They told me I needed a new battery at my state inspection. Took my car to the dealership. They told me my battery was fine.

Used to be my go to for state inspections and oil changes etc. Brought in a check-engine light, they charged $150 to read error codes, which I gave ahead of time, and then estimated a $900 MAF sensor diagnostic. A simple google search can prove that this is a huge over estimate. (Subaru later quoted $360 parts and labor). I called and expressed my concern about how the estimate was that high. The justification given was "that's what my system says, I cannot help you". They cleared my code without any mechanical fix and told me I was "ready to go". Check engine light came back on the drive home. These guys don't want to help their customers. They overcharge for labor, and prey on those not knowledgeable about their vehicles. I scheduled a state inspection, but my car failed due to a missing side light. Despite explaining I had the light, they insisted the socket was missing and referred me to a repair shop. However, using my phone's flashlight, I saw the socket was still there. I bought a new light for $7 and had my car passed at a different shop. My issue isn't with the failure, but with their failure to properly check for the socket and their lack of listening, especially considering they advertise "lights and electrical repair". read more

Convenient location and pleasant customer service, but in regards to what really matters - quality of work - it's a hard pass for me. I went in for a routine oil change, and after I smelled a weird odor that wouldn't go away, I went to the dealership to see if there was some leak. They opened the hood and noticed that the cap for the oil had not been put back on after Cutshaw did the oil change, so oil had been spewing onto the engine and heating up every time I drove, thus creating the smell (and wasting quarts of oil in the process). So in summary, a simple oil change turned into a nightmare situation all because they neglected to put the cap back on. NIGHTMARE!! You ever hear about those nightmare auto shops. Well, this is one of them. If you're looking for something simple, like a state inspection this might be a good place to stop but if you need anything else, anything else! I would stay away. I brought my car in for break issues and to check my starter. Breaks were obvious enough but with my starter, they noted my battery was very corrosive (which it was). They offered to clean it/reseal it to help prevent it from leaking but recommended the battery be replaced. It's an older battery so that's a standard recommendation. Their diagnostic tested my battery as working and 100% charging, they also diagnosed my starter to be testing properly. So I opted to not replace the battery and just go with the cleaning/sealing. Less than 24 hours after picking my car up, it didn't start. I called Cutshaw and had my car towed back to their shop. When I spoke with the shop owner about why my car wouldn't start, she was very short and said "well, we told you to replace the battery......and shrugged her shoulders" Even though everything tested in working condition before they performed their work and when I brought this up she would just give me the same answer with an attitude. So I opted to get a new battery from advanced auto parts and switch it out myself. And what do you know, the car still wouldn't start. Went back to the shop owner and told her I replaced the battery but the car still wouldn't start. She stated, "well, it could be defective battery (the new one I just bought). If you bought it from us, we would warranty it and you wouldn't have any problems...." Then she offered to do another diagnostic which I would have to pay for again.......literally trying to SCAM! Feeling backed in a corner, I accepted and left my car with them. Later she texts me and I'll let you read how great her customer service is, being sarcastic obviously (screenshots attached). Long story short, I didn't let them perform any more work and had the car towed to another shop that knows what they're doing. Right away they noticed the positive battery terminal had been badly damaged. Which probably happened when they cleaned my battery and didn't even realize they had done it! Finally found a good auto repair place right before I moved dang it!! This place was super quick to respond, and very reasonable pricing!! My car had totally died on me and I wasn't sure what was wrong. They gave me an estimate for all the things that could be wrong, and it ended up just being my battery. So all was well! They offer a towing service which is awesome (I didn't use it though but great to have) and the woman at the front desk was super nice. Lovely place and would have been my go to for all things auto! After going to AutoZone on Wednesday and figuring out that my A/C blowing hot air during 90 degree days was not due to needing freon, I called CutShaw to see if they could get it in for an A/C diagnostic. I have an upcoming car trip on Friday and was hoping to get this issue fixed this week. I was told by the Cutshaw staff that if I brought my car in by Thursday morning at 9 AM, then they could have it diagnosed by the close of business at 5 PM Thursday. I changed my Thursday morning plans/schedule in order to bring my car in and drop it off right before 9 AM as they had requested. I then was told by the SAME Cutshaw staff member that spoke with me on the phone the day before that they got really busy and no longer can even look at my car today or Friday but that I "could leave my car with them and see if they could get to it before the weekend and I wouldn't have to pay anything if they didn't look at it." Needless to say, I am extremely frustrated with this poor customer service and this also prevented me from calling any other auto shops on Wednesday since they assured me that they could get it done on Thursday. I will never again use Cutshaw or recommend them to anybody that needs car service done because they are unprofessional, unreliable, and not true to their word. read more

I scheduled an appointment for a state inspection and they said I needed to pay them over $3,000 to pass my state inspection. An inspection that my car passed the year prior. I do NOT recommend this place after this incident. Their interest was mainly getting money to "fix" things that needed no fixing. Things that I recently replaced and fixed at my car's brand dealership. Never coming back or recommending them. Awful service. read more

Had my car inspected (11/9), which they said I needed all new tires and an alignment. Two of my tires were losing about 5 psi per day in cold weather so I figured I needed the tires and approved that. They charged me $1,000 for this. I got off work after they closed so they left the keys in the car for me to pick up (11/11), but didn't mention anything about it being in a back building so I'm left standing around the main building trying to find where they left my car. The next day (11/12) my front right tire drops over 20 psi in 8 hours, so I drop it back off Thursday (11/14). They then say I need the tire sensor and valve replaced which cost $140. Pick up my car and drive home. Now on Friday (11/15) my tire is completely flat! Also, my car said the PSI in the front right tire was at 22 but nope, completely flat. This was not a pleasant experience and I hope I can save at least one person the headache that I'm dealing with currently. I would look elsewhere. Took my car to Midas at 1212 N Arthur Ashe Blvd to look at what Cutshaw did - Cutshaw left the O-ring off which was causing my tire to go flat. read more

I brought in my van because the check engine light was on and running rough and burning oil. I traveled here from a great distance and didn't want to drive it back without repair. They confirmed what was wrong before doing any major work and I'm so glad they did as they discovered the first cylinder in the engine was misfiring and was not worth repair. They could've done the other necessary work and charged me but saved me the time and expense by prioritizing that issue. Their integrity and approach was impressive and I'm grateful for my friend's recommendation. It cost $150ish for the diagnostics but was worth it (though it would've been helpful if they had mentioned that charged when I called to schedule). As a female, I dread taking my car I. For service. Went there for a safety inspection. I did not recall having any bad bulbs but I was told I needed 2. I went in for an oil change for my first visit. The person working was helpful when I dropped off my car. Everyone I dealt with was friendly. The oil change seems to be fine and I have no complaints with how my car is running. I am giving this a 2 star review because whoever worked on my car clearly had oil on their shoes and clothes and got it on my passenger seat and floor mats. They should look at putting down paper or something so that they don't ruin someone's interior like they did to mine. I am not someone who worries a lot about showing off the interior of my car, but I find it bad practice to leave stains from you work that the car owner will never be able to get out. read more

Update, the owner reached out to us and made things right. I appreciate that she took the time, just wished it hadn't happened the way it did. We will probably be going back, prior to the incident below we'd had no issues for years. My husband brought his work van in because it had broken down. He was told repairs (battery and a couple of other small things) would be around $500. Now he is being told that those repairs were just made to see "what was wrong". No one would pay $500 just to see what is wrong with a van that has 200K plus miles. Now he is being told the vehicle will need $2000 more in repairs to run. The "lady" for lack of a better term, was yelling over the phone. This was horrible communication at best and highway robbery at worst, avoid at all costs!!! read more

If I could give MORE STARS, I would. they were very accommodating. I was in a time crunch and they worked my car right in for its inspection. The team fulfilled my every request! I was in disbelief that in this day and age that the customer service was an A plus! They had a guest lounge that they took me to, it had couches and a coffee bar. I brought my car into Cutshaw last Thursday evening asking them to install a new catalytic converter in it for me. I had already purchased the part and hardware so I only needed them to remove my old one and install the new one. I expected this to take no more than 1 hour and cost $100-130 based on what my dad (who is a mechanic) suggested. The person in the office was incredibly polite and seemed to want to help me and the tech who agreed to do the work seemed very honest with me and insisted that it was an easy task that would only take an hour. The person in the office asked the tech multiple times if he'd like to bill for 1.5 hours and he repeatedly said no. Then the office person told me if everything went as planned it would run me $163.50. I thought that was very high for an hourly rate but I appreciated what I perceived as honesty and agreed. They told me my car would be ready the next morning. I called Friday afternoon around 3pm because I hadn't heard from them. I was told that the tech had just finished installing my catalytic converter and my car was moving to the inspection bay (I was having my inspection done as well). I didn't get a call from them telling me my car was done so I dropped by at 5:20 to pick it up and paid 182.25 (the same amount that I was quoted the day before) for the inspection, catalytic converter remove/replace, and a hazardous material fee. I drove off with my car and immediately realized something was wrong. My car was squealing and making thudding noises. When I pulled over it looked like the catalytic converter was not properly attached to my exhaust pipe. I also saw that the driver's side mat in my car had greasy footprints on it. I took the car back and the guy in the office seemed very concerned and tried to call the tech who did the work. He said the tech was scheduled to come back in the morning at 7:30am and I would be the first person whose car he'd fix. I left the car there that night and waited for a call the next morning. I never got a call. At 12:30 pm I called the office asking about my car and was told that the tech who worked on my car wasn't there so I could either pick up my car or wait until Monday to get it back (first thing in the morning). I get how auto repair shops work. I get that another tech wouldn't work on my car because they aren't paid hourly by the shop to do whatever they're needed for. But what a failure. Patrons DESERVE better communication. When you want to hold someone's car for 3.5 days to do 1 hour of work, you are failing. I deserved to get a call on Friday when my car was "ready." I deserved to get a call at 7:45am Saturday morning when someone realized the tech wasn't coming in and my car wasn't getting the repairs I paid for. I deserved for someone to scrub my mat clean instead of rubbing the grease into the carpet and hoping I wouldn't notice. I got my car back on Monday and I got an apology and they didn't attempt to squeeze any more money out of me. But when I looked at my invoice, I saw that they charged me for 1.5 hours of labor instead of the 1 hour the tech INSISTED I be charged for. They also charged me $15 instead of $11 for the inspection. (Their website says inspections cost $16 and I presented them with a $5 coupon from their website. The office person instead charged $20 and let me use the $5 coupon.) During the whole process I was sure they would try to make things right with me in the end. I understand that things happen and people fall through the cracks. That's why I didn't just call my dad to help me after I picked it up the first time. I wanted to give them the chance to earn my returning business. I wanted to pursue a working relationship with them. But they failed me repeatedly in their lack of communication. They repeatedly failed to meet the deadlines they set for themselves. They failed to honor their online prices. They failed to act with integrity in every aspect of the service they provided me. Unfortunately I won't be returning. Mass unemployment? Pandemic? All sorry excuses. Those may be excuses for not meeting any of the deadlines you created for yourself, but that was a small portion of the issue I had with the service I received. Even the workmanship didn't really matter the most to me. It was the lying, cheating, and lack of communication that turned me off. It has nothing to do with the tech, and everything to do with you and the lack of accountability you demonstrated and are currently demonstrating in the way you handle negative, constructive feedback.
