Ask the Community - Houston Dog Coach

My nephew and his husband have a new puppy. Currently we are house-sitting and are learning she needs some training. Are we able to purchase a gift certificate? We live in San Antonio and they live in Houston.

Believe in Dog is the GOLD STANDARD of puppy training! I have enrolled my now 6 month old puppy…read moresince he was 4 months old in puppy 1 & 2 classes plus once a week puppy day school! The results have been nothing less than incredible. In puppy 1 they teach you how to work with your dog on basic skills and necessary everyday things like leash walking. The environment is fun & encouraging! They also have puppy play time so my timid little guy could get used to other dogs and become more social. Puppy 2 expands on that training and adds duration, distance and distractions and how to ween your puppy of treats while training. (Plus a few new tricks & skills.) The puppy day school is my dog's favorite day of his week! He can't wait to go and doesn't want to leave. To clarify, It is actually school not day care. Their ratio of dogs to trainer is approx: 3-1, and all day long they work on training as well as acclimating him to everyday life which includes: noises, different people, objects with wheels, obstacle courses, crate training, playtime, doggie pool time... etc etc. They even give you a report card at the end of the day and talk with you about it EVERYDAY at pick up. Stephanie & her amazing staff are super caring and has really bonded to my dog. I have never experienced anything but welcoming-happy your here attitudes, positive vibes, but most importantly it's a loving / nurturing environment for my dog! Every time I go to believe in dog it feels like a new adventure both for my dog and for me! Thank you Stephanie for what you have created here and thank you to Roxanna, Kate, Isabella, Joanna and the entire staff at BID - you are what makes this such a wonderful special place!

I cannot say enough positives about this facility or its people. I wanted to start early puppy…read moretraining so my GSP started as soon as she met the vaccination requirements around 3 months old and we continued until 8 months. The team worked with her to develop confidence through socialization, communication and learning basic skills including enrichment activities to help us build and support a solid healthy positive relationship. We BOTH did our homework and I am extremely happy with the foundation we have to move forward. While my previous GSPs went to "boot camps" and came back trained and were well loved (and spoiled), we did not develop the level of connection I have with Evey that has come through learning together following the program and doing the homework. I definitely recommend taking the supplemental classes they offer to help you as the handler learn, practice and hone the techniques. It truly makes a difference with your relationship with your dog.

One of the worst financial decisions I've made in my life. I came in for a consultation for one…read moredog. The trainer offered me a "discount" if I enrolled both of my dogs in a two week boarding/training program. $4,000. I was told I would get updates with videos and I had to keep calling/emailing for those. I went to visit halfway in the program via appointment made and still had to wait 25 minutes to see them. When I came to pick them up, one of the trainers was yelling at several dogs and talking under her breath about other owners. The day I picked up my dogs, the trainer must have been in a bad mood and not interested in showing me what they "learned". I noticed they didn't have food and they said they tried to call me. No texts, no voicemails, no emails. I emailed the office after I left and was offered an opportunity to come back to learn how to work with them more. Though that session was more helpful, they did an absolute terrible job from start to finish. They even couldn't spell my dogs names right. My dogs cannot walk on a leash without me having to use their collar every second. They still have anxiety going through doors and waiting. I wouldn't dare bring my dogs back for their "immersion" with other dogs. they told me an excuse after expressing dissatisfaction: they would have done better if they had gone separately. Yet I incentivized to enroll them together ?? Terrible service and business. These people don't know what their doing. I should have disputed the transaction. My dogs are absolutely no better when they left than when they arrived. I'm convinced my dogs sat in a kennel for 14 days.

If you love your pet, do NOT bring them here. If I could leave zero stars I would. My friends dog…read morealmost DIED after she left him here for 11 days. Absolutely devastating. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE. Justice for Goose.

The reverse board and train has helped them be ok with people coming to their home, knocking, making noise. It makes it easy to practice on my own.

We rescued this big baby, Juice, about a year ago and while he has some excellent attributes we…read morecouldn't seem to really get him to listen or obey certain commands. We needed help! After several training inquiries with multiple companies, I immediately heard back from Karma, and a call with the owner was set up. He asked me all about Juice and explained the options he thought would be best. After deciding on "board and train" he said he thought he had the perfect person in mind and they would reach out soon. A couple days later I received correspondence from Sammye Darling, a trainer for Karma, who wanted to set up a call to talk about Juice. During our call she was very confident that she would be able to help with teaching him basic obedience and jumping. We settled on a 10 day timeframe with the expectation that it would be imperative to continue the training ourselves afterwards. (She would've preferred 14 days because that last few days is really when the training sinks in but I assured her we would stay on it) Scheduling was easy and convenient while we went out of town on vacation. Sammye was warm, gentle, and friendly upon dropping Juice off with her and I trusted her immediately. She stayed in constant communication with us, sending pictures, and updates on his progress. He took some time, he's stubborn, but eventually she saw the switch and said he was doing great! I missed him so much but knew he was in good hands with Sammye. Fast forward 10 days later and the day came to pick him up and I couldn't wait to see him. I'll spare you all the details of baby talk, kisses, hugs, etc. but it was a joyous reunion that had us in awe of the things he had learned. We spent about an hour there learning the commands, how to reward them, and practicing before heading home. She worked wonders and we were so excited to go home and continue the work. Before leaving we scheduled our follow up in person training session for a couple weeks out so Sammye could come see him in his own environment and see if we actually kept up with the training which we did! He is doing great! No, he's not perfect and we're still working on certain things but he's a different dog in many aspects. He has a "place" for when we're eating and now does it without asking and gets "off" the bed when it's time (he's too big to sleep with us) so he has his own. Those are two giant wins for us and we can't thank Sammye enough! He learned so much more and we continue to work with him everyday. Karma was professional and quick to respond which is always something I appreciate. Sammye, our trainer, was a delight who was professional, caring, thoughtful, hard-working, and made Juice feel right at home (in her own home) while teaching him some manners. I can't recommend her enough! Juice definitely missed her and was so excited to see her when she came over which further solidified how amazing she was. Call Karma and ask for Sammye as your trainer. You won't regret it!

TLDR: Our dog was attacked and they claim that he scratched himself. First photo is a pic from them…read moreand the rest are after the area was shaved for veterinary care. Judge for yourself if the injuries are scratches or bite marks and if a dog is physically able to scratch itself on the inside of its ear. They are very clearly puncture wounds to us and our vet. --------------------------------------- Dropped off our blind dog 11.24.2025 at roughly 3pm. The morning of 11.28.2025 we received a message that his ear had been bleeding and they believed it was from scratching so they provided him with the expected medical care. Afternoon of 11.29.2025 they told us he was "shaking". My wife was able to pick him up early and take him to the emergency vet (Saturday evening and regular vet closed) who shaved and treated the area and gave him antibiotics. We did follow-up with our regular vet and they determined that the injuries were puncture wounds from a dog attack. When we told them Fur Paws said the injuries were from him scratching himself they looked at us like we had just told them 1 + 1 = 3. In spite of the records we provided from the vet showing his treatment history and their diagnosis of "dog bite wounds and vestibular disease" Fur Paws claims he arrived there with some condition that led to him scratching himself (on the inside of his ear too!). He arrived 11.24, they noticed wounds 11.28, and by the afternoon of 11.29 he was shaking so he had a fever. It takes 24-72 hours for infection and then a fever to occur so one can do the math on their claim that he arrived with an ailment already. Then you add in that these are clearly not scratch marks and you see that they're questioning our intelligence with their explanation. Send your dog here at your own risk.

I could not praise Dr. Savage and her team more! Working with her protocol and one of her trainers,…read moreMegan, has been an amazing experience. My dog, Charlie, has severe separation anxiety and pica, which complicates things that much more. After 3 month of extremely expensive (and complicated) gradual desensitization training with a well-known CSAT company, he had made almost no progress and I was at a loss. Charlie still couldn't be trusted alone without me doing a time-consuming series of "warmup" steps and, even then, only for about 25 min and not reliably. I hadn't been able to leave the house in 7 months without hiring someone to watch him. But after just 1 very reasonably priced virtual consultation session with Megan, and a few weeks of following her recommendations (which were super straightforward!), he has made continual and consistent progress. Recently, we smashed 2.75 hours of alone time and he just keeps getting better! He's so reliably calm that I don't even need to check the cameras for the first 60 min, afterwards only checking in every 10-15 min. I've been able to stop relying on a babysitter just to live my life. Plus, Megan has been a real support through the process, answering my questions and providing me with the guidance I need to feel confident. Trust me: Anyone who is struggling to help their dog overcome any kind of anxiety or trauma should definitely go to Beyond the Dog. TLDR: Have a severely anxious dog? Skip the CSAT and call Beyond the Dog. You won't regret it. I promise.

If you are a cat owner seeking cat training services, look elsewhere. As you can see, 99.9% of the…read morereviews for this company are from dog owners and now, unfortunately, I know why. They know absolutely nothing about how to train cats. We have been keeping our cats separated because of fighting, so we hired a trainer to come out to our home to help us reintegrate them. Before the trainer came, she asked us to have the cats in their harnesses, even though our cats have had zero harness training and for them to be in separate rooms where they can't hide from her, which was an odd request. She spent absolutely no time trying to bond with our cats and decided that on the very first day, the cats were ready to be in the same room together. What? They haven't been in the same room together in months. They are wearing harnesses, which they do not like wearing, there is a stranger in close proximity, and they have been put in the same room together. What could go wrong. Needless to say, everything went wrong. The cats freaked out. They were so stressed. One was trying desperately to hide, but was trapped by the trainer. To top it off, the trainer texted later and thought the cats seemed relaxed when she left. OMG, seriously. It was a terrible experience for the cats and for us. You don't have to be an animal behavior specialist to know all the things the trainer was doing was wrong. Any pet owner with any common sense would know that. We canceled the rest of the sessions. Lost our $250 deposit and money for the training session. What is more disappointing is the owner of the company, Dr. Savage, never reached out to ask why we canceled the rest of the sessions and never asked about our experience with the trainer. You would think, as the owner, she would want to know what happened.
