A great organization that puts itself out there to save as many pets from euthanasia as possible. Volunteers work to get rescues healthy and run adoption events every weekend. Be sure and visit the website if interested in getting involved or adopting.

It took me a while to take the step to fostering an animal. But after much research I decided to go with Houston Pet's Alive. I love the work they do to save animals but what touched me was what they did for all the displaced animals after Harvey. I've fostered 4 dogs so far and thru HPA events found them forever homes. Such a rewarding experience.

My fiancé and I adopted one of our dogs, Chulo, from HPA in 2019. As someone who is now actively involved in the rescue community and has worked with many rescues, I felt the need to write this review about Kristen, our adoption coordinator. Kristen was so well organized, which is rare for most rescues we have encountered. She took the time to make conversation with us, ask us about our life and life plans. I knew she was vetting us to see if we were a good fit to adopt a dog, and I appreciated that because I knew that she would not adopt dogs out irresponsibly and had the dogs best interests in mind AND at the same time we never felt wrongly judged. We played with Chulo in a secure room while she called our vet, landlord and references. When she returned we talked more and eventually signed adoption papers for our new family member. He had not been neutered yet so it was a few days later that I was actually able to bring him home. Kristen kept in contact with me the whole time and prepared me for what I needed to do once he was home. When I was carrying Chulo to my car (he had just had surgery), Kristen and I were both crying happy tears. Chulo was so frightened and anxious, but we both knew that he was going to his forever home and would become a happy and healthy pup. She reminded me to register his microchip, suggested pet insurance, and followed up with me to see how he was adjusting. She was there with us through the whole process, which I am SO grateful for. Kristen is someone who deeply cares about the dogs at HPA and for that I have the highest appreciation for what she does for Houston's rescue community. I cannot think of a better fit for someone in the rescue/adoption industry than someone like her. Thank you for everything you do, and introducing me to my best friend, Chulo (who is not thriving and conquering his anxiety like a champ!) I cannot be more grateful.

Typical pet people--rude, weird, holier-than-though, and don't like being around other humans.

On April 11, I adopted a very sweet brown tabby cat through the organization, PetsAlive. I named…read moremy new cat Theodore and was told that Theo had been found on the streets and had recently had scabies, eye surgery and skin issues - all of which seemed to be healing nicely. I was never told of his extensive dental disease or that he had feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). I noticed that Theo's energy level seemed a little low, but he was eating very well and didn't display any signs of digestive issues. I DID notice that his breath was very smelly, so I took him to my veterinarian. The long story made short is that Theo will have to have several teeth extracted and his length and quality of life could be affected because bloodwork showed that he is positive for FIV. I have requested that PetsAlive take care of the dental issues Theo has since I can't afford thousands of dollars for teeth to be extracted. My concern of permanently returning Theo to PetsAlive is that his cycle of being an unwanted rescue cat will continue. His life could be one of going from adoption site to adoption site and never being adopted because of his bad teeth and FIV diagnosis. Please be aware that, according to my veterinarian, there are several no kill shelters that DON'T test animals for FIV or leukemia. Before you adopt an animal, please ask if the animal has been thoroughly tested for diseases that could affect the animal's health and wellbeing.

Kathy goes above and…read morebeyond for her dogs, that includes exceptional vet care for them (included all vetting even if they need specialists) She filters adopters because she wants her dogs to end up in good homes. I have never seen someone work as hard and diligent for their dogs' health and well being, she is an angel on this earth. Houston is lucky to have her! All the bad reviews must be from denied applications. To those people: -Make sure you are ready for a dog, they are lifetime commitments. -Make sure you can afford vet care. Vet care is expensive. If you complain about an adoption fee then clearly you are not informed on vet costs. -Make sure you can dedicate quality time ( walks , training spoiling) to your dog.Again.. they are lifetime commitments. I get it.. rescues can be tough and strict, they just want the best for the dogs. These dogs have already been through enough, they do not need more let downs. But if you are committed to adopting visit a local shelter! That is were the majority of the dogs in rescues come from. Lastly, the internet is a sad place where bullies can say whatever they want. Instead of bashing a person that clearly does great things for the rescue community in Houston, go do something positive. Volunteer or foster, its rewarding and you will learn rescue is not easy! If you read this review and you are in TX please visit the shelters ( always full of dogs) and volunteer, foster and adopt.

Don't get your hopes up like we did about getting a dog through her. You simply won't hear back. And don't even think about emailing her to ask, she'll immediately shut you down.
