It Texan awful long time to get down here from Downtown or Montrose or Galleria, in rush hour anyway. But at other times, it can be okay. It's a pretty good YMCA that is brand new but still kind of small compared to the one downtown. It doesn't get too crazy busy and is a very multicultural gym, which is a great thing. The equipment is good but definitely better in the downtown location. Although downtown just got rid of some of their most vital equipment because the people running it have issues. But any location that has Barbies fake tanned feet being shown off next to the Houston Texans symbol has to be at least a 4-star gym am I right? read more

This YMCA took care of my kiddos when I was looking for an affordable place that wasn't too far from work. The facility is very nice and the staff was friendly and professional toward us in my experiences. I feel like my children were safe there. As a child, I attended the Y after school and have many fond memories from participating in sports teams with the organization. I'm glad to see that some things do stay the same. This is my 2nd time at this Y and I absolutely love it!! (I used to go to the downtown location but moved to this part of town). Here is what makes this location great: the facility is clean, the staff is friendly (love the energy of my Body Pump instructor), not as many group classes as downtown but more variety with early morning / evening classes, which is what I need with my work schedule. For those of you who have kids, like me, the childcare area is more welcoming than the one downtown (playground is a plus), however they have limited hours from 4 to 8pm (perfect for me but might not work for everyone). The outdoor pool has a rather large and safe area with fountains that is perfect for toddlers. The downside is that there is no indoor pool, so no swimming after summer. read more

This YMCA is very family friendly. Similar to most YMCA's they cater to children and their parents. For individuals that do not have families they offer memberships for a fraction of the cost of some of the larger franchises. I personally go to this "Y" because of the location and the hours of operation fit nicely in my busy schedule. Working out is a lifestyle that needed to be incorporated in my life daily and the Texans YMCA has helped me achieve that goal. read more

One of the newer facilities, this Y has it all! I really enjoy dealing with the staff and youth program directors at this location. Can be crowded at times due to its location, but certainly never to the point that you can't fit cardio in. Childcare is great here as well. read more

Pros: clean, newer facility, LEED certified Cons: cardio machines are turned off 55-65 minutes before closing. I asked why and was told its 'A process'. Don't expect customer service at this location. Overall. Fairly nice, clean facility for a brief (very brief) workout if you can't make it during normal business hours. Take their posted business hours and deduct am hour or so. Maybe select another location if you choose the one-location only fitness package. read more

Most of front desk are polite but some are very sarcastic. Then you have a trainer who enjoys YELLING all the time ? Think he may think he's in the army or wants to be. That or they don't know how to just use the intercom system. The Machines tvs volume are broken on a lot of the machines and they also noted been closing before the actually time cause they want everyone out before the actual time of closing. Then they wanna shut down Machines an hour early it's quite rude, And some days they will have closure of gym without giving notice more then two times I've had to read a sign on the door. Glad I found a better gym for next month and won't have to deal with the management who never gets back to you when you voice an issue. Don't recommend at all this place read more

I live close enough to bike here so I'm excited to have such an excellent facility close by! There's plenty of parking and it's next to the post office if you wanted to run another errand on the way to the gym. I mostly come here for the fitness classes- my favorites are body pump, turbo kick, body attack and step. Sometimes the instructors don't show up so that can be frustrating. I love this YMCA. The thing that really put me on to it was the child care area that's bright and active for children. They'll work with you to lower your monthly membership if you bring in a pay check stub to show how much (little) you make. Ordinarily it's a $50ish fee but I've had mine reduced to $40 a month. The staff is friendly, the facility is clean, and there are a nice number of machines to choose from. The only downside is the lack of space to lay down mats for doing your ab workouts and what not. But you can usually find some corner to wiggle into. read more

We LOVE the YMCA!!!!!!!! Everyone there is incredibly friendly! My kids have never been left with anyone since they have been born and the ladies in childcare have been extremely helpful with easing my kids in! My son loves to go to childcare and he can't wait until he gets to go! The classes are so much fun and all the instructors are really nice! I am really happy with our decision to join! read more

Some of the staff are very rude. When you voice a complaint to management, they insist you write a detailed message and never get back to you. They never stay open for the advertised times and most of the amenities they boast about are seldom available. Don't let the quiet environment fool you, they are empty for a reason. read more

Overall not bad. Came here today did a pretty good work out. Went upstairs to an open room to do abs and was told I can't be in the room without an instructor. Odd. Pay to use a facility, but can't quite use the facility. I miss my Army gyms. Will go somewhere I can actually workout. read more

I will never step foot in this overpriced unprofessional gym. They are not customer focused At All just a expensive waste of space. I guess since there in a black area they feel they don't have to treat customers with exceptional service. I would rather see a 24 hour fitness in that space which is where im going as soon as I can. Dont underestimate the power of black dollars. I now know why people around here say they don't care to have a membership with this YMCA. I've been coming here for a long time now and it just keeps improving love the gym equipment,it's always cool in there no matter how hard I'm working,enough machines for the busy hours,love the new trainer in there,he's always willing to put. The only thing I hate about this time is all the children everywhere. Running around and in and out the locker rooms. And when I go is probably before I go to work, and when them girls are changing in the locker room,I'm not allowed in to get my purse and go when I'm in a rush. I don't understand how you don't have a section for them to change or how they can't just go into the stalls in the back especially when I'm in a rush. But other than that I'm good read more

This is a great workout to be at. Great swimming trainer who are very patient with me and my son. You have plenty of parking spaces. The front staff greet you with smiles all the time. I love the child watch area and so do my son and cousin. I like the water park area for the toddlers who can not swim. They provide all that you need at the Y. I love the step class. She is great. Great workout place! Staff is polite and friendly!! Wish they had the child care open earlier! I would love to get my work out done earlier and not have to wait till 4:30 (don't have anybody to watch my 4 year old during that time). My 8 and 9 year old get to go with me and are able to use only two of the equipments because of their age (bicycle and treadmill). It's a good way to introduce them at an early age the importance of working out at least 30 min a day. Before they even start using any of the equipment they have to go through some kind of assessment with them (you have to make an appointment). They talk to the kids about the importance of working out, how to use the equipment properly and several other safety rules they have to follow when using the equipment. Kids have to go through the assessment/training before having assess to any of the equipment in the wellness center. read more

Just like any business, you're going to have ups and downs. After being a member of this location for over a year, I think I can speak clearly that majority of the staff is awesome, from the front staff to the group instructors. Things that i will say need improvement are the equipment in the weight room, the weight room staff, and the free weights area. The equipment sometimes is broken, and I've noticed the staff does not actively check on these things or place signs noting that there's an issue (treadmills, ellipticals are usually the most common problems). The weight room staff is typically younger guys who are walking around talking/handling around the weights (not all of course, just a key few) and lay the free weight area is the smallest part of the gym and doesn't allow for a lot of people to use it (lets be honest, majority of weight lifters "hover" over equipment, making it hard to rotate in). I've had some recent issues with staff not showing up to schedule classes which is frustrating but optionally there are other classes in the same time slots if you're willing to change up your routine. read more
