Very disappointed with my purchase at Wing Hop Fung. About three weeks ago, I spent over $700 on "wild ginseng" and over $800 on bird's nest. The ginseng jar was less than half full (see photo), yet it was sold as a premium, discounted item. The quantity was extremely small for the price, and the quality did not match the cost at all--the texture was rough and not pleasant to consume. More recently, when buying tea, the staff had a bad attitude. The store usually advertises 20% off, but I was told there was no discount that day unless I bought more than 3 pounds, and even then it was only 10% off. At $149.99 per pound, that's unreasonable for an individual buyer. Pricing and promotions feel inconsistent and misleading. I recommend being very cautious and comparing elsewhere before buying. read more

If you need a break from the usual mall stores hawking clothing and toys, then come on in and get herbed up! I have many memories as a kid wandering around the location over in Chinatown, and the fact that it no longer exists still baffles me. While there is more competition these days from other smaller emporiums and supermarkets, it is still worth coming in for the ease of shopping for Chinese herbs, teas, snacks, tableware, and kitchen appliances. Background music selection mixes between English and Chinese songs, much like how the ladies speak Cantonese, Mandarin, and English well and provide a wealth of knowledge in figuring what herbs you'll need depending on the soup. I had in mind to make a soup for hot summer heat, which included northern/southern almonds, dried figs, lotus seeds, honey dates, huai shan, and luo han guo. Everything was there conveniently pre-packaged or sold by weight. Comparing the prices with the few over in 99 Ranch, I noticed the prices here are cheaper and more plentiful. read more

This is my go to place for over-the-counter Chinese medicine. This place is usually not busy so I could look at different bottles of medicine and take my time. Other than medicine, you could find different Chinese teas, herbal soup packages and food items here. I just like browsing here as the store is really big and the staff don't bug you. Parking is not a problem as it is inside the mall and you could easily park very close to this store. I find the price okay compared to Tak Shing Hong. They have similar pricing. read more

Wing Hop Fung means Forever, Together, Prosper. I like that. I came here for an event at The W Bar, which is located inside. I browsed around beforehand to check it out. They carry a variety of herbs & fine loose teas and even have a tea bar. You'll also find snacks and tea related accessories. The store has an impressive collection of high-end wines & spirits and a wide selection of reasonably priced options as well. I bought a bottle of champagne and the lady at the register was very nice. If I need a nice high-end bottle, I'll come here. read more

As you're walking in you see so many beautiful items that catch your attention. I noticed a variety of snacks I picked ginger candy and my Son showed me the teas section. My goodness the aroma and endless tea flavors I was in heaven. I had no idea we could sample until my Son asked. I tried the Apple Verbena Fruit Tea and was in heaven the flavor is so delicious is makes you want to close your eyes and enjoy. Our sample was hot tea however the very kind and helpful ladies in the tea section also told us we can enjoy it as iced tea. I purchased half a pound and also saw many beautiful tea sets. You mean to say that I can buy ginseng, top quality teas AND vintage wines all in the same space that sounds like a chicken joint? GTFOH! It's true though. Located inside the Westfield Mall in Arcadia is this wonderful shop, all manner of Chinese medicinal products can be obtained here, such as dried mushrooms and spices. Tea is an entire section in of itself, as well as teapots, stoneware, and related accessories. Impressive to say the least! I wonder what a bag of dried roses would look like to cost $99 a pound? Liquid ginseng is a longtime favorite so finding it at almost half the cost as a place closer to home makes trips here worthwhile, and then I saw the wine cellar.... Wow! Vintage Bordeaux? Five figure prices for the legendary 1982 Rothschilds Lafitte? I appreciated the attention to detail in the climate controlled enclosure built for display and proper storage (e.g. 59° and 50% humidity). The regular wine section of current releases is modest but well curated. The prices are also fairly competitive with spot sales so bargains can definitely be found. There's also a large wine bar but due to country regulations it is not open for business presently. I wish... A word of warning, they close at 6pm on Saturdays and twice now we've struck out, our fault, going a little too late. read more

Very interesting shop! We had no idea what was even in here till we walked in. I honestly thought it was some kind of wing restaurant but it's more like a market for ginseng. You walk in and immediately get a huge whiff of all of the different ginseng! They have all types of herbs and ginger in barrels for you to scoop up and buy by the pound. It's very interesting and you rarely find places like this out here. The place is HUGE and they even have different tea sets and kitchenware towards the back of the store. On the right side, where we actually ended up, is a whole section of different whiskey. They have it setup nicely but the only downside is the price. They are definitely way overpriced but had some pretty neat bottles. Definitely come here and check it out if you're into tea and herbs and stuff! We used to be able to pick mushrooms on our own, but Winghopfung had changed to packaged mushrooms only. The cost goes up and the mushrooms quality goes down( the dried mushrooms don't plump up even after rehydrating) ... so sad!! read more

Walking around Westfield Santa Anita Mall, we came across Wing Hop Fung. It's an Asian specialty store that offers a variety of tea, herbs, dried goods, supplements, home supplies, snacks, tea sets, wine, etc. This place is quite large and there is so much to see in here. If you're looking for gifts, this is a great place to visit. Employees are very friendly and helpful. I appreciate that they don't hover over you, yet are close enough incase you have any questions. Upscale Asian grocery store with air conditioning and organized aisles... And... A Clean restroom! We were in Westfield Santa Anita in Arcadia (Los Angeles) when I thought that I we should take a look around. I had come here in the past with Shal (from Spokane, Washington). She knew what this store was all about. I had never heard of Wing Hop Fung. As soon as I walked in, the distinctive herbal fragrance greeted me. There are dried fruits, mushrooms, herbs, and all kinds of ingredients! Wow! I've seen some of these products in Honolulu Chinatown and the displays at Wing Hop Fung cannot be beat! Everything is on shelves/bins and categorized. There's even a section in the back with appliances and another section on the right side for wine. The herb department is on the left and next to it, the expensive ingredients are in glass display cases. Ceramics and teapots are in the middle of the store. If you need soup or jai supplies, this is a convenient place to shop! Get some ginger candy and preserved fruits here, too! read more

I FOUND YOU!!! So this is where you went after you left Chinatown! I was thinking they left because rent is getting higher but I can't imagine rent here to be much lower. Weird little cookies with sesame seeds and seaweed on 'em. Dried deer hooves with the ankle meat still attached and dried to a crisp. You heard me... lol. Instead of helping me close the sale, the clerk shushed me along. This was after one of your sales clerks was good enough to say the cashier would let me open the box to make sure the lid would seal correctly. I always thought this place's Chinatown location was a restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked inside! I purchased 1/4lb of their osmanthus oolong loose leaf tea ($80/lb). I brewed it as soon as I got home. So delightful! I would probably get more tea leaves from here from now on (I used to order from a Taiwanese website & it used to take two weeks to get them!) highly recommended. read more

Wing Hop Fung is one of the coolest stores out there. If you've never been, I'd definitely recommend checking it out. This shop has some ultra-high end herbs, teas, and spirits that you will be hard pressed to find elsewhere. Looking for a rare bottle or food delicacy? Wing Hop Fung may just be your best bet. This location is in the Santa Anita (Arcadia) Westfield Mall in the newer outside area. I believe they have two locations in the greater Los Angeles area, with the other one being in Monterey Park. This one is probably a little bit nicer, but they both have an excellent selection of items in their shop. What I like so much about this location is their bar. With three beers on tap, a great wine menu, and no corkage on any bottle bought from their store, this is the perfect place to relax at while your friends or family go shopping. Beers are a bit pricey for a market ($8 for an IPA, $7 for Stella), but it's better than nothing. They have Thirsty Thursdays, as well, which sound like a great time. Will I be back? Almost inevitably. The service here is top notch, and the drinks do not disappoint. Ivan and the other lady were awesome bartenders. I'm not a huge shopper, so the bar is an awesome place for people like me to hang out at. This place was a revelation to me - because it had nothing to do with the "Old" San Gabriel Valley that I was raised in, in the 1970s. This entire section of the Westfield Mall just had its grand opening - and before that, it was a construction site. Now there are more than half a dozen new eateries - and a number of new stores - and ALL of them are Chinese. Of these new businesses in the mall, Wing Hop Fung is by far the biggest new store - offering everything from Asian kitchenware & Chinese knock-offs of Dutch Ovens, to intricate tea sets & dried medicinal teas at $299.00 LB or more - to dried sea cucumber, fish-maw, & delicate white Bird's Nests (for soup & other things) for $188.00 an OZ - (Hey! - I thought that selling Bird's Nests in America was illegal - oh well - they make great soup - f..k those stupid birds - I guess). The grumpy Asian Security Guard at Wing Hop Fung followed me everywhere in this place (much to my girlfriend's consternation), maybe because I was fat, or white, or odd - or maybe he thought that I was an FDA agent looking for the store's secret sharks' fin stash (which I am sure someone at this place the can set up for the store's "special" customers). But all I was really doing was looking for a little local adventure and an insight into this new Asian culture that seems to be establishing quite a presence very near my old home town. I felt like the American Indians peering from the trees at the interesting New white-people who were building their forgien looking settlement at Plymouth. What mattered most to me was that I saw the layout, of this store, which I did. I also got my free ginseng tea - and my free samples of other teas - and I caught the amazing buzz that is my hometown mall turning into a super-China commerce center. I actually love it. I really felt like I was traveling to another country, right around the corner. What a chance this place offers - for young white Americans - who would otherwise be bowling league, muscle-car driving, milquetoasts - but now can learn about Chinese culture in a deep way - so that later - when China is the new America in the world - these white kids actually understand the culture - and can deal with it as an extension of their own - much better than the Native Americans did with the white-folk at Plymouth. I love Chinese culture - and food - and thought - and I am happy to ponder paying a thousand dollars a pound for dried seafood guts, just because China says they're worth it. Because if I don't accept this trend in my old hometown - then I am burying my head in the sand - and I will be lost to the future, instead of being ahead of the game. So, if YOU want to learn what China says is worth $1000 an oz., just for shits & giggles - then come here - to this store - and see what the future of America is all about. This review is based totally on their booze selection. It's excellent. Wing Hop carries some of the more exclusive California wineries from the Paso and Sonoma area. I was surprised when i saw that they carry Epoch and Booker wines. I was even more surprised that they price them cheaper then the actual winery. Wing Hop also has a walk in wine room, but I stay out there. They have bottles going for more then model 3 Tesla's! They also carry a ton of high end whiskey. You know the type of whiskey that is protected by a glass window. If you're are looking for wine in the upper echelon and at a fair price then I'd definitely come here. This review is mainly for the tea lady. Most of our time was spent by the tea area. We walked around a bit to look at everything else. This store has a lot of Chinese herbs, dried stuffs and Asian medicine. They also keep a very well stocked wine cellar and liquor area along with the greatest selection of loose leaf teas I've seen. The tea lady I had was super helpful too. She noticed I was walking around and looking at the different teas with my dad. She offered to help us find the right tea and we had nothing to lose so we followed her around smelling the different aromas and tasting various teas. She was very patient with us throughout the whole "experience" and had us try several teas without being too pushy towards any particular one. We ended up getting .5 lbs of tea ( which is A LOT ) it's about a tin and a half of tea if you're used to buying tin cans of tea. Loose leaf is the way to go :). read more

The biggest herbs, teas store I had see in The United States. The size of these type of the stores is hard to find in Asia too. They have a huge choice of high-end teas, liqueurs, oriental herbs and ginseng. together with a big selection of tea pots, dinning ware sets etc. A lot of items I have never see before! Price from just a few bucks to thousands of dollars! The store is very clean and organized. The sales persons will help when you needed them, or they will just standby not very far away from you! As an ABC, I find it a little strange for me to actually like coming into a place like this. Wing Hop Fung sells a large variety of different items, from kitchenware and tea sets, to alcohol and tea. However, I think it is most known for its Chinese herbs and ginseng. Asian people love to gives boxes of ginseng and other Eastern-themed health-boosters as gifts. You can find them here for a pretty good price. That and the giant buckets of loose leaf teas is what brings me here usually. This particular location at the mall is conveniently located outside, right next to the new food area with EMC, etc. The location also has a drink bar for really good tea and coffee drinks! Overall, a good place to get your Asian goodies, and a much cleaner environment than TakSingHong. You can enter straight into the store from the stairs on the Baldwin side parking lot. read more

The selection of teas and medicinal ointments and treatments are vast! This place is a goldmine for eastern medicine and Chinese delicacies. I could spend hours here, but I don't think I'd want to. There are eyes on you 24/7. One of the service attendants asked if we needed anything, and after we responded with a "no", he still hung around behind us while we looked at the assortment of teas. Very strange. This was unlike my experience in Chinatown, where the store owners are always happy to help and give you advise on medicines. The staff here is very unwelcoming to tell you the truth. We stood in front of the Japanese whisky selection for 30 minutes deciding in a good bottle that will fit my husbands taste. We was walking around the store because it was the first time we've been into this store. I was excited to check out things, when I turned around, this old creepy man was standing behind staring at me. After awhile I realized they had 3 people literally following us step by step, staring at us at all time. At the end when we walked out, their security demanded us to give him our shopping bags from Nordstrom to check ( we were carrying a lot of shopping bags) he was even trying to open our shoes box, which is absolutely ridiculous, what on earth I can put in the shoes box, when they literally eyeing on us the whole time. We do not know if they were based on our appearance (old tshirt, sport shorts and flipflop) or they being racist because my bf is the only Hispanic, I saw several white people and they didn't get the treatment like we did.
