see. It's also conveniently close to landmarks like the Fremont Troll. I stayed during the Fourth of July weekend and got to watch fireworks over a nearby lake. It was awesome. Thank you Hotel Hotel! read more

I can't say enough about this place. Let me preface why. I brought a group of students to this hostel for an overnight stay this past Monday (6th February). Though my school has stayed at Hotel Hotel's affiliate City Hostel for many years, we decided to go with the new "little sister" due to its proximity to the UW campus, where my students would be conducting research. Not only was the staff fantastic in helping the students settle in, they were polite, engaged the students in conversation rather than passing them off as just teenagers, and even suggested things for the kids (14-year-olds) to go see in their free time. When we asked for some restaurant suggestions, the owner named a few that would be amenable to a large group such as ourselves. And, as Fremont is a generally safe, funky neighbourhood, the kids found their free time before our meal quite enjoyable. That's just the start. On other websites, I've seen some guests mentioning the noise from the Dubliner downstairs. Hotel Hotel offers free earplugs to help with that. This is definitely necessary if you are on the same side as the Dubliner's entrance, as people will still be stumbling, loudly, around the streets long after you want to go to bed. It helps that the rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. Another thing I'd like to mention is the cleanliness. I lived in Europe for many years and stayed in many hostels when I travelled, some forgettable and some very forgettable. Half of the reason for that was the lack of clean, well kept facilities. There's no worry with that here. My students were well impressed with the sparkling faucets, the white porcelain sinks and the spotless tile floors. Finally, the breakfast was wonderful. We wanted to be up on campus as early as possible, and that was going to preclude us going anywhere for food. The staff set out fresh fruit, cereal, bread, jam, butter, peanut butter and coffee. There was also a selection of teas available twenty-four hours a day. Kudos to the staff and owners of Hotel Hotel for such a wonderful facility, and for making our stay so pleasant! read more

I had an absolutely fantastic stay in Fremont at Hotel Hotel! Every person I encountered that worked there was very friendly and happy to answer my questions about the area, bus routes, and places to check out. I was early for breakfast and they even set things out so that a couple other early birds and I could grab some food before going out. The hostel looks very cool and is clean, too. Fremont is an excellent area to stay: lots of bars a restaurants and easy access to public transit. I almost took off one star because of the noise level outside my room. The hostel is above a bar that plays music late, although that did not bother me too much because I was absolutely exhausted. The problem was a group of other hostel patrons smoking and talking loudly outside the window at about 3:30am. This isn't the hostel's responsibility, but it would be helpful if other patrons were more understanding of their noise level directly outside the window. I would highly recommend staying here, especially because of the staff! read more

Nice facilities but the atmosphere isn't very social. There is a small TV room and a kitchen with a table facing a wall. This would be a problem for solo travellers wanting to meet new people. The location is awesome though, right next to great bars and eateries read more

I had the best experience at Hotel Hotel. Staff was great, open for a chat about whatever and very helpful. A great social atmosphere. It seemed like they are very good at giving very specific advices to each guest, at least I got some GREAT advices about restaurants and places to see. Besides that the beds was great, breakfast was great. The whole design of the place also had a personal character which I appreciate very much. We stayed in the beginning of July, 2012. The room we rented was terrific, on the back end of the building a bit away from the bar. Everything was super clean, modern, nice design detail. Security and safety were top-notch. Not all that noisy for an urban area. Super nice people running this lovely hostel. Very helpful in recommending local stuff to visit or point you in the right direction for needed goods/services. Breakfast was more than adequate, a real treat. read more

I wish I could say we had a good experience here but it was anything but. We checked into the Fremont hostel on a Saturday afternoon. The staff members were friendly and the hostel was clean. Ours was a king size room with private bath. Clean room with simple yet tasteful décor. Our first impressions were quite positive. However things went downhill from there. After an evening out we returned back to our room late Saturday night. We had an early flight the next morning and were looking forward to a few good hours of rest before we had to rise at 4:30 am. We felt the room was a bit chilly when we returned but thought once we got under the covers we would fall asleep quickly. That didn't happen. The problem was it was so cold in the room we couldn't fall asleep. After a while of fitfully trying to get warm we began to put on more layers of clothes. We were still cold. I was wearing two pairs of pants and two sweaters and was still cold. Finally we actually had to resort to sleeping in our down parkas, with hats and gloves. I felt like we were sleeping outdoors. In fact I believe the temperature of the room was a few degrees warmer than the outside temperature. The radiator in the room was stone cold. There was no functioning heat source that we could find. I contacted the establishment and they have agreed to give me a credit on my next stay. They also told me that if the room is cold in the future to be sure to ask the front desk for extra blankets and space heaters. read more

I have never stayed at a hostel before and this place has set a standard for me. My friend and I really enjoyed our 4 day stay here. This place is extremely clean! I saw the staff constantly cleaning. There is a bar downstairs but if you are to the left of the building, the noise will hardly affect you (at least for us it didn't). This was my second time staying in a hostel in the USA. It was not as great as my previous experience in a major city. This hostel was definitely more laid back in terms of engagement and less tourism centered. The staff was pleasant overall and answered any questions I had but I was hoping to get more of a guided or communal experience(i.e. suggestions for food in the area or activities) or even opportunities to meet the other visitors (i.e. bar crawl/social or something). Most hostels typically provide that amenity as an option for visitors for an extra cost which is nice for a solo traveler like myself. I also noticed that most of the "guest" in the hostel actually seem to have worked there. Over the course of my 4 day stay there were easily 4-5 people who lived in the hostel, which I know is common but it just seemed like that many people working and living in a relatively small hostel was overkill and very obvious. All in all my stay was good, I explored Seattle's tourist attractions which is accessible by a ten minute car ride. The hostel is set in a residential area with its own set of bars, restaurants, cafes and shops. Perfect for someone looking to be with the locals. read more

I'm writing this review at 1:30am in the hotel hotel lobby instead of sleeping because the "bar" downstairs is more representative of a heavy metal concert. My bed is shaking and my ears are to ringing. I asked for my $30 back if I could check out now and find another place to stay and the staff told me no: that when I checked in, this is what I should have expected as this is a hostel, not a hotel. Don't make the same mistake I did in thinking that a "bar" on a Tuesday night meant 20 or so loud people until midnight. Here, it means ear-piercing Metallica until at least 2am directly underneath your room. Those who wrote positive reviews must not have tried going to sleep before this hour. read more

For the bar and not hotel: Came in for a beer after work. Saturday the 10th of Dec. Everywhere else was packed and this place only had a few people... And now I know why. I asked for an IPA. She said she had two. I asked if I could try them. She said which one. I said both. Then she sighed and acted like I was sending back my eggs to the cook for the 2nd time. There was nobody in there. ( I normally won't ask is a bartender is obviously overwhelmed.) As soon as she served the beer I liked, she turned her back on me and started texting. Then I said "excuse me, may I have a coaster?" And she returned in a snarky way "We don't have coasters". First time I haven't tipped anybody in 10 years. She was very pretty too, but nothing is more ugly than another snobby stuck up Seattle chick bartender who acts like she's doing' you a favor by doing business with them. I give this place 1 star for the beer. Horrible experience and I don't mind telling people about it. read more

I have out of town family coming to visit over the 4th of july. So I went to hotel hotel and the recption and courtesy I recieved was less than stellar. The person I talked to just didn't seem interested in being of any help. This place is above a bar and the noise level in that ares means that if staying here it would be loud and not a great place to stay. So I am giving them a thumbs down. To bad the next closest decent place is way up Aroura Ave. I really hate that I can not get a room any closer then this rattle trap. read more

My husband and I have frequented this hostel and have had a mixed bag of experiences to date. We've returned to Hotel Hotel due to its competitive prices and prime location. However, our last experience staying at the hotel has made us question as to whether or not we will return for another stay. There was nothing to complain about room-wise; in fact, the room was quite comfortable! Our largest complaints come from 1) the state of one of the shared bathrooms (its stench was so sour and pungent that I ardently avoided using it for the rest of the night), and 2) the constant loud chatter that took place well into the night, which incidentally woke me up around 1 am - ultimately resulting in me walking down the hall to ask the group in the kitchen (who turned out to be the staff) to please turn down the volume of their conversation. My request was lightly acknowledged & I spent the rest of the night pretty sleepless. It didn't help that our room was located directly across from the shared bathroom, which was heavily used, and from which I could hear every single movement. Lastly, the wifi connection has been spotty and unreliable most times. The pros of staying here are that you do get a clean (affordable) room and friendly staff on standby, happy to assist with any need. I just think that if you're expecting a quiet experience, you may want to reconsider before booking. If that kind of thing doesn't bother you, go for it! read more

I unfortunately had a very uncomfortable experience with this hostel. I originally tried to stay at the downtown location, but because they were full I was told there was a vacancy at the Fremont location. In the middle of the check-in process, I was suddenly and without provocation told that I was not "allowed" to stay here. I asked for a reason and was told that I wouldn't be given one. Eventually, the employee called the owner and, in his own words, he told me that I could not stay there because I was "being and a*%hole." I was never anything but courteous and respectful from the moment I arrived and was not sure where any of this was coming from. I was never given a reason as to what brought on such treatment. I personally don't think people that run their business like this should be supported. read more

This place was pretty great. I stayed here on November 15, 2016, in a mixed-gender dorm form $28. The building inside looks swanky and freshly remodeled. They even have wheelchair-accessible showers! Everyone I encountered there was friendly. My favorite part was how bedbug-proof they have made it: guests are prohibited from bringing in their own bedding, mattresses are in plastic encasements, and there are traps under the feet of the bed frames. The only drawback is that, since I couldn't bring in my own bedding, it would have been nice to have a pillow that wasn't flat and blankets that were warmer - but I doubled over the pillow and put on some extra shirts and it was fine. There is no parking lot (as far as I could tell, no hostel in Seattle had a parking lot) but it was easy to find close, free overnight parking, and if you're willing to walk a bit you can find free daytime parking too. read more

My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed the five nights we spent in a private room here. Great staff and the owner was a really gregarious guy who knows how to accommodate guests.
