We discussed my changing eye prescription issues, and she took the time to assure me that all my questions were answered and that I found the right prescription for reading, computer and distance. As an engineer, my questions are usually information-based, and she explained everything technically and perfectly for a non-eye-doctor person. My insurance is covered at this place, and it's close to home, that's how I stumbled upon Hour Eyes. I don't know how the "old" location was like, but the new building they've moved into looks great! It was a little intimidating because it was so nice inside, I thought I might have had to pay an arm and a leg after my insurance went through. I'm 27 and have never gotten my eyes checked, but I knew I didn't have the best vision also (just at night, to read street signs). But they walked me through the test, the doctor was awesome on helping me understand what he was explaining about my vision and where it stood. Then I picked out a cute black framed glasses (I wanted something simple because it was my first pair), Erika was great, she was caring and helped me through out the whole process. Received my glasses in less than 2 weeks (just before the new year), and I LOVE LOVE them!! I get compliments on them all the time. After insurance I only had to pay $73. I also understand how health coverage is really expensive and not everyone has the luxury of taking advantage of it, believe me... this was my first job where I'm lucky to have great coverage and I can't express how important it is, BUT health coverage IS PRICY unfortunately. I'm very thankful to have it. Overall- the service, employees, price, atmosphere.. everything about my experience there was great plus more!! Okay, so, i have to go back and remedy my initial review - the follow-up exam i am forced to have is included in the $184 i paid ... still pricey for an exam, but at least it covers my satisfaction of my contact lenses. And i've already been back 2 times (and will go again next week) as the trial contacts i keep receiving are acting up... These follow-ups are actually beneficial! Now if only i can find contacts that agree with my eyeballs Again, the staff is very nice and accommodating. That's the best thing about this place. And also no air-puff test. :) read more

$140 for 1 box of Acuvue Oasys Hydraluxe daily 90 day supply. Hour Eyes confirmed that is the price I have to pay. Eye doctor is wonderful though! I think I know when I'm being ripped off. tl;dr So I spoke to a gentleman earlier from the same store to investigate the price and he mentioned a box of Oasys was around $70. This box usually costs $70-80 when you do a search online and I called VSP(my insurance provider) and Eyeconic.com for pricing and they agreed that I was being charged almost DOUBLE. That is essentially a 100% mark up folks!!! First of all, I'm not an idiot. So I called again and I spoke to Rebecca and I did mention that their pricing is a bit steep and unethical and I was told by Rebecca on the phone "Oh don't go there". I have to agree with other Yelp reviewers that their customer service is sub-par, instead of trying to fix the problem and make their customer happy, they just tell you "I'm all by myself right now and I can't do it right now, I can do it later when we close or tomorrow". So I waited for my order to be cancelled. I then ordered it at Costco for 2 boxes for $140. What a difference in price, kinda shocking and kinda sad that they would claim this amount from my insurance. The doctor is wonderful though. I had a good experience during my eye exam with the doctor. However, when I tried to get a copy of my prescription, it was an very unpleasant experience and took a lot of effort... I didn't get a copy of my contacts prescription when I'm done with my eye exam. I emailed the office and requested for a copy of the prescription and got an blank prescription. I emailed them again and finally got my prescription but the contact lenses brand name is wrong. I called the front desk and the lady was very inpatient! She was not willing to hear me and keep telling me it's too late to change the brand name because she didn't even let me say when I had my exam! It was only two month ago. After talking to her on the phone for 20 minuets she was finally willing to talk to the doctor and check if they can add the brand I've always used on the prescription. After about 40minutes, I finally got the prescription with the right brand name and I had to call her several times. Also when I did my eye exam I told the doctor the brand I'm using and he thinks it still works well for me but wrote down an different brand that he recommended on my prescription. Their frames selection is lacking. They have a ton of hipster glasses but there really isn't much on other options. Though the staff said they could order other frames for me if I liked. I loved my experience here! I have gone two years without getting the glasses prescription I needed because my first experience getting glasses cost me $400 for the wrong prescription and actually made my vision worse. After that, I decided it was better just to keep my money and not be able to see than spend it and still... not be able to see. Hour Eyes is the place I finally went to after all my procrastinating. Their tools are top of the line and the newest technology. The exam was a breeze, and didn't have to wear sunglasses when I left. I told the doctor that I hated my last prescription and he catered the exam to meet my needs. He even came back after he left for the day to give me a few more tips I might find useful. He was incredibly helpful, and when I tried on my contacts I could see perfectly right away. Plus, they don't bother my eyes. They have a great selection of frames and a woman helped me find the best ones for me in just a few minutes. Everyone was incredibly nice and knowledgeable. I got my glasses here recently & I was so happy with them but mostly with my experience at Hour Eyes Optical. The second I walked in I was greeted & one of the employees (I wish I could remember names...) was very helpful in finding frames. Then I sat down & another employee walked me through in detail how my new transitional bifocals would work. I was blown away by their knowledge & patience. While I was there another person was trying to learn how to put contact in & the employee who helped me find frames sat with her for at least an hour watching her put them in, giving advice, reassuring her. How impressive. When I went back to pick up my glasses I received equally impressive service & they adjusted my glasses & were very helpful. I highly suggest trying them out. This place is a DISASTER. The eye doctor was fine. The staff were absolutely chaos. The woman who helped me find glasses was the most disorganized person I have ever worked with. She wasn't clear on how insurance worked at all, and she took hours trying to get my paperwork done (literally hours: I was there from 11 - 2:30). Once she finally had the paperwork done by hand, she asked if I would like to leave and pay when I picked up my glasses because she still had to enter it into the computer. I said sure, after asking several times to make sure this would not affect my insurance coverage for the year or my ability to use my FSA account to pay. She assured me it would not, and was wrong on both counts. I was billed for January for my insurance, and my FSA claim was denied because the payment was a different year than the service (late December, early January). So now I have a year to wait before I can get my eyes checked again, and I owe money back into my FSA. To top it all off, my glasses were wrong when they came in. I had ordered fatigue-reduction lenses, and instead ended up with short-vision computer glasses which are similar but not the same. Avoid if you value knowledgeable staff or any form of organization from your healthcare provider. I am left scrambling because I now have an unexpected bill for glasses. AVOID AVOID AVOID. read more

I would take Aaron F's review and delete it if I could, sounds like he had more of an insurance problem than with this establishment itself. I called to see if they had my lens in stock prior to going down there, and sure enough they did. I walk in, thinking they were going to try to sway my to the expensive section, but they did they opposite, they totally helped with the frame that fits me the best. They took a lot of time ensuring I had the best frame for my face. I ended up getting a higher priced (really cheap considering i went with Prada) with zero pressure to buy them. I NEVER had so much personal attention in any eyewear store, let a lone in retail situation. They fixed my boyfriends glasses while we waited (free and bought elsewhere, required a lot of work.) I will never go to another place for glasses/contacts EVER, neither should you! The store is BEAUTIFUL and the staff are some of the most friendly people I have met. *Back to Aaron's post*, he stated that "Costco was significantly (almost $100 less) for the same lenses..." If you wanted poor quality frames then you should have went to Costco! Previously I mentioned they repaired my boyfriends glasses, (damaged almost beyond repair!) that were less than 1 year old (from Costco, FYI, and they fixed them for free BTY) I found his statement clearly false, Costco does not even carry the same quality lens they do, and my lens where cheaper than my boyfriends, FYI. I love this store, you will too... So what it all boils down to is, if you want quality at a GREAT price, with personal attention go to Hour Eyes Optical! After several disappointing attempts to get my eyes checked (plan ole frustrating!), my girlfriend called Warren from another eye place and set up an appointment for the same day. I walked in and he had already set up my paperwork for me and knew who I was (which was great given that I was terrified after not having my eyes checked for 10+ years). He was very friendly and respectful. The tech was informative and let me know what every step was, what to expect, and what was happening, which was super. The technology they used was impressive to say the least, the doctor was nice, and after all was said and done, Warren helped me pick out a frame that I was comfortable with, in price and style, right away. Tiffany literally dropped what she was doing when I walked in. That kind of attention on the hill is so unusual, it really stood out in my mind. She gave me enough space to look around for myself but constantly checked back in with her expert opinion. She seemed to understand my style (i.e., actually listened to me rather than looking at my face-shape) and didn't recommend anything that wasn't in the family of things I was already considering. She even managed to schedule me in over another cancellation to help me move things along faster. Tiffany also called my insurance to verify my benefits to help me make a financial decision on which lenses and frames would fit within my budget. I visited Hour Eye for the first time for my general eye exam and that will also be my last time for several reasons: - the doctor gave me the wrong prescription. I have a terrible headache every time I try to wear the new prescription. At first I thought I was just not used to it yet, but now I can be sure it was wrong. During the exam, I always felt like he was rushing me but I tried to answer everything as accurately as I could. Still went home with wrong prescription. - after paying all the bills, I asked if I can have access to my prescription online or can they email me, and the guy simple said "no, any other questions?". I was shocked at how rude he was! - they were not clear about what's covered by my insurance and what's not. Well maybe I should have been more careful and ask but I told them I came for a general check-up, so I think they should have told me what's not paid by my insurance for general check-up. Only came here because I recently moved close to this place but guess I will have to find another one. read more

I had a fantastic experience from start to finish. Every single staff member I spoke with were so pleasant and easy to speak with (for someone who is kind of socially awkward, this is a big deal), and the doctor was thorough (and also easy to talk to). I've only been to one other eye doctor many years ago, and I have to say--it was like night and day. When I got my eyes checked at another place, I was told "eh, maybe you're a little farsighted, I don't know--here's a prescription, now wander around the store and pick something out". Okay, they didn't literally say that, but they basically said that. I kind of figured that's how these things were supposed to go because I didn't have a frame of reference. Well, Hour Eyes Optical made me realize that appointments are not supposed to be like that at all. I was convinced that I didn't need glasses when I walked in, and I walked out with the knowledge that, no, I really could benefit from glasses. (Also, I learned that I'm actually nearsighted.) Actually, to be honest, I still a little nervous that maybe I didn't really need glasses or that maybe somehow the prescription might be wrong and they'd be blurry. My glasses arrived faster than expected and when I tried them on the prescription was spot on. So, I was very impressed with how accurate the prescription was, but what perhaps impressed me the most was just how much time they spent with me. I asked a million questions and they explained everything I needed to know--the differences between kinds of lens types and coatings, my insurance benefits, what my prescription actually meant, how to get used to progressives, etc. I have bad decision paralysis about some types of purchases, and I was pretty worried about buying my first pair of glasses. What if I picked something I hated later? Well, they walked around the store with me for awhile and helped me pick out some that I liked. And by some, I mean 20. Because, yeah, again, I'm bad at decisions. After that, I plopped them on the desk of the person who was helping me and kept taking those 20 glasses on and off and staring in the mirror and being what I imagine to be an incredibly annoying customer to most people--except they never made me feel that way at all. The person helping me helped me narrow down my choices and when I still had trouble, she even called over some of the other staff to give input. For the record, they helped me make the right choice. I love how they look. I never felt like they tried to up-sell me (on the contrary, they helped me pick out frames that were affordable for my budget). Once they arrived, they helped fit them. Excellent experience at Hour Eyes! About two weeks ago I had my eye exam here. Dr. Bluff was very friendly and professional, and the exam itself was easy and painless. Rebecca was most helpful assisting me in finding frames that fit my style and face, and she was very efficient in getting my insurance processed and my new frames ordered. Fast forward to today. My new glasses have arrived! But there's a teensy tiny scratch on the inside of the frame! I wouldn't even have noticed, but Nick did and a new frame was ordered before I even came to pick them up. The new frame should be in within a few days, and they will switch the lenses out. I'm very impressed with the level of service and courtesy and definitely recommend coming here! read more

Hour Eyes Optical does not give me any comfort that it is taking sufficient precautions and safety measures during the pandemic or that it is a professionally run place. The woman at the desk left her mask off and started talking to me across the room without the mask on. A disheveled looking man was guarding entry to the door. Washington State requires customer-facing employees to wear masks and Hour Eyes Optical itself requires customers to have masks on. The doctor was, however, professional. Regardless, we are living through an extraordinary period with the pandemic and I do not recommend this place unless it takes better safety precautions and is run more professionally. read more

Excellent customer service from Kyle & Rebecca. I bought MODO frames from a competitor and stepped on them causing issues. The competitor tried to fix them twice and were unable to make them stay straight. They said I needed new arms & hinges and were really passive with making a decision. I got fed up and went in this morning toHour Optical. They saw the issue and said they'd send my old frames back as defective. They switched out my lens and game me new frames without 1 single hassel. Kyle even offered to adjust my cheap sunglasses. I am wowed and they will be receiving my business moving forward. You just don't get customer service like that anymore and people willing to put the trigger on a solution so quicky!!! read more

I spent upwards of $900 at Hour Eyes this year getting a prescription and a couple of pairs of glasses. Everything was great in terms of the exam and glasses. However, when I decided to get a cheaper backup pair from a different place, they didn't respond to the request to fax my prescription to the other place. I then called them personally and repeated the request, still to no avail. I've now asked them to email it to me so that I can send it over to the other company and informed them they'd be getting a negative Yelp review. In future I'll be carrying a paper copy of my prescription out of the office and keeping it myself. read more

Everyone was professional, polite, the doctor gave me a great recommendation and had me return a week later, only billing the insurance once. Rebecca was most helpful in assisting me with selecting a new pair of glasses. We got opinions from a couple others who were happy to help and we actually chose one of the least expensive pairs. I wasn't "up-sold" but was guided to select the best package of features (anti-glare, yes; transitions (for sun), no). Decided to stop in based on positive reviews on Yelp. Showed up Saturday afternoon, around 4pm, and it was packed, lots of people browsing. Great selection of mens frames, especially higher-end designers, such as Theory, Porsche Design, Zegna, etc. I wasn't interested in spending a lot of money on frames since I wear my glasses only occassionaly, so I was pleased to find several lower-priced brands, which were still quite stylish. I already had my prescription, so I just needed the frames and lenses. There was a bit of wait because of the crowds, but as soon as the crowd thinned, I was helped. The optician who helped me offered good advice on the style of the frame and how it fit my face and there was no pressure to move to a higher-priced frame. In fact, even though they were closing in 20 minutes, they were willing to make my lenses on the spot, so I could go home that same day with my new glasses. Overall, highly recommended for good selection, albeit focused on designers at the higher end of the spectrum, but, in my mind, what really set Hour Eyes apart was the fantastic service. read more

Professional, fast, flexible and extremely extremely helpful! This was my first visit to Hour Eyes Cap Hill, and I was nothing but impressed. The staff - all very friendly and definitely willing to go the extra mile, often times 2 people assisting me when I came in. I felt right at home and confident that I was getting exactly what I needed. When I made my appointment, they spent a few minutes gathering my information so that they had my insurance in their system and he told me exactly what to expect my insurance to cover. This way there were no surprises and it saved time when I was there for an appointment. As for the appointment, I was in and out on my lunch hour- with a much better Rx and overall a very positive experience! The Dr - Very professional. He explained all procedures, and was thorough yet efficient. I got the impression that he really cared, even during the follow up contact fitting. I was prompted to write after reading the 2.26 1 star post. I was NOT made to fill out this form, I was never asked for any form of payment until I picked up contacts that I knew my insurance wouldn't cover. I also refuse to believe the accusations made about the staff. They were quite honestly the friendliest group on Broadway! There were multiple patients in the office with me, and everyone was receiving equal excellent customer service. You won't be disappointed if you go here, I highly recommend them. These people are incompetent. I ordered a fairly straightforward pair of glasses, waiting over a week for them to arrive only to find out I have to wait another 10 days to have them remade because their lab screwed up. They have their nerve collecting up front for my glasses then hand me excuses for why the product I have already paid for now must take twice as long to receive. There are labs that make glasses in an hour. I know because I've used them before (and probably should in the future). These should have been immediately remade and overnight shipped to the store. I will make sure all my Amazon colleagues know that for proper quality and acceptable customer obsession, go elsewhere. These folks only have an obsession for excuse making. I should never have paid for these up front. Now they have my money. I have only their lame rationalizations and no glasses! read more

Horrible, horrible, horrible. I have also been trying to get my glasses for over 6 weeks. Every time I go in, it is a different problem: scratched lenses, botched order, insurance mixup, I was given the wrong hours of operation when told to pick up my glasses. NONE of these errors did they own up to. They blamed everything on "circumstances" or "these things just happen." I've now been there a total of 8 times in 6 weeks. The kicker, my new frames broke today! I am returning everything and going elsewhere. Since Warren left, this place has gone down the tubes. read more
