I had an amazing experience at the Berkeley Eye Center on Weslayan. To get LASIK surgery. From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel welcome and supported. My anxiety was extremely high -- so bad that I couldn't even put in contact lenses. Ashley, the counselor, took the time to slow everything down, explain each step, and reassure me about what to expect. She never made me feel rushed or embarrassed, and that meant more than anything. The nurses, Brenda and Briseyda, were just as incredible. They were patient, gentle, and very understanding about how nervous I was. They talked me through everything, checked on me constantly, and helped me relax when I felt overwhelmed. By the time we were done, I felt calm and confident instead of scared. Dr. Sun was exceptional during procedure. If you struggle with anxiety about eye procedures, this is the place to go. Their kindness, professionalism, and genuine care for patients really stand out. My Dad needed cataract surgery and this location is convenient & works with his insurance. There were about three pre surgery visits to measure his eyes, figure out his prescription, etc. The day before the surgery Dr. Kaplan came in to review everything with us and go over the procedure. He was reviewing all our records and he noticed a piece of plaque blocking an artery that went in to the eye. Of course I'm happy he saw this prior to surgery. My Dad is considered high risk because he has previously had heart surgery. We had to see our cardiologist to get clearance for surgery. Dr. Caplan is very smart! You can tell within minutes of talking to him that he is great at his job & has found his calling! He & his staff interact with so much ease, respect, & professionalism it's like watching a difficult dance choreography. Honestly we cannot find anything that could have been done better or differently. Only recommendation we have for future clients is to schedule your appointment in the morning vs afternoon. And arrive early if possible. Great office, amazing Surgeon, very caring staff. Highly recommend!! We try to schedule our appointments early in the morning because they go much quicker than afternoon appointments. Plus the morning staff is excellent & very personalable. P.S. I have been a patient of Berkeley for about 20 years. It has always been a pleasant experience. Yesterday, at a glaucoma check, my doctor suggested a minor surgical procedure that might help me but another doctor would have to do it. Scheduling with that doctor was difficult (busy doc) but, because of Medicare, I need to have the evaluation and procedure done by the end of the year. Anna, at the Greenway Plaza Office worked very hard to get me scheduled. She made several calls within the office and numerous calls to me to keep me updated. This is my second appointment this year and the wait & accuse was the same. Both times, I waited 40 to 50 minutes from my scheduled time with the accuse that "we are under staff". Personally, I think this is BS. They over book; the lobby had 15 -20 patients waiting to be seen by technicians. The service was ok; they run so many patients through the office, I felted like cattle. Also, the staff did not recognize the delays in service and no apologies. I had seen two other doctors offices this morning; both were on time, friendly, personal and professional. I hope Berkeley can improve their services. read more

WOW I don't know where to start with the exceptional care I received at Berkeley Eye Center. I started the process about a week prior and had the procedure done the next week. The whole process start to finish was a breeze. Ashley was great scheduling everything and communicating with me with any questions I had. Brenda was so helpful and friendly helping me through the process and answering all of my questions and concerns. On the day of the procedure, the wait was slightly longer than expected but I didn't mind. I knew I was in great care. They checked my vision again, visited with Dr. Caplan and he reassured me that the procedure would go smoothly. When it was my turn to go under the laser, I became very anxious and started crying. The staff recognized my concerns and reassured me and comforted me. The procedure lasted no longer than 5 minutes. They reconfirmed my instructions for after care and said they would see me in the morning. I can't recommend Berkeley Eye Center enough. Amazing staff who genuinely take care of you. I had my LASIK Surgery approximately two weeks ago. My experience with Berkeley Eye Center was amazing. First person I made contact with was Ashley. Ashley is absolutely phenomenal. She was able to assist me with every question and concern I had before and after my Lasik surgery. On the day of the surgery the entire staff made sure I was comfortable before and during the entire procedure. The surgery was successful and I'm very pleased with the results. Don't come out thinking you're going to see immediately. It takes time for your eyes to heal and then deal with the sensitivity at night especially with bright lights. As long as you follow the Doctor's orders you will be just fine. This was the best decision I made in getting the LASIK done. I'm definitely a satisfied customer. read more

Everyone was really nice here as was the eye doctor. The wait want too bad either. I used to only like older doctors but now I am ok with younger ones too as they're more up to date with the latest technology and advances. Our doctor for my kid was awesome (Ramirez). They were not push at all on glasses sales. I may knock a star off if they don't process the insurance correctly the first time (still waiting to see). I guess that's a rare thing these days. Berteley's Retina West location is suffering from lack of management. At my LAST appointment for Macular Degeneration shots in both eyes, I was told that I only needed a shot in one eye. The assistant referred to my chart to illustrate that this was accurate. After showing the assistant and the doctor paperwork to prove that I was right and my chart was in error the assistant took the paperwork to enter it into my chart. A moment later she said that it was already in my chart AND that the chart they had up on the computer WAS NOT MY CHART. Management failed in their protocol and their training programs. A potentially eyesight threatening mistake was averted only because my wife and I were tenacious. Of interest, I just received a phone message asking me to confirm or change or cancel my upcoming appointment. In order to cancel it, it was required that I enter my date of birth. A machine followed the protocol that at least two assistants failed to follow at the appointment described above. read more
