Property is very well taken care of (shout out to the protected native area and commemorative plaque). Food staff was very accommodating, and most importantly, friendly but not overbearing. We came to the Ritz-Carlton expecting the level of service and attention to detail that the brand is known for--especially considering the premium price and the fact that we're Platinum members. Unfortunately, our experience fell well short of those expectations. Our stay started with being checked into a room that hadn't even been cleaned. After bringing it to the staff's attention, they did make an effort to recover by moving us to a new room, providing $300 in resort credit, and offering us an Oasis bed at the pool, which we appreciated. However, the service inconsistencies continued throughout our stay. One evening we returned from dinner to find another couple's honeymoon welcome package--including champagne and banana bread--delivered to our room. While not a major inconvenience, it highlighted a lack of personalization and attention to detail that you simply don't expect at this level. Pool service was another disappointment. Our initial lunch order of avocado toast, poke, and carne asada tacos took over 30 minutes, and a later quesadilla order also took more than 30 minutes. The staff did comp us a round of drinks for the delay, which was appreciated, but the food itself was underwhelming and didn't justify the premium pricing. What stood out most was the disconnect between the cost of staying here and the overall experience. When you choose a Ritz-Carlton, you're not just paying for a beautiful property--you're paying for exceptional, personalized service and flawless execution. That's the standard the brand has built its reputation on. While the staff consistently tried to make things right after issues occurred, there were simply too many preventable mistakes during one stay. This is a beautiful resort with wonderful employees, but at this price point--and as Platinum members--we expected a much more polished, personalized, and consistently exceptional experience. We stayed at the Ritz for my husband's work event. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and they held our bags while I took a walk on the coastal walk and called me when the room was ready. The staff brought our bags up quickly after and set up our bags. There are two closets and a mini fridge in between. They also have a safe in a very unique area. The bathroom is large with a separate toilet room however due to the layout the shower is a bit small - not conducive for shaving your legs. read more

On our first morning here we called the Montage to see if they had any rooms available. They said they get that a lot from Ritz Kapalua guests. For reference, I would put properties like Dove Mountain Ritz or Niko Japan Ritz at a 10 in terms of overall experiences. If we're using those as the standard, the Ritz at Kapalua gets rated a 3. (For reference we are Marriott Ambassador and Titanium Elite, respectively) The pros: Located at Makaluapuna point in Kapalua, there is excellent whale watching from the cliffs. There's Oneloa beach next door with Ironwood cliffs for a nice daily walk. The cons: The folks staying here act like they've never been anywhere. Truly abhorrent behavior. This is not your home, this is a public space. Act accordingly. As a result, I think the staff are just fresh out from dealing with entitled haoles and it shows. I dont blame them but the Aloha is severely lacking as a result. It's noticeable and a bummer. When we arrived at 10 pm, the valet asked us if we wanted a cart for our luggage. At a Ritz its customary to have an associate who handles getting luggage to your room. Strange first impression that made sense as time went on. Many of the associates seem like they are temp or maybe new. The rooms are TIRED. Like 20 years past their prime tired. Room cleaning is at an absolute minimum. Turn down service is literally pulling one corner of your bed sheet down and closing the curtains. I think they are understafffed. This location needs to shut down and and undergo a major reboot and probably needs new management. The restaurants are very mediocre and the prices are absurd. At the spa, we had to endure listening to a DJ blast Soula Boy remixes in the outdoor relaxation area like it was Cancun on Spring Break. Once again, did I mention how poorly behaved the guests are? This was the worst part of the experience by far. Ive generally avoided hotels in the islands preferring a private home rental and I will absolutely avoid this one in the future. The brand name should represent something, but here it does not. Dont waste your resources here. If there had been anywhere else on the island to stay this week, we would have. read more

Amazing experience. We chose this resort for our honeymoon and left already talking about coming back. The entire staff was warm and welcoming, the grounds were beautiful, and the spa was incredible. The resort felt classy and luxurious without ever feeling pretentious. Kapalua definitely has more unpredictable weather than other parts of Maui, but we were happy to trade a few extra rain showers for the peace and quiet. The resort never felt loud or overcrowded--it was relaxed without feeling empty. The beach is just a short walk away (there is a bit of a hill), and it's only a short Uber ride to Lahaina and Kāʻanapali. We're so glad we chose to stay here and wouldn't hesitate to come back. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but after nearly a month of trying to resolve a straightforward issue with the Ritz-Carlton Maui, I feel compelled to share my experience. Due to a death in my family, I was unable to travel for a reservation that represented a significant financial expense. During my conversations with the hotel, I was told by management, including a manager named Connor, that a refund would be processed. Based on those assurances, I expected the matter would be resolved promptly. Instead, nearly a month later, I still have not received a refund, a meaningful update, or even a return phone call. Each time I contact the hotel, I am told that a manager will call me back. My name and number are repeatedly taken, yet no one follows through. What is most disappointing is not even the refund itself--it is the complete lack of communication and accountability during an already difficult time for my family. A luxury property charging premium rates should provide premium customer service, especially when dealing with circumstances involving a death in the family. At this point, I have exhausted every reasonable attempt to resolve this matter directly with the hotel. If management continues to ignore my requests for communication, I will have no choice but to pursue a chargeback through my credit card issuer and explore other avenues available to me. I am posting this review in the hope that someone from senior management will finally take ownership of this situation, provide a clear answer, and honor the commitments that were made. Stayed here for 1 night this past weekend and it was a pleasant time considering we used 70,400 points for our stay! We got upgraded to an ocean view room (plus pool view) when we initially had a lanai room, thank you Grace! 6th floor in room 1622. Some great things we experienced: - so hot during the day so we used the pool at night around 7:30pm when no one was around and we had all pools to ourselves! - even the hot tub had no one so we lucked out - golf carts to take us from front lobby to the private beach - 2 beach chairs and umbrella set up for us hotel guests at the beach, but no kid toys - no kids club on site so no special kids amenities or complimentary welcome toys - valet parking only $65 per night - nice ocean views from the lobby area, great for photos - property is huge, bicycles available to borrow to ride around the neighborhood - welcome necklaces upon arrival - welcome fresh towel upon arrival - lei making class for free but sign up early It was a lovely stay but I have to say the panoramic ocean view rooms from the high floors of the Hilton Vacation Club a couple miles south are way nicer the ocean views of the Ritz. Our stay at the Ritz-Carlton Maui was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm aloha spirit and exceptional service that made us feel instantly relaxed. The spa was absolutely heavenly -- serene, beautifully designed, and truly luxurious. The massage therapists were incredibly skilled, and the Hawaiian-inspired treatments left me feeling completely refreshed and rejuvenated. When it comes to Ritz Carlton hotels, it is important to distinguish the brand into those Ritz that are located in the US and those located overseas. While many breathtaking overseas properties exist within the portfolio, the US gets the shallow end of the deal. Most are mediocre, design-less, generic properties offering subpar service and sitting somewhere right before the entry to the 5 star hotel range, while close enough to be rounded up into it. So, the Ritz Carlton Kapalua is owned by Blackstone and provides a decent experience as a whole. The property has limited recognition for Platinum elite guests. There is no breakfast (which puts it consistent with Ritz portfolio, but this property does not go above and beyond). Late checkout benefit was honored. I was able to use Suite Night awards as well and the suite provided was in excellent condition. The resort's architecture is cookie cutter resort layout shaped in U form. The interior of rooms and suites is somewhat aged, again, reminiscent of many other Ritz properties. A few amenities like water are a bit challenging. There is no filtered water faucet in the room, which is starting to become more commonplace in 5 star hotels. While there are many water refill stations, it can be tricky to get water if one forgot the water bottle in the room. Thus, the resort needs to find a middle ground. If a guest asks for water, for example before a bike ride or car trip, it should be provided while refilling is encouraged for environmental friendliness. In this case, neither valet or front desk can provide water. The beach area is incredibly crowded with 90s motel style rubber rope beachchairs. The pool areas lack umbrellas, only a couple straw umbrellas that while beautiful, are very limited. The resort can get very crowded and finding space at the pool can be tough. The unpleasant thing about this Ritz is that so many things are an upcharge. Pool cabanas and valet parking for starters. The beach does not even provide any water equipment, such as boogie boards for the great waves. It's one of those properties that is rather expensive to start, but then continues to sell add ons. The only nice perk was the bikes being included. Front desk team was attentive and the rest of the staff were as well. An issue that came up was quickly remediated. The resort is kept very clean and landscaping of flowers is beautiful. With that said, there isn't anything about this Ritz to brag about. It's a decent resort, largely indistinguishable from countless similar ones around the world, but magnitudes more expensive due to its location. The team does great work and really makes the place desirable. With that said, other things do need to be brought up to par from the standpoint of design, inclusion of amenities and recognition of elite guests. Ps. This hotel has a lot going for it and a lot that leaves you wanting more. Our friends wanted to stay here for a birthday, so they booked a room last minute. Mind you, prices are always insane at the Ritz, but last minute they found a decent deal. They gave us a nice ocean view room and provided some fun birthday surprises in the room. The location is north of all the best beaches, so the beach at the bottom of the hill isn't the best, but there's a cute cafe down there. The pools are nice, but there are no slides or anything really unique about them. I almost felt like I was using a vacation condo complex of pools. Pool cafe was nice and servers were great. Kapalua gets a lot of clouds and some drizzle, be careful what time of the year you go. read more

Here are a few things to set the record straight: -Our room was beautiful and not dated in any way. -The cleaning was impeccable. There was not a stray hair or dust anywhere. -Maid service is performed daily, without requesting it. -Turn down is available upon request. -The bath towels are super plush and absorbent. -The pool lounges are covered with a terry cloth sheet. The pool towels are in fine shape. We chose to use the Club Level. The food was more varied and generous than some other Club Levels I've visited on the mainland. The hosts there really make the experience. Leilani watched over us with great care, anticipating our every need. Leena heard every request my husband made, followed up in a timely manner and then checked in the next day to make sure he had received everything he requested. The room and housekeeping was excellent and the daily chocolates from front desk if you qualify, should not be missed. Strangely this places lacks trash cans more than anything else. Rebekah was outstanding--she saved us from being overcharged $200 at Banyan Tree after our waiter gave us the wrong bill and insisted it was correct. She was so kind, got everything fixed quickly, and I even ran into her the next day at the pool (I hope they give her a break, lol)! The food was good, though pricey, as you might expect. If you're staying here, I highly recommend Sensei up the road--it's a fantastic dining option. The snorkeling was unforgettable. We saw an incredible variety of fish and even a turtle! I really enjoyed this spa. It was very peaceful and well equipped. There was a lovely eucalyptus steam room, a sauna, cold plunge, hot tub, multiple relaxation rooms ... all with special touches. Cold washcloth infused with an amazing scent, cucumbers for the eyes, flavored waters, a tea station, and light snacks. They had every needed toiletry. Everything was well kept and refreshed after each use. My massage with Holly on 1/5 was amazing. So relaxing. She allowed me to talk until I was calm (I get a little nervous with a new person) and made sure I was very comfortable. The massage felt so good I almost fell asleep. I felt amazing afterwards. No aches and pains. I felt 20 years younger. Thank you Holly. You're amazing!!! I came back 3 days later and had a massage from Piper. It was not relaxing. I'd call it more energizing. She worked the muscles hard. A very different massage. I definitely did not fall asleep during this massage. No talking, the music was annoying and the temperature was extreme. Sadly not my preference but might be someone else's. (My impression was the Holly let the client direct the massage where Piper told the client how the massage was going to happen). I will make sure I request Holly and change my schedule to match hers if necessary. She relaxed my muscles and touched my heart and soul. Mahalo. The receptionist is really sweet. The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua offers a level of service that is truly unmatched. The property is so fabulous and well-equipped that you honestly don't need to leave at all during your vacation. Every staff member we encountered was amazing, but Lisa G. at the Club and Josh at the pool were particularly notable--they are some of the kindest, most fun, and helpful people you'll ever engage with. For the best experience, I highly recommend staying on the Club Level or purchasing passes. The food and drinks are exceptional and well worth it; we ate almost all of our meals there, which made for a very seamless stay. The only times we ventured out were for a dinner at Taverna, which I'd definitely suggest walking to for at least one night, and the local luau. While the luau was fine, I'm unsure if I'd attend again as there was quite a bit of waiting around for the show to start; I personally prefer the traditional format where the performance happens while you eat. Regarding the water, the beach closest to the hotel is beautiful but a bit rough for casual swimming. If you enjoy snorkeling, I recommend walking about a mile along the Coastal Trail to Kapalua Beach. It's a protected cove with much calmer water, making it the perfect spot for a day in the ocean. read more

Exquisite resort in all ways. Service is impeccable. Room 2431 (1 bedroom suite, partial ocean view) was very large and roomy and we had views of the full moon, pool and ocean. Mai Tais at the lobby and Banyan Tree both a little different and both best on the island. Food is also top quality and delicious. Ritz puts lounge chairs and umbrellas out for you at the beach which is super special. The chairs at the pool are comfy and inviting as well. It's a very quick walk to several restaurants and famous store. The golf course is unfortunately and sadly closed due to a drought but does not impact the experience here at all. We are delighted to support Kapalua area. It's been one of THE best Hawaiian resort experiences for us and we have had a lot! 5 star all the way. read more

Had a great time with my family here.. I absolutely loved all the people, from the valet to lobby to servers and bartenders and staff to on the beach. I must say the safely of this place was really good and my 13 year old was able to walk on grounds playing with cats on her own if she wanted to, I also left my $3500 purse at the bar one night and they had it for me the next day with everything inside. The food was amazing. The shack by the beach had the best burger I ever had in my life. The double stacker, must try.... The room was really nice and we had a connecting one with my family. Big property so expect a lot of walking, they do have golf cards on ground to take you back and ford to the beach if you feel like being lazy. The views are spectacular and the renovated lobby deck provides a perfect place to unwind with the pools and ocean as your backdrop. I stayed at the Ritz in Kapalua about 20 yrs ago during a boys golf trip. Although I have played the golf courses afterwards, for some reason I had not returned to the Ritz. This is a big, beautiful property. The pool area is large, and the beach is just beyond the pool area. You can rent bikes, as well as walk up to the Honolua store nearby. The aloha from the staff was the best I have experienced in the islands. Starting from Tory at the valet, Margie at the front desk, Fred the bellman, Denise the bartender at the Anuenue Lounge, and lastly Elmira (?) our cleaning lady. All were so friendly, helpful and nice people. The rooms are large, and you will do a lot of walking on this property. There are several dining options. We ate at Ulana Terrace for bfast, as well as the Anuenue Lounge for all day eating, drinking and snacks (upgrade). Unfortunately, the latter was nothing special, and not worth the upgrade. HTC (Hawai'i Travel Companion) had just traveled to Japan, and she had lounge access at a competing hotel chain. She said the Anuenue Lounge did not have many offerings. IMHO I thought the food being offered for bfast paled in comparison to the buffet. The lunch offerings of small sandwiches and soup were not enticing. Lastly, the hors d'ouveres and desserts were nothing special. Nonetheless, I would return to the Ritz in a heartbeat for a stay in West Maui. It's hard to go wrong in Hawaii, particularly on the beautiful island of Maui. There for a meeting, the Ritz provided a wonderful venue for us. The property was large and the ocean was just steps away. Our room was very comfortable and spacious, as was the bathroom. We slept very well. The one issue we had was that there were ants crawling up the wall on our last day. We called and someone came to spray, which was appreciated. The responsiveness of the staff was excellent. We also had a less than impressive first meal when we arrived the first night. For a hotel of this stature, we assumed that room service would be good. We were sorely mistaken. We ordered an expensive burger and fish sandwich and we both regretted staying at the hotel that night to eat as neither was good. When I called to mention that they left the sauce off of the fish sandwich, they ended up comping it. I thought that was very nice. The well appointed meeting rooms were located in a wing of the hotel just off the reception area. There was a great patio I nearby which slowed us to eat outside. The catered food for the meeting for breakfast, lunch, and one dinner was fine, but not amazing. We had a private luau, though, and the food was excellent. Interestingly enough, they fried the pig. We enjoyed our stay at the Ritz. Sunrise and sunset was gorgeous and we had a great view of the golf course. read more

The property grounds are beautifully maintained. The staff were helpful but not very hospitable - more like just doing their job efficiently, checking boxes. Not sure a "resort" but maybe a large tropical hotel. Pool areas were nice but more of a pool area vs resort pool. Enjoyed the 6pm tradition in the lobby lounge but again seemed more transactional. The burger in the lobby lounge was good, wings were large (less flavor than expected for "Korean"). Enjoyed the residential suite oceanview room. So i cant really complain about much. The service has been top notch, and everyone is in a great mood. Awesome food on site (free for me) and we also get free all you can drink booze. So im writing this hungover as hell and sore from literally swimming in the ocean all day yesterday. What a great place! If you can swing it, definitely stay here. Be enveloped in the unspoiled, fully-saturated blue of the Hawaiian sky every time you step outside your room at the Ritz, Kapalua. Enjoy luxury, friendliness, and impeccable service as soon as you walk onto their beautifully landscaped grounds. My only other stay in HI ever was an unexpected trip 18 years ago to this resort. (I was 25 so my mind was blown!) So for this trip we didn't hesitate to book our Maui stay here. Resort meals can get pricey (especially if you have kids). We did one breakfast, one lunch, one dinner, and a happy hour on-site. (The lounge features a live musician each night). For other meals, it's a short walk to the Honalua store where you can get good breakfasts, coffee/tea, beach supplies and other stuff. It's also a short drive to Safeway (aka Jewel). Definitely recommend driving on down to the Ka'anapali food truck park (outside their resort). About 10 great food trucks with tables set up. Walk across the street for shave ice or Dole whips. That was a fun evening! We saw a rainbow every day, and at night the sky is splashed with stars. The Ritz has some great walking paths that are good for viewing the beautiful coast during the day and starry skies at night. The waves near the shore at this beach are strong (compared to what we experienced at Waikiki). So keep young kids close. The pool is where we spent a lot of our time. Three levels with waterfalls in between and views out to the fabulous sparkling ocean. Two hot tubs. And beautiful tropical plants surround you. We somehow got upgraded to the fire pit lanai room which was so great. Chilling with the kids by the fire at night was a great add on to our experience. And you can easily walk from your room right out to the pool. They have cats that live on the property. We saw about 4-5 different ones during our stay. Relaxation, natural beauty, tropical vibes. It's easy to let your metropolitan anxieties drain away as you slow to sun-drenched pace while staying here. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to come back here for a third time some time in my life. I love this place, it's a little slice of paradise all on its own. From exploring the grounds outside with banyan trees, the beach and cats to seeing holiday decor inside and heading up to the store, it's a dream. We spent some time by the pool swimming, sunning and hot tubbing. All the staff are beyond friendly and helpful and fully embody both the Ritz brand and the Aloha spirit of this magnificent setting. I can't say enough about my experience at the Ritz Carlton. It was pure magical. From the ritual drink and hand wash at check-in, to the constant aloha's and greetings from staff and just about everyone there, the customer service consistently went above and beyond. I had come for a solo momcation trip, and had the most amazing relaxing time of my life. There was so much relaxing to be done and I literally wanted to relax everywhere. All rooms come with a lanai, which is so nice to sit and enjoy at any time of day or night. Overall, the food was pretty good and I liked it. I loved how many food options there was overall. You could also upgrade and get the lounge experience, which I highly recommend doing at the day before you check out (since it's good until 12pm the next day). I did walk to the Honolua market and have breakfast, and also to Sensai and the Italian restaurant for dinner and there wasn't one bad meal to be had. I loved that there are fitness classes daily and an amazing gym complete with several Pelotons. The views, the people, the weather, the accommodations just contributed to my overall experience. Did I mention the cutest cats that hung around the property. They were adorable and I loved how staff included them in the ohana that is the Ritz Carlton. All these reasons and more have me counting down until I am able to go back again and enjoy this special place. read more

As my friend and I arrived for our stay, we were welcomed immediately and had a lei and beaded necklace placed around our necks. Additionally, we were offered a non-alcoholic welcome drink which was nice and refreshing! The check-in process was quick and we were off to our room. Our room felt like it was quite the hike to get to but was lovely once we arrived there. We had a view of the back grounds and tennis courts which was peaceful. The property itself was beautiful and the staff was always very friendly which made the stay that much nicer. Everything was clean and maintained nicely and one thing I especially loved is that they offered activities during the day (my favorite being the morning hike). We were led on a wonderful hike which my friend and I ended up doing every morning (taking a couple of side paths along the way as well). The only thing I didn't love about our stay was the food at the hotel. Sadly, I never felt the meals we had were up to expectations and they all felt lower quality (way too oily and often over cooked). Regardless, we ate out plenty and picked up fresh options so it didn't end up being a problem. On a totally opposite note, I want to mention that I loved the gym! Not only was the gym spacious but there was a variety of machines (I loved the multiple peloton and mirror devices). We had a couple of hiccups during our stay (losing power I our room and the hotel losing WiFi one day) but the staff worked diligently to fix things. All in all, we had a wonderful stay and would be happy to visit again! read more

My husband & I thoroughly enjoyed the rejuvenating experience of a 9 day stay here. (We were grateful for a special rate due to our attending a conference). Our room 1517 on the 5th floor was a significant hike to & from lobby. The room itself with small patio was perfectly adequate and our housekeeping service was excellent. The furniture was a bit worn but functional with only one desk chair and bedside table on only one side. The real star of our visit was auto valet, Victor! He was charming, well-informed, and courteous. He never seemed too busy to offer guidance & answer questions. Prior to our visit I had written to the Ritz's General Manager asking him about a number of reviews that were not very kind about the condition and the service at his resort. He assured me that "our guest satisfaction is at an all-time high and we remain committed to delivering the warm hospitality and elevated experience that The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua is known for." Unfortunately our experience was similar to those guests that I had inquired about. When we checked in as Marriott Titanium Elite we were given 2 chocolate bars. There really is no advantage to status here. The common areas are very nice and the grounds and pools are well kept. We stayed in a Lanai room facing the golf course. The rooms need work. The fire pit didn't work and we asked maintenance to repair with no luck. The furniture on the lanai has green mold on the cushions. The bathroom shows its age. The shower is almost comical for being the smallest shower we have ever encountered in a hotel any where. 36" square. A larger person couldn't use it. The water closet was so dark you had to leave the door open for light. I left a note for the maid to ask maintenance to change the light upon returning to our room, the maid had replied with a note saying they didn't have any light bulbs! A huge Ritz and no light bulbs. Here is bright point of the visit. The next day they forgot to make our room up. I called the desk, they apologized and said they would send someone which they never did. I repeated the call and the heard the same story with the same results. In frustration I walked to the front desk and a lovely young lady listened, apologized and said she would send someone right down. This is when Faye appeared. She was the turn down associate. She has worked there since the hotel opened and she was a WOW! She apologized and took care of the room. She noticed my note and the earlier maid's response. She was embarrassed, asked if she could borrow my note, finished and left. Maintenance showed up, another impressive gentleman. He looked at the fixture and said he would return. He did, said he looked all over for light bulbs and after moving stock around he found a couple. He changed them and it made a world of difference. After he left, we went to use the TV and it didn't work. We called the desk and soon the maintenance gentleman returned with an associate. He laughed, said a simple fix just need new batteries which he had on him and fixed. Faye and this gentleman from maintenance were All Stars. If by chance you have to stay here, ask for a room that Faye services. If nothing else please ask to meet her you will be impressed. With so many other choices in Maui for hotels I would tell you to stay elsewhere. The missed room servicing, the condition of the lanai, the general maintenance our not part of the Ritz tradition and as I stated at the onset, I even asked the GM if the other feedback was unfounded. read more
