My daughter has gone here for about 8 months and really loves the IGT Girls Program (She is 6 years old - almost 7). The coaches in the program and the admin are all really great and care so much about the kids. I love that she gets to learn how to compete while still in level 1 and gets to practice competition before it gets more serious at higher levels. I will start with what I have loved about HGA. Coach Tessa has been great with my daughters' class. She is involved and a great cheerleader for the kids. She is invested in the girls and their routine. The reason I gave it a 3 star: 4-5 star for coach Tessa 1-2 star for HGA and this is a cattle call for revenue when they have classes and there are so many kids it feels like daycare. Plus they have competitions but there is no format for the kids to practice. If your child needs extra assistance in one skill, there is no format to do a private to master the skill. They run this like a business and are not invested in developing and growing the children. read more

Great class engagement and administrative support when I called to discuss my daughter's special needs during class. Val, the director and coach Sergio were extremely understanding and supportive during my call and during follow up. My daughter loves her gymnastic classes and is interested in the ninja offerings at the location. Invest time communicating with the staff about any of your concerns s and they will respond in kind. Enrolled my daughter. When taken to class. My exited 4 yo was asked to be removed from class. She was sad and cried out. The funny part is that I paid for the class which I had enrolled her. I called back. They explained it was an error in their part. When it was my turn to talk the girl on the other side of the phone started to talk over me. I told her it was rude to talk over people. I told her at least an apology. I wasn't offered a solution or money back. I didn't want to talk to her anymore because it was impossible to talk on top of other person. There is no kindness, or any customer policy on place. It was rude. I think the people need more training in how to keep a conversation. Allison was rude, talked constantly over me and an understanding could not be reached. My d daughter was crying. I asked to be called my manager. I hope I can have a conversation. They owe us the class. The receipt from my transaction when I enrolled my kid said she was supposed to be in the class my daughter was taken out from. read more

Houston Gymnastics Academy made people pay in advance for multiple adult gymnastics classes, then ended the program without notice and refuses to issue refunds for prepaid classes. Absolute scam/fraud. read more

The facility itself is great, nice equipment and very clean. However the coach made me dislike it. I have toddlers and it is clear that the coach responsible for teaching the 2-3 year old class had no idea or patience for teaching kids these ages. She was constantly rude to my 2.5 year old, resulting in his unwillingness to participate. She played favorites and made going to gymnastics miserable for my kids. When she was unable to teach class one day, she told the substitute coach that my child was difficult- yet when she wasn't his teacher that day, he did amazing! Kids can tell when an adult doesn't like them and it was very evident. Definitely was not worth the money. read more

New Carpet has been put into the observation room. My son attends weekly classes. He also comes here for camps when school has vacation days. This is a real gym not a kiddie school. All of the equipment is 1st class. The instructors work with small groups of kids and rotate them through out the gym. I see reviews about the condition of the gym but remember there are hundreds of kids every day coming in and out. The observation room might need a coat of paint but the actual gym area is first rate. read more

We used to take our kids to the Parents' Night Out here and stopped doing so after our kids confided in us that "the staff acted nice and polite" when we (or any parent was around) but "one woman yelled at all the kids" and "punished all of them" when a few misbehaved. We were horrified. There is a clear lack of training, experience and number of staff for working with kids. We reported the incident and never went back. The stress and worry of our kids in that environment was not worth the date night. read more

My daughters spent three (3) years doing competitive cheer at this gym based solely on the skills of the three (3) amazing coaches they HAD leading their teams - Coaches Nathalie, Nicole and Dani. However, the gym itself is a mess and basically run by crooks. When management started unilaterally firing coaches AFTER the 2018-2019 competitive season had started (and after parents had already signed contracts for the year) to save money - they made leaving the gym a non-brainer! I would strongly encourage anyone interested in participating in competitive cheer/gymnastics to stay as far away as possible from this place! read more

Well, we gave this place a legit shot. I have had two of my children enrolled in classes here for the past school year, as well as thrown a birthday party in one of their party rooms. So, we are experienced with this location. This place is so, so poorly managed. For starters, as you can read in other reviews, it does have sort of a "smell" to it when you walk in the door. Like feet. So there's that. The same girl seems to always be at the front desk. She is not friendly whatsoever and doesn't greet a soul who walks in the door. If you ask her any questions, it definitely feels like she is doing you a favor by responding. Whoever is doing the hiring here is TERRIBLE at it. My older daughter had 7 (that's SEVEN) instructors in the past year because people would just flake and quit after a week or two. Or forget to show up for the class, and maybe show up the following week, maybe not. Or just be 20 minutes late. There are no makeups, by the way. And so many of the "coaches" have zero knowledge of how to interact with a small child, let alone have knowledge on how to teach a child gymnastics skills. They just mailed in their time and showed a clear lack of effort towards "teaching" the class. Then the kids would do the exact same class every single week. Same warm up, same exercises on the different events. I'm pretty sure my older daughter learned nothing but the memorization of the warm up routine after ten months of weekly classes. My daughter loves gymnastics, so this was where she wanted her party. The birthday party experience was mediocre. The staff act like all the birthday slots are all completely booked, and then give you only 30 minutes to decorate a dirty, cluttered dance room to try to look remotely festive. And then you are the only party booked that day. The kids had fun running around the gym though. Only good thing I can think of: Coach Misty is very nice, and was the only reliable person I met there. We've been doing gymnastics since both kids were babies so we know there are better options. We are switching gyms. read more

I called to inquire about possibly moving my daughter to this gymnastics program from another place, but the girl on the phone was so rude, I decided I will not consider this gym. She was impatient and didn't want to hear about my daughter's situation and I was calling to see if they would have a class where she would fit in. She started cutting me off on the phone and then I could an attitude over the phone. While they are great for parents night out and birthday parties, I will not be moving my daughter here. This place is run by amateurs who don't care about children and care only about sitting on their behind and making $$$. Poor customer service and hardly any mature adults around ever. The facilities are run down and dirty. The instructors we've dealt with have been lazy and totally uninspiring. The person supposedly in charge, Misty, lies and makes false promises and is a major part of why this place gets the reviews it does. My daughter loves going here! She goes three nights a week for different classes and then goes almost every Saturday, too. She loves Ashley, Kelsey and Desi so much! They are so good with the kids-- very encouraging and fun. The one thing I think could be improved is communication with parents around progress in the skills. Our last gym was really good about sending home skill "report cards" every 4-6 weeks and we got used to that. I don't feel like I know as much about what's going on, but my kiddo loves it and would be here all day, every day if she could. read more

My 9 year old has been coming here for about a year. She previously attended ASI for roughly 3 years, but because we relocated we had to find a new gym closer to home. Coach Ashley has been outstanding. She has pushed my daughter to her fullest potential while still making it something my daughter enjoys. The gym as a whole is great. The other gymnast here are top notch gymnast which can be partially accredited to the coaches coaching them. The tuition is a bit high, but all in all it's been a gym I would recommend to others. read more

Our son has been going here for gymnastics for 1.5 years; both private and group classes. Coach Sergio is both loved by the kids and also gets them to work on their strength and fitness. Our son is much stronger. I love the work he's done on midline activities and balance. We have done two parties here too. They are great especially for large groups! read more

I love this place - the coaches are all just really nice - enthusiastic and fun - and so patient! My 6 yr old nephew is always really positive about himself and his skills when I pick him up, and the gym has an advanced older team for him to watch and use as a goal for the future. read more

I don't even know where to start. I would not recommend this gym. There are much better alternatives that would give you better service for your money. I signed up for this gym although my gut feeling was to walk away from the beginning. Customer service is so terrible, I felt sorry for the owners losing customers for no reason. We signed up because my kid was eager to try it out. Then our classes begin. For four weeks I sat down and watched my daughter get bullied by another girl while her coach did nothing. When I said bully's behavior is really stressing us and they need to do something, the only response was that the coach warned the bully but bully would not listen. No further solution was offered. Long story short, I decided to change her class to avoid the bully. I should have canceled membership and walk away. Then comes the final straw. We started with a new coach, which I believe was the person who introduced herself as the preschool group supervisor. During class, I am told an older kid bumped into my kid by accident and she got hurt. Accidents happen but what I saw made me take my daughter and walk away without looking back. My kid was already stressed from her past experiences in this environment and she was surprised and scared. She naturally wanted to seek the comfort of a parent instead of a new coach. She is four years old. Instead, I watched this coach use force to physically restrain my daughter from reaching out to me. My daughter was scared and I helplessly watched the horror in her eyes. When I was able to pull her out of the class, she was scared and told me her teacher was mean to her. Even if the coach was not able to give access to her outside of the class, her behavior was far from comforting. There are many ways to comfort kids if you know how. We canceled our membership on the spot and finally walked away. For these reasons, I would not recommend this gym, particularly for younger kids. Staff and their teaching approaches are not compatible with the needs and abilities of younger children. FYI, This is not the first gym class we have taken. We have seen MUCH BETTER. Also, I am not a stranger to schools and early childhood education programs in professional life. I've never seen such incompetence in my life! Please, please keep your younger children away from this place. There are much nicer alternatives in Houston where you and your children would be treated with much love and respect by competent staff. read more

My son has been on the Men's team for three years and it's been the most amazing experience. The coaches are the most dedicated I've seen, John and Jose. I can't imagine going anywhere else. HGA has become our second home and family. We are very excited to start practices in the new gym. My son is a competitive gymnast and we travel to this gym every year for meet season. It is a terrible venue. It smells.. It is very small and uncomfortable.. The risers are falling apart and seem treacherous.. And they allow young children without parental supervision to record and post scores. Needless to say, the children make A LOT of mistakes! This should be an expected result and is the reason why well-run gyms have people over the age of 14 performing these duties. Absolutely ridiculous. They charged each person a $12 entry fee... Let's hope they put the money they earn from these overpriced tickets to good use and make some MUCH needed improvements. read more

We have been taking private lessons at the Houston Gymnastics Academy for several years, and we have had a very positive experience working with our instructor Sergio Zapata. He is positive, thoughtful, patient, and kind with both my 7y/o son and 5 y/o daughter. Sergio has really helped my son (who is on the autism spectrum) with body control, gross motor skills, understanding instructions, and following directions. Both kids look forward to their weekly lessons-it's one of the highlights of their weekend. read more

Great gym with great coaches who are knowledgeable and care about your child's safety and success. My son started 2 years ago in the recreational classes with Coach Sergio. He is awesome and helped him tremendously with his technique. My son was able to make the Men's Gymnastics Team with his help. I highly recommend Coach Sergio for classes and private lessons. My son now trains with Coach John and Coach Jose. Both coaches are amazing and are very knowledgeable. They truly care of the boy. HGA has been the best experience for my child. read more

I registered my daughter for the first week of summer camp. She has never done gymnastics before but was eager to try it. It is only day 3 and she is loving it! We were greeted by the camp director as soon as we walked in and she was very helpful in assisting my daughter get settled in and making her feel comfortable. I think her nerves kicked in when she saw how big the gym was and all of the equipment. However, when I picked her up the first day she was excited to tell me about all of the fun skills she learned and new friends she had made at HGA. We're excited to have found this gym and look forward to more camp sessions this year. read more

I wish that It would allow me to give zero stars. I am so saddened by my experience moments ago with Houston Gymnastics Academy. We were on our way to class in heavy rain. We got caught in a flash flood outside the HGA building at South Rice. If you have lived in Houston more than a minute, you know that Bellaire and especially S. Rice are prone to flash flooding. We were grid locked for 40 minutes outside the building with traffic stuck in high waters. My daughters, who remember hurricane harvey, were TERRIFIED. I called HGA immediately at 5 pm (our class start time) and told them that were were stranded just walking distance away in high water. The receptionist said "oh yes, we often get flooded in". I asked for a refund for the class and she said she was not at liberty to do so. I emailed HGA the photos I took of the flooding at their building. The manager (Sam) called back 30 mins later, we were JUST finally getting away from the gym flood traffic. I asked her for a refund. She said NO because "the news didn't report flash floods". She said that the water "isn't that deep NOW". I said, "yes, that is because it is a FLASH flood". She then said she was going to have the receptionist drive around to see if I was telling the truth!! I cannot fathom how she thought it was acceptable to put her employee in harms way because she did not want to refund 1 class. I will be getting refund for both of my daughters' summer tuition if they do not make this right. Very sad. I can accept a "NO" as the answer for my refund request, but I will NOT tolerate being called a liar. read more

CAMP REVIEW: I used this place a few times for their summer camp and day camps. I felt the camp was overpriced but signed up my kids as my older son, age 7, was interested in doing the monkey bar and cartwheel and things like that. But from what I observed and heard from my kids, they do not learn any gymnastics in the camps. The girls at the front desk are not reliable, and they do not send email confirmations or any notifications. I had signed up by phone for day camp but when we arrived in the morning, our names were not on their list. They still took us in, but a little after 3 I received a call saying that we were late to pick up the kids. I very well remembered that when I signed up over the phone I had asked for the All Day camp which is until 5:30. I complained but was told there was only Full Day camp scheduled on that day which runs until 3, and that I had to come immediately to pick up my kids. Upon arriving, I asked the girls at the front desk if I could talk to a manager, and they pointed to a nearby gentleman who turned out to be the owner of the place. I politely explained the scheduling/communication issue, that when I signed up, I was not told that only the short camp was available, and since there is no confirmation email, there was no way for me to know. The owner instead blamed me for not knowing their schedule, repeating in a condescending manner "so interesting that all the other parents knew and you didn't, huh?" I realized that there was no point in arguing further with this person and left, bewildered by how a business owner can be so rude to a customer. Needless to say, I am never going back to this place. read more

We had our daughter enrolled in the Spring Camp they had in April. Our plan was to get her to join regular classes if we liked the place. But the camp experience wasn't good at all. My 5 year old lost her gold earring on the last day of camp- on trying to inquire about it, the staff wasn't helpful at all. There was this lady who looked at me like I was disturbing her o, when I stopped by their location on a Saturday late morning, close to closing. Guess she just wanted to go home! No "hi" or "how may I help you" - not even a smile. And not at all helpful when I told her how my 5 yr old had lost a rather expensive gold earring, just the day before. She couldn't even tell me who the instructor was. Not a call from them even after I called multiple times to address this issue. Each time, they would ask for my phone # and tell me they would call me back. Never heard from them. Needless to say, we are not going there- either for summer camp- or regular classes. read more

We were coming up on 2 years with this place. They are extremely arrogant, rude abs u accommodating. That's just with reception and management. Moving to the actual classes RECKLESS and lack supervision. My daughter fell because the instructor wasn't paying attention. I use to work here around January-February of this year (2015). Probably one of the worse jobs I ever had. I love kids and have such patience with them. I love teaching and playing with them. That was the ONLY bright side to this job. The kids. The employees here are horrible. Nothing but gossip till their head were about to fall off. I'm not going to say their names but they teach the 3-7 year old kids. They have no patience with them along with talking crap about the kids if they had a funny hair cut. It was obvious they did not like new employees and you could sense they talked smack about you. One day they moved me with a chick who I did not like because she had a bad attitude. Well we were teaching the kids how to do cartwheels and one girl was having issues. The instructor kept yelling what was wrong instead of showing her. But then she showed her but would basically be pulling on her arms and legs instead of being gentle. She basically gave up because she had to "keep teaching". Well I pulled the girl aside and withing 3 minutes she did a good cartwheel. How happy was this little girl? She ran to me after she did 5 cartwheels and hugged me. That was a joy I loved for teaching. The girl in the front desk (blonde) has a very mean mugging attitude and face. I'm nice to my coworkers just to keep the peace but she would look at me like why did I say hi or bye even have a nice evening. The coaches for the toddlers class are very arrogant and rude. They are over 25 years old and act like they're in high school. One instructor I liked who did the advance gymnastics was trying to teach me how to do a backflip. One of the girls made a comment how I like him and how I should stop flirting. Very childish for someone over 25. I'm 20 and act more mature than she does. I was just trying to learn how to do a backflip because I never had the guts to do so. Anyways, I recommend (if you are a parent looking for a class) go to another gymnastics place. Don't work at a place where someone might say a mean comment to your kid and laugh with the employee, find someone who has patience and the mindset that a kid can't learn fast. Don't waste your money and time on this place. read more
