The beer was so nice I ordered the same one twice! I put in 20 miles hiking Rocky Mountain National Park in a day a half. I slept about 4 hours the night before to make it early for sunrise. To say that a few tasty beers were what the doctor ordered would be the understatement of the century! None of this matters, of course, to the good folks at Rocky Cut Brewing Company. This is off the main drag of Estes in an unassuming strip plaza. Humble vibes inside, a simple U-shaped bar top with seating all around, a few smaller tables, a community table, and a large patio with mostly picnic table seating. If you're lucky, snag a stool right along the Big Thompson River! Though, I recommend they fix the wooden placeholders for beers, they're leaning on the wrong side of history, we don't want any full glasses of beer reaching an unnecessary demise! Interference IPA * American IPA * 6.7% * 16oz ($7) From their website: "Climbing the Interference Boulder in Rocky Mountain National Park requires strength and power. This Colorado IPA showcases the power of hops with an intense blend forging citrus aromas with a pine forward finish. Featured ingredients: Cascade, El Dorado, Mosaic, Chinook, & Simcoe hops * Recommended adventure: hiking Black Lake, climbing the Twin Owls, skiing upper Hidden Valley." A perfectly apt description. I would summarize this beer just as they did, focusing on hops, citrus, and pine. Absolutely delicious, a memorable IPA in recent memory. I liked it so much I ordered it again and it tasted just as delicious the second time down! They also had a food truck outside, so safe to assume they do this often. Named for the famous feature on Trail Ridge Rd. Upping my age old review to 5 stars. This has now became a favorite for me since the more known place in town has gotten a little old and stale. We have ordered Paloma and their featured flight. Paloma is definitely one of the best beer I ever had. It is fruity with sweet and sour notes, which I really enjoyed. Featured flight highlights 5 of their beers, each of them with their own punch. Out of those, personal favorite was galactic portal IPA. Another stop in here while we were visiting Estes Park after a jaunt through RMNP. They still had the Altruism German lager my wife had on our last visit, so she enjoyed a pint of that. They didn't have much on the menu for me, so I ended up with a 10 oz. of the Chaos Canyon Russian imperial stout. I finished it but wasn't tempted for a second glass. Barrel aged beers. I'm sure that'll catch the attention of a few searchers. Had the bourbon barrel-aged stout and barley wine. The Stout was outstanding. Barley wine was a three out of five, IMO. These were two on a list of appropriately 12-15 taps. I had the hazy IPA, which was far from a hazy IPA but I still enjoyed it. Overall, 4/5. read more

We really like Rock Cut! We've come here a few times over the years, each time after hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), and it's a great place to unwind after a day's hike. There's lots of seating including both indoor and outdoor options and their prices are very good as well. The beer is tasty and their IPAs in particular are very good (fitting for Colorado!). The staff are fun and relaxed and it's just a fun place to visit overall. We'll definitely be back on our next trip to RMNP! read more

It was rather empty on a Monday evening but don't let that deter you from a friendly staff and great beer. I had the Interference IPA. It was cold, hoppy but smooth, with hints of citrus. Very good and a great choice for me. Husband wanted to try a flight. They have a featured flight where they choose the beers which (I think) is a little cheaper than picking your own. Husband doesn't like dark beer so he chose his own of all lighter options. We sat at a table inside but it looked like they had a small patio next to the pub. They also had a few shelves of games if you want to pass some time away. Good stop. read more

Came here after a hike in RMNP with some friends. It was the perfect spot for a cold beer and a snack after a long day of hiking. Wasn't super crowded when we got there. They have a rotating food truck spot. The day we went they had a taco truck. The beer was good & they had a lot of options to choose from. The patio is nice and somewhat covered. We stopped here after a day in the park and had a great time. Lots of great beer to choose from, a few local brand bar snacks and sodas, and a food truck outside. The place was nearly full with locals, families, and doggos doing the same thing as us. We got a few flights on the patio and some delicious Mexican food from the truck. The two women working the bar inside were so kind and checked on us a few times. My nephew tried two of the sodas and one ended up being a little flat. We let one of the gals know as we were finishing up and she caught my nephew on our way out and gave him stickers and a pack of the brewery playing cards. Quick stop before heading over to Rocky NP. Compared to the other breweries we've been to in Colorado, this place landed at the bottom for us. The beer had very one dimensional flavors. We really wanted to like this place because of the outdoor patio seating by the river. Galaxy Portal - fruity and hoppy. It tastes like the rind of the grapefruit and is super bitter. This is our second favorite. Snow Trace - better of the two IPAs. Bivy Brown Ale - it's dark beer but has a watery aftertaste. The initial taste is good though. Altruism - very bitter and our least favorite. Lime Crusher - light beer that's citrusy but not tart. This was our favorite. read more

We impulsively stopped here while visiting Colorado last year and liked it so much that it was added to our "must do" list during our trip this year. After hiking at RMNP, it's the perfect spot to relax and get delicious drinks. My husband and I both found beers that we really enjoyed, and they have high-quality sodas available as well, which thrilled our kids. There are quite a few board games available, people are friendly, and there was a food truck in the parking lot (we didn't use it, but nice to have food available). So we decided to stop at this brewery after visiting the national park. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We found a table and went to the bar to order. I got a flight of beers and added their sour to the list too. I really did like their sour but I didn't care much for their "black IPA". I liked their interference IPA a lot. I rated that one a 5.0 on untapped and I never give 5.0s. But the thing about a brewery is not always about the beer. Brewing beer is experimental, sometimes you will like it, sometimes you won't. Just because a few beers don't appeal to you doesn't mean all of a brewery's beer is bad. The people were very friendly. The food cart outside had good fries. They have an outside table that is right behind a Brook. I liked that. But we moved in because of the cold. I also got a cool pair of sunglasses. Overall: rating is 50-% for beer, 30% for service and 20% for everything else including location and ambience. The bar and inside tables were packed, but the patio area was fairly empty. We had the recommended flight, the cucumber Infused Pilsner & a Dihedral IPA.... Our trips to Estes Park have always left us having to enjoy fresh local craft beer on the Front Range and bringing growlers and crowlers with us to enjoy while here in the mountains. Knowing there to only have been *one* brewery in Estes for many years, and having tried (and not really enjoyed) their offerings, we happened to spy Rockcut on the corner as we were leaving RMNP. Famished and thirsty after hiking, the offerings were a decent variety, and their partnering with the La Cocina De Mama satisfied on many levels! My wife enjoyed the mixed fermentation sour that was tart and jaw-punchingly sour, and still had just enough of a hint of barrel funk (versus a straight kettle sour). I enjoyed the American IPA with Simcoe, Falconer's Flight, and Mosaic that while a bit hazy, was surprisingly well-balanced and not overly bitter. Prices were better-than-average for a mountain resort town, and overall the whole experience is a great addition to Estes' charm and vibe. Give it a shot!? read more
