This is simply my favorite place in the world. Every single staff member you interact with is incredibly kind and helpful. They are very accommodating, and as a vegetarian will always make sure you have amazing food-- they have plant based menus too. The options decreased from last year but it's still great to have any options. This resort is gorgeous and managed well, and has lots of fun activities. The programming team does an incredible job.

Great resort. Everything was clean and well maintained as there were always people working on the grounds. All staff were super friendly and there was a variety of entertainment. Lazy river was our favorite thing to do. Drinks were good and no wait most of the time. Deducted one star as the food was just average for us and only a couple of items really stuck out. Definitely a nice relaxing resort though

My husband I visited for our honeymoon and in 2006 and went back for our 20th wedding anniversary this week. We haven't been back as we travel as a family. It was so nice to get away with my husband to the resort where we honeymooned. There's so much to say I'm not sure where to start. We didn't find the need to be club level. We had everything we could possibly need. Our rooftop terrace suite was amazing and was so nice and quiet for the mornings I'd wake up early and just chill up there until my husband woke up. The staff are amazingly kind and everyone says hello as you walk by. Obviously they are trained this way but it was amazing. The restaurants and the buffet have everything you need. The Aroma 'bar' is a coffee shop and our favorite. It was nice to get coffee each morning and a booster as well as a pastry. The martini bar another favorite. Espresso martinis for the win. Overall we couldn't be happier and hopefully it doesn't take us another 20 years to go back again.

As the name suggests, Excellence is strives for excellence! Where to begin? The level of service from each and every attentive staff? The friendliness of everyone there, and not just the staff but guests, too! The cleanliness of the property? Literally, everything was excellent. The food, for an all-inclusive resort, was top notch and definitely the best we've had (at an all-inclusive)! It's hard to beat a 45-oz tomahawk...! We enjoyed dining at Chez Isabelle and at Magna (club-only access). We also had lunch at the Lobster House and Oregano, but it was really just ok. The buffet was not bad, and the omelette station guy was really hustling! The dinners at Magna and Chez were memorable, and we'd happily come back to dine there again! The evening entertainment was actually really good! We had a Freddy Mercury AND MJ impersonator one night and they were outstanding! Like, better than any Vegas impersonator lol. Tips: Definitely upgrade to the Excellence Club--bc the access to better booze and food is SO worth it. We had SO MUCH good single malt scotch at the club bar--and it wasn't like a Glenfiddich/Glenlivet 12; It was Macallans (which imho is highly overrated when you have to pay the hefty price, but i digress) and Glenmorangies ALL NIGHT LONG. Definitely worth the price of admission. Get your lounger early bc it really fills up quickly! We had to put our stuff down at tables until some became available bc we were too late to the game at 11 am--but no biggie. We mainly floated in the lazy river.

The Excellence Riviera Cancún (ERC) was my first All Inclusive Resort experience. I have many thoughts. When we stepped out of the airport and into the Cancún humidity that was so thick you could swim through it, there was an air conditioned Black SUV waiting for us. I felt like the president. After a 25 minute drive we arrived at ERC, and were handed a glass of champagne right as we stepped out of the vehicle. HOT start. We slammed that glass quick and asked for a refill before we went to check in, to which the guy said "Claro que si..." and poured us another one. Legend. As we were waiting in line to check in, I scanned the lobby. An enormous space with seemingly endless seating areas, a huge staircase in the middle, and the biggest stained glass ceiling window I had ever seen. There's a full bar at the bottom of the stairs, so I got a tequila on the rocks as the 2 glasses of champagne had started to wear off. At this point, I was feeling GOOD. In the best mood. Riding a high. "I'm so inspired in this place" the hero thought to himself... I slammed the tequila on the rocks and set off to go drop my bags in the room. As the doors to the outside of the resort opened, I felt as if I got hit by a flashbang grenade. An ineffable stench of an undefinable odor waged chemical warfare on my nostrils. It smelled like a lake full of dead fish. I squinted and almost fell to my knees, but I couldn't show weakness as my nickname in high school was "No Known Weaknesses (NKW)." I found out later that the culprit is the decomposition of sargassum seaweed when it washes ashore during the summer months, and there is nothing the resort can do. I feel for them as they are at the mercy of the elements, but it's not the most pleasant thing to inhale the stench of decomposing seaweed for the entire trip. My room was HUGE and clean with a full rain shower, king bed, bath tub, and balcony on which I was chain smoking Cigars. They are dialed in with room cleaning, as it felt every time I stepped out of the room the staff would clean and restock the mini bar. Shoutout to housekeeping they are laser focused on white glove service. Take this with a grain of salt because I'm an absolute snob when it comes to food, but the food selection here let me down worse than Steve Nash's tenure with the Lakers. Every meal I had at the resort was uninspired, but at the same time I recognize it's an all inclusive resort and I shouldn't have been expecting a robust culinary scene. My saving grace was this taco stand in the middle of the resort that popped up at 5pm everyday. They were slanging some decent tacos, I probably had 15+ in my 4 days here. Shoutout to the taco man he was blessing me. The drinks were so solid. As I sat there in the swim up pool bar under the Cancùn sun 6 mojitos deep, I completely understood the appeal of an all inclusive resort. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

This is our go to place for all inclusive resorts! They have so many restaurants and all of them are actually good! So many times different resorts have restaurants that are not good at all... that isn't what happens here. They have great restaurants and my personal favorites are the Mexican restaurant (Agave) and the steakhouse. Both are really good. Also, you don't have to make reservations, but you do have to be aware of time and get there at a time that doesn't require a long wait. Overall this place is awesome. Come here. They have lots of events, and the beach is nice. They actually work pretty hard to keep the sargassum out. But if you really want to avoid the sargassum, don't come in July and August. Those are peak months for it.

Where to begin? I am so thankful to have booked this Excellence resort for my most recent solocation. Everything was nearly perfect from the moment I arrived to the moment I left. You'll need to download the Excellence app for all menus, activities, and general hotel information. CHECK IN/CHECK OUT My room was unfortunately not ready at the promised time, which was the only hiccup in an otherwise perfect vacation. After a day of travel, I was ready to get settled in. Around 3:45pm and after some confusion about bags, I was hurried over to building 2. The first room I checked into was right across from housekeeping and incredibly loud, not to mention it was on the third floor with a broken elevator. I called the desk to see if there was an opportunity for me to switch rooms. They were able to quickly move me over to a different room on the same floor and the elevator issue was resolved the very next day. Amazing and swift response to the only issue I encountered. You'll receive a welcome beverage upon arrival and the team is great at taking care of your bags. The day before I was to check out, the desk called me to confirm they would arrive exactly 20 minutes before my transfer arrival to take my bags and get my checked out. They showed up 20 minutes before on the dot and my transfer to the airport was early. Total dream process - zero stress. ROOM As a solo traveller who doesn't really care about where I sleep, I opted for the most cost effective (cheapest!) Junior Suite. The room itself is really beautiful and well-appointed. You'll get some need-to-knows (use the safe, don't keep the patio door open, don't drunkenly fall on the step down) upon arrival with the bellhop. Mini bar includes snickers, m&ms, chips, oreos, four bottles, and mixers. I ate the chips and oreos everyday (it's VACATION okay LOL) and they were promptly restocked as I was down at the beach. The bathroom amenities are fab (toothpaste, toothbrush, q-tips, cotton balls and toiletries all provided) and the bed was incredibly comfortable. You'll also find robes, slippers, FOOD/DRINKS I went in to this vacation with the bar for food...incredibly low. In my opinion, you don't book an AI vacation to be blown away by the food. I live in one of the best food cities in the US, so my foodie needs are met day to day and expecting that quality here is not realistic. That being said, with my expectations being in hell, the food was very solid. I opted for an omelette at the buffet every morning, pizza or nachos at the beach for lunch, and then bopped to restaurants for dinner. I found quality across the bar at each restaurant to be of the same caliber, with special love to the french onion soup at Chez, the chicken tikka masala at Basmati, and the nachos at Las Olas. I did not at all feel weird dining alone, as a matter of fact I feel the staff went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable as a solo diner. Bring your own straw for drinks! I sipped margaritas by day and wine by night (again VACATION people) and found the house wine here to be totally serviceable. There are cocktail lists at most of the bars and I also recommend trying an iceberg (beer with frozen marg floater). STAFF As you'll tell from other reviews, the staff here really is iconic. So friendly, warm, and fun to chat with. Special shoutout to Mark on the entertainment team and Gustavo who brought my bags up to check out (he's been on staff at this resort for SIXTEEN years!). You will have everything taken care of by this team and do bring small bills to tip them. VIBES This is what I most concerned about as a solo traveller and why I changed my mind so many times when booking this particular trip. I wanted fun but not spring break levels of fun, relaxation, no children, and a fair amount of things to do. If this sounds like what you're looking for: you need to book here. I spent my mornings on the beach and my afternoons by the lazy river pool. I met amazing couples and groups travelling together and also met two fellow solo ladies. Wide range of ages here from young honeymooners to middle aged. ENTERTAINMENT I utilized the fitness facilities every morning and founds them to be above average even though the fitness center itself was on the smaller side. I took a core class and there is stretching and yoga offered daily, in addition to beach and pool volleyball, bike tours, cocktail classes, tennis clinics, pickleball, and more. By night you'll find (admittedly and expectedly) fairly corny shows and entertainment options in the theatre. Karaoke was fun! VALUE I caught an amazing last minute deal on my stay and ended up paying just under $2k for 4 nights, all-inclusive. For what I received at this resort, this feels like an impossible steal. If you can find a deal, go that route. I do NOT think you need to upgrade to the Excellence Club as that pool was a little eerily quiet throughout my stay and I don't think the benefits measure up to the cost, personally.

Came here for a girls trip with my mom and sister and this place was fantastic at times and terrible at times. Earning it a 2.5-3. We were here for six nights arriving on a Friday and leaving on Thursday. We were there the last week of a June. Something to note: there was SO much seaweed. You could smell it all over the resort and it covered the beach so we didn't get into the ocean which is a bummer. The water was brown instead of the crystal clear Caribbean blue we were expecting. Let's dive in with the good: -the Mille spa: this was a highlight I had the cocoa body wrap and facial and the massage. Both were FANTASTIC! The body wrap came with their hydrotherapy circuit which included a sauna/steam room experience and strong water jets to target key muscle groups. I would 100% recommend getting a treatment here. -The French restaurant: easily the best restaurant on property. The staff was so friendly and the food was incredible. The filet was fantastic and honestly the steakhouse was so terrible we came here after to get a perfect filet. The cheese soup is divine and it was so good. - Agave: the Mexican restaurant is a close second solid food with the most amazing cheese dip that comes with fresh tortillas. -the lazy river pool: we spent almost all our time at the lazy river pool by the spa. It was very mellow and calm which is exactly what we wanted for our trip. -Nightly entertainment: so much fun and the talent for each show was fantastic! The bad: - the restaurants aren't open really for lunch so you have to be very picky about your dinner choices. - this is a big deal for me but the menus the allergy markings ARE NOT ACCURATE. This is huge for me. There would be times I would order an item that was marked gluten-free only for the server to tell me after that it was not actually gluten-free. One of the places said they had gluten free pizza and then it turns out they didn't. It was a shame because we picked this place because we were told their menus were clearly marked. Just not accurate. - our room had a problem with the toilet. I've attached a video. Two of the nights we were there we were woken up in the early hours. It took them two trips to realize they needed to replace the toilet. I will say on the other side of this coin the management was wonderful and was quick to accommodate us once they realized the problem. The phone was also broken at one point. - two of the days the lazy river was partially closed which was a bummer. - the steakhouse and several of the other restaurants were unremarkable. The operating house were odd and so you have to really check the days and plan out your meals to hit everywhere. The floors are VERY slippery if they get wet. Have by the balcony door open causes water to coat the floor which no one told us would happen and my handicap mother slipped and fell on her knees. She had a huge bruise and it swelled up badly. The hotel does have a doctor available so we were able to get her checked but still be warned. Many people told us that they fell around the hotel as well. All in all the trip was nice but the highlights and lowlights balanced it out to a 2.3-3 star experience. When I'm paying five star pricing I expect a five star experience.

Amazing experience. Came over thanksgiving break and the service was incredible. You're greeted with a glass of champagne and quick tour of the resort before being let free! There's multiple high-end restaurants, lots of bars inside and outside the pools, coffee shops, buffets, shops... it really has it all! We loved the mini bar in our room with wine, sodas, candies, etc. room service was great and timely everyday. And our favorite part was the amazing thanksgiving buffet and show they held at the resort. Only a few things I think could be improved: 1) more things to do. There was volleyball, bingo, shows, etc, but most of the day had no events planned or happening. 2) make taxis more affordable, or the process more clear. There are political issues around Ubers which we were not aware of, but were told we had no other choice but paying $60 for a 10 minute taxi drive one way... Overall very nice place and would recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful get away

This is a wonderful resort! Their service is generally very good and their activities crew is very fun! I do wish that it was a bit easier to get into restaurants. They do not do reservations so, you have to show up 20-30 mins early to ensure you eat in a timely manner. We found the later you went to dinner, the longer it would take to get through and the service dropped off a bit. My favorite restaurant is Spice which has excellent Japanese / Asian food! There are a few things that this resort could improve on but, overall a great place to spend a vacation

This was our second stay at an Excellence Resort, our first being the one in Jamaica, and while we had a good time, I don't think we'd choose to come back to this particular location SIMPLY because of the poor customer service. Let me break it down... CHECK IN/CHECK OUT Arranging the complimentary car service is a must! You can find it on the website or even in your confirmation email. The cars are always private, clean and well air-conditioned. *bring cash to tip the driver Greeted with chilled champagne and a warm (supposed to be chilled) washcloth upon arrival. Our bags were tagged & taken for us while we checked in. Check in should've been a clue to the lack luster customer service. There were 4 people behind the desk but only one was helping the line of customers waiting to check in & out. It was unclear what the other 3 were doing. Our room was ready when we arrived (4pm) & the bellman who showed us and two other couples to our rooms was the KINDEST, most CHEERFUL person we'd meet the entire week. ROOM We had a King Suite w/garden view & it delivered. Room was very clean, well stocked, nice robes & slippers, plenty of towels & space. The shower offered privacy rather than being in the middle of the room or a glass door to the entire room as it is in other Excellence Resorts. FOOD/DRINKS The food and restaurants are almost identical to the other Excellence Resorts, which means you know what to expect. There were more meat options in Mexico, which was nice and more restaurant choices than in Jamaica, which was nice. They had a drink menu, which was wonderful & the house Chardonnay was actually good. A MAJOR note - while they offer milk alternatives in the cafe, this is NOT a dairy free friendly resort. The app claims to notify you when an item on a menu is dairy free - IT IS WRONG! I was told the only thing that did not have dairy at the Basmati Indian restaurant was the chicken noodle soup - they even bake their naan bread with a yogurt in the dough. + The Kitchen - the most wonderful breakfast buffet & their lunch was pretty tasty. + Oregano - SUPER tasty & the dough/bread is fresh. I loved the Proscuitto Salad, it was so fresh & tasty and we both really enjoyed our pizzas; Tre Formaggi & Prosciutto and Salciccia (no cheese). + Agave - hosted the Mexican Fiesta/Buffet the night we arrived & it was epic! The food was spectacular, the flavors, spices, fresh meat - it was incredible! + Basmati - I would NOT recommend from a dairy-free stand point, but while I ate my boring cup of chicken noodle soup, my husband enjoyed his Chicken Samosas, Chicken Tikka Masala, fresh Cheddar Cheese Naan bread & his Fried Ice Cream (see images for these dishes) + Spice - we made reservations for the Korean BBQ experience & it didn't disappoint. We had a private table & the food was so tasty. We had more meat than we could eat! + The bars offered drink menus, & the Caipirinha was our go-to. +Aroma the coffee/dessert bar was quick and the almond milk is so smooth, not like in the US. The desserts changed each morning & evening - we had some super delicious treats. *Bring your own straw for drinks! And you can bring your own Yeti, etc traveler mug to keep water and drinks cold. STAFF The service was pretty bad. With the exception of William who was our Korean BBQ waiter, every other person we interacted with had a scowl or no expression at all. They were short in responses, curt even & overall every single waiter, bartender and hostess seemed pissed off to be there. We figured it was just a busy day, but every single one of our five days we were met with what appeared to be resentment for being in the service industry. Over the weekend the pool bartenders wouldn't give anyone not waiving cash at them the time of day. This is all inclusive, we tip those that go above & beyond, but they acted as though we were expected to tip them for even looking our way. The gentlemen manning the pool-side pizza oven acted like we were idiots just placing a pizza order. The hostess at the Kitchen were already ticked off with every person coming through the door and it was only 8am! My gosh when we requested a table by the window they acted like we had insulted them. The ladies at Aroma, were hit or miss. There was one woman who was so patient and kind, I wish I had gotten her name, but others were irritated or refused to make eye contact. BEACH This was shockingly a no-go! The beach was covered in seaweed and it stunk so bad! VIBES The resort felt safe and clean, both are at the top of our lists. This location is a bit more lively than the Jamaica Excellence, but not a party scene - which we liked. ENTERTAINMENT This location had so much going on, every night the entertainment was stellar! VALUE We booked a black Friday deal and it was great! Cheaper than staying in Dallas and going to a resort for 4 nights. We would absolutely book with Excellence again, but I think we're good not returning to this location again.

Overall I enjoyed my stay at this resort. Plenty of activities but it's for the more a mature crowd. The service was the best part. All the staff members are super friendly and always accommodating. I noticed a big difference from when I arrived on a Monday, it wasn't very crowded and I never had to wait long for for or drinks. On Thursday a slew of people began arriving. Most placed to eat were packed and I started seeing lines at the bars. Each day they had a schedule of activities around the resort. I did the morning bike ride, bracelet making, and piña loca cocktail demonstration. I didn't venture off the resort for much since everything was inclusive and it had everything I needed. Each evening they had live music and a show. I stayed up to watch a few shows and was entertained. It's the same performers but different themes each night. While I was there I tried Spice, Agave, Oregano, the Grill, and The Lobster House restaurants. The Grill and Lobster House were my favorites. It was probably because I went earlier in the week before all the restaurants got crowded. Thursday and Friday service was slow at the other places. Spice had to be my least favorite food did not taste fresh and authentic. I hear that the hibachi show was good, but it was all booked up for the entire week that I known I would have made reservations earlier when I first arrived. The resort itself was beautiful and well-maintained. Staff members were constantly cleaning and doing improvements around the property for my entire stay. But it was never too noisy. I can't wait to come back. If you are young and want a vibrant night life this isn't for you. Most of the amenities around the resort close at 10 or 11 PM. The sports bar is the only thing that stays open late and that closes at midnight.

OVERALL SUMMARY:…read more Awesome trip; great property, excellent food, friendly staff (especially Felipè, our pool server) * * * * * GENERAL SUMMARY: We book our trip and opted for the "Preferred" status with all the "extra perks" but honestly still feel that the perks were mostly hype. Having a newspaper and access to play with their computer is a waste; access to a "preferred" Club Lounge with continental breakfast and hors d'oeuvres are not as good as just walking over to any of the other restaurants, bars or coffee shop; and the worst perk to have "personalized" check-in was actually slower than regular check in because you have to wait for someone to get you at the resort entrance and then walk across the whole property the Club Lounge for check in. But I would do it again because the room location and views were worth it. I was a little annoyed by the "extras" we expected (since they were offered as promotional gifts and offers during the sales call to book the trip) since most were misleading, like the 200 dollar vouchers for use on the property turned out to be coupons. We also had a call that we had a "welcome gift" for us in the Club Lounge; that bullshit turned out to be an offer to access another property but you'd have to sit through a sales pitch. Our room's balcony overlooked the pool area that was at the pool's signature tunnel (large pool passes through one of the buildings to the infinity edge overlooking the ocean). Cabanas with lounge chairs and hammocks surrounded by colorful landscaping makes the surroundings quite relaxing. In addition to our room and view, the many restaurants, bars and entertainment were excellent. * * * * * SPECIFIC PROS AND CONS: PRO: Love the "Secret" pass thru box for room service deliveries CON: Afternoon housekeeper rarely showed up PRO: Drinks were on par for what you would expect from an all-inclusive CON: Our TV was limited to 3-5 stations that had english PRO: But Playboy was one of those channels CON: The Club Lounge wasn't a very welcoming environment to laugh or be somewhat noisy at the bar since the staff also worked in this small space PRO: Preferred hotel rooms include great views and comfort CON: Preferred check-in is not convenient or fast PRO: Loved all the restaurant and pool servers (especially Felipè) CON: Saw landscape/maintenance workers spit in the grass often (where the guests often walk barefoot) PRO: Air conditioner rattled but fixed immediately upon request CON: We passed on our "FREE" 1-day spa pass because we felt we'd be pressured with another sales pitch for upgraded services PRO: Plenty of areas for party scene and plenty of areas for quiet time CON: The newspaper was never delivered PRO: The international variety of restaurants was enticing CON: Cost for massages or a private dinner was a joke PRO: Frozen coffee at the coffee shop was excellent when we've had enough liquor (but then I had the bar spike my coffee anyway) CON: Told and verified they had bocce ball courts, but they did not PRO: Our room was great with jacuzzi tub and great bed CON: Welcome bottle of champagne was in 2 inches of ice so our wonderful thought of champagne was warm and unappealing PRO: Entire property is Smoke Free (even have a sign at the main entrance before stepping in) CON: Have an Ash Tray for smoking right under the No Smoking sign PRO: We had a stand with incense which we appreciated on the first night going to sleep CON: After the first night, they removed all the matches so no more incense PRO: The evening special shows were awesome CON: Paella was advertised for 1:30 PM one day but it was all served at 12:30 PM (sucked since I was quite excited to try it) PRO: Pool games and other day time events were fun to meet people when tired of just relaxing CON: Our room TV was tilted and maintenance couldn't fix it PRO: Had the best time taking Sushi Rolling classes CON: All offers and vouchers required us to spend more than you'd expect and the things to buy were already over-priced * * * * * * FINAL SUMMARY: Even though it sounds like the many CONS outweighed the PROS, at the end of the day, WE LOVED our time relaxing in our room or poolside, drinking frozen cocktails and taking tequila shots that were brought to us all day long, eating in all the restaurants, watching the evening shows and playing drunken bingo, taking walks throughout the manicured paths... Most importantly, I would do it again.

If I could give this resort 4.75 stars I would. I normally do not do all inclusive resorts; so this…read morewas my very first experience. I'm afraid, this resort might have ruined me for any others. Service was exceptional - no matter where we were (beach, poolside) we had servers making sure we had drinks. Every concierge or hotel employee that we saw on our stay, greeted us to say hello/good morning etc. Many people have complained about the dress code - which I can kind of see. You are on vacation in a tropical climate, so long pants probably isn't on your list of things to pack. It's also a little sexist, as many of the women are in swimsuit coverups that can pass for dresses (albeit, trashy dresses) and yet men are required to wear dress pants. We were prepared, though, because we have a great travel agent who gave us the heads up - but our friends who traveled with us didn't have the same info. This severely limited our dinner options with them. There is seaweed on the beach - but there is a conscious effort to keep the beach as clean as possible. I mean, it's nature and there isn't anything anyone can do about that. We still spent many days on the beach enjoying the sunshine and sand. Paddle boarding and canoeing is also available. The one thing that I would complain about is the food service schedule. Room service is available 24/7, but it reminded me a lot of a college campus dining (not the food quality, but the dining room schedules). Non room service food is not available at all times - so I would get hungry at 3 or 4pm and nothing would be open. I learned to deal with this by taking a banana to my room from the breakfast set, but it would have been nice to have a salad bar or something for a light and healthy afternoon snack. It's also unfortunate that you are unable to take any food from any of the restaurants to your room. One night, my husband wasn't feeling well (tequila will do that to an Italian from Chicago) and he ended up leaving dinner before our entrees got there. If I wanted to eat what I ordered, I had to stay at the table and eat - I couldn't get a to go box or anything. In a dining room full of couples, it was only slightly humiliating to eat alone - but I had Reddit to keep me company. The best meals we had were the lunch picnic/grill outs. Fish tacos, chips and guac, paella you name it! Super local, very fresh and GLUTEN FREE! Gym is small but effective, entertainment staff seemed enthusiastic and helpful, bartenders poured a strong drink and were very nice, hosts and restaurant servers where very polite and knowledgeable.

I was thinking about why I liked CDM so much. We were only there 3 nights and then went down to…read moreAkumal, but it left such an impression on me. I've stayed in more luxurious places, including Danielles in Venice. I think I know the CDM secret. It was the lack of people that you see. Nothing and no-one annoyed me here. Even in luxurious places, there is likely someone who will be annoying, or rude or abrupt or loud, or arrogant or whatever. In fact, some of the "exclusive" places have some very arrogant and superior people, and that detracts from the experience. But I don't need to tell you how annoying people can be, do I? Not that people can't be very nice also, but the more people around, the more chance someone will detract from your experience. But when you don't even come across other people (except the ones you bring with), there's no-one to possibly bother you. You go to the beautiful pool, and there's no-one there. Not even anyone doing the "reserve our lounge chairs with towels at the crack of dawn game", when they don't use them till noon. None of that stupid stuff, and no screaming kids doing cannonballs in the pool (not that I don't like kids). The beautiful pool might as well be in your own back yard. You don't hear the adjacent room through the thick walls, and you don't even see other room balconies. The grounds are designed so every balcony is private. No-ones front door is next to yours, or even nearby. You look out over the grounds and virtually no-one is walking around. You go to the pier and it's empty of people. You go to the beach and no-one is there also. You pick your favorite lounge chair location and it's open just waiting for you. The staff here were all nice and subdued and not intrusive, but were friendly if you chatted a bit to them. When they bring your breakfast trays in the morning to your room, they place it in a hutch by the front door and you don't even see them! Look at the pictures I posted. The professional ones are from the CDM website and mine are the others. You'll notice there's no-one in the pictures. Other resorts have to rope off the area to get deserted pictures like those, and when you get there it is overrun by strangers. Not at CDM. When you think of that, you should try to stay here if you ever can, even for a few days. It's actually great value for the money. What an awesome experience. They do destination weddings here, and that probably feels like you rented the whole resort, cause I'm sure the other guests would stay out of your way. I can't think of another place like CDM.

When we first arrived, we booked a swim-out room, which was nice, but the rooms and parts of the resort definitely felt like they could use some updating. My biggest issue was the AC in our original room--it was barely working, and the first night was honestly uncomfortable. The humidity made it feel stuffy, and I had a hard time sleeping. Because of that, we decided to upgrade to the club/villa section on the opposite side of the resort--and that completely changed our experience. That area is much more secluded, quieter, and feels more upscale. We upgraded to a swim-out king room there, and it was beautiful--much newer, cleaner, and overall way more enjoyable. The private rooftop pool and more exclusive vibe made a huge difference for us. The food was actually really good, which was a pleasant surprise--no complaints there at all. Overall, I'd say this resort really depends on the room you book. If we had stayed in the original room, I probably would've rated it around a 3.5-4. But because we upgraded, we ended up having a great time. Tip: If you're considering staying here, I'd definitely recommend booking or upgrading to the club/villa section--it made all the difference for us.

The ocean did have some seaweed while we were there, but the resort staff clearly worked hard to manage it and keep things as clean as possible. One of the highlights was definitely the pool ...it might be one of the biggest and most fun pools we've experienced in Mexico. Plenty of space, great energy, and just an all-around good time. Overall, a great stay with a fun atmosphere, great service, and everything you need for a relaxing getaway. We'd definitely come back.
