Friendly and attentive staff! Good experience all around. I accompanied my mom today for her patient. She's a new patient and was referred by her PCP. This was our first experience with HEA. At first glance, I thought this was a standard office building that HEA was renting a space or two out of. Nope. Instead, they own the entire building. With that in mind, they really offer everything you could want and need relating to eye care, from optometry to all your different ophthalmologic subspecialties. My mom was here for a recommended annual visit. We went to the second floor. The front desk staff was nice and prompt in getting us checked in. Highly recommend doing the previsit info through your phone so you can be settled in faster. We arrived a bit earlier than her appointment and waited about 10 minutes before being called in, earlier than the scheduled time which was great. The provider who did the initial the initial tests was informative and efficient. She explained all of the tests as she did them and without much issue. Before you knew it, we were already back in the waiting room for Dr. Lim to go over all of the tests that my mom did. Similarly, Dr. Lim was thorough and took the time to educate us on what was going on along with his professional recommendations. My mom felt comfortable making a decision once everything was done. After getting checked out, there is luckily an eyeglasses store on the ground level. We did not opt for prescription glasses there (yet) but the folks there were also friendy. The wait times at the Sugarland office are horrific. My 2 and 5 year old come here for appointments and every single time we're waiting for over an hour. Then the doctor pops in your room for less than 5 minutes and asks you to wait MORE in the waiting room. Only to go back again for another 3 minute visit. Staff is kind, but that does nothing when I'm waiting over an hour with my two small children. read more

My review is about the facility at 9230 Katy Fwy. Dr. Kovoor is an excellent ophthalmologist, and I can recommend him for you needs. HOWEVER, their optometry side of the business is PITIFUL. I had an exam for eyeglasses after my eye exam by Dr. Kovoor by Dr. Sonia Garrido their optometrist at this location. I took my prescription to the front off to order my glasses. I purchase the highest-end progressive lenses they offer in hopes of getting quality glasses. When coming to pickup my glasses the person fitting the glasses had a hard time getting my glasses adjusted to where they were barely passible. She recommended I wear them for a few weeks to get "used to them". I was leaving on an extended trip the next week and "tried" to wear them for 8 weeks. It was horrible!!! I went back to have them corrected and was told I needed a new exam and prescription to get glasses that would work, so I did. When I picked them up, I couldn't tell much difference, but agreed to wear them for "a few weeks". After a couple of months the glasses are worthless as "progressives" and the field of vision for reading is about 4", causing me to turn my head from side to side in order to read a book or computer screen. So, over a thousand dollars prior to insurance for a pair of essentially distant glasses. I can recommend their ophthalmology services, but I strongly recommend you go elsewhere for your glasses. Prior to this I'd been taking my prescription to Costco for glasses, which were better quality and 25% of the cost. read more

I visited the West Houston location on a Thursday afternoon, an emergency visit referred by my optometrist (Memorial Eye Center on Westheimer - 10 stars!), and the staff took such good care of me. I was in excruciating pain, and they were efficient, kind, and gentle. They fit me in the next day at the Memorial City location for a procedure and were every bit as kind and efficient. Liliana greeted me by name when I walked in the door which immediately made me feel comfortable. Dr. Ou was personable and professional, alleviating my fears and working with a sense of urgency that made me feel like I mattered as a patient. I went back for a follow up yesterday and was again treated with kindness, respect, and efficiency. Dr. Ou, Liliana, Carol, Urecio and Reed (not sure of spelling on those two), and even Alexa at check-out were perfect examples of excellent customer service! read more

After your first appointment and acquiring your insurance info they will, at the Gramercy location, never answer or return a phone call, answer an email nor a "Secure Message". When calling for a subsequent appointment you are put into an "endless chain of "robotic answerers". The "Quality Care" person just puts you back into the endless phone chain. This review is about the Gramercy location. The prices are so high and they get the money on the order. After 17 days you have to run after your glasses because it is not ready. They say 7-10 days it is 17 days and I did not hear anything from them. I have to call and be on the line for a long time to hear that your glasses are not ready and they do not know about the status. I don't even talk about their rude attitude when you enter the store. I would expect them to be nicer and honest with me when I ordered my prescription at least. I would decide if I want to move forward with them or go somewhere else which I would definitely have my glasses by now. I hope the quality turns out good read more

I take my kids here mainly because ex-wife got recommended from the pediatrician to use this place. I recommend arriving 15-20 mins early. The parking lot does fill up at this place. Bathroom Facilities seem limited on the 2nd floor. With it being packed, I'd recommend using the first floor facilities. We waited 30 minutes before being seen. Initially I had to cancel in March, and their next appointment wasn't until May. Other than that, staff and dr were good. The eye glass place on the first floor has some awesome people working there. Very kid friendly. There's plenty of other places to get an exam, but I would definitely check out the eye place. read more

I came here to HEA on grammercy , my aunt had been going to Berkeley because the Dr there frm gas bubbles to oil bubbles her eyesight deteriorated , so I had her come see Dr Richard Urso who did his part and then referred her to Dr Vital who performed her cornea surgery which went well and he referred her to Dr Bailey Lee for macular degeneration because she needed expensive injections Eva his receptionist helped us find help to pay for them . Both Dr Urso and Dr Vital sent letter of retiring . His office referred to a doctor there to check cornea and he left to Chicago , and referred her to someone in Katy way to far . So now Eva I was informed no longer works at Dr Bailey Lee's office and not happy about that she was the most nicest wonderful person who helped you . The place is starting to go down from cleanliness and wait time is just horrible . Will see what happens with Auntie's visit coming up and a new receptionist . read more

oh my gosh dear reader if I could warn you off houston eye associates! they inundated my phone and text with appt reminders. I was already unhappy when I arrived due to what bordered on harassment. I arrived early for my appointment and took my seat. 40 minutes after my appt time I approached the receptionist with a question concerning the wait. she said that they were supposed to tell me that the wait would be an hour to an hour and a half when I called in. I took my 6-year old son for the first optometrist visit, but somehow was scheduled to see an ophthalmologist. We ended up with a big medical exam bill that was not covered by the insurance. I called back many times to check on this wrong billing code, and they promised they would call back but it never happened. I ended up wasting too much time calling and explaining the situation and hoping someone would help, so eventually I gave up and paid the bill. Be careful when you go to this place, they don't care about your real needs and just try to bill you for the expensive services! PLEASE RETHINK THIS ESTABLISHMENT! I was diagnosed with cataracts and referred to HEA by the diagnosing doctor. I was told for 5,000 out of pocket expense I would not have to wear glasses after surgery. My vision is no better after surgery. I keep saying to deaf ears, "But I can't see!!! You told me I would be able to see after surgery". Their only response: "But your surgery looks fine."..."But I can't see" "Your surgery looks fine". Why can't I see the surgeon who did the surgery... "Because your surgery looks fine!!!!!'...Yes, I heard...But I can't see!!!!!!!!!.... Glasses no longer help. My vision is at least as bad as prior to surgery...I can no longer improve with glasses...and all they can say is it looks fine. I never saw the surgeon again. He is like some Olympus Deity whose only interest is cutting and charging. I paid 5,000 to have worse vision!!!! HORRIFIC. read more

You're gonna wait 3 hours. You'll see the doctor for 2 minutes, and they'll be in such a rush they won't even remember you 5 minutes later. The staff is going to nod at you, but they might as well be listening to headphones. The FIRST waiting room will be full of people, and get used to waiting rooms as you will be shuffled from one to another during your visit. Oh, and make sure you fill out your forms online or at the desk downstairs, because if you don't you'll be sent back downstairs to do so in the hallway. This isn't so much of a healthcare facility as it is a prison infirmary. You'll be asking yourself what you did that god would punish you like this. I fired my doctor just for referring me to this place. This is what I imagine "healthcare" looked like in the Soviet Union, and yet somehow it's clearly the product of unfettered capitalism. Houston Eye Associates is very unethical, racist and fraudulent. I went in to simply get an exam for glasses. The staff of Houston Eye Associates sent me through so much torment, pain, grief. With all of that the lens are still not sufficient. I had to pay out-of-pocket for a second opinion to get a corrected prescription. They are also falsely claiming that I am a suspect of having glaucoma. Based on the fact that the doctor omitted the results of a major testing device, I will not accept this claim. Also, when I ask a questions, I am given non-requested information. I have been shouted at by the receptionist who tried to prevent me from signing in. I am a 70 year old black woman and I was shaken. Abstract: My experiences with Houston Eye Associates: * I had two failed exams with Houston Eye Associates. * I had to get a second opinion, which was the third exam, to get the correct prescription. * The second opinion I paid out of pocket. * At Houston Eye Associates the staff treated me with contempt and profound disrespect. * I had to call United Healthcare several times to report the major unethical treatment that I received from Houston Eye Associates doctor Mary Morales and employees. * I believe this organization tried to force me into receiving unnecessary glaucoma treatment. * Eighter of the doctors that I visited provided the report from the large stationary device, the OTC. They used the reading from the handheld device; the one where they can alter the reading to their need. * In the office of Houston Eye Associates, the doctor Mary Morales and staff wanted to ignore my total autonomy. I do not want glaucoma treatment under these questionable circumstances. If I were to get treatment, I would get it from a reputable doctor, one that I trust. I have gone through so much mistreatment from doctors I am afraid of them all. * I am not respected as a person at Houston Eye Associates. Dr. Morales and staff were racists against me, plain and simple. I should not have to fight for paid services from a public establishment. They accepted my money and the money from my insurance and then refuse to provide qualified services. I am not asking for much. Now, I just want my lenses with the correct prescription, and I do not want to see a specialist for glaucoma for a condition that I do not have. They abused me to the point where I founded myself begging for a bad lens. I do not know what they are going to do next in their chaotic attempt to control me. That is what I believe that this is all about. Why in the world would they think by creating this type of misgiving that I would want to trust them with my healthcare? Here in Houston each time I go to an optometrist, I am treated less than a human. As I walked in the receptionist screamed at me, and all I tried to do was to sign in. Eye doctors either destroy my vision, as Dr. Nguyen, of Target did, fit me with an improper prescription, or want to charge me for unnecessary treatments and lab work. Doctors and their staff do not see me as a person; they only see me as a black senior citizen woman with limited powers that they can abuse at will. I am experiencing this so often, and it appears that yes they can abuse me at any cost, place, or time. Doctors only want to capitalize off of my insurance, and I truly believe they want to use me as some type of guinea pig or test subject. I do not approve of being a test a subject or being on any type of protocol, and I will not approve of such. I have given up. I will see if I can pay to have this lens replaced out of pocket. It is like a cattle call over there. Parking lot and waiting rooms are filled-up. Instead of doing all the care in one room (like other eye docs), they have the patient move from room to room - with loooonnnggg waits in between. I was there for 3 hours from the start of my appt time. The amount of time I spent with staff was around 20 minutes - the rest was waiting. Docs are in a super hurry, rushing in and rushing out. Didn't explain what was happening and why they wanted to provide specific treatments. Pass. Looking for a new doc in the future. read more

I had an appointment today with Dr.Porias who had done my previous cataract surgery. I chose him because I was very pleased with my first surgery I had an appointment for 730 this AM at the Gramercy location. I was 15 minutes early...NO problem. The waiting room was not jammed but full none the less. At 8.30 I asked at the desk how much longer it would be as I am a senior citizen with diabetes. I was told there were 3 patients ahead of me which would be another 2 to 3 hours I told her I wouldn't be able to wait another 3 hours for something to drink at witch time she told me all surgery patients had to be fasting. I asked her if all the patients were diabetic at which time I was told I could have something to eat and/or drink I knew I wouldn't be able to wait 3 more hours. She asked if I wanted to reschedule... of course I didn't. I have an appointment with a different Dr. next week. In a side note when I went for my pre op check up last week had a 2.15 appointment walked out of his office at 5.15 due to the fact that he had an intern following him through his appointments that day. As if their cattle call appointment process isn't bad enough (you wait for over 4 hours each time, even if you're the first appointment of the day, and then the doctor sees you for less than 5 minutes), they also steal money. I paid a $40 copay and they noted that but only use a $20 patient contribution and keep billing me for the remaining $20 that I've already paid. I have never encountered a business that is more interested in making money and less interested in the patient than Houston Eye Associates. I came in for a stye but was promptly ushered into a room where they took pictures of my eyes, surely to pad the bill. Then I was given an eye examination via reading the letters on the wall, but this had zero to do with my stye. When the doctor arrived he couldn't have spent more than 3 minutes with me, writing a prescription for an ointment and giving me 2-3 papers on warm compresses and ophthalmologists who could surgically remove the stye if necessary. While I have refrained from posting a review because I'm never returning, I was shocked when my sister had a similar experience a month later. She said the same thing I did, all these guys care about is padding the bill and moving to the next patient. Whoever is running this show needs to change their business model because you are losing patients like me and my sister permanently. The customer experience is unacceptable . My concerns are similar to the ones below. My 5 year old went there for a basic eye exam. They billed over $700 on the medical insurance then wanted to charge us an additional $99 for refraction. Since we have both medical and vision insurance which would cover the basic eye exam this is just unacceptable . To resolve this concern you can see the customer service comments below - I find them accurate and similar to my experience . But he could walk on water and it would not make up for his staff's pathetic service towards their patients and his lateness in seeing the people that pay his salary. I will never go back to Houston Eye Associates and I recommend that whoever does is very careful and pays close attention to how they bill and which insurance they bill to. I was seen by Dr. Crear on Gramercy St back in November 2022 and was billed incorrectly for a service I did not request and then when I tried to work with the billing department they sent my bill to collections despite me being in communication with them. For months I've called multiple times to their billing department and they were rude and gave me different and wrong information each time. Nobody knows what they're doing there. I've called and sent emails to multiple supervisors and get no calls returned. It's been the worse experience of my life dealing with them. read more

Reviewing the Optical Center where you pick frames ONLY. Great variety and many frames to pick from! Theresa helped us and went above and beyond. She made sure the lab ordered my daughter's special lenses, called me back quickly after I left a message, and was kind and patient while we tried to sort something out between their systems as they transition to a new one. Very thankful for her. I had my two kiddos with me and she was friendly and kind to my son who likes to talk... A LOT. Dulce was running the front desk and was professional, helpful, and kind. I don't know the names of the other guys working there, but I could overhear their conversations on occasion (we were there a LONG time) and they both sounded above and beyond helpful and patient. Pretty COVID-safe. They have you return the glasses you try on so they can clean them off before they put them back on the racks! One optician said that a woman could pull her mask down below her nose while they tried the frames on but aside from that masks were on everyone who wasn't a kid. The optician helping us had hers below her nose and pulled down to her chin when she was crouching down next to me showing me something and I had asked already said we wanted to keep our distance.. so.. kind of odd she got close and pulled her mask down. Late in the day, stressful situation, I really believe she just forgot and it didn't last long. read more

Don't come here. My wife had been a customer here for 20 years, and the service has just gone downhill. They're taking their customers for granted and squandering all their business. You can't get in touch with your doctor or an associate unless you're just scheduling an appointment. Otherwise, there's zero customer support after the fact. The absolute worst. I would not wish my horrible experience here to anyone. This practice had my three year old wait three hours to see the doctor for a total of 15 minutes. It was an hour wait to see the person that performs the initial exam, then waited another hour to get her eye dilated, then another hour wait to see the actual doctor. Want to get treated like a piece of meat going through a revolving door? Try this place out. I've been seeing Dr. Kai Chu here and at their League City location following a episodes of glaucoma attacks and her practice is just as shady as Houston Eye Associates' business model is. In the whole Houston area, it seems like the group has very few glaucoma specialists. Her office is overwhelmed with patients and it looks like they schedule patients in 15-minute blocks. Why else would her visit only last 5 minutes long? Her latest prescription caused damage to my cornea, when I tried to contact her telling her my eye is turning blood red and it's getting increasingly hard to take these medicinal eye drops that she has prescribed, she told her assistant to tell me this is all normal and that you would get used to it in time--it was not normal. I booked another appointment with her within a week; she barely looked at my eye "hmm... ok, yeah, let's get you off of those new drops and you still have to maintain your regimen from before but let's take 1 of them out--I'll let you choose." Who tells a patient that? If you want to know if a set of drops are working for a glaucoma patient, you can't schedule them a month out and then cancel their appointment NOT ONLY ONCE, BUT TWICE, because you have a meeting. Overbook 1 patient a day (that need your attention over the next week). Call it bad luck, call it being human. But I got screwed--and I had to pay for it through my health and my wallet; of course, Houston Eye Assoc. would not let me forget to pay my $50 co-pay for a follow-up visit to assess the damage caused by my "glaucoma specialist." I did call to complain and discuss the matter with the office and they did nothing but essentially say "I'm sorry. There are no notes for "x." Pay here." I asked them to move me up the chain. "I'm sorry. There are no notes for "x." Pay here." If you are a patient suffering from glaucoma, DO NOT GO TO THIS GROUP. Well, at least Dr. Kai. She's too busy, she is too incompetent, she cancels appointments that are booked months (already hard to find spots with her), and either she did not catch the scarring occurring over my trabecular meshwork or she simply did not want to tell me. Never in my treatment did I learn anything about my care. Pick a facility that has reputable glaucoma specialists--and not just one, but an office where every ophthalmologist is well trained in dealing with it. If you're a patient who would rather stay ignorant of what's going on and blindly follow your doctor's treatments--this might be the place for you, though I cannot guarantee that your eye will get better. I used to run a doctor's office, so I am pretty patient when it comes to waiting for an appointment. I am 56 years old, and I have never had to wait 2 1/2 hours for an appointment in my life! My appointment was for 2 PM today and it is 5 PM, and I still have not been seen by a doctor. I don't care how good these people are at what they do, they completely over book!!!! There were over 20 people in the lobby when I arrived, and there are still probably 10 people ahead of me. This is ridiculous, and no way to run a business. I totally understand the occasional emergency that could occur. But this seems to be a business model: they just pack them in the lobby like cattle and keep apologizing to everybody. Honestly a bit shocked at how our first appointment went at this location. I was referred to Houston Eye Associates for my 10 month old and we will not be back. The receptionists at the initial registration counter were extremely snarky and sarcastically responded to my question about which IDs they needed. Our appointment was at 9:40, we finally got called back at 11:00 am. Silly me thinking we were going to see the doctor. They gave my baby eye drops and asked us to wait another 30 minutes in the waiting area for his eye to dilate. Finally saw the doctor around 11:35. Have you ever sat in a waiting room with a 10 month old on your lap for over two hours? Insane.
