Clean, clean and clean; that's the way they like to keep it at this hotel. The front desk, owners, communication, rooms, corridors, pool, restaurant; you name it, it's clean! Cleanliness is next to godliness, as well as my heart. I like to keep a tight ship at home, and when I'm traveling outside of my home, I like to replicate that idea as much as possible.
Posado el Moro is fancy in its own Yucatan Region-Mexican way. Nothing but professionalism from the email correspondence to the front desk to the restaurante.
This hotel is safe as well-- try to sneak out late at night (after 1am) and you won't have any luck, unless you ring the front desk bell and wake them up to unlock the front gate. Having guests in... didn't seem like an easy process, but I had no need to try. Of course, I would suggest you keep your things locked and safely tucked away, but I felt so safe and "intimate" there, most of the time, I left my doors opened and the screen doors closed tightly to allow the cool December breeze to flow through my room.
Some tips if you are even considering staying in this little beach town between Playa del Carmen and Cancun:
-Expect to have to speak more Spanish. Although some of the waiters and the younger gentleman at that front desk speak descent English.
- Know that it is small and intimate, so discretion would be hard to accomplish (for all you cheating husbands and wives out there) I'm only kidding)...But seriously if you are trying to be a fly on the wall, that probably isn't going to fly.
- Try the food at the little hotel restaurant. Bread rolls and fresh fish of the day con Ajo (garlic) were warm and filling.
- Two blocks from the beach and right in the midst of several food choices and little artsy shops makes for a great location. If you happen to get a higher floor (3) and facing the street and beach, you can see practically the whole town as well as the water... Aka go for the Master Suite! (It's ridiculously affordable).
- Just so you are aware, this town is very relaxed and casual with a big art influence. Art is prevalent: painting classes, music, culture, reiki, massage, and so on are readily available. Visit the House of Wind (Casa de Viento), it's a sight to see!
-Puerto Morelos (particularly this hotel) is 30 minutes from the Cancun Airport. It's about 75 minutes to Tulum, 90 minutes to Coba, and 40 minutes to Playa Del Carmen.
I have not stayed in any other beachy towns (or cities) in this region, off the coast, so I don't have much of a comparison... But I have been told that it's more chill, more laid back and often people from Playa del Carmen come up for the day to the beach, because it's less crowded.
I'm hoping to have more to compare in the future, but for now Posado El Moro is a great choice in my eyes.
Would I return? Yes!
