It's crazy to see the prices changing depending on the economics of oil and gas. If gas goes down then obviously the price for pound of metal goes down. Same with it going up. They usually weigh the amount of what you bring and your amount of cash you receive depends that. Don't be surprised though, because it's usually ranging from 6-10 cents per pound. That's just how the economy works. Or more like, that's just how recycling works. So if you ever see a homeless person rummaging through trash, 8 times out of 10, they're looking for soda cans, or anything metal. They'll collect as much as possible to get a few dollars. Even old metal bed frames will work. Think about it, if you're ever finishing up a Coca Cola can, just think, you could save a huge garbage bag and get a few extra cash WHILE recycling. Anyways, this place always has nice workers and they're always helpful. I would like to mention that it's best to go before they open because it can take quite a while to get through all of your scrap metal and then have it weighed. They open at 8am, but I would suggest coming earlier then that as there would be lots of trucks with their stuff. I've been coming on Saturdays in the morning and it always seems the busiest when I go.

You can go to any location through the city but make sure you have someone with you that has a ID and a light, gas or water bill in there name or they will turn you away. Get there early, wait in line and patience. The yard bin fills up pretty fast so you might have to wait about 40 minutes before they take the container to one of the major recycle plants to unload for mulch processing and return. If you have only yard waste (branches, logs, leaves) the wait will not be as long.

Just found this recycling center in north Houston. The staff was very helpful. This center recycles…read morepaper, plastic, cans, and glass. Also, it takes appliances, metal, and tree cuttings. I used to frequent the Sunnyside center. The Kirkpatrick center isn't as up to date. But it recycles and it's there to provide a much needed service. That alone gives it value. Please sort out the items and ensure that it's all clean. The city provided recycling centers helps the Earth by reducing waste going into landfills.

The people at National Iron and Metal are kind and good to me. And there was no line and service was immediate the times that I have been there. Now you should understand that this is an industrial yard with heavy equipment moving around. And I am comfortable in industrial settings because I worked as a drilling engineer for 37 years. But if you are wanting a non-industrial recycling experience (e.g. a recycler that has its customer interface set up so that the experience is like going to the grocery store) then this probably will not be a suitable recycler for you.

Just drive up, one the employees tells you where to pull up to. You pull up they help you unload. They weigh it and about three mins later youre out the door cash in hand. I think this lady should be fired immediately unless you want her to keep running away business. There's no need to be rude with potential clients unless she is racist or something.
