This whole quarantine has got me checking out new businesses in my city that I typically probably wouldn't try out, but one hobby that my fiancè and I recently got into has been trying out different craft beers. I've seen and heard about this place in the past and finally decided to give this place a try. My first impression when walking in was how big this place was. They've got all types of spirits (hence the name I guess), and most things are properly labeled with price points. Our main point of visiting this place though was to check out their craft beer selection, which they had a freezerful collection of it. I'm personally knocking down a star because the bottles on the shelves definitely could've used a little more dusting. We had to dust off our bottles that were from the shelves when we got home. Always drop by House of Spirits and finally wanted some craft beer and decided to stop by. Big private parking lot. Friendly service. I was expecting them to be like Craft Kings and they are very similar. Difference, they have a lot of liquor and wine. Only drawback here is the pricing. WARNING TRUMP SUPPORTERS. I appreciate how close you are to me, but have had a few interactions here that have been off putting.. especially the last. Not sure what his name is but in multiple occasions I've been rushed to decide what I'm buying because said employee wants to rush to a near by retailer to order food/drinks before they close. Pros - The guy behind the counter was helpful.  Cons - The amount of craft beer here is very limited. Went in expecting a big selection and left pretty disappointed. It has less of a selection than Craft Beer Kings (El Monte), Bevmo and The Cellar (Whittier).  I could only see myself going here if I lived within walking distance, otherwise save yourself some time and gas and go to one of the places above. read more

If you want to pay almost double then go to House of Spirits. I did. I stopped by House of Spirits to pick up a bottle of whiskey for a get together. Not knowing much about whiskey, I asked for a recommendation and the fella at the counter asked me what my budget was. I told him $200 and he in turn sold me a bottle of Macalllan 15 for $195. A few days later I found out that the same bottle sells for between $100 and $120 at other local markets and stores. So am I mad? No. When it comes to business it's fair game, especially if you don't do you homework before hand but it's quite obvious that the owner of House of Spirits is looking to turn a quick buck by severly overcharging his customers. In the end, he may have got me for almost double, but ultimately he looses out on a customer that would have spent far much more. read more

Selection and quality options 4.4 stars. Friendly staff and open to suggestion give it the upgrade. The level of spirit quality is awesome. You can find items that are hard to find anywhere. Japanese whiskey and scotch options! Almost impossible in all of Los Angeles. Beer, craft, IPA... Mixers,.... It's a baby Bevmo with a better high end. Pricing is a bit high, but you come here for choice and selection. Not for price. If you're picky, this is the place. A true gem in the rough. read more

JAW DROPPING SELECTION OF CRAFT BREWS! They sell The Lost Abbey, the Bruery, Stone, Epic, Dogfish Head, New Belgium, among a bunch of other great craft companies. Not only do they have the flagship brew from each brewery (ie Stone Arrogant Bastard), but they have seasonals, collaborations, and limited releases! I found New Belgium's Lips of Faith Cocoa Mole here, and have literally depleted their stock in a week. (Sorry guys.) They also have a "mix and match a six pack" section where you can choose from roughly 25(?) 12 oz. bottles. Their prices are great too! I found Stone's Smoked Porter for $3.99. I couldn't stop staring at that price... I heard the owner is a true connoiseiur of beers and loves to share the joys of craft brews. I'm so glad they are promoting all styles of brewing (from the locals and nation wide!)! Come here to expand your beer knowledge without pretentious on-lookers or people judging you. Freezers full of beer and wine that go on for days! Super selection of craft beer, the majority of it cold. You wouldn't suspect such vast selection at this liquor store, tucked away from the main drags, in an almost fully residential area. The few times that I've been here, they always seem to have some clearance sale on specific craft brew, that won't lighten your wallet too much. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but a definite destination when I'm in the area to see what they have on hand that you might not find elsewhere. Having been a long time customer at Bill's Liquor in Atwater Village, when I found out that the owner was opening up another bottle shop in Monrovia, I kept that in the back of my mind if I was in the area and needed some alcohol for whatever reason. Walking in sort of looks like they're still finding ways to fill up space. But what they do have is an amazing selection of craft beer to choose from. Many of which are in the fridge, just were they belong. You have stuff from The Bruery, Lost Abbey, Stone, Firestone Walker, Victory, Great Divide, New Belgium, Russian River... well, you get the idea. If it's within a few hundred miles or distributed in SoCal, they'll probably have it and at a solid price that is comparable to other shops. The customer service here is above and beyond the call. If you show up a couple of times within a given time span, they'll remember you as a regular and the lively discussion about alcohol is always nice. Over all, if I'm in the area, I'll stop by and take a look at what they have in stock, it's usually a routine that ends with me leaving with a bottle to enjoy and toss into the collection. read more

Best place to get your alcohol fasho. I became hooked when I saw that you can make your own 6 pack. That allowed for me to try all different kids of beers! Peter & I used to go to nice liquor stores like this to get craft beers, but this one goes above and beyond. At other stores, we get our beers and enjoy them. This place is only a mile from my house. The convenience is wonderful as well as the people working there. They also offer you deals at check out. Came here after a rough day at work one day to buy a cheap bottle of wine and was told as I was checking out that I could get three bottles (regularly $3.99 a bottle) for $10. While this may not seem like a huge discount to some, it is a big deal to a broke college student. Big fan of the new management. Got to know a lot of them since I'm there regularly. Beer cave is amazing. The best part is the selection of microbrews. Can't find it anywhere else unless you're at a Bevmo or restaurant. They have a special where you pick 6 for around $9. Arrogant Bastard! If you need some essential stuff for a trip, they have your usual chips, ramen, soda, etc... They are currently talking about converting the section (to the right when you enter) into a Middle Eastern joint, but we'll see if that goes through. Bourbon and spirits here are wildly overpriced and the proprietor takes glee in his gouging. His outlook is almost cartoonish in its embodiment of the greedy liquor store owners "just dealing with supply and demand". Honestly they are a relatively helpful shop provided you are not searching for the most difficult to find rare beers. If you are looking for a beer that is actually distributed to liquor stores, House of Spirits will definitely help you seek it out and if not they will try to point you in the right direction. Heads up though, prices are higher than most stores. It wouldn't discourage me from checking this store out though since they might have what you need. read more

My initial experience with House of Spirits was fine. They were willing to waive the deposit for a keg as I had an empty shell to trade in. I became a repeat customer and came here frequently to fill my kegerator. However, as a result of my last experience I will never be purchasing here again. I called to place an order for a 15.5 gallon keg. I was told that I had to come in to place the order. I informed them this would be somewhat inconvenient and they were very rude rather than simply explaining the reason behind this policy. I then asked how much the price was for a beer that I hadn't ordered before and when it would arrive. They told me that they couldn't give me prices over the phone - even though I had done this a number of times before. Kelly is a great guy and very knowledgeable with the craft beer industry along with fine spirits. They will try to get whatever you ask for if they don't already have it.
