I would like to thank the cook who was working at the Wolf on a particularly nice Saturday in late 2015. I thoroughly enjoyed the nice case of hepatitis A you gave me. A nine hour session of vomiting and diarrhea wasn't enough. I ended up missing two weeks from work, with over ten days on oxygen to get my blood oxygen back to something that resembled normal. All because you were unhappy that we walked in at the tail end of the lunch hour and you had to re-open to serve us. Don't worry, though - I didn't call the state health department, like I should have. Whether or not I'll return is yet to be seen. Otherwise, the food was great, as was the service. I guess this just proves you take a chance every time you go out. read more

Pretty scary situation. We stayed in the hotel, which has a lot of character, including bathtubs with handheld showerheads and no shower curtain. My girlfriend and I, both professionals in our mid-thirties, took sit-down showers while sitting in the tub using the showerhead. Without a shower curtain, it is hard to avoid some water spilling on the floor, and while I was showering apparently water began to drip from the ceiling of this very old building. The owner of the hotel used a key to enter our room without knocking and immediately went for the bathroom. My girlfriend, who had just dressed herself, said: "Wait, there is someone in there," to which he responded: "I know!" He entered the bathroom knowing that there was a naked person in the bathtub and knowing that there was no shower curtain or way to cover up. He appeared intoxicated, chastised us for not using the bathtub properly, and refused to leave when asked repeatedly. He eventually left, bumping into the door on the way out and saying "No!" when my girlfriend asked if he would please knock before entering. He never attempted to remediate the situation. He just wanted to yell at us. My girlfriend was really, really upset. There is no deadbolt or other lock on the inside of the door that can prevent his entry. She did not feel safe so we drove the four hours back to Denver that night. When I turned in the keys I explained what happened and I got the sense this was not an isolated incident. Saratoga is a really cool town, but I recommend staying elsewhere. read more

I have always found it a bit over rated. The food is ok and High priced. I understand that it is a steakhouse but a bit more variety would be good. The other thing that really bugs me over the 40 years I have been going there, they ALWAYS ask me if I have have reservations. Then they say well you can eat in the bar. I usually feel like a second class citizen.... so I don't go there much anymore. read more

This was the talk of the town but it was a major let down the stake was sub par there was no flavor to it and I had the prime rib that was even more bland you can get truck stop prime rib at Johnsons corner for half the price! When in Wyoming get beef, hello. My grandpa was a rancher from Wyoming, so I like my beef. The Wolf has the best cut of prime rib I have ever had. Combine the prime rib with a nice glass of vino, good service and the salad bar equates to an overall great place. Plus, this is a cool old hotel straight out of a Clint Eastwood western. For Saratoga, it doesn't get any better. Great old west charm, great food and great service. We came in with a large group, late for our reservations and they handled us with no problems. We had one waitress for a group of 16 and she was all over it! Prime Rib is a must as are the any of the steaks. I had a rib eye with melted bleu cheese that was yum. Salad bar was great as were the onion rings and fried mushrooms. Lots of great regional micro brews on tap also. read more

Had a great Friday night dinner there - do make reservations as several were turned away. We had the amazing prime rib the way it should be. Had the salad bar, standard with no surprises. We all chose the baked potato that's served with ll the sour cream, chives, bacon bits, etc. most served in little portable containers. Had a nice bottle of 14 Hands Cabernet and no room for dessert. The beef is first class, the service very good. But the old fashioned salad bar and packets of butter and sour cream were a star deduction. read more

The Wolf Hotel is a lovely historic building, which has been restored- I could do without the garish wallpaper border and silk plants, but I've come to realize that is standard "fancy" restaurant decor in Southern Wyoming. Our family enjoyed lunch at the Wolf. The salad bar was really nice, everything was fresh and cold and it was a great assortment. I enjoyed a Snake River Hoback Hefeweizen which was poured perfectly and very refreshing. The kids menu is standard fare, boring, pre-packaged, but kid friendly. My kids enjoyed the peach halves as a side dish. My husband and I both had a half sandwhich and salad bar. The waitress recommended the French Dip, which was fairly standard, but still tasty. We also had the grilled ham and cheese, again, standard, but good sourdough bread and came out piping hot. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly, and we would visit the Wolf again. read more

Love this old school classic! Don't come here looking for organic critters served in some chef sauce. Yup, think old-school giant slabs of meat, served bloody rare with baked potato and salad bar, along with deep fried mushrooms to start. This is real Wyoming to me, right down to the ashtrays and smoking. LOVE IT!!! Hotel rooms are also way cool. Yup, they are a little funky, but perfect in an awesome Wyoming town. Super cool historic hotel...loved the bar too. Wish we would have eaten dinner at the restaurant because the food smelled awesome. Will stay here again if we come back to Saratoga. Only reason for 4 stars versus 5 is the little things, no shampoo in room, no Kleenex tissue, etc. But this place was nonetheless awesome. read more

Best steak and potatoes I've had in a LONG time! Steak was fresh and perfectly cooked. Potato came with all the options to load but it's not necessary since it's so tasty. The Wolf Hotel is super cute and full of history. The staff was friendly. Our room (#20) was cute. The beds were comfy with lots of pillows. They had their own Wolf Motel soap that looked like they made and wrapped themselves. Thank goodness the ceiling fans were powerful because the room was a bit warm. The bathroom and shower was small but workable. No tv in the bedroom but there was one in the living room. Glad we made reservations when we checked in because the restaurant filled up fast. We got the burgers and they were excellent. Might have gotten the salad bar but felt almost $11 was too much for only 1 trip to the salad bar allowed but everything looked fresh. Would definitely stay here again. read more

Most of our experiences at the Wolf have been average. We have had big family dinners and celebrations here over the years. Made reservations over the phone a few weeks before our last visit. The gentleman who took my reservation was friendly. The atmosphere is good, with classic western ambience and decor. There were several flies around our table. The salad bar was also great. A little small for the amount of people in the dining room, but had a pretty good selection. Service: our waitress seemed annoyed at my few questions about the menu items, and disinterested. The gentleman who refilled our water was friendly and on top of it. Food/value: We ordered a steak and the salmon. The steak was bland. The flavor of the salmon was great. The few outer bites were perfect. However, the inside was nearly raw, not cooked all the way through. Since the price was steep ($25?!), and our server hadn't come back to check on us, I mentioned to the hostess when she was clearing the plate that my food was undercooked. She just cleared the plate, and shrugged. We will not be back to the Wolf, again. There are other restaurants in Saratoga with impeccable service, quality food, flavor, and value. read more

This place isn't what's advertised honestly. First of all with an exception of one server the rest of the folks that work here are rude for example the folks there act as if they are doing you a favor just to speak with you not exactly the way I want to feel when I walk into a place weather or not your busy that's service. Second the food for example the steak cuts are not what they are stated on the menu and the sides are like very uninteresting the burgers which are around 12$ don't even have cheese on them and are super dry. Third they really don't care if they get your order right or not example I ordered a sandwich on a gluten free bun and turned out it wasn't, inconsiderate that's like saying hey let me feed you something that your allergic to and then sneer at you as well . I will avoid this place like the plague in the future I don't want to get sick because someone doesn't care. read more

I would probably give this 3 1/2 stars if that were an option. I came here for dinner on a Saturday night. We were seated right away which was a plus. Our table was kinda squeezed in though so I always felt in the way. We both had the prime rib and it was very good. However the waiters mixed up our order so mine was less done than I would have liked. We could have switched, but he ordered the huge portion size...it was just an unfortunate mistake. The salad bar was average. I think my greatest complaint was the service, we seemed like a huge bother to her. Def not the way you want to feel on a romantic night out on vacation. The day before we had a few drinks in the bar area and that was the better experience. Th bartender was a blast and it was fun atmosphere! Very enjoyable Resturant any a nice hotel. Rooms were clean an decorated in early 1900's decor. Bedding and towels were very nice. This seems to be the locals favorite place.... If it's good for them it's the place you want to stop. Good range of tap beers and very good burgers. read more

What an awesome place! Yes, it has no air conditioning but with the windows to the room open at night, it was quite comfortable. It was like stepping back in time. We had drinks in the "saloon" which was very quaint and nice. Most of the men waited too long to make a reservation but there were six of us that stayed here. In addition, we had planned a group dinner in the restaurant (MAKE RESERVATIONS!) for the 12 of us. It was fabulous!! The food was terrific and the service equally so. We were all quite pleased we'd made the reservation in advance as it was the nicest group dinner thus far on our 12-14 day motorcycle trip. The rooms (of the two I saw) were very nicely decorated; our bed was quite comfortable. The rooms were immaculate. What an adventure! I'd highly recommend this place to anyone. read more

Food was delicious, environment was great, first 30 minutes of dinner was spectacular. But for all the good, there was the bad. After multiple attempts to get our waitresses attention for another drink, I decide to take matters into my own hands and request another drink at the bar. Before I was able to request a new drink, the bartender asked me if I was eating at a table. When I responded yes, he's replied, "well then you need to order your drink through your waitress, that's what they are there for, alright"? I was so taken aback by the response that I did not even explain the circumstances that led to me coming to him in the first place, and instead returned to my table still drink less. I took my two nephews and niece from Georgia there. They loved the prime rib. It was cooked to perfection and they were impressed with such good food for a small Wyoming town. I had the salmon with dill sauce. Big sized salmon portion cooked delicious with veggies and rice pilaf. read more

Went one night for cocktails, old timey bar. Pool table , throw the peanut shells on the floor kinda place. Smokey but fun. Went for dinner the second night. Dinner starts at 6pm, the place was packed. Small seating area so reservations for the main dinning room are essential. The host said the bar would sterve the same menu. We sat in the room off the side of the bar, no smoking. All entrees come with a trip to a small soup and salad bar that is located in the main dining room. The bartender was running around and doing a great job filling service orders for the main dining room as well as the bar and the auxiliary dining room. Walking through the dining room for the salad bar, I was happy to be in the other area, the main dining room is not set up well, crowded and tight. Anyway good basic choices on the salad bar. Salmon was cooked to the right temp, the fried shrimp had a nice coating , baked potatoes were, well, baked came with the fixin's. Not knock your socks off sort of place but a nice meal. read more

NEVER GOING BACK! Went to lunch with my family on the 4th of July. Our server was busy so we waited patiently to be waited on. After we ordered maybe 29 mins. Our server comes back to inform me they are out of what I ordered. I ask for a menu. She gives me one with a slight attitude. I order a hamburger. My family all gets their food. 20-30 mins later I still don't have my food. Everyone is done eating so I walk over to the computer where my server is and ask if I can cancel my order because everyone else is almost done eating. She yells at me that mine is almost done. Then comes to my table to get employ plates then gives me a dirty look because not everyone is totally finished. So I find a manager. Who tells me he guesses he's the manager. I start to explain the situation he 1st says do you are all these ppl in here is say yes and I waited tables for 15 years and the attitude I'm getting here is unacceptable. I tell him what happened. Before I can even finish he says we will buy your lunch. I said no I don't want that and I still haven't received my lunch. I just want someone to talk to the server and tell her it's not ink to be rude ppl. So he suggests that we go talk to her. I said no if I wanted to confront her I would have. He starts to walk away. So I said sorry to bother you and walk out back to my table. I tell my family I'm going to leave. At Thais point I'm almost in tears. As I'm walking out the "manager" bumps I to me and says so what can I do for you. By this point I was so upset I said nothing I just want to leave. So I walked out In tears! I've never been treated so poorly. I wasn't mad about the food being delayed although. It was unacceptable. But to be treated like I was the problem and because they were busy I couldn't expect decent service or to even be treated like a human being is beyond what I will put up with! So if you decide to eat here make sure you don't expect good service is they are busy. read more

Toward the end of our two-week road trip through Wyoming (we are from Colorado), we stayed our last Wyoming night at the Wolf Hotel in Saratoga. We were very pleased with the stay. The Wolf Hotel (opened in 1893) is one of several well-run historic hotels we found in Wyoming. It is nicely kept up with a Victorian decor, but not overly fussy or cheesy. The price was comparable to your everyday, charmless chain motel and has so much more character. The free internet worked well in the room. We had dinner in the restaurant--definitely a meat and potatoes type place--splitting a Wolf Cut of the prime rib (the menu said 16 ounces, but I think it was more), for which the restaurant is renowned. We paid extra so we both could get the salad bar and side dishes. The salad bar included a very good French onion soup and a nice array of healthy, fresh salad fixings. The prime rib was very good and served medium rare as we requested. I had a huge baked potato on the side, and my dining partner had the rice pilaf. We had no room for dessert, but we did see the huge ice cream sundaes served at a table next to us, and they looked fantastic. The service was good despite a large crowd, and the price was just right--a very good value. The only down side was the wine--a Malbec that was about a 2.5 on a 10 point scale. We probably should have sent it back and asked for something different. read more
