    Front door/porch

Quirky and whimsical place. Very clean with really cute decor. They left us a tote bag and bottled water was free. We didn't realize that it's a converted house, so we were confused until I got out of the car and walked up to the porch. If you have mobility issues, this is NOT the place for you. We had to climb the porch steps, then walk back down steps to the yard, over to a second door, then upstairs to our room. Also, the tow signs in the parking area made us feel like we might be in the wrong place because there's nothing to identify the parking as part of the inn. Check-in was interesting without any actual humans on site, but we had no trouble with the app or downloading our key. They were quick to answer all questions except one - WHY WAS THERE NO DOOR ON OUR BATHROOM? I don't know if this is the case in all the rooms, but there was no barrier whatsoever so we devised our own because sitting on a toilet is not a spectator sport. It was an interesting experience. And there's a great Vietnamese restaurant around the corner on 12th street (Ba Bar).

Seattle's only National Treasure…read more Please don't book a room here expecting a modern and updated hotel. Do your research!! My sister and I did a "vacation on a budget" in Seattle this past weekend. We were able to comfortably share a bed. We booked via AirBnB, and per the directions in the listing, we called ahead to let the owner Jan know we would arrive past check-in time. Our flight was delayed while deplaning, so we got to the hotel even later than expected (~1AM). We had to call Jan twice before she picked up, but she got us in. Bless her soul! She's owned this hotel for over thirty years now, you can tell she pours her whole heart into it. She was exhausted when she checked us in, but she was still SO kind and accommodating. When we saw her the next morning, she was like a new person. She is definitely so loved in this community. As I mentioned, don't expect anything fancy. It's like a step or two above a hostel, kind of like a dorm. Private rooms, communal bathrooms. On our floor, there was one toilet room (2 stalls), one shower room, and one women's bathroom (toilet + tub). There are also sinks in the rooms. There's a community room with a washer/dryer, microwave, mini fridge, and soda machine. So much soul and history in this hotel. Loved the tearoom and dining area. Shout out to Myu-Myu, the residential cat. If you are on a budget and don't mind a not-so-glam hotel, check The Panama Hotel out.

Our last two nights of our journey were spent in Seattle at the Shafer Baillie mansion. I would highly recommend staying here. The location was great for getting to downtown and all around. It is close to the Cap Hill neighborhood with shops and restaurants. There is plenty of street parking in the vicinity. The mansion itself is part of what was known as Millionaire's Row. It was built in 1914 and has been well cared for over the years. When we came back from one evening out, we all gathered in the Library and set up some charcuterie and wine to share from our travels. It was so cozy sitting all together and chatting about our adventures. The rooms are historic with modern conveniences. Our room was the Queen Ann Hill. We slept soundly in our comfortable 4 poster bed. There was a helpful step stool for me to climb up as I am vertically challenged. It has original pushbotton light switches. It had a beautiful full length mirror. There was a flatscreen TV, but we had so many wonderful activities we did not use it. The bathroom was updated but still fit with the historic look. There were two showerheads in the tiled shower. Breakfast was lovely. I, personally, have a great deal of food allergies. There was ample selection that I was able to enjoy just as much as anyone else. There were breads and pastries, jams and spreads, yogurt and fresh berries, and a hot breakfast dish. Hard boiled eggs were available as well as cheeses and meats. There was a coffee bar that was available all day that also had tea and cocoa. We sat at the long dining table enjoying each others company and conversation. We got to meet some of the other guests which added to the experience. If we find ourselves back in Seattle, this is where I will want to stay.

What I do not understand is why there are not more 1-star reviews…read more First, they hired a great photographer. The pictures they provide either are from more than 10 years ago or they spent a LOT of time and money on photoshop. At one point this was doubtless a nice place and well cared. This is not the case now. The primary photo is well cropped and does not come close to reality. Check the photos I provided from this year vs what they show. Second, they mention street parking, however they recommend the $15 parking pass. Since I would never street park in that part of town, I of course purchased the parking pass. I assumed they had a small area for parking and wanted to be sure I was covered. Wrong. The $15 fee is for a permit to park on the street. NO guarantee of a parking space anywhere near the Gaslight or anywhere at all. Some may find this acceptable, I do not. Third, there is nothing on the first page of their website about no off-street parking. After arriving and finding no parking, along with the obvious run-down condition of the property, I went in to speak with the owners feeling like it would be better to find a cleaner property with parking. NO, they won't issue any refunds, stating "This is a small business, and we can't afford to refund. They also stated that the email they send a couple days before check-in warns of street parking. Yes, it did mention parking, 8 paragraphs down. My bad, didn't read through the entire email. Of course, that email was sent a couple days before check-in, well within the 2 week, "NO Cancellation" period. Bottom line, we have your money, and we are keeping it. Rather than forfeit the $320 one-night stay, I thought we would hope to find parking when we returned from dinner with friends. I should have let the money go... We made the further mistake of going to dinner before going up to our room. Check other negative reviews, worn, dirty, stained floors and furnishings. Motel 6 might have been a better choice. I provided a few pictures, including their header photo and what reality looks like. The musty, moldy smell on the second floor and specifically our room was horrid. And I can't forget the all-night serenade of police sirens running up and down the street. At least 12 times during our evening stay. I would say that the location isn't bad, but the fact is that within a block and a half the homeless have taken over the streets and park. Although you could park with them about 3 blocks down, no telling what you would get when you went back. I travel for a living, this trip was to see a surgeon at Harbourview. I wanted to make it as nice as possible for my wife and the purpose of our visit. Thought this would be better than my usual corporate digs. Can't express how disappointing it was. I failed to read the 1-star reviews as there are many who seem to be happy with their stay. I simply hope anyone reading this will look deeper before booking something that is as overrated as anything I have seen.

The negatives was a strange $25 fee for premium Wi-Fi which we could use $15 of that to purchase overpriced items in the lobby. And what I mean by overpriced is $12 for a beer. And that's right , a can of beer. Another example is seven dollars for a Coke 20 ounce. Another negative is the cleaning staff forgot to put coffee in our room once, forgot to put cups once and did not take our dirty towels and give us new towels once. They also did not give us the two complementary waters that they were supposed to give us every day. I must say, though that when I called the front desk, they did apologize and made sure that they rectified the problems. I would say overall, it was an excellent stay and we really enjoyed staying there since it was very close to pikes Place market, about a seven minute walk. It was also close by too many eateries and the monorail and other public transportation that we took around the city since we didn't get a car.

They give you a drink voucher for their rooftop bar and also $15 food credit to use at their snack store or elsewhere, very nice gesture. But, everything in downtown Seattle is money. To park your car here, its highway robbery and $60/night and you really have no other choice. But parking is secure and under the hotel. In and out access the entire time you stay here. Room was nice, bed comfy, but weird no full length mirror in my room. But, would stay again, as such good access to waterfront.
