We walked over on a beautiful winter evening for a drink and dinner, not expecting to love it as much as we did. I made reservations that morning for an early dinner (happy hour daily from 4-6pm!). We grabbed a drink at the bar and brought it to our upstairs table overlooking the expansive whiskey library. I got the strawberry lemonade with tequila, my partner got a mule. Both drinks were truly excellent, crafted with quality and fresh ingredients/mixers. They went down very easy. I got the filet, cooked perfectly. My partner got the chicken which was so juicy and flavorful. We shared plates and loved every bite. The service was great. I was in Buffalo for a conference and afterwards my colleagues and I went to this wonderful bar that was recommended to our group. The atmosphere was very friendly from the greeting at the door to the awesome bartending staff. It was happy hour so we ordered some drinks and later some food. While at the bar we got to know Adam S. our bartender. He was a master at making drinks. We watched him stir 2 drinks with one hand, and shake a Shaker with the other. We enjoyed everything we ordered (Brisket sliders, fries, fried pickles and our mixed drinks made to perfection by Adam S.) When we left we took a picture with Adam S. and told him everytime we are in Buffalo we'd come and see him. If I lived in Buffalo Lucky Day would be my regular spot. read more

Lucky day is one of our favorite date night/special occasion spots. They have lots of seating with intimate lighting and music. They can accommodate larger parties but usually I see smaller groups of 6 or less. The servers are always friendly and there is never a long wait time for food even on busy nights. The staff do a great job to keep the flow moving smoothly. The drinks are some of the best I've ever had-both cocktails and mocktails and the food is superb while offering many gluten free options. I'm a pretty accomplished whisky fan and Lucky Day stands out as one of, if not THE, best whisky bars I have visited. Here's what makes it amazing: 1) Everyone is welcome. Come as you are dressed, whatever your background. I saw a guy in a basketball jersey while a group celebrated nearby in fine attire. 2) all whiskies are celebrated. Solid list of Bourbon, Rye, Irish, Japanese, Scotch and more. And unlike some other places (looking at you Jack Rose, DC) the list is available online and kept up to date. Everything I ordered was available!! 3) great bartenders. Handsomely dressed to set the atmosphere, friendly, mixing great cocktails, and willing to scale the shelves to retrieve pours. 4) local is key - from the familiarity of the clientele, to local distillery features, to live music ... you are in Buffalo in all the best ways. I was so excited to eat here. I'm not sure why my experience didn't match up with the great reviews here. We came on a Wednesday and it was pretty slow. We were seated immediately. I ordered an old fashioned off the featured menu which was great. I also ordered the ribeye and swapped the mashed potatoes for fries. My mom had the lobster tail and 1 scallop and carrots. The steak was rough. It was so hard to cut through. I didn't finish it (maybe ate half) and it just was not good. The fries were just ok but could've been crispier. My mom didn't love her lobster tail and said it was rubbery and just not great. The vibe is super cool and the drinks were great but the splurge of our meal was a little disappointing and not quite worth the price. Must've been an off night or something. read more

This restaurant failed to stand behind their food or rectify the problem with our dining experience. We were a table of 6 on a special occasion in late April. This was a favorite restaurant of ours until 2 of our party who shared the "bacon" appetizer developed acute food poisoning after. When I say acute I mean unable to leave the house or eat for 4 days not just a little tummy ache. After contacting the restaurant we were told that the manager was going to contact us that day. After no call back for several days we were called back again. Management offered to comp. the appetizer. This might have been appropriate if the appetizer was merely sub par. When one of their customers is bed ridden for 4 days it amounts to a slap in the face. Any restaurant can take your money. The good ones stand behind their food and are accountable when something goes wrong. The great ones go above and beyond to keep you as a customer when something does go wrong. The poor ones fail to realize that word of mouth beats any advertising and that the customer is still , even in 2026 , ALWAYS right. Enjoyed a delicious dinner here on a Friday night. While they do take reservations, we didn't have one but lucked out and still got a table with only a little bit of a wait. While we waited, we got drinks from the bar. I ordered the Hartman manhattan which was delicious. Once we were seated, we shared a dozen oysters as an appetizer which were very good. For dinner, I enjoyed the Mac n cheese which was enough to fill me up without having leftovers. The other people I was with ordered the duck risotto and the seafood pasta, which they also really enjoyed. For service, we interacted with the hostess, a bartender, our server, and the manager, and everyone was friendly and provided great service! The ambiance inside this building is just amazing. They did a great job of honoring what was there and creating a very cool bar. The dining booths are also just very well done. If you like that sort of thing like i do the old beams and bricks are everywhere. They added a nice touch by separating the booths with antique carpets. The bar is also very cool but we dined instead of sitting at the bar. As to the food it's in the expensive side but excellent. We had the raw oysters, excellent, a very good mushroom soup and a lobster pasta. This dish had so much lobster and was served with a very nice fish based tomato sauce with crème fraiche so sort of a pink sauce. My only complaint is it was a bit cold and could have used more pasta thrown in but excellent nevertheless. Lucky Day was a spot we would hit for a special occasions 2-3x a year for many years. Our experience yesterday will stop that ritual dead in its tracks. We decided to go for dinner to celebrate our 6 year anniversary and were surprised by many things throughout our visit. We recognized none of the wait staff which suggests a recent turnover. The restaurant and bar did seem well-staffed based on the number of customers though, which customer count seemed surprisingly low for a Saturday dinner hour. Drinks were not made well- a whiskey sour served room temperature with an off ratio, and a sazerac that was barely 2 fingers high in a rocks glass. For food, we ordered a Caesar salad and steaks - none of which were done well. The salad had brown bits where the lettuce was starting to go bad, and the cheese to dressing ratio was way off - too much cheese, barely any dressing. My fiancé ordered a filet medium rare which came back medium well. I ordered a ribeye medium and it came out well done. For what it's worth- it was a strange looking cut too - not your typical looking ribeye, which probably made it cook weird. Also odd given the "hand cut steaks" advertising on their menu. We decided to send the ribeye back and deal with the slightly overdone filet, not wanting to be "those people". It took quite a while for our waitress to even check in on us to see how first bites were, so we definitely weighed out how much it was worth sending it back. It also wasn't very busy at the time (many empty tables) so the long gaps between check ins seemed unexplainable. When I mentioned the issue to the waitress, she asked me if I wanted it redone and stressed it would be a while to have it come back. Nothing wrong with that technically, but it seemed odd that there wasn't much apology or effort to right the wrong without making us feel like we caused the inconvenience somehow. By the time I got the ribeye back my fiancé was already done eating. The redone ribeye was done the right way, thankfully, so it was worth having a few bites and taking the rest home for leftovers. We were asked if we wanted dessert, which we declined, and asked for the bill. The tab was full value with a hand written 'happy anniversary!' at the top. I wasn't expecting them to discount something, but it would've been nice to see given the fact they clearly acknowledged the anniversary note I made in the reservation and we had a food issue. For $60-$65 a plate for steaks and a bill for 2 being $175 pre-tip, we were incredibly frustrated at this experience. There are many other places you can go for a special occasion steak dinner that will be flawless for that price in Buffalo - The chophouse, Giancarlo's, Hutches, to name a few. It's sad to think this place has lost its sparkle, and it stinks to leave this kind of review- but I would never want anyone celebrating something special to experience what we did. Here's hoping they pull themselves together and make a comeback- although we will probably be too gun-shy to gamble the $200 to try again. read more

I've never written a Yelp review before, but what happened here was so appalling that I feel obligated to warn others. When my friends and I tried to enter this bar, one of my friends -- who has a visible disability -- was refused entry. The staff told us his disability would "scare away girls." I genuinely couldn't believe I was hearing something so ignorant, cruel, and discriminatory in 2025. It didn't stop there -- throughout the encounter, the staff made sexist, racist, and bigoted remarks that made everyone in our group deeply uncomfortable. They spoke to us with condescension and zero professionalism, laughing as if blatant discrimination was acceptable behavior. This kind of treatment is disgusting and completely unacceptable anywhere, let alone in a business that serves the public. No one should ever be treated this way -- not for a disability, not for their gender, not for their race. If you care even remotely about respect, equality, or basic human decency, do not give this place your business. I sincerely hope the owners take accountability and retrain or replace staff before more people have to go through what we did read more

As much as I love Lucky Day for the drinks, you should not sleep on the food either! They have one of the most delicious chicken sandwiches and burger I've had...period! And they're both available as part of happy hour for seven dollars each. Highly recommend checking them out. read more

Came here for a solo happy hour dinner. As I entered, I was greeted with a smile by the staff at the podium. And I was able to sit at a regular table to order from the happy hour menu which I thought was nice. There was a real candle on the table and that was like the only light. It was so dark that I had to use my two iPhones to take photos - one to light up and one to take photos. (photos of food taken using built-in flash never come out good. That's why I do this way.) The happy hour menu prices are very reasonable. I had a Thrasher Burger ($7), a glass of Cabernet ($8) and Fried Whiskey Pickles ($12 non-happy hour price). I should have ordered Grilled Asparagus or Fries that are priced much lower than $12 as a side for my dinner. I didn't think the Fried Whiskey Pickles would cost that much. Oh well. Overall, the food, service and ambiance were all good. I highly recommend this place especially if you are staying at the hotel across the street. read more

That's all I got a photo of. Really yummy fresh seafood. Then we had the Brussels sprouts and I was surprised they were sweet, but it worked well. Super yummy! We got the Ceasar salad and also the French onion soup which was soooo delicious. The bread has a nice charred flavor with the onion soup so good. Highly recommend! I've been dying to come here from quite some time. The bar is stunning. The ambiance is "I can't believe I'm in Buffalo." I even love the golden and black color scheme of the logo with skull head on a penny. I got a Classic Old Fashioned to drink. Tasted fabulous at first. But it had waay to many small ice cubes and got watered down too fast. Best French onion soup. Best brussels sprouts. And best french fries I've ever had. Random, but facts. Chose to use Uber but it looked like plenty of street parking plus a paid lot next door. The ambiance is dark and lit mostly by candlelight. Service was friendly. It was around 5 pm so not crowded and it was happy hour. They have a few drink specials and food specials for happy hour. The menu also includes whiskey flights but whew those were expensive but they looked good! The drinks were strong and the food was excellent. This is a great place to Relax and have a drink while listening to some great live music.. The manager stopped at the table and had a conversation. He made some recommendations in terms of drinks. Inside the vibe gave off a vintage speak easy feel to it that's was very clean with lots of tables for dinner and a big bar area. During the duration of my short time in Buffalo, I came across this gem and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I am no whiskey connoisseur, but I do love a good Old Fashioned. If you're able to make it in for their 4-6PM happy hour (which includes weekends), I highly recommend going - You cannot beat $6 for an Old Fashioned (and a great one, at that). Absolutely loved the vibe here. Trendy, vintage, historic, and sultry are all words that come to mind to describe the ambiance. The dim lighting, brick walls & the massive display of whiskey selection was all very aesthetically pleasing and really sets the mood for the evening. The beef tartare was flavorful, but not the best I've ever had. I did feel it should have come with more crostini and I expected a raw egg yolk to be placed in the center (I guess they have a different take here). On a more positive note, we decided to treat ourselves to the seafood tower and this was truly a 10/10. I was worried the snow crab legs would be underwhelming (the snow crab legs I've had in the past were on the small side containing very little meat), but this was not the case here. The shrimp were also wonderful, oysters were fresh & the lobster was delicious. Definitely worth splurging on if you're in the mood for seafood. We went there for dinner for my friends 30th birthday. I made the reservations online which was easy. They called me the day of to confirm my reservation. The service was good. Ambiance is kind of dark & mysterious. I ordered the loaded baked potato soup which was on the specials and fried pickles both were really good. My husband got the Mac n cheese as an app. It is good but it does taste like goldfish which was interesting. I got the filet for my entree and my husband got the crab legs. Everyone's food at the table was great minus the crab legs which came out cold and you could tell they just heated them up when they brought them back out which also took forever. By the time they offered to replace my husband's meal we were all done eating so he didn't end up eating anything besides the appetizers which was disappointing but they made it right - it happens. Drinks were good and food was good otherwise (others at our table got the chicken, seafood pasta, burger and a ribeye - no complaints).
