At the time I was Starwood Platinum, and I booked a King room with a view of the canal. As we checked in - after the train ride from Milan, the long water Vaporetto ride, and the cold walk from the square - the staff was quite friendly as they informed us ... I had been upgraded to a suite with a terrace on the top floor! Right across the canal from the room was the Basilica, with the Lagoon behind it and Lido off in the distance. The furnature was pure classical period style and the terrace was larger than my next room in Munich. Unfortunately it was February so the Terrace was of little use and some of the hotel facilities were not open. But it was fabulous anyway. Now, my stay may not be typical, not everyone gets upgraded to a $2,500/night hotel room. The location is great - easy walking to just about any part of Venezia. The staff was friendly and helpful. Not sure about wifi and connectivity - when we were in the room we weren't surfing the internet.

While European hotel rooms are generally smaller, this was closer to a standard-sized US hotel room. Breakfast: Breakfast was included and it had lots of options from scrambled eggs, different breakfast meats, vegetables, sweets and pastries, coffee juices, etc. we ate at the hotel every morning and the variety kept it interesting. Hotel Bar: they had a good staff and while drinks were expensive they were creative with two excellent bartenders making recommendations based on your taste. We only went one time but had fun. Staff: The staff was amazing. We chatted with them on What's App and every request was quickly taken care of. We took a water taxi to the airport on our last day and the hotel provided us a bag with breakfast selections since we would miss the buffet. I would definitely book this hotel again. It provided great services, a nice room and was reasonably priced.

This place had reasonably good rate compared to others so I booked it with fingers crossed. Very happy with this decision. The hotel is very modern and clean. We arrived very early in the morning but they held our bags for us and delivered them to the room before we got back mid-afternoon. There was cold lemon water in the lobby which was refreshing after walking in the hot weather. The tub was so deep! A bit scary getting in and out -- not good for anyone with mobility issues. Great for soaking! We only stayed a night and didn't try the buffet. Opted for light breakfast at the place a few doors north of the hotel. I had emailed the hotel before our arrival about a restaurant to go to for our anniversary and they responded quickly with a few, each with a paragraph explaining why they recommended it. A day or two before arrival, they asked if I needed anything else like flowers or any other special requests. We did try Casa Bonita across the canal and that was wonderful. Air conditioning was wonderful on the hot and humid day. We liked the quieter neighborhood and proximity to the boat stop. Local travel on the vaparetto and then the Alilaguna to the airport. First of all, the hotel is literally less than 1 minute's walk from the Rialto Mercato vaporetto stop. It's also 2min away from the Rialto bridge. You can't beat the location of this hotel... close enough to the center of everything and in a very safe area. The rooms are simple -- we were in a family/quadruple room on the 4th floor -- but they have everything you need and most importantly they are spotlessly clean! The floors are terrazzo and were squeaky clean during our entire stay. The beds were comfortable and we found both the room and the bathroom to be very spacious. There was plenty of hot water for those that like to take hot showers. The breakfast was ample: fresh croissants, boiled eggs, ham, turkey, mozzarella, Swiss cheese, two types of sliced bread, juices, milk, jams, Nutella, yogurt, whole fruit, and a huge coffee machine for you to select a latte, cappuccino, macchiato, hot chocolate, americano, etc. If I had one "negative" thing to point out about our stay, it would be that the room's air conditioning was not ice cold, but it was cold enough, and this was something that was very common in the hotels we stayed at during our last 3 weeks in Italy (we were here during a heat wave). Our room faced a piazza with a few restaurants/bars and last night (Saturday) we could hear music and voices, but only just barely over the sound of the air conditioning unit. Now onto what set this hotel apart for us: the stellar customer service. Each time we arrived at the hotel we were greeted with a smile and a cheerful buongiorno. When we checked in, the gentleman at the front desk gave us a map and noted important transportation info (it was our first time in Venice so the local transportation is a bit different than in the rest of the world), and he suggested a great walking route for us to explore that neighborhood, which we advise everyone to do, because the piazzas and churches along the route are so beautiful... and he even gave each of our two teens a card of the hotel with the address and phone number, etc. just in case they got lost, so they would know where to get "home" -- I thought that was very nice of him. One day the other gentleman at the front desk (with a very deep voice) helped us with detailed info on how to get to the Murano and Burano islands. Last night the young man at reception helped with detailed information on how to get to the airport this morning, including times of the vaporetto, where to transfer to get the bus to the airport and the times of the bus... he even had an early breakfast waiting for us this morning (breakfast usually starts at 7:30 but we left the hotel at 7:00)... customer service like this, when people go above and beyond, it is hard to come by, and we were extremely happy with our stay at Pensione Guerrato and will definitely stay here again the next time we come to Venice!
