We recently had a home inspection done by Scott and his team. He was recommended by our realtor and everything went great. Scott sent us an email to confirm our appointment. In that email were easy directions to sign off on the inspection electronically. This was a great time saver so we didn't need to print, sign, and fax the forms. There is also a link in the email that allows you to pay for everything prior to the appointment. The day prior to the inspection we were sent a reminder email. Then the day of we arrived about 1-2 minutes after the appointment time and everyone was already there ready to go. The process was about 3 hours long. After everything was done we reviewed all of the concerns that they saw. The pictures were great to show us what had to be done. The next day we received the inspection for review. I would recommend Scott to any home buyer. read more

"Attention to detail" is the best comment I can make. Scott and Jeff were detail oriented, taking much time to not only look at every aspect of the home we were buying, but to answer our questions in the process, on site, as the inspection took place. When it was complete, they took the time to walk through their findings, answering every question possible. When it was finished, I quickly received a written report that was very detailed, but easy to read and understand. We knew both the primary concerns we needed to deal with, but also long term, helpful hints to make the property better. We have looked at many home inspection reports before, but this was the most comprehensive, best report we've received, hands down. Quick but not through. I can only speak from our experience and it appeared to be that the inspector was working more for the seller than the purchaser. After speaking directly to inspector, he seem agitated that I was questioning him on some of the items, only to find out he ran right back to the other side and told them what I wanted done and what was discussed. This made negotiations difficult. read more

Kelly came out to do an assessment for mold issues at the property I am renting that have been…read moreongoing 10 months. Kelly is not licensed as a mold inspector and has some very odd ways of conducting an assessment. First off, just a visual inspection (when there were positive tests for stachybotrus in a wall cavity and recent air quality tests with continued levels of stachybotrus). My walls are all freshly painted, so what good is a visual inspection? She refused to do any air quality, tape test or swab testing to analyze, even though I showed her photos of black toxic mold on drywall and framing. Apparently she has x-ray vision that's better than actual lab testing lol. Then in the crawlspace which was "remediated" for mold by a non-IICRC firm which VA Law HB 1270 mandates mold remediation after 7/1/24 must be a certified firm, she wants to patch up what this invalid firm did and only recommends partial work? How does that work? Put a bandaid on it, literally. Yes, she actually recommends just patching holes in the barrier, among other things not to IICRC S520 standards. There's a serious standing water issue and she actually thinks it's something that can be dried out... huh? Until the next rainstorm saturates the crawlspace. The crawlspace is not graded properly (pockets where water collects) and water comes through concrete block from neighboring townhouse every rain. Absolutely absurd. Since her specialty is lead and asbestos, she should've recommended someone at Commonwealth with actual mold and experience (and familiar with the new law around remediation standards) perform the assessment (she didn't even know about HB 1270 when I mentioned it). She's got a very combative personality and was clearly hired to rubber stamp this as the owners are upset they spent so much money over 8-9 months trying to fix the issues (they should've hired a certified firm and could've avoided this). Now they want to take shortcuts again and this IH is okay with that, even though every other expert that's come out recommended starting from scratch, full encapsulation and waterproofing so the job is done right. Extremely disappointed especially since the owner Fred called me personally to discuss my concerns but I guess it was just lip service to appease me when he said he would make it right.

Instead they installed a controlled ventilation system and put down a vapor barrier. Their team did a great job and our crawlspace no longer smells musty and the temperature/humidity is very comfortable in there. Their pricing was very fair (cheaper than other estimates we received) and Tim was great about explaining everything and giving us an honest opinion. We've continued to use them for some air quality issues we are having elsewhere in our house and Tim has been extremely generous with his time. I can't recommend them enough.

For six months Joists kept breaking even though they said only a few needed replacing in the beginning. mold keep getting on the wallama in the house . . Time and again they kept spraying for mold . No one could give me a reasonable answer as to why the crawl space encapsulation wasn't working and mold kept growing . About the time we were going to sign the fourth contract to have work done , a family member had to step in for us . I was having headaches that were 24 hours a day . Vertigo so bad I had to stop driving . My husband was becoming confused and could not concentrate . The relative was standing on the crawl space encapsulation membrane because the floors and under flooring had been removed when a sun ray shone on his boot . He and two JES employees got on there needs and followed the beam of light . It lead to the door of the encapsulation .It was inches too short . Moisture was getting in as well as mice . This meant the dehumidifier was working hard to keep up with the moisture that was getting under the house . Mold was everywhere. The joists they were sistering to had mold all on them . We discovered the three contracts we already had were not consistent in pricing . Each contract was higher prices . Our relative had them gut all the work they had been doing out because it was ALL done wrong . They finally did the work correctly. Then I discovered they had dropped the second building permit and never had their work inspectEd through the county . I had to email the county and request one . I would NEVER recommend this company .

Used to be my go to for state inspections and oil changes etc. Brought in a check-engine light,…read morethey charged $150 to read error codes, which I gave ahead of time, and then estimated a $900 MAF sensor diagnostic. A simple google search can prove that this is a huge over estimate. (Subaru later quoted $360 parts and labor). I called and expressed my concern about how the estimate was that high. The justification given was "that's what my system says, I cannot help you". They cleared my code without any mechanical fix and told me I was "ready to go". Check engine light came back on the drive home. These guys don't want to help their customers. They overcharge for labor, and prey on those not knowledgeable about their vehicles. Stay away and take your vehicle to any of the other shops along broad st.

However, using my phone's flashlight, I saw the socket was still there. I bought a new light for $7 and had my car passed at a different shop. My issue isn't with the failure, but with their failure to properly check for the socket and their lack of listening, especially considering they advertise "lights and electrical repair".

Also they wore little booties, so as not to track thru house, came on time, (little early, but ok) and got work done fast. Before they left they turned on dryer to make sure it worked, and it did. I had clothes dryer ductwork cleaned (reasonable), not HVAC air ductwork, which they also do, plus they change out boots under vents in floor if you need that too. So I think I will use them again in the future for those other things. They seemed to know what they were doing, but time will tell.

I hired them to to clean my duct work ( after another company had let construction dust get into my a/c - heat central air intake vent ) They cleaned and videoed every duct pipe thoroughly - taking pictures as they go along - they use a type of tool that cleans the duct work out and at the same time a vacuum suction that cleans out the ducting I had a great experience and recommended them to anyone needing their duct work cleaned .

The HouseMaster inspectors for our new house were great. We had two HM inspectors come out after the county inspection and they found things which we would not have noticed on our own. We had another HM inspector come out for a re-inspection during the walk through, to follow up on items needing to be addressed, during which time they adjusted a toilet's flush mechanism that was supposed to have already been done by the seller. The re-inspector also called up our seller's HVAC guy and then followed up with me to clear up a question about the ductwork. They also offered to come back at no additional charge to take a look at some work to be completed after our closing. All three of the HM inspectors offered terrific customer service. In addition to their thoroughness noted above, they listened to us and answered our questions, and offered practical advice on home maintenance. I'm so glad we had them do our inspections to help inform us about our new home and provide some peace of mind. read more

My realtor recommended Scott and we had a great experience. Scott went over everything in the house, took pictures of everything, and went over everything in detail when he had finished his inspection. What I appreciate about HouseMaster inspectors such as Brian and Scott is that while they do a very thorough job of inspecting, explaining and describing issues and required repairs, they avoid overly broad statements about issues that could cause unnecessary concern or panic in the prospective buyers.
