There is nothing cuter than a puppy, but let's be real, they require a lot of patience and work! That's why we leaned on Peace Love Dogs and enrolled Humphrey in their Prep for Life training program. I am thrilled with what Humphrey learned the past few months at prep school! The dogs must develop great recall skills and other lifesaving skills, such as drop it and leave it, in order for me to feel comfortable taking them on all of the adventures at the lake. Humphrey's ability to walk around high distractions with ease amazes me, and his recall is pretty spot on, too! When my puppy chooses me over rushing to the barking doodle at the fence - that's amore! My sincere appreciation goes out to the PLD team. As a result of the excellent intake team, the friendly front desk staff, and the exceptional trainers, we are very happy with our experience. There is no doubt that Humphrey has a solid "good boy" foundation upon which we can build. Last but not least, I would like to thank Greg and Stewart for their time and talent spent with Humphrey. I am so upset to have to write this review, because I really wanted to love this facility for my 6 month old pup. I am a fairly experienced dog owner, and I have used multiple training facilities for my other pups in different cities. I have never paid $75 for a 30 minute meeting, but when I found out it included a full day of "orientation & daycare" I figured it was okay. During the 30 minute meeting I advised the 2 items I wanted to work on were boundaries and separation from me since I work from home. By lunch, I received a call that my puppy had a "rude" play style (boundaries) and was "unsettled" in his room (separation issues). As a training facility, what do you suggest? What were the corrections? I got nothing except "when will you pick him up?" I advised the plan was for him to be there all day per the initial meeting? And he said fine & that was that. At pick up, I was told he settled after staff gave him a toy to play with. When we arrived home and my puppy behaved as if he had no play time, I realized he was most likely put in his room for the entire second half of the day. Today I took him to a different facility for daycare and he has been sound asleep for 3 hours. Not sure this particular trainer had any experience or any clue what was promised. The final offer was in home training which doesn't even address the separation anxiety? At a facility that wanted me to pay $4k for training, I guess I expected more?? Definitely expected a follow up call so I could have expressed these sentiments to them. Glad to have informed Yelp, my vet & Google instead. 2 stars for a clean facility that is "...often confused for the vet" according to one of the trainers when she noticed my pup shaking (he didn't respond that way at the other 2 facilities he has been to). Puppy group class, private training sessions, and prep school are all things that I have tried at PLD. Let's get into it. I have a medium labradoodle puppy (Barley). Personality- loving, smart, stubborn, full of energy Pros: Instructors are great, genuinely dog friendly, and experienced. You can tell they care about the dogs and as a pet owner that was most important to me. Multiple options when it comes to training formats. Private training helped me work through some of the behavioral issues. Group classes were great because socialization off leash + learning in a structured environment. Prep school has felt like the GOLDEN TICKET. It's only a month but even after two weeks he has shown so much improvement. Most importantly- my dog loves it there. He doesn't even look back at me when he jumps out of the car! Price point is fair in comparison with other training places in the city. Cons: I don't have any at this time. read more

We LOVE Peace Love Dogs and have had such an amazing experience with them and our fearful rescue dog. In less than 3 months we were able to help our dog gain skills to meet new people and make friends. He was terrified to go on walks and melted down regularly, now he is excited to go out and curiously watches neighborhood activities calmly. Our trainer, Stewart, makes training fun and approachable, clearly explaining the underlying dog behavior/motivation and then providing step-by-step instructions on how to deal with unwanted behaviors. We often feel overwhelmed before our sessions but Stewart makes us all feel better. We also love the boarding team- they are outstanding! Currently I am waiting for information about receiving a refund to my account. I made an appointment for a Private Lesson for 03/31. Due to some personal life events, I decided to cancel the lesson completely. I called on 03/22 at around 1200-1230 to ask about cancelling my lesson. I spoke with an associate, whose name I do not remember, and was told that I would receive a refund within 7-10 days after she spoke to a manager and got them to issue the refund. A day later, I checked my account and realized that the session was NOT CANCELLED even though I was told it would be the day before. I, foolishly, decided to cancel the session on 03/23 by myself on their client portal and waited on a refund. Fast Forward to today, I still have no refund. I called and spoke to Brittany who said that they HAD NO RECORD OF MY PHONE CALL OR A REFUND, and that she would have to speak with a manager AGAIN to get a refund issued to my account. Mind you, I have call logs to prove that there was in fact a phone call but because I cannot remember the name of the person I'm being stone walled. Brittany said that I wouldn't be able to speak with the manager UNTIL TOMORROW, I pressed the situation and said well how would I know if this is going to get resolved since it hasn't in the past. She then said that there was a manager there but that they were in meetings and that I should receive a phone call today so THEY "CAN DO MORE RESEARCH". I'm not sure what else they need considering I've provided all the information I can regarding the situation. As a new owner of Corgi puppy we were in need of intense training. Honestly, I was overwhelmed and felt that i needed help to raise my new Corgi the best i could. I was referred to Peace Love Dogs by a former employee of the business and i was not disappointed. They were so loving to Leo and so patient with him. I also like how organized they are in terms of class scheduling, invoicing and keeping you informed. We also had a private lesson with Kay which was amazing. She is the best. Our new adopted EC spaniel, Briar, was unknowingly totally unsocialized when we adopted her & we desperately needed help. Katie assessed her correctly at first meeting & we took 10 private lessons to help Briar cope with normal life, other dogs, noises etc. Katie was amazing in her knowledge, advice, expertise & patience. Briar has had a total transformation & is well on the way to being the super wee dog she always should have been. So far I have only been here once to take my pup to puppy preschool. I am enrolled in the Courteous Canine group training and will update my review after my dog completes it! I dropped my dog off early for preschool. The employee at the front desk walked me back to the puppy room and gave me a tour on the way. I was impressed with the facilities. They are very nice and clean. The puppy room is not too large, but has many fun, learning toys. My puppy stayed in a crate in the room until preschool began. When I came back to pick my puppy up after the day was over, he was having a great time playing with the other puppies. Stephanie is so good with the puppies. She needed their attention and had them sit for her while they waited for a training treat. Stephanie reviewed my puppy's progress report and explained what they did that day. It's so nice to have a doggie daycare with so much hands-on. Having someone teaching and reinforcing good manners/behavior throughout the day is great. Only 8 puppies are allowed in the preschool per day so each puppy gets lots of attention. It's quite a different experience from regular doggie daycares. The price per day is relatively high, but it's worth taking your new puppy to this preschool at least a few times. The staff are very friendly and know all of the dogs by name. This place is great! Money Grab and owner is in way over her head!!! Brought my new puppy in for dog training and all went well until today. In my mind, because Peace, Love and Dogs (PLD) is very expensive I thought she would be well taken care of. About two days ago, my dog started sneezing and I thought it was kind of strange. I took her to vet today and we thought it might be allergies. My vet said just give her some allergy medicine and let him know if it gets worse. With that said, I had reserved to board my dog at PLD this weekend as I was going out of town today. I took my dog over to PLD and had her stuff with me and told the front desk of what was going on with her sneezing and that I would like to keep her away from the other dogs. The person at the front desk said to hold on a minute and she went down the hall to talk to someone. About 5 minutes later she comes back and informs me that they can not keep her and that two other puppies had been confirmed with upper respiratory infection two days earlier. I asked why they did not inform anyone and I was told "we do the best we can"!!! Well the "best you can" made my dog ill and for a ton of money you would think they would better prepared. So to give you the picture of my afternoon, my dog was sick and I was on my way out of town with no options for someone to take care of her. Needless to say, I cancelled my trip, because that is what responsible dog owners do. read more

My dogs have been going to the day care for almost 3 years now. There are a few things we really like the place about: 1. There's a great trainer to dog ratio. the dogs play in a very small group with enough supervision to ensure their safety and I like that they play with the dogs they know. 2. They let you take your own food or treats to feed your dog. We had issues before that our dogs had really bad reactions to the treats they got at the day care. Now we pack their breakfast as treats during the day and they rarely had issues again. 3. Everyone's pretty friendly and cares about the dogs. This place is far and away the best place to take your dog for daycare, training, etc. We brought our dog for puppy care when he was smaller and we were so very impressed with their attention, kindness, and the facility, but it was just too expensive, as they don't take walk-ins and you must commit your dog for multiple days a week for a month at a time (if my memory serves me correctly). If it had been closer to our house we almost certainly would have enrolled him in their daycare, sadly it is in the opposite direction from both of our offices, so it would add an hour to our morning commutes to take him there. What we were able to do with our dog here was take obedience courses...they have a full catalog of courses available...our dog has now graduated from both their Courteous Canine and their Cultivated Canine courses. Trust me that our high-energy puppy has benefitted greatly from learning some basic commands, and my fiance and I have benefitted from learning how best to raise our dog to be well-behaved. The facility at Peace Love and Dogs is outstanding...they have both outdorr and covered play areas, plus multiple indoor areas for the dogs when there is incliment weather. The staff are amazingly helpful and genuinely concerned with the welfare of your dog. I want to be forthright with everyone reading this review - PL&D is not inexpensive or a bargain by any stretch. This is certainly a place where the old adage of "you get what you pay for" holds true. It is expensive...I believe that each of the classes we enrolled our puppy in were around $210 for six weeks of once per week instruction (6 hours total) plus homework assignments delivered via email each week. They are the best in dog training and dog daycare. Different from a lot of daycare places, they have a day schedule for the dogs there. They have been trained with good behaviors and have fun with their friends. My dog loves going there every time and always has a great time there with his friends. I attended their evening training program. It was a great program. Stephanie explained to all of us dog's behavior and how to behave them in a good way. Then everyone practiced with their dogs and the staff was there helping us too. It was also a great family time. We love it and Lucky love it too! People there all have a sweet and big heart. They also help a lot to rescue abused dogs and lost dogs in the street. My dog Lucky was abused by his previous parents and rescued by Stephanie. She saved him and trained him so good. Signed up for Puppy 1 class for our mini Aussie. You meet once a week for 6 consecutive weeks for an hour each time. The trainer and yourself will go over basis commands such as sit, down, roll over and some loose leash walking. In puppy 1, you do NOT go over "stay." I'm guessing that's puppy 2. Yes, the training is treat-oriented. Puppy 1 is in a group setting with 1 trainer to 8 puppies. PSA: You will only get as much out of the program as much as you put in! Puppy class was a great time for our little Aussie to socialize with other pups. He made plenty of new friends and we got to know some of the other owners. He slept through the whole night, after puppy class! Definitely, a plus. I did feel like the staff pressured me about enrolling my puppy into "preschool" which is basically like play/daycare. And I did feel like the puppies that had gone to preschool got special attention in class. Puppy "preschool" is $50 a day. Steep, in my book. Do I think it was worth $210? No. Will I sign my pup up for puppy 2? No. What am I gonna do about my puppy's socialization? Found a great playcare facility that charges me only $30 for 12 full hours a day! And we LOVE IT. If you just look up videos on YouTube on how to teach your puppy basic commands, and put in the time and practice, I can guarantee you that you'll be saving yourself the $210. read more

Hey guys! Me and my pack added a new family member, Sophie. She joined us in the most cliché way possible. Some people were giving away free puppies, and the kids and us were all, "Awe, a puppy!!!" Dumb, dumb, dumb. Don't do that because really you should adopt from people that can give you an idea of the personality of your new pet. I didn't know anything about this little gal. We took her to the vet the next morning, but essentially we jumped into this with no preparation. Sophie wanted to herd my kids. My kids loved her, but neither them nor the puppy knew how to interact. I needed help. I searched for someone to help me with this little lady, and I found Peace, Love, and Dogs, (PL&D) and Houston's own puppy/dog expert, Stephanie Bennett. She is such an amazing person, and she has a gift for training dog owners. I started Sophie at "Puppy Pre-school" and also did the doggie training with her. I received so much helpful information to read along the way. I also was reassured that Sophie is a good, trainable dog. I also learned how to teach Sophie new commands, and obedience training. It's a work -in-progress, but I feel confident that I'll be able to train her. PL&D appeals to my inner hippie. I feel like the dogs are well cared for here, and the staff is so warm. They really care about the dogs here. The only comment is that I wish I could continue dog daycare regularly here, but the almighty budget does not abide. As a first-time dog owner PLD has been great for me. My dog has graduated from their Puppy I and Puppy II classes. She is now almost a year old, and she is very well-behaved with people and dogs. The class style with off-leash breaks really works with puppy socialization and learning how to play with other dogs. I take my dog on long daily walks and we regularly meet other dogs on the path, and she regularly receives compliments from other dog owners on how good she is and friendly with other dogs. I was so happy with the training that I take my dog to doggie day care at PLD once a week so she has social time with other dogs. The bonus is that all the people that work at PLD are trainers too so there is consistency and reinforcement in her training when she's with them. The Very Best Doggie Day Care in Houston!! If there is a doggie nirvana then it must be Peace, Love and Dogs. The dogs actually smile coming in and out of the place. Our dogs wake us up at 5:30am on "school days" as we call it. To be honest though they wake us up at 5:30am every day. When I tell them though we are going to school, they get excited, start stretching and chase each other. The closest thing I could say is catnip for dogs. Wish I lived closer to this place! It is amazingly built and clean. This is our second dog and we rescued her and her sister from impending death at the age of 3 or 4 weeks. I needed a place ASAP that could help me with 2 growing german shepards with chewing and energy 200x normal. Btw don't get suckered into adopt one and foster one! PLD was the only place that had an early program for puppies. As soon as second shots were completed, I could enroll them. I bought the ultimate package, including 2 daycare, puppy 1 and 2. I also got a discount for the fact they were rescues! I toured the facility and compared to other places, there is not a smell of feces or urine or dog. There are several places (rooms) for daycare and a large area for training. Unfortunately daycare for puppies is only offered tues and thurs. If I lived closer, they would have had my business everyday of the week. It takes over an hr for me to drive plus rush hour, no bueno. Fortunately on the weekends, without traffic it was only 30 mins. There is plenty of parking. The best thing is puppy socialization, which for us, was one hr before the puppy 1 class. It worked out well, as my dog can get the energy out and focus in class. There is a small fee to attend puppy socialization, on top of the puppy package. I can only review the daycare and puppy 1 class so far. We are waiting for puppy 2 to start. Daycare was great, loved the report card telling you what your dog did and I found out my dog had dirty ears (I have the dirty kid in class). I promptly started cleaning her ears every night! Puppy 1 class was also good, it is helpful to read the info and PDF file before class. There were no more lessons after week 3 to read so I asked via email and they continue to reinforce topics. Puppy 1 class taught: sit, down, roll over, leave it , stay and loose leash walking. All were practiced in class but really you have to go home and train your dog. I would practice using their tips. My puppy started with the Puppy I class in conjunction with Puppy Daycare/Socialization Saturdays, moved on to Puppy II, and by 8 months achieved her Canine Good Citizen Certification. My next goal with her is to become a Therapy Dog. The trainers and staff at PLD are very knowlegable and friendly; they truly care about each and every client. The facility is always very clean and comfortable for both the training classes and the daycare setting. I am so glad I found Peace Love and Dogs. It has made my puppy training experience so much more enjoyable. In April of 2016 I rescued a 6 pound Chihuahua/Terrier mix, Henry. He LOVES people and LOVES playing with other dogs. Everything was great right off the bat with one noticeable exception. When I would walk Henry on his leash, he would go NUTS each time he saw a dog. He would lunge at other dogs or bark hysterically. The dog could be 2 feet away or 2 blocks. I found Peace, Love & Dogs through Animal Justice League (rescue group where I found Henry), and I decided to give them a call. I met with Stephanie Bennett who specializes in behavior modification, and in meeting with her I learned about leash reactivity. I did not even know leash reactivity was a thing, and I have been around dogs my entire life! My hope in writing this review is that if you have a leash reactive dog, I want to encourage you and let you know that there is hope! With the help of Stephanie and Katie Clark, I have a structured plan in place to help Henry move towards a place where he is learning that walking on a leash can be ok. It is A LOT of hard work for Henry, and it is also a lot of hard work for me. Sure, it is extremely frustrating at times. Sure, I want to throw in the towel sometimes. Stephanie and Katie have worked with me just as much, if not more, than Henry so that we can set Henry up for success. I have a long way to go. Henry does too. I can't even describe the joy that I get to share with Henry when we make little strides of progress. Henry and I's bond is growing. His anxiety is lessening. He is starting to truly enjoy going outside and do his trot of confidence for the world to see. The times where I wanted to give up, Stephanie and Katie both encouraged me not to, and to trust the process. They believed in me before I could myself. They have been a constant encourager. I'm proud of Henry, and I am also proud of myself for trusting in the positive reinforcement practices that PLD preaches --- punishing a leash reactive dog makes it worse! I know that there is a very good chance that with the severity of Henry's leash reactivity that this process is going to be a marathon. I am now ok with that. PLD has given me the necessary tools to be able to get through this challenging time. Training with Henry is just as much about me as it is him. Henry needs me to help him along, and to guide him in a way that he knows that I am there for him. If you are expecting to drop your dog off at PLD and then have them wave a magic wand and fix your dog for you, it doesn't work that way. I have to be consistent and dedicated in training Henry. When I do those two simple things, I see progress. Daycare has been absolutely amazing! Every Thursday morning I get woken up by my little hound with the same excitement of a little kid ready to open gifts on Christmas morning. He knows when it is daycare day, and he cannot contain his excitement. As soon as I say, "Henry, do you want to go to Peace Love Dogs today?" he starts spinning in circles and goes and sits by the door. I know almost every person's name that works there, and they know Henry. It is fun to see how excited Henry is to run round with his buddies each week. It is even better to pick him up and see how worn out he is!! J I can't say enough about my experience with PLD over the last 5 months. They are nothing less than an A+ in my book!
