Beautiful house of worship This was use as a gospel concert venue It seat thousands and sounds system is equipped to make a concert experience spectacular What I don't like is the parking situation. I had to park in the remote lot I believe there are shuttles but Im in hood health so I decide to walk it was several blocks but doable. Many dynamic ministers and musical guest are always in the house. This venue is also used for concerts, sporting events, receptions and graduations. read more

Went to this venue to a women's Congress to see Sarah Jakes- Roberts. While the conference was so amazing and the venue big & spacious the vendors that come out to serve food is so unorganized that I waited in line for food for over an hour and end up having to leaving the line because they didn't have anyone to organize the like so ppl were coming from every direction with no structure at all. Imagine driving 2.5 hours to Chicago straight from a long day of work and thinking you can grab a a quick dinner while enjoying the show but yet you have to literally go hungry because of a huge venue like that being not so organized. If I could give zero stars I would. This place is worthless as a venue. My children brought tickets for us to attend the Mother's Day concert. We get there and sit 45 minutes on the Bishop Ford expressway. The traffic was chaotic with no direction when we finally did get up to the place it was 7:45 and there was no parking not even in the surrounding neighborhood. So that was $225.00 down the drain. I purchased 2 tickets for your Mothers Day Concert for myself and my disabled sister. I flew into town for the event from VA and experienced the most unorganized parking for the venue I've ever experienced. Even with handicapped plates, we were unable to park and after driving around for over 2 hours, we were finally told there was shuttle parking at another location on Cottage Grove. When we arrived there, which was 1 1/2 hours after the concert began, we were informed parking was full. At this point, we now missed the concert. Why weren't we told when we continually asked during the 2+ hours driving around of the shuttle parking? I was told not many of the parking attendants knew of the additional parking. I as well as others that experienced this should be afforded a refund. I am very disappointed at this experience while missing a concert I flew in town to attend. I expected better than this from a large venue such as this, let alone the staff not knowing what arrangements were made to accommodate the traffic of vehicles. I am equally appalled that someone that was clearly handicapped with plates designating such and unable to climb stairs of the bus was unable to locate accessible parking for the event, thus missing the concert. My daughter got tickets a month ago for Mother's Day and we were really looking forward to it. We drove from the Northwest Suburbs and got within range of seeing the Church and Parking Lot. We sat there along with at least a hundred other other from both directions for an hour or more. When we got up to the gate, there was sign saying the Lot Was Full! There were two people there but they weren't directing traffic or explaining what happened or what to do. Finally, we were told to go to 108th and Cottage Grove to Park, but the show had already started. :( Fortunately we were able to use the bathroom at McDonald's. Some people started to walk because it wasn't clear when the bus was going to pick up people from 108th. Then the buss wasn't Handicapped accesible. We finally just turned around and went to Maxwell Street in our Sunday Best. The star is for the performers who performed under these circumstances. Otherwise, I would give them No stars. I am sure the building was close to half empty. I will never go there again for anything. ethomas read more

katheryn k... gimme a break. If it's that much of an eyesore to you, turn your head and look the other way. That's like me saying the White Sox stadium is an eyesore because I have to see it when I'm driving down the expressway. Only people who don't understand the value of a worship center, that doubles as a multicultural center, on the south side of Chicago would find it unnecessary. Also, it appears you have been misinformed on more than one point. 1. it does NOT seat 20,000. 2. it DOES seat 10,000 and there are city codes that have to be adhered to when building a facility of this magnitude, related to parking. So the idea that "people have to be bussed in" is incorrect. There are plenty of parking spaces available, to accommodate the seating capacity. If people ARE bussed in that is by choice, if they choose to park at any number of auxiliary parking lots in the vicinity, among other reasons. 3. "Cops", typically, are off duty when working events at any arena or facility. 4. "Most people in this neighborhood don't even go to church" - would you care to cite the source of your statistics? Tell that to the average of 8.5 thousand people who worship there on Sunday and 1,300 on Wednesday nights. Fact of the matter is that there are people who feel that what church offers (a direct path to worship the God of their choice) is very necessary. Seriously. read more

i'm only writing this review because this was about the most unnecessary thig this neighborhood needed. Seriously? A church that hold 20 thousand or so I hear? Most people in this neighborhood don't even go to church, the people that go here are bussed in, and don't let me forget the fact that I can't even drive down 115th street on a Sunday because cops are directing traffic..for a church? Silly! Cops have better things to do than to be directing traffic for a church! Who ever is responsible for this idea..bad and unnecessary! So now whenever I visit home, I have to see this huge eyesore from the expressway! ugh read more

When I first joined Salem in March of 2006, I just felt right about my decision, and I haven't regreted it yet. I feel that the Word given at Salem is awesome, & encouraging, I feel like my life has been changed, and it keeps on getting better. I love being a part of the ministry, and Sunday school classes, although I really need to start going to Wed night bible study. I enjoy receiving the Word no matter whose giving it, Pastor Meeks, Charlie Dates, or Rev. Dearal Jordan. I'm an active member of Salem which I never thought I would say, because I used to be intimidated by large churches, but once you get involved in different ministries, and Sunday school classes, it seems like it gets smaller, and smaller and smaller, and you get to know everyone. Salem is a praying church, a fasting church, and they do so much for the community. I am a proud member of this church, and encourage others to come visit us on Sunday at 10am and see for yourself why it IS "The Greatest Church in the World". ;-) read more

The building: Wonderful location, so glad it is easy to access. Spacious seating, great sounds, every seat is a good seat. Beautiful interior and decorated very nice. Plenty of bathrooms!! no lines. The church: Salem Baptist Church of Chicago, great preaching, great worship music, wonderful ministry to those in need. Great womens ministry. So many of the arts are appreciated. Everyone is loved and accepted, all ages, races, social and economic standards. The physcially challenged are welcomed and accomodated. read more

It's a wonderful place to go for different concerts. I love the seating. Every seat is a good one. Sometimes the parking lot is full but they accommodate you with buses to pickup you from the other parking and take you to the church and back to your car. If you don't want to get on the bus its in walking distance. You can't beat that with a stick!!!!!! read more

Mother's day Event on May 13: The organization of this event was DREADFUL. No organization whatsoever. I find it appalling that organization was so horrible, considering this church does MANY events. I will start off with the parking situation - there simply was not enough parking to accommodate the THOUSANDS of people attending this event. I paid over $240 for me, my mom and my sister to attend this and we were 1.5 hours late getting INTO the church, simply because I had to constantly drive around looking for parking...and was constantly stuck in traffic with those who were in the same predicament. Then I FINALLY get inside the church and had HORRIBLE seats that were NOT what I paid for. Why would I pay $70 per ticket just to be told "there MIGHT be some seats OVER THERE" - really? Shuttle buses were not even properly marked; this caused A HUGE problem when leaving the church, because you had NO IDEA which buses were going where. It was a nightmare and I wish I could get my money back. We didn't make it home until 1:30am on a Sunday night dealing with House of Hope's MESS read more

This is a good church with great preaching straight from the Bible! Buses are for transporting women to and from the women's Sunday school and the children to and from children & youth Sunday School/ church. They are also used for special ministry like Corner prayer. The church seats 10,000 can legally add more sorry don't have that #. The majority of Roseland, Rosemoor, Pullman, West Pullman, Beverly, Chatham, Chesterfield, Avalon etc attend all the churches in these areas. If there are plain clothes police directing traffic they are members on their day off and volunteers of the parking ministry. It's funny how people don't go to church or never have been to Salem can be so critical of what they don't know. @ katheryn K...you could have a break if u knew what you were talking about every neighborhood need a church no matter what the size is. and most of the people who go to the church do or did live in your neighborhood. i lived here and moved but didn't leave my church. talk what you know and not what you think. and the reason people are bussed in is they don't have a ride and called for one . what church offers you a way to come worship?? turn your head and look the other way if it's such an EYESORE,,, you couldn't have JESUS in your life to say such a thing. and WE, REV. JAMES T MEEKS' members are responsible for him wanting a bigger church to house ALL of his members in.. we are not sorry nor silly for wanted to have a place big enough for all of us to WORSHIP in at the same time. and as for you driving down 115th,,,, try any other street on a SUNDAY where there is a church no matter what the size you will be directed out of believers way...and i pray that we, THE HOUSE OF HOPE, get 20,000 more souls. read more
