It takes a special kind of person to be a nurse. One who cares deeply about others. I've had my…read morethird child at Methodist Hospital. The other two were born at Methodist Medical Center and Willowbrook locations. Service quality has been consistently good for both child births. This is why we were keen on delivering at Methodist Sugar Land. There were several nurses at the Sugar Land location that went above and beyond - 1. Robin (delivery date nurse) explained all of the steps during baby delivery in a way that was easy to understand. She was patient and anticipated all of the things we would need prior to us asking. Her fun stories kept us entertained while she cared for us. 2. Maria and Lisa (post pardum nurses) were attentive, professional and went out of the way to ensure we were comfortable. The staff are professional and know their stuff.

Indeed, it is…read morenecessary just to get through the long wait on the phone to make an appointment, or to use their online scheduler. Then, there is the true ordeal over which to pray...paying the OUTRAGEOUSLY HUGE testing costs. Did I mention this is a non-profit hospital?? My horrible Methodist doc, Wade Rosenburg, called in an ultrasound for my gallbladder. Well, he didn't really call it in so much as I had to make my own appointment, then wait a week just for a testing date, followed by arrival at 7 am only to find out the orders weren't there after all! So, they called the doc to get them. Then, instead of the 2-3 days I was quoted for the results, it was 3 weeks! So, what, you may ask, did I get for my trouble? First, this most Christian of hospitals didn't like my $5K deductible, and demanded half down on the test to the tune of over $600. That, or no test. Nice time to tell me upon arrival. Talk about an expensive ultrasound! The results were inconclusive, so another test, a HIDA scan was ordered, or rather, not really because again said orders weren't found. Methodist called the day before, this time to demand pre-payment of 3k! Hubby and I went to the financial office that afternoon to discuss payment options. They wouldn't work with us beyond charging $2000. and paying the rest over 2 months. The rest, you might wonder, would total $3500. once the doctor's reading of the test was added. In shock, I cancelled the test and decided to call around other testing centers. After all, imaging centers are everywhere, so why not see what they charge? Enter Fort Bend Imaging Center. This FOR PROFIT biz's charge for a HIDA Scan? If filing insurance, $560. If self-pay, $260. This included a doctor's reading! My CAT scan was a mere $660. compared to $4K Methodist charges. A 10X mark up by a non-profit?? Begs the question just where all that money Methodist steals from their patients and their insurance companies ends up. Well, there IS that small little chapel and lovely bronze of Jesus...

Our daughter is currently working here, which gave us a chance to spend some time in the area and see just how massive this medical district really is. The area is beautifully maintained and enormous, with world-class hospitals, research institutions, and medical schools all concentrated in one place. I jokingly call it "the Las Vegas of hospitals" -- the scale, energy, and constant activity are remarkable. Overall, an incredible medical hub and something quite impressive to see firsthand. Parking is one of the main things that should be addressed for a large volume center. Whether you are part of the large workforce in the many hospitals or a patient visiting the clinic or ER, parking should be easy. Some of garages are designed badly (two way traffic in narrow lanes and lots of blind spots). It can routinely take more than 10 minutes just to park in a garage, on top of travel time in Houston. As part of the business, parking seems to be a large source of income. I have gone to several locations in TMC, and the cost of parking is $$. Some garages charge $5-10 for the first hour, but I never have been in and out within an hour. Most garages are $10-20 for an average, single appointment. If you have lots of appointments, just parking alone gets expensive quickly. In addition, public transportation in Houston is not a good option. While the cost of a bus ride is much more affordable, the time you need to spend looking up routes and the time spent waiting and getting the bus can be easily 2-3 hours, if you aren't already inside the inner loop of Houston. Since TMC is a large campus, you would think that there might a regular bus loop for the different parking garages and hospitals and other buildings. However, since there are several different, large healthcare groups, each of the groups only provides transportation services to their own group of buildings. Privileges for a student or staff for UT Houston and Baylor College of Medicine are completely separate.

Office is small, but kept nice and tidy. It is very quiet, and the receptionist is incredibly friendly. She answered all of my annoying questions, and even laughed at my repetitive joke. LOL. Pricing is very affordable - much better compared to other immunization clinics. Shameka is bomb. Like, I want to be like her. She was responsible for my titer and vaccinations - and let me say, I'm always hated by every phlebotomist I meet, because my veins are tiny.. and annoyingly hard to draw blood from. I warned Shameka, and instead, she was confident and made sure I was at ease and comfortable while she did it. She located my vein IMMEDIATELY and I didn't even feel any discomfort at all! Shameka made me laugh instead, making me less nervous and scared. Results came in the next business day via email and phone call - she helped set up my vaccination appointment and even provided alternatives since I was in a time crunch. From the past two times I've been here, I've been seen like 5-10 min right before my appointment time - which I greatly appreciate! When I came in for my first series, Shameka administered the vaccination and I was literally in and out. They welcomed me with a big smile, and remembered my name! Seriously, this is an amazing clinic with SUPERB customer service and incredibly affordable prices. Is it weird that I'm already looking forward to my second series?

OakBend seems to have deleted my Google Review, so here's it again. I came into Oakbend on Monday,…read moreJune 29th with severe pain in my pelvis and right side. They did a CT Scan with contrast on me, found a single ovarian cyst on my left side and sent me home with a Toradol prescription. Not even 3 hours later, I had my husband drive me back up there because the pain had returned even worse than it started after I took the medication and it had subsequently worn off. They brushed him off completely as he was talking to the front desk as I was in so much pain that I couldn't stand or talk for very long. One of the front desk ladies said that she talked to "a doctor" and they would change my prescription, 10 minutes later they gave us back the same bottle of medication and said there were no refills left. (I thought they were going to give us something that worked?? We never asked for a refill) My husband then decides, something is very wrong, and we go further up 59 to the Methodist Hospital near First Colony Mall. They immediately take me back due to the amount of pain I was in, I had to be wheeled in from the car. There was cyst on my right side that I did not know about, it burst and was leaking fluid and blood into my abdominal cavity which is why the pain got more severe, spreading from my side to my diaphragm and my right shoulder area. Not only did Oakbend brush me off as a patient and try to send me home after we returned a second time, clearly in distress, but they also failed to mention that BOTH of my ovaries had cysts on them in the CT Scan. Mind you, I have a blood clotting disorder and I am 5 months post partum from an emergency c section, but that did not seem to matter to Oakbend Staff. Disappointed is not even the start of it, I'm appalled that they would take a look at me returning within 3 hours in worse shape than earlier in the day and think it's okay to send me home, no checks, no questions, just take the Toradol and go home. Wow. I cannot even imagine if it was something life threatening that could have been happening to me, and they sent me home and I LISTENED. It's insane. Be careful going here, they just might do the same to you.
