Visited Hawaii for my birthday with my boyfriend and had such a special experience here! The staff is warm, welcoming and helpful! Outrigger made for an extremely different experience, by making guests feel comfortable and accommodated. Incredible hospitality and service, such a relaxing and incredible experience. Towel service provided, as well as self parking available! They even threw in a tote bag and complimentary water bottles. If you book here make sure to participate in the farewell ceremony on your last day, it was a beautiful way to end the trip and remember our time in Hawaii. Thank you so much Outrigger!

The location is right on the beach. The beach is steps away from your hotel room. The restaurant onsite was really good. They have a convenience store in the front of the hotel that has everything. Cons were they only had one pool which was very small. No jacuzzi. You had to return lawn rentals by 5pm which sucks because it is still hot and sunny at that time. Also the boat excursions dock and pick up passengers on the beach right in front of this hotel so we had to move several times inorder to get out of their way. This is a great budget friendly option but would rather save up a little more money to get a better experience . Staff was amazing.

Our 3rd time in the last 16 months staying at the outrigger we love it it's a great location at a reasonable price point restaurant on property Maui brewing company and right next door to the Weller Village shopping complex 5 min walk or less to black rock

    Priceless views

One complaint (at the end of this review) Incredible spot. From the greeting we got when we checked in, through the entire stay, till our last day, I cannot say enough great things about this place & the staff. The views are amazing. The breakfast is packed with great, fresh food. On our last day (Christmas) the staff got together and made it to all parts of the hotel to sing Christmas carols to us guests. They were so kind and genuine. Then they showed Home Alone on Christmas night with a big projector, for all guests. The one complaint I have is actually just a design flaw. The pool (& feet) showers are PAST the pool, when guests return from the beach, which is a problem because guests that want to wash the beach sand off their feet, can often be seen dipping their dirty feet in the pool, on the way back to the hotel. This constant flow of unshowered feet causes the pool to get quite nasty, especially at the tail (pool is shaped like a cartoon whale) end. Even the best pool filter system (which they may even have) wouldn't be able to keep up with the volume of guests walking to/from the beach, so if possible, please install multiple showers BETWEEN the beach and the hotel pool.

I don't understand the bad reviews This is a great place to stay which is more affordable than next door Sheraton or next door Westin You get nuzzled in between and a short short walk to the whaler village outdoor mall It's got it all The place is very clean Staff is very friendly It's not super packed or at least not during end if August It's chill It's great Rooms are comfy and I got a great partial blanket ocean view Lahaina is super close too

We are big Outrigger fans as I feel this hotel chain delivers a nice experience at a decent price tag. This location was purchased and partially remodeled - the lobby does need some work and the pool is small and basic, but we are on Maui it's not like we came to hang out in some hotel lobby. The rooms are remodeled and very nice/modern. This location is a short walk from whalers village, and there are beach paths connecting the resort to the shopping center. There is a Maui brewing company on premise where you can get a great Mai tai, and the aqualani has rentals for all the beach supplies you need. We were pleased with the convenience of the location. One thing I would note is that our room (440) was SO HAUNTED!! We had issues with the air conditioning randomly turning off while we were sleeping, the overhead lights turning on every night in the 3-4am hour, and also during the day as if someone was commenting on our conversations. Also had the tv resetting at odd times - too much to type the whole thing but it was a little intense. Not sure I would stay in this specific room again but would revisit the property for sure.

Amazing stay! Had everything we needed. Couldn't have asked for kinder hospitality and genuine Hawaiian ohana. In the heart of Kaanapali. With Maui Brewing Co on site! We stayed in the remodeled tower which was very nice. Be sure to do the kukui lei ceremony before you leave with auntie.

You can put your lawn chair anywhere you want!

We love this property so so much! We've been staying there 20 years and when Outrigger took it over, I was concerned that some of the Hawaiian charm would go away, but that is not the case :) It is still as charming as ever, but with refreshed room decor and with the Maui brewing company now as their on site restaurant serving breakfast lunch and dinner! We recently had to abruptly push our trip back a week, due to the storms in Hawaii., and Michelle with in-house reservations went above and beyond to help me retain the rate I had booked and make us feel cared for :)) thank you so much Michelle! This is the Hawaiian Aloha that we know and love on the island and at this property specifically. We cannot wait to come back in September! Mahalo Nui Loa!

I had a great stay at this hotel. It's a great place to stay at if you plan on staying by the beach or exploring the local food and businesses. Their pool is simple and they do not have a hot tub. The main attraction is the beach so plan accordingly with the weather!! They also have a stand where you could rent kayaks, snorkeling gear, paddle boards, umbrellas, chairs, and much more. I recommend a quick walk to the ABC store to purchase goggles, floaties, and simple gear for half the price they offer. Overall, great hotel for a fun beach visit! They have a standard breakfast buffet from 7-10:30 a.m rate of $30 per person. It's all you can eat and they just have the basics such as eggs, bacon, pastries, juice, coffee, oatmeal, cereal, and so on. I don't recommend the Maui brewing restaurant they have at the hotel...if you're planning a nice dinner. The food is simple and good but not worth the money in my opinion. Not the best service there. There are plenty of food and restaurant just less than a mile of the hotel. It's only a quick 10 minute walk and you'll find plenty of food, breakfast, coffee, and shops at Whalers village.

Solid resort. It's right on the beach. Super kind staff. From front desk to housekeeping smiles and so much aloha. The concierge desk was knowledgeable and gave us some nice ideas and helped us book an excursion. Pool was nice. Ultimately the ocean was warmer and just steps away. Unlimited towel exchange was nice. Kept the fresh ones coming throughout the day. Our package waived the resort fee and provided parking. The parking garage was huge. The hotel was huge as well. We were fortunate to have an ocean view and be very near the access points to the pool and the ocean. Would absolutely recommend. There was some remodeling going on while we were there. All during the day when we were mostly off on excursions, day trips, pool time or hanging on the beach.

The place feels a bit outdated, but the rooms are perfectly good and there was always a lawn chair available outside. It's in an excellent location since there's easy access to the beach and Whaler's Village. I didn't try the hotel breakfast or lunchbox service because both seemed outrageously expensive. Also, most hotels have confusing shower controls, but this one was particularly hard to figure out. I recommend just giving up early and calling the front desk to explain it. The employees are all very friendly and kind after all.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Locals warned us this property--nicknamed the "Shipwreck" hotel--was supposed to be fully renovated after Outrigger purchased it, but that never happened. Using COVID and the Maui fires as excuses, the property remains in shambles, and unsuspecting travelers like us are paying the price. We booked through a third party (who I won't name, as they are working with us to resolve these issues) and paid for a Signature Room, 1 King Bed, Partial Ocean View. Upon arrival, the staff attempted to downgrade us to a "Garden View" and had the audacity to claim it was a "partial ocean view" if we leaned over the balcony far enough. When we challenged this nonsense, they tried to stick us in a second-floor room facing the back service side of the neighboring property--hardly the paradise we paid for. The photos advertised online and provided to the third party, are absolutely misleading. The reality is chipped paint, holes and scrapes in the walls, no central air conditioning, and no elevators to upper floors--completely unacceptable for what is billed as a signature Maui resort. When we voiced our dissatisfaction, the staff was dismissive, unhelpful, and outright refused to offer a refund. Ultimately, we walked away from our fully paid three-night stay, kissed the money goodbye, and rebooked at the Westin Resort and Spa, which was everything Maui should be: polished, professional, and truly magical. And the stay was just a few bucks more, but well worth every cent. If you're expecting a dream Hawaiian escape, do yourself a favor: avoid the Outrigger Maui at all costs. It is an overpriced, run-down embarrassment that Outrigger should be ashamed to attach its name to.

    Cockroaches!
    Alex P.

If I could title this, it would be "Buggy Beach Kaanapali Resort!" Location is beautiful, right off the beach and black rock, unfortunately the hotel is showing it's age. We moved a total of 3 times during this trip, each time the room had different issues. The first room was featured cockroach eggs and cockroaches, the 2nd room (supposedly "renovated") had black mold in the bathroom, and the 3rd and final room on the 6th floor, featured more cockroaches and lizards. The staff - is incredibly dismissive of the pest issue - and while it's hard to blame them as it's probably out of their hands, it's still not very pleasant to hear from them that "this is Hawaii, cockroaches are expected" - like what? Your company advertises clean and comfortable rooms! Cockroaches in the bed and bath is absolutely not of that sort. There seems to be no pride in the product at this resort - and the staff is a wall when it comes to meeting customer expectations - even the most basic ones. Ultimately we cut our trip short - it just wasn't worth risking our health over, and the hotel only saw fit to refund our resort fees. AVOID THIS HOTEL!

Ask the Community - Outrigger Kā‘anapali Beach Resort

Do they have beach towels in the room to take to the beach?

Not in the rooms. They are available for guests at the pool and beach Aqualani Beach Activities kiosk.

How much is the breakfast buffet?

At the Swan Court it is $38 for humans ages over 14, and $14 for ages 6-12. Children 5 and under are free, tax and tip not included.

Do they still have free nightly entertainment, a tiki bar, different food options, free cultural lessons and Is Auntie still there? We stayed at the KBH many times. Checking to see if the Outrigger destroyed all the things we loved.

The Auntie is still there ! So sweet and yes free cultural activities! I didn't see any tiki bar or nightly entertainment. That may be gone . The food options were limited to me . The one restaurant facing the beach but that was about it . They do…

I just read that there is no poolside food and drink service. Is there a bar near the pool to order drinks and bring them to the pool area yourself?

The pool is centrally located. There is a food stand right next to the pool - can't recall if they had drinks there. However, there is a restaurant/bar close to the pool as well.

I just received an email saying the day after my arrival, then full service will be will be the 3rd and 4th day. Does that mean that trash won’t be picked up , no fresh towels, the bed not made, the bathroom won’t be cleaned until the 3rd day?

During our stay we asked and were informed of what days Housekeeping would tidy the room. They came additional days upon request. We had no issues.

What amenities are on this property? Is there an community bbq grill area for the guest to use? Fitness gym?

They have a very good restaurant, a breakfast and snack bar, a small grocery store and a travel center. For BBQ question, call the hotel.

Is this place still under construction? Is there a way to request a room to avoid the noise (I will be there next week)? Also, do they still have the luaus and breakfast buffet?

We did not notice any construction. No luaus nor buffet however there are better food within walking distance. Do some exploring instead of eating at the hotel restaurant. It has live music for dinner but you have to make reservations early.

Are there elevators on your premises?

    Yes!

The Lei ceremony for guests is on arrival day or departure?

Departure, but you can come on any day I think. No one checks. The lei is a stony thing, not a flower thing, and it is a nice ceremony, fairly brief.

When will the construction be completed?

    not a Yelp question

We are staying here at the end of June Is the new restaurant expected to be complete by then?

Not a chance I would change hotels

Do all rooms have a refrigerator and/or microwave or is one available to get for a fee?

We always stay in #684 in the Lanai Wing. Since the remodel, are the Lanai Wing Oceanfronts all premium when they open back up on Dec 1st? Or are both types in both wings?

Do we need a rental car? How's the transportation around the area and from the airport

I would highly recommend getting a rental car. It is so much more convenient. The hotel is about an hour drive from the airport and overall it is easy to get around the island with a GPS. I booked through Costco and a rental car was included in my…

How is the smoking issue there? Is it noticeable if you’re trying to avoid it?

Aloha, Kāʻanapali Beach Hotel does have a few designated smoking areas. You can certainly avoid those areas if you want to be away from the smoke. Smoking is not allowed in the guestrooms. We do have very limited floors allow smoking in balcony. You…

How much is the beach chair and umbrella rental cost per day?

    ~$30

How much does the hotel charge for parking?

Mahalo for asking, Karina. Self-parking is $14, and valet parking is $18. Mahalo.

Hello, is beach erosion still a problem? I read it on a few older reviews.

Aloha Jessica, mahalo for asking. It is not a beach erosion. Winter swell tend to take away some of the the sand in front of our property. And all the sand and beach will come back in other seasons. So, depending on the seasonality you are planning…

The free valet was fantastic, and the room was spacious, clean, and had a gorgeous ocean view. We had an issue with our mattress and it was never comfortable. That was the big bummer of the stay. They replaced our mattress after we said something but it didn't fix the issue. When we laid down, we always felt like where laying way back like toward the headboard, feet higher than our head. It may have been a bed frame issue. It wasn't the worst, we just ended sleeping the other way. You have to call housekeeping to get service. That was super easy and they did a great job. All staff on site were wonderful. The grounds were well-kept, and we loved spending time by the pool--there were a few different pools, each with its own unique feel. Surprisingly, we went down the slide several times (haha it's not just for kids). Duke's on the property was a big plus. They had servers taking orders pool side. The food trucks nearby were fantastic, dealing distance away, and so much variety. they're open u til 8pm. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would definitely come back.

My group stayed across three villa units and one tower unit for a week…read more Highlights included: a stellar location, great pools, solid cocktails at dukes, and great beach access. Also love keypad entry so you don't have to remember your keys all the time esp when at beach or pool. Love the outdoor grills and beer fridges on the villa balconies. Areas of feedback for the property: We found many of the units to have been in mediocre condition and poorly maintained. Two units have broken a/c's and a third was just barely strong enough. Also had WiFi issues, broken bbq lids, non operational patio fans, broken dishwashers. In the common areas, the gym has a decent set of weight equipment, but is comically small, almost infuriatingly and dangerously so. Every morning and every evening before dinner it was just so packed, you could barely do your sets without bumping into somebody at the machine next to you To add to that, the gym's air conditioning was broken all week (who knows how long before that?) which added to the discomfort. I'm a pretty easy-going traveler and have no problem when a couple of these happen from time to time but seeing them all occur is a clear sign of poor management by the ownership. My TLDR here is it's a good property, but shows extremely poor management and excessive cost cutting, and ultimately becomes a subpar product until that's addressed.

We had a nice stay here celebrating my birthday and my husband and I's wedding anniversary. Our…read moreroom wasn't ready when we checked in so they actually upgraded us to a nicer room -- very nice gesture! We were also situated at the Moana building which was definitely the best spot at the hotel because you get the full view of Black Rock and the ocean rather than the resort grounds. Highly recommend getting a room in that section. Additionally, they gave us champagne, chocolates, and a personalized card for our anniversary! The lobby had such amazing views. We also loved the pool. Lots of pool seats available unlike other hotels. I guess it helps that it's at the end of the strip so you don't really have as much crowds coming through. We grabbed some snorkel gear to explore Black Rock and it was full of marine life. What a beautiful spot (I grew up on an island myself and will tell you it's a legit snorkeling experience). The food and beverage options were limited. Breakfast was pretty pricey so we decided to go elsewhere to try a little bit of everything for meals which we were planning to do anyway. We did get food at the pool bar - karaage chicken and fries were so good! We went back for the fries and got a fruit smoothie. One downside is that since the Moana building was at the end of the property so we had to take several elevator rides through the hotel just to get to the lobby. That was fine since it encouraged us to get our steps in but could be frustrating. All in all a wonderful experience!

We just came back from a week-long stay. Overall, it was just okay. For the price we paid, I…read moreexpected more. The biggest advantage is the location. It sits on a quieter stretch of Ka'anapali Beach, so it never feels as crowded as some of the neighboring resorts. It is also right next to Black Rock, which means you can skip paying for a snorkeling tour and simply walk over yourself. We snorkeled there three times and saw sea turtles every single time. If you are lucky enough to get upgraded to an ocean view room, the sunsets are absolutely stunning and worth looking forward to every evening. The downsides are hard to ignore. The rooms are definitely dated, although they were very clean. The restaurants on site are expensive and the food was average at best. Breakfast costs nearly $50 per person, and the buffet was nothing special. For what the resort charges, I expected a much better dining experience. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. One tip: reserve your poolside cabana online before you arrive because they often sell out. If you can book this property using points (good redemption of course), I think it is worth it. If you are paying cash, I believe there are better values elsewhere in Maui. Overall, we had a pleasant stay, but it did not live up to its price tag.

Breakfast service was noticeably slower, and some of the thoughtful touches we appreciated before -- like the kids club activities and special gestures -- are no longer available. The live music at the pool is also gone, which definitely changes the atmosphere. Pool service was inconsistent as well; we had to flag someone down just to order drinks, and even then the wait was quite long. On the positive side, it was great to see familiar faces still here. Eric is still around the pool and remains as welcoming as ever. The woman who served us at breakfast was lovely and had a wonderful smile, and Jenny at the spa is still here too -- she continues to be fantastic. We'll see how the full transition unfolds over the next 15-18 months.

We often sip n sunset at this outdoor bar beside the Montage pool so we can watch whales frolicking in winter. Service is always excellent and friendly, and tonight wasn't any different. Our waitress did make a mistake on the order but instantly put it right so nicely we couldn't fault her, plus we were left with an extra free drink so what was there to complain about! As it is a pool bar there is a very relaxed vibe so we can visit after snorkeling and feel perfectly dressed :) There is often a musician playing live music too. It is soooo nice to just hang out here at sunset, I suggest you do too!
