Visiting a Habitat For Humanity is like a local treasure hunt with multiple hidden treasures. Building Contractors, DIYers, or your average home owner donates good building material to be resold at a discounted cost to provide funds to build homes for persons in need. Depending on the location and size of the Habitat for Humanity building/warehouse will dictate your good finds. At this particular location they had Low E window panes, brand new cabinetry, end tables, flooring, metric sockets and more. As always giving from the heart for a good cause feels good so if you do not need that extra furniture go ahead and donate. In addition, you can possible get a tax deductible write off.

This particular Re-Store is the one you go to for mainly: flooring, mosaic tiles, and doors. There is some furniture but most is pretty expensive for used furniture that you'd have to do some deep cleaning or woodworking. Don't get me wrong, they do have nice furniture like the newer couches that are crazy beautiful. There are just soooooo many doors pre-hung and just the door with or without the hole for doorknobs. There is also soooooo many different and upper scale drawer pulls and handles. Let's not forget they have days with deals that go from 20% to 60% off. Sometimes if you are lucky you can bargain a deal if you buy a large amount of items.

Left over new wood flooring. 50 sqft.

They canceled my work order because I didn't have enough hardwood flooring to donate. I thought I could donate perfectly usable (new in box) hardwood flooring, about 50 sqft. Who on earth rejects donations? This place. Don't bother with them.

HHFH sells donated or surplus items at a hugely discounted price to raise money for their cause. The day I went, they had tons of paint, flooring, cabinets, backsplash materials, lighting, sinks, toilets, rugs, safety glasses, and random decorative pieces (just to name a few). If you're remodeling or have rentals, this place is a great resource. Plus you're helping a charity, so that's a win-win in my book.

Good deal, drawing end of Feb.

Pretty surprise about this store. You could buy lots of stuffs for DIY here.. good pricing but sometime they might not have enough materials for your project... they have lots of ceramic tiles, wooden floor materials, etc... good Recycle paint, less $10/gal...

When looking at an item, two employees took the price tag off and then doubled the price randomly.

I was surprised to find out that I was able to order cabinets through Restore for half the price of the big box stores.

Everything is clearly marked, priced fairly, and the inventory rotates quickly. I love to stop by on their special store-wide 50% off discount days and check out their dish-ware and women's blazers sections. You never know what you're going to find which makes the visit all the more exciting. They also have a great system to donate items. Pull up to their donation truck in the parking lot and an attendant will assist with unloading your items and providing a drop off receipt if requested. Great service!

Used bikes shouldn't be $200 as that's ridiculous. A new bike would cost that much. A few of the furniture is outdated and not in a vintage way, but at least from the 80s. Some of it looks like pieces from popular furniture stores and they were unscathed. I did see a familiar piece of furniture that is up to date and since all furniture is currently 50% off, they are reasonably priced to sell. The staff are talkers so beware if you thinking you can casually browse without being spoken to. Staff members seem to like to follow you around just to spark up a conversation with you which can be annoying. It happened to my friend and I three times. Twice by one staff member who was strongly trying to convince us to buy an article of furniture and another time by guy who followed us onto the second layer of the store. I even noticed that did it to other consumers as well. The purse and shoe collection appeared to be well stocked with the selection being very nice from cowboy boots, running shoes, to leather engraving purse. Huge store.

It took me days to encourage this family member to use her local resources to get some help with a situation that happened to her. She even had a terrible suicidal episode that morning because of her PTSD from what happened to her. She finally took my advice and contacted this organization 24/7 hotline. She was laughed at on the phone and was discouraged from reporting her incident. The night shift "supervisor" scheduled her an appointment with a counselor on November 10th to receive some help. That's 10 days later from the date of the phone call. Is that protocol? Is that how you are taught to assist your community members? I decided to call the hotline to speak with a supervisor, but I was met with the same lady. She refused to even provide her name to me so I can properly report her conduct on the phone. I'm not having to stay up tonight to sooth my relative from her experience and encourage to still report her incident. I hope no one has this experience and I hope this organization is shut down for a lack of knowledge and care for their community members. One word, DISGUSTING.

After my assignment, I was told to bring the car load full of quality donations of children's books and clothing collected from homes in Bellaire (very affluent community in Houston). So I did. Or at least tried to. I walked into the main offices on Waugh and tho I was standing right at the reception window, 18" from some woman sorting mail, I was never acknowledged and it wasn't until another woman came in who was then helped before me, was I told in a dismissively contentious way that only new stuff was accepted. I wasn't asked if my stuff was new, despite 4 full boxes being exactly that, so I took the stuff to The Cottage Shop that serves The Women's Home instead. In addition, my mother tried to partner her non-profit Daughter's of the British Empire with this organization and attempted on 6 different occasions via phone email and letters to offer this group a lump sum cash distribution from their annual fundraisers which would have been over $5,000 but never once received any follow up. As a teacher in Houston ISDvery familiar with the social services offered to my students, I will never again attempt to work with or help this organization for its totally offensive treatment of me and it's disregard of cash donors.

I…read morerecently went on a tour of the facility as a potential volunteer and I was blown away by what they do. The Ronald McDonald House is an extremely low cost ($25/day) facility for families of pediatric patients undergoing treatment in the Texas Medical Center. The facility provides housing to patients who are undergoing treatment at several hospital including MD Anderson, Texas Children's, Memorial Hermann, etc... Priority housing is given to patients undergoing cancer treatment, but many different families stay here. This is so much more than a long term hotel. There are community rooms, computer access, playrooms, outdoor playgrounds, community kitchens, laundry facilities, and more! They even have special kitchens for transplant patients to store their food. Most days of the week, volunteers bring and serve food to families staying here. Best part of the whole place? The house dog, Mogie. Mogie was running around, playing with kids, and was putting a smile on everyone's face. Pet therapy is so important for patients and their families. Mogie was so cute, I wanted to scoop him up and bring him home with me! For $175 a week, a family can stay here, get free shuttle service to/from hospitals, and enjoy many free catered meals. I can't imagine how important a facility like this is when you are from out of town and your family is devastated by a life threatening medical diagnosis. I can't wait to start volunteering here!
