view up the mountains... best part of molokai!
    Bill T.

got to Wavecrest from a booking on TripAdvisor... ends up being someones home! well furnished with everything including full kitchen, dishes, even music CDs and DVDs. Great view of the ocean and up the most rugged part of the mountains on Molokai. Like the fact it is about 13 miles from Kaunakakai towards Halawa valley, where there is a great cultural hike (see seperate review). You have to know the combination to a lockbox with the key so should you make a reservation, make sure you know this! the front desk does not... great sunrises from the lanai. FYI: we were in unit A-311 which is on the third floor and has an ocean view

Spent copious amount of time looking up where to buy food and things to do. Sadly, talking to some of the locals and further reading some of these things weren't available. Part of the reason to go to Molokai was to visit the leper colony, Kalaupapa but it was still not open to tourists. We did go to the lookout for a view. Absolutely stunning.... Got sidetracked back to the condo. It was very affordable at $124/night, staying 4 nights. It was also clean and well supplied for beach items, bedding and towels. The kitchen was a bit short on supplies but we made it work. The condo was very quiet, which was incredible, listening to the wings, which never seemed to let up. Each morning we were greeted by the rooster walking around, welcoming the first rays of light. Along with the rosters, there were hens, turkeys, peacocks and a few cats that stopped by during the week. Grocery shopping was done in Kaunakakai, 20 miles away at Friendly Market or Misaki's. Prices were expensive but that was to be expected. We also got some local food from people selling on the street. The laulau was amazing. The bread from Kanemitsu's Bakery was amazing and affordable. The beach at the resort wasn't bad, but the surf was very rough, crashing right at the beach making our tough to get in and out. The beach itself was nice, quiet with very few people. Some nice trails to walk, including the now defunct and overgrown golf course, carts paths are still intact. This isn't glitzy and glamorous. No 5 star hotels or restaurants to eat at. Still sold good local island food can be found at the poke trucks in town and at Mana'e Goods & Grindz! Can never go warring with a moco! It was my speed, enjoying every moment of it, more than Maui, five days later. No commercialization and very few tourists. Rental car was cheap, and the flight runs trip on Mokulele was fun. You want retro Hawaii, this is it! Great time, friendly people. This is Hawaii!

They did an excellent job of keeping the place clean! The grounds were well landscaped with large grassy areas and lots of native flowering plants. We also enjoyed seeing the wild turkeys, peacocks and deers. There were wonderful trails to walk on along the road and previous golf course. It is located along a beach that has amazing sunsets. You can walk to the beach from your room and walk along the beach but the water is not for swimming. It is too rough and rocky. The pool is great and even has a hot tub. We also enjoyed the various grills and trash cans across the grounds. They also had a tennis court and library! We will be interested in returning again!

The communication with Sensei before and during our trip was terrible and pretty much non-existent. We stay at Four Seasons resorts often and never have I had an issue with communication like Sensei. The massage tables had cheap sheets that were scratchy; not what I would expect for a $700 massage. The room temperature never got below 70. The miso cod at the restaurant was extremely fishy tasting and not fresh. Pretty disappointing for such a pricy place.

We ended up staying in the Kaiholena Suite, and loved the balcony, bathrooms and living room with the games, very large screen TV, and comfy sitting areas for working and relaxing. I really liked the beautiful chess set which we made use of. The Sensei team was amazingly attentive, addressing all of our needs, and making us feel completely welcomed. Everyone from the front desk, masseuses, transportation, restaurant staff and everyone in between, we greatly appreciated their kindness and service. Special thanks to Elliott who assisted us with a minor thermostat issue in our room which was resolved without issue. Sensei by Nobu was a wonderful dinner with a relaxing ambiance and delicious entrees and desserts. We opted for a custom massage, snorkeling, and some hale time, well worth booking ahead of time, thanks to the wonderful Sensei experience team. Everything was seamless, from the transportation from Lana'i air to the resort, transportation to the snorkeling experience from the lobby, shuttle service to the other resort for dinner, to checking out and departing at the end of our stay. We loved the library and spent some time playing billiards and shuffle board. Some favorite things about Sensei vs the Four Seasons beach resort (based on my observations: -Slower pace overall -Mostly adults, no kids under 16 -Feels geared more towards relaxation and wellness experiences -Still have access to the beach resort via the shuttle that runs every hour -Feels more like a tropical hidden getaway Pros: Exceptional staff, gorgeous well kept garden and grounds, delicious restaurants and food options, beautiful suite, and seamless transportation. Cons: Having to leave.

My other half and I stayed in a one bedroom room in the front with a shared porch, and it honestly set the tone for the entire stay. Check in was smooth and effortless. The front desk girls were wonderful, friendly, and welcoming. From the moment we arrived, the place felt very secure. You always hear stories or concerns when staying at hotels, but here I truly felt safe. Safe enough to feel like I could leave the doors unlocked, which I did not because safety always comes first, but the comfort of feeling that way says a lot. Let's talk about the bed because wow. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the sheets were next level. Manaola Comforters Lanai Hotel, you really did your big one here because I slept so good it almost felt disrespectful to my bed back home One of my favorite parts was the porch with rocking chairs. If you want to sit outside, enjoy the fresh air, and just slow down, it is right there waiting for you. Even better, there are steps directly to the outside, so if you want to quickly run to your car, you can. That convenience alone made this stay feel so easy and thoughtful. Your room and your car being right there made everything feel seamless. Now let's talk about the bathroom. First of all, the shower temperature. I wish I had it at home. Perfect pressure, perfect warmth, and the aesthetic was beautiful. Clean, modern, and calming. And now... the toilet. Yes, we are talking about the toilet because it deserves its moment The brand is Toto, and we are officially friends now. The warm seat changed my life. My expectations are now forever altered, and going home to a non warm seat was genuinely disappointing. If you are unsure about the extra settings or not used to them, totally fine. You can use it like a regular toilet. But if you are brave and curious, I highly recommend trying it. I will let you experience that magic yourself. The room also had a really good size TV. You can sign into your Netflix or YouTube, or just watch cable. There were drawers and a good size closet, perfect for a short stay and still enough space to feel organized. Here is where things get really fun. When you first enter the room, there is a small screen that controls everything. And I mean everything. You can adjust your shades from sheer to blackout, control the lighting to be brighter during the day or dim at night, and adjust the temperature for the entire room. The room felt so homey and cozy, yet the technology was very high class. The best part? You do not have to get out of bed to turn off the lights. That alone deserves a round of applause This hotel delivered comfort, safety, convenience, and thoughtful details at every turn. From the nature filled surroundings to the cozy yet modern room, it truly exceeded expectations and I didn't take a lot of photos or videos, but trust me on , Five stars without hesitation. I would absolutely stay here again

I could just be paranoid, but wanted to note that. On our most recent trip, we stayed for 3 nights, and would've been happy to extend for another night. This is a great spot if you just want to live the resort life and relax by the pool. There are also activities that you can do off site, and a shuttle that goes into the city every hour. The downtown is small, but is worth checking out if you have the time. There's a handful of restaurants, a grocery store, a new retro-themed bowling alley, and movie theater. There are also a couple of hiking trails by the hotel. If you walk towards the beach, towards the left there's a short hike, and on the right is a longer hike along the water. The hike on the right is much harder--I'd describe it as an ankle breaker. It's mostly hiking over a lot of rocks, so you'll want to have the appropriate shoes, plenty of water, and go early in the morning to try to avoid the sun. On site, there are plenty of great views of the water, and five excellent restaurants to eat at: 1. The Break. Great casual spot for coffee, breakfast sammies, musubis, and acai bowls in the morning. Also serves lunch and dinner. 2. Malibu Farm. Nice restaurant by the pool for breakfast or lunch. Fresh, healthy, and local ingredients. This was my favorite spot. We came for lunch our first and last day. 3. Osteria Mozza. Italian restaurant by Nancy Silverton. Tasty pastas and pizza. 4. Views. This spot is a short car ride away, near the golf course. Nice spot for lunch for the scenery, but I prefer Malibu Farm for the food. 5. Nobu. We didn't visit this resaurant. In addition to the food, the rooms were spacious, and the staff was so friendly. The Innkeeper Isabelle did a great job, preparing very good breakfast and keeping a great company. There are 4 bedrooms in the house. Noise level depends on who you are sharing the house with. There is no Kamaaina discount for this B&B but price is reasonable $129/night. They do not charge for unlimited Shuttle Service. You need to deal with the Shuttle directly.
