WONDERFUL little hole in the wall sushi place my partner and I aren't huge on sushi since we don't like raw fish, and we absolutely ADORED the variety here! People I've taken here who DO love traditional sushi really enjoyed it too. The service is so kind as well, the waitress is caring, and even gave us a miso soup for a slight wait. The restaurant is under new management now. The service is good and friendly but portions of sushi are very big and slightly unrefined. Meaning, more rice for a bigger roll and maaaaaybe a step down in quality of fish. The prices are the same so our first time back with the new crew we ordered our normal stuff and ended up taking almost one order home. So I'd recommend ordering less then you think, then if you need more- add it on after. We'll go back again and give it a try but it's hard to get the original O'sushi out of our minds. The new owners have made this the best sushi restaurant in Michigan. The quality of the sushi and shashimi is amazing. You won't have better anywhere. The shumai is top notch. The bento box lunches are terrific and a great deal. The udon and ramen noodle, the tempura, and chicken and pork katsu dishes are also favorites. You can't go wrong here, its all delicious and very reasonably priced. The service is also great, friendly, attentive, and quick. GREAT experience here. Stopped in for a lunch date and we were extremely happy with the food, service, environment, and staff. The food presentation was gorgeous, and delicious. This is a family owned restaurant, and the the staff clearly takes pride in the care and quality of their restaurant. We were able to watch our food be made and it was beautifully done for all the guests at the restaurant. This place was possibly my introduction to sushi in 2003 or so. I moved away and loved the Dearborn location for 13 years. I came back in 2017- their sushi and bulgogi are pretty good. But I ordered delivery tonight and they forgot 2 of my 8 items - my shumai AND my tempura udon were both missing. The Chicago roll was very tasty, and the bulgogi was generous and well flavored. But what kind of restaurant misses $30 worth of items out of an $80 order? I reported the missing items via DoorDash and got a $15 credit. Despite this being a restaurant I've been eating at for 17 years, I will not eat there again. The lady on the phone was curt/rude and told me I could drive into her restaurant to get a refund or to receive the missing items (defeating the purpose of ordering delivery in the first place). Good sushi, poor ownership, bad management. Find another place in the Canton area to get your sushi. read more

Having grown up in the Plymouth-Canton area, O'Sushi has been around since Johnson's Family Dining & Bargains-4-U existed and that goes waaaay back my friends! Very good service from the get go! The rolls we sampled were Beverly Hills, Pineapple, Spider and Vegas. The winners were Beverly Hills and Spider. Remember to ask for separate plates. I hate to give such a low review but it felt like such a waste to come here. Upon entering you will notice that the temperature of the restaurant is a little warm since they use mostly fans and a little air conditioning. The only place I could feel the air conditioner was in the restroom. I was skeptical but just proceeded to order. I ordered the donkatsu and my husband had the tempura donburi. Usually donkatsu is very safe to order since they always taste reasonable but not this one. The pork was so thin and tough and the tempura coating on the pork separated from every single piece, bottom and top. The only positive I could say was that the donkatsu coating was very crispy. My husband's tempura had a thick batter and the rice was drenched with the sauce. You could literally see about 1/4 cup worth of sauce on the bottom of the bowl. I would've taken a picture of the donkatsu falling apart or the drenched rice but the waitress was watching so I didn't want to offend anyone. The meal was roughly $30 excluding the cost of tip but was not worth the price. Perhaps the sushi is better but I don't know. I just wouldn't recommend this place at least for the entree. read more

I would completely give this place 5 stars, but the use of masks by the people who make the sushi has been inconsistent. At pickup for today's carryout order, the hostess/cashier was wearing a mask, but the people who actually make the food behind the counter were not. Just yesterday my family member was there, and she said everyone was wearing masks. It's an easy fix and the risk of transmission via food is low, so take that for what it's worth and do what's right for you. Otherwise, the sushi and sashimi themselves are divine. My favorites are the spider roll (can never go wrong with crunchy crab in my opinion) and the saba (sashimi or nigiri). When I'm in the mood for something with both crunch and a creamy sauce on top, the SALMON ON THE BEACH is my go to. My friend's favorite is Queen of the Valley. If you are a mackerel fan (fishy), and are in the mood to try something legit that is only offered by a few restaurants, try the SABA SHIOYAKI. All it is, is just fish and rice, but the fish is prepared in such a way (roasted/pan fried?) that my Asian friends believe they are back home. SO delicious, and only otherwise offered by Aji Ten in Canton. As of 2020, neither Kabuki Sushi, Izakaya Sanpei, nor Aki Sushi and Thai offers it. I will be very happy to return once I feel more comfortable COVID-wise, given the mask situation. read more

This has been my family's favorite sushi place away from the coast for over ten years. I would drive over an hour to get here when I was in college because it was so good. Unfortunately, it's taken a tumble. My significant other and I went here for my birthday last week expecting to spend a lot on a great meal. Instead, we were seated behind a refrigerator when the restaurant was mostly empty, found that all the dishes were dirty, service was curt, and the sushi itself now had almost no fish or avocado in it--every roll was mostly cucumber (see the picture of what we didn't eat for reference). I ordered salmon and yellowtail sashimi and unagi nigiri (they don't call it sashimi or nigiri on their menu, though, so it can be confusing to order what you want). The salmon was good, but I noticed that I could buy a whole meal of the same quality salmon sashimi from Tsai Grocery in Ann Arbor for the price of two small pieces of salmon sashimi here. My significant other ordered a spider roll, and I also ordered a dragon queen roll--at least, I thought I did. It turned out that I marked the wrong queen on the order sheet, though I verbally confirmed our order as dragon queen before our waitress left. We still paid for the roll and ordered the correct one (regretted that later, though) because it was also our error for marking it wrong, but my guy almost got sick eating the mystery queen roll (I told him he didn't have to force himself). Normally we would have ordered a lot more sashimi and nigiri, especially on a birthday; but after all this, we just wanted to get out of there and get to someplace better because I hadn't eaten much aside from the sashimi (my SO was a champ and ate almost two rolls, though I kind of wish he hadn't--he wasn't doing well the rest of the night). We still tipped at least 18% (my minimum) because I've had family who had to rely on server jobs and believe that there are few excuses not to tip, but didn't give my usual 20%. I let my family know about our experience. Everyone was shocked and disappointed. We've decided to find somewhere else to be our main sushi place from now on. read more

We stuck our head inside and spoke to a woman across a blockade of dining tables that we were interested in dining in but just realized that they were requesting reservations. There were NO diners in the restaurant. Asked if we could dine in. "No" was the answer. Asked if they were taking reservations for today "yes" was the answer. But we can't sit down now? "No". She did not want us there. Seemed annoyed we wanted to patronize the establishment. We just left and went to a different place in town. Very disappointed. May not ever come back. read more

The house salad dressing was not my favorite but that is just because I prefer the sweeter ginger carrot dressing that I have gotten from other Japanese restaurants. However, the miso soup was quite delicious. My husband and I got a mad tuna roll and a crunch roll. Neither of them were spectacular; about the same as you would get at a grocery store that rolls fresh sushi. I'm not knocking grocery store sushi because they're good when you're in a rush, however when I am in a sit down restaurant and paying a higher price I expect better quality food. The service was very nice which is always a good thing, but ultimately, I am here for the food so unfortunately we will not return. read more

Put me with the crowd that joked about this place for years. Irish sushi? WTF? Huh? I really love this place and I am so glad that Liz R. introduced me to it! The sushi is so delicious and fresh and the people here are great. I am fond of Irene now in particular, who is a charming and attentive waitress with fabulous suggestions. My fave roll of our visit was the Fire Ball roll. Perfect shrimp tempura, tuna, eel and avocado inside, with shredded crab stick and julienned cucumber on top, smothered in eel, spicy and red chili sauce. Liz is not kidding when she describes them as jaw-unhinging pieces, go with a non judgemental friend or be prepared to suffer some embarrassment at some point when you fail to stuff the ginormousness into your mouth in one big bite. Any mistakes in your gobbling technique are well worth the deliciousness! The snow corn roll was 4 pieces and was soft with a crispy outside. It has a creamy texture that I really enjoyed. Liz claimed it was missing a sauce but honestly I loved every bite at any rate. Do I know what all was in it? Heck no. Do I care? Not a bit. The scallop roll was a green onion studded delight. The scallop itself was tender and sweet, just amazement. I do not know why I have not delved into the world of hotategai before. I am a convert. Our last roll was the Beverly Hills Roll I think, the electric lemonade I was swigging made me confused I must confess. It had great fish on it, especially the perfectly fileted eel. I was impressed by the uber freshness but the sauces were a bit blah-ish for us. With a bit of zip I would have been all over it. It was still very good indeed but it was not wow. Our freebie roll was a similar mystery. Again, not too worried. It was tasty and hello, free. It was eaten as gleefully as the rest. The drinks were strong and happy, the sushi was 20% off, we got a freebie roll and nice cantaloupe and they cheerfully kept us in hot green tea for hours as we gabbed. Really small place it use to be much bigger but it seems they sold off half the restaurant and put a wall up. I came here before few years ago and now I remember why. Hopefully I remember this time so I don't go back. The sushi is just alright, not a fan of the sushi taste and flavor they have. The tempura rolls are soggy as if they've been just sitter under the glass for awhile. The sushi is really over priced here for the same rolls they're $2-3 more than any other place around here. Worse part is, there ginger salad isn't made by ginger dressing. The dressing is some Italian dressing. I had to ask the waitress because it didn't taste right at all, yet they describe on the menu "ginger salad". Recommend going to Kabuki which is about 1/2 mile down the road, and so much better. Never going to OSushi again that's for sure! Also the waitress was definitely different. She would keep ease dropping on our conversation and interrupting us, not that we were talking about anything private but still. She did it 4-5 times... Who does that? read more

My friend at work wanted to go get some sushi and I wasn't really up for it... he then said, we need to go to a new place so you can write about it on yelp.... so some how, we ended up here. Its in a small strip mall and from outside, one would think twice about stopping by to eat... but I have to tell you, once you bypass the building, inside the restaurant, its nice. We were greeted by the two sushi chefs and the host/wait staff. They brought our drinks and we reviewed the menu for about five minutes. I wasn't sure what I wanted, their special sounded good, but being that it was my first time, I played it safe. I ordered Tempura Udon, Salad and Miso soup. The Miso soup was little weak compared to other places I've been too. It seems they use very light brown miso, whereas other places will use dark/light mixed. The miso taste on the soup needed some work. The salad was okay... I was not a fan of the dressing they used. It was more of an Italian dressing then Japanese dressing. Now, I'll tell you up front, I'm Ajishin Udon fan, so I have high expectation when it comes to Udon from anywhere (outside of Japan). I had some doubts about the soup base for the udon, but that doubt went away after I tried it. The soup base (which is very important) was very delightful and good. I would order Tempura Udon any day. My friend ordered some rolls - spicy tuna and the other was their special, which had crab meat, shrimp tempura, etc. I liked their special roll, it was really good. Service was also good... the two ladies took care of us very well, even as more customers started to show up. Next time I go, I'll try some of their rolls. This is our favorite sushi place, bar none. We'll cheat on them occasionally, but we always return. We've gone often enough, and tipped well enough, that we're recognized by the waitstaff and most of the sushi chefs. We're still tickled whenever the sushi chef sends a little something special to our table (and we hope we don't ever get so jaded that we expect it). We go for the sushi, but we've tried the Shrimp and/or Veggie Tempura - light batter, not greasy, good portion - and I crave the Tempura Soba soup (with tempura on the side to keep it crispy), even in hot weather. OK, now for the main event. The sushi. One of our favorite waitresses, Irene, recommended the Fire Ball roll waaaayy back during one of our first visits, and we are hooked. It has shrimp tempura, tuna, eel and avocado inside (heck, there might be other things in there too, delicious things), with shredded crab stick and julienned cucumber on top, smothered in eel, spicy and red chili sauce. This is the best roll I have ever had. Eight huge, jaw-unhingeing pieces for about $13. It is a beast. More recently we've discovered the Salmon Pizza, which is pretty much a California Roll (oh the horror) covered in spicy-sauce coated salmon, broiled in the little toaster oven behind the sushi counter then sprinkled with multi-colored fish roe and green onions. Also around $13. So we usually chose one or the other. And fill in with a couple of the following: Mad Tuna roll (half spicy tuna/half krab salad, sprinkled with eel sauce and crunchy bits), Snow Corn roll (not sure what's in this one, but it has a sweet sauce over it to counteract all our usual heat), Spicy Tuna Avocado roll, Spicy Scallop roll. Another fun option is the New O'Sushi roll, which is wrapped in cucumber instead of rice - recommended for something deliciously different. This is the first sushi place I've been to that has a color picture book of their rolls - I'm a visual person, so this makes it a lot easier to choose. I don't know how we found the place - previous reviewers are correct, the outside is scary - but I highly recommend it! read more

Wew, I've been meaning to review this place for awhile! This was one of the first sushi places I tried in Canton, and one my first dates with my now husband Dee! And having been to the other sushi establishments in Canton, and even the O'Sushi in Dearborn, this one takes the (fish)cake! The menu is huge and there is so much to choose from. You could come here for months trying something new each time. Anything to strike your fancy from sushi rolls, to udon, to bibimbap! During the summer, we usually opt for sushi, though their bibimbap is, by far, one of the bests I've ever had. The toppings are usually simple (bean sprouts, spinach, carrot, cucumber, topped with a sunnyside up egg for mixing. Basically, deconstructed fried rice! The best part though is the stone bowl - they really know how to get that crispy rice perfect, and their bibim sauce is dynamite! Definitely a tasty, cozy winter dish. Their tanuki udon is also wonderful, their flavorful dashi really makes it. Their hwedubop (Chirashi-don) also deserves mention, as one of the best preparations of this dish I've had. Chopped sashimi and veggies delicately placed atop lettuce with a side of rice and their tasty bibim sauce for mixing. (I always add avocado.) It's beautiful, filling and a relatively healthy delicious dish. In terms of the sushi, I could spend all day on the great rolls I've had. The nice part is their menu "portfolio" has elaborate and descriptive pics of everything to suit your craving. Among my current favorites are: Michigan Roll - Salmon, krab, cuke and avocado topped with salmon, a slice of lemon and a dot of mayo. Super refreshing and the salmon is always great - not fishy at all. Salmon on the Beach - Shrimp tempura, avocado and cream cheese topped with salmon, ikura, and a creamy mayo sauce. Crunchy, creamy and delicious. Salmon Pizza (Sweet) - This is Dee's favorite roll, krab salad and avocado, topped with salmon, tobiko and baked with your choice of a sweet or spicy sauce. We've also enjoyed the Fireball roll (shrimp and krab topped with more shrimp and krab with spicy sauces) as well as the Spider Roll, Spicy Crab Crunch Roll, Canton Roll and the no-rice guilty pleasure fried Snow Corn and no-carb cucumber wrapped New O'sushi Roll. Honestly, I also really love their Avocado Cucumber Roll, and order it everytime. Perhaps it's the freshness of the avocado, or julianned cucumber sticks, or nicely seasoned sushi rice - I don't know, but it's a simple pleasure for sure. Their long lost of apps are worth trying, like their crispy fried softshell crab, and spicy crab salad - I'm also in love with their cucumber salad; a simple mix of crunchy cukes, krab, sesame seed and rice vinegar. It's crunchy, delicious and refreshing; I order it every time. They also have onigiri - rice balls filled with cooked salmon! These make for a nice filling lunch. Their miso soup is a bit on the fishier side, but tasty. Their ginger salad has a tart ginger vinaigrette, different from the sweet carrot based version most places have. I prefer O'sushi's though! Their sashimi is good too, particularly the raw scallops and ama ebi (raw shrimp with fried head). The only irk for me is that they pre-slice their fish sashimi. I understand the need for efficiency during peak hours but as soon as it is sliced it begins to oxidize and lose color and texture. They used to have more unusual sashimi on special, but perhaps it wasn't as big of a sell. I do miss their lunch specials too - you used to be able to get an avocado-cuke roll, 1/2 the roll of the day, and 1/2 order tanuki udon for $8 - it was a steal! I wish they'd bring it back! For drinks, there is a full-bar, but we usually stick to sake. My current favorite they introduced me to is the Ozeki nigori, a creamy cold sweet sake with flavors of melon and fruit. It's super refreshing, though a bit pricey at $13 / bottle, you can easily share. The restaurant is small though, and while nicely recently remodeled, it did decrease in size, so there can be a bit of a wait at times. Service is always great and friendly. O'sushi is awesome for carryout too though! Monday is 10% off dine-in sushi, so it's worth a visit then! Not only was my solo date with myself a success, and having been going here for years and knowing the food is great, but tonight I achieved sushi nirvana. The food was exceptionally fantastic. Best in years. But I am always greeted with smiles and kindness. I shared a roll with the table next to me, the waiters shared their dinner with me later, and even though I tried to pace myself, found that 2 hours later I was in heaven with a full belly and a never ending smile on my face. I tipped $30 on a 67 tab, because it was just that amazing. I have never been as excited about a meal as I am tonight. So much so, that this is my first yelp review.
