solid vegan options! we ordered the tofu bao buns (sans special sauce), vegan potstickers, vegan ramen, fancy vegetable roll, and avocado roll. the sushi was good quality. the avocado roll was maki (nori on the outside) which is perfect to keep the roll all together as our 10 month old ate. the fancy vegetable roll was crunchy and the pickled veg was prominent. the bao buns are 1 per order so we ordered 2. the buns were large and fluffy and the tofu was cooked well and flavored. we ordered without one of the sauces which i believe is mayo based. we just wrote that in our online order notes to make the item vegan. the tofu in the vegan ramen was very good too and the broth was flavorful and salty. the vegan potstickers were good - nothing special. those came 4 in an order. online ordering was easy and the vegan items came clearly labeled in the bag. our order was ready fairly quickly too.

Everything went well. The food is phenomenal and the staff is well versed on Everything that they make and sell.

We had a lovely meal here! My husband, baby, and I stopped in for a bit of an early dinner so we were able to be seated immediately. We were in the mood for some good ramen, and that's exactly what we got. We started with some steamed dumplings that were pretty solid. For our entree we split the tonkotsu ramen and a few rolls. We really liked all of these and I can't wait to try more things on the menu. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and had great recommendations. The atmosphere was moody in a fun way. Definitely check them out!

Food was horrible, the presentation of the food looks good but once you put it in your mouth all that salt takes over. Table felt kind of sticky. The people were nice but overall IMA IS THE BEST!! I would never go back here. I took the food to go to be nice but threw it directly in the garbage because that's where it belongs!!

Made no reservations on a Sunday night. Requested for a booth table. Was seated after 5 minutes of waiting. The servers were very courteous and always smiling, looked nice in their all black shirt, pants and apron. Modern interior ... elements of wood, vinyl red upholstery, and lots of japanese lanterns hanging by the sushi bar and kitchen area. Lots of elbow room and proportional height of the dining table. And in each table, they would place on top of each sushi plate a thick paper napkin, and chopstick with their logo printed on the front. Very hot water is served in a ceramic sake cup. For a group of three, we ordered the highly recommended Tonkotso Ramen $18, Stir fry noodles $16, and Chicken Katsu Curry Bowl $17. There was a strange smell of the bowl used to served the stir fry noodles and it tasted bland .. but for Ramen noodles, I very much enjoyed enjoyed eating the thin noodles garnished with chashiu, soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, nori and corn - the only downside is the broth was easily absorb by the noodles so you might need to order extra broth for additional $5. The breaded chicken breast is good in proportion enough to feed three and the curry sauce was ok ... maybe a few pieces of carrot would have been great. I do commend how they prepared the egg and created a very nice plating of it on top of the rice. At first, we hesitated to dine in because of the reviews like slow service but actually it seems that the food and drinks were served more or less 10-15 minutes. Just about right when you want your food to be prepared by them the right way. Free parking. Dining area is warm so don't bother wearing a thick jacket inside.

House of Umami is a great option for Sushi, Ramen, and coordinated drinks in Canton, MI. I recently stopped by while catching up with a friend, and we both ended up getting dinner and a drink -- both cocktails were delightful (way too tempting to get more than one!), and we both left happy with the food as well. The sushi menu is robust and has lots of familiar favorites - the servers were also really helpful in pointing out some of their go-tos. I'd recommend asking them for some options based on what you usually gravitate toward! The atmostphere inside the restaurant is casual, but you can tell it's poppin' because there seems to be quite the crowd at peak times. The only (minor) complain I have is that the location right on (very busy) Ford road makes getting out of the parking lot a challenge at peak times (especially if you need to head eastbound on Ford road), but this isn't a restaurant problem so much as a Canton issue! Overall, I'd recommend giving House of Umami a shot!

Have came here a few times since my first time and the flavors are so well balanced in the ramen I have ordered. Tonight I ordered the tonkotsu ramen with added tufu & naruto and it was so tasty and came out nice and hot. It just needed alittle more broth since I added more ingredients. My hubby ordered the chicken shirt ramen and he enjoyed it as well. We grabbbed the adorable sweet heart rolls that were not disappointing at all and oh so cute just perfect for Valentines Days . The soup dumplings were yummy as well but we didn't like the dipping sauce that came with it and instead ate them as they were because they didn't need anything added. Now our server was very nice and when he came to our table immediately suggested items to us to have for the night. He was very attentive and kept out table clean. I loved that. So if you head out to House of Umami ask for Jeremy.......

This place is a hidden gem. I had drove past it multiple times and finally got to try it. Sorry in advance did not get all the pictures. Must try boa buns, dumplings, ramen bowl, sushi, mochi ice cream. Ramen variety is insane. Service is top tier. Great place to grab food with friends/ family/ date Night.

Vibrant and modern interior. Very professional and attentive staff. She explained about how their ramen is made which was very helpful. I was excited that they make the broth from scratch like ramen shop in Japan does. We had a tonkotsu ramen. The soup was very rich and flavorful. I liked the all of the toppings. Boiled Eggs are cooked perfectly. Definitely the best ramen shop I've ever been in Michigan. This would be my go to restaurant for ramen from now on. I can't wait to try other ramens next time.

Tonkotsu ramen. Needed to request more broth.

We were recovering from a cold and just arrived in Michigan, craving some ramen. For context, we have ramen probably every 1-2 weeks back in NYC. I had the tonkotsu and my husband had the miso. Overall, very satisfying. The chashu was clearly good quality meat. I normally don't care for the chashu, but finished it here. We both did have to add hot sauce to our ramen. My husband doesn't normally prefer a spicy broth, but thought the miso was bland. My tonkotsu broth was salty and creamy - exactly what I needed. Oddly, my ramen didn't come with much broth so I did have to ask for more which they brought out without an issue. Service was polite/friendly but a little slow as they were clearly busy.

It's a solid casual place to eat if you're in the area. The food is solid but nothing memorable. Service can be kinda slow if they're busy.

Our server Adie took great care of us, and the vibe and decor was so cool inside ! Started out with a bao bun and beef wonton tacos 10/10 must try. Got chicken curry katsu and was in heaven, so savory and comforting. A sapporo to wash it down hit the spot :)

The place is very open and organized. The noise level was quiet and they were full and had great music playing in the background. I would like whoever's playlist they had on. The staff is always very friendly and everyone you pass greets you. This time we had an exceptional server Addy. She was very attentive made sure our water glasses stayed topped off, if we needed anything, asked how the food was. Explained how to best enjoy eating the soup dumplings without getting a burnt mouth and to use the sauce. She checked on all of our dishes if we liked them. We ordered the crispy Rangoon, loaded fries, soup dumplings, shrimp tempura and the curry ramen. The loaded fries were great, the fries stayed crispy outside soft inside the sauces were so good. I especially like the spicy mayo. The soup dumplings were okay. The soup didn't have much to it. I have had better and worse elsewhere. The crab Rangoon was light and had a lot of crab more than the creamy sauce in it which I really liked. The curry ramen was spicy but not of the top just enough for that kick and still very able to taste the food, the veggies were cooked well that everything still had a bite to it so you know everything was fresh and not mushy.

After graduating my girlfriend [now wife] and I would make it a point to try and eat at Matsu-Chan when in the area, even after our first kiddo, and eventually our second. Last year before one of our trips to the area my wife let me know that they were under new management and when I looked at the new menu, I was saddened that all of my favorite items were no longer present, and it seemed that my beloved little slice of Japan was now "just" a ramen shop. While my wife loves and can handle ramen and the broth, I would typically get the different rice bowls, or other entrees because while I love me some good ramen it doesn't work out well for me with the hour or so trip to the area. We'd get some rolls, takoyaki, and other appetizers to share around the table before digging into our main entrees. With the increased prices, and fewer options, I will end up going to any of the multitude of places [Aji-ten is usually our #2] to get my kick. I'll miss the little shop and the times I've had, like perusing the manga while waiting for a table. I wish the old owners the best, and the new management as well, especially if it was a familial transfer, but Matsu-Chan is not for me anymore. My wife will eventually get up there and let me know how it is, but for now, I'm just happy that a little bento shop opened near my workplace run by two first gen transplants, so I can at least get my fix without the drive.

Others following us added their names to the waitlist. The restaurant is small with just a handful of tables. One chef, it appears, prepared all the meals. I barely glanced at the menu; I already knew I was having the ramen. The only question was which one. My friend selected the eel bowl while I had the miso pork soup. The latter was served with sliced pork, bamboo shoots, fish cake, and seaweed. The broth was full of flavor; I enjoyed every slurp. I appreciated that the meal was sizeable and inexpensive - I was able to stretch it to two meals. We did not linger given the number of people waiting.

The Beef Bulgogi bowl looked tasty, so I went inside, took a seat and gave the waitress my order. My order was served up QUICK and HOT. So I dug in to the beef first. It lacked seasoning, flavor and texture. BLAND! Then I looked the spring roll and the dumpling. These were not handmade and seemed to be similar to what I have purchased at COSTCO. Just CABBAGE inside both of them.
