We arrived late at night to find a swanky-for-the-1960s hotel with an attentive reception desk and a profoundly diligent bellhop. They checked us right in and told us about the hotel's amenities in the clearest, most patient Spanish we heard anywhere in Chile.
The bedroom was clean and, for a city, fairly spacious. It had a patio large enough for a table and chairs. The bathroom, on the other hand, had seen better days: it looked worse for wear, and had a few ants that increased mightily because my pocket knife was (apparently) insufficiently free of food.
The breakfast buffet was the most vegetarian-friendly of our entire trip. They provided fruit cups with actual cherries, good fresh bread, two kinds of cheese, boiled and fried eggs--in short, everything you need to actually fortify yourself. The experience was soured somewhat by an employee who questioned why I would want to both eat in their restaurant and bring a bit more to our room.
The aforementioned profoundly diligent bellhop having arranged a taxi for us at exactly the specified time, we sped off to the airport without hassle and were glad that we stayed, minor annoyances aside. read more
