2 of my children see Dr Rotenberg. He is amazing and really helped us when I couldn't get answers from other doctors. He found out what was wrong with my child quickly. I feel like he is a true gem when it comes to doctors. He takes his time when he visits with you and your child. Yes you do wait a bit of time sometimes but that is ok for the amount of care he puts into each and every patient. I have not had issues getting in touch with anyone. Where do I start. First, they are NEVER on time. Expect to wait at least 30-60 mins past your scheduled appointment before you are either taken back or see the doctor. Here is my experience: 1) Unprofessional. Never even talked to the actual Neurologist, only his NP. 2) Was told my son had absence seizures off first EEG. They recommend Topamax for my son. We had to go do a 14 hr EEG and sleep study just for them to tell me everything came back normal AFTER they tried to put my son on neurological medication after the first EEG. 3) NP never could answer my questions with ANY ACTUAL information, answers were always very simple and could be found in a google search. Came to meetings very unprepared and ALWAYS late. 4) The billing is horrible. They overcharged my insurance and myself multiple times. When I called to get more detail about EOB, the biller didnt seem well educated on what they actually were billing me or my insurance. 5) NO COMMUNICATION. Noone prepared us for the overnight EEG, which by the way is conducted in the most run down, disgusting "Motel 6" type facility. 6) No patient bedside manner. My son is 5 yrs old and you tell me he is having seizures, then tell me everything is normal. The emotional toll this whole process has been for me, my husband, and my son has been intense. I feel like after 3 months, 7 dr appts, I have less answers and more questions than I started with. NP made me feel like she was always in a hurry and unprepared for our meetings. 7) All together my son had 2 in office evals, 2 EEGs (1 hr and a 14 hr overnight), genetic testing, and multiple survey/tests and the end result is he is normal. Sounds and feels like a money grab to me. They charge you for documentation about your child's milestones that YOU fill out. Not only did I have to pay a copay for them to email me the documents (an office visit co-pay), but then you have to pay for them to review. You also have to pay for EVERY time you talk to the doctor. I paid for the EEG, but you then have to pay to get the results. We were recommended by two people to see Dr. Rotenberg so we gave this place a chance, the problem is you NEVER talk or see Dr. Rotenberg. I honestly feel like this was all a money grab. I literally HAVE NO NEW insight on my child at all. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND. THIS HAS BEEN THE WORST EXPERIENCE AND I ABSOLUTELY FEEL BAMBOOZLED. read more

I like Dr. Susarla, he is knowledgeable and has great bedside manner. The office staff is terrible. There is no follow-up, no one ever calls back, when you do call and finally get someone, they have no answers and are not helpful. Often I just need a quick 5-10. min dialogue with an expert for some information or to answer a question but they want to instead schedule an appointment for weeks or months out. Just an awful experience when you are dealing with a child who is severely sleep deprived. I am so frustrated with the negligence we have experienced by this staff. read more

I'm not one to usually do something like this, but I feel this is necessary. Several people recommended Dr. Rotenberg for child neurology. I got an appointment with Kara, the PA. Her? I had no issue with. I can't speak for Dr. Rotenberg himself, but his office staff is AWFUL. From day one, they've shown all they care about is getting their money. I could go on and on about this. One example is that I told them to charge my HRA account, and they told me, "we need money upfront." I told them that IS money upfront, and I'm not paying a penny out of my pocket when there is money in that account. I have paid THOUSANDS of dollars out of pocket, and money should NOT be your main concern when treating a patient. Secondly, I was quoted one price for a test & then called two days before the appointment and told it was going to be 2x the original price. I fought with the staff and a nurse eventually worked with me. But when my mom went brought him in for this test (which was inconclusive...), they said the person I talked to did not work there and did not acknowledge a payment plan. I fought with them and got one. Our last day there, my mom brought my son in for a simple walk in/walk out swab test that they told us could only be done there. She was WITH me at the last appointment when we made this appointment and we made it on her schedule with them. They sat there for 45 minutes & then she called me. They were refusing to let her take him in. She'd previously taken him to another appointment without issue, but if they needed a form signed, they should have asked for it upon our scheduling of the appointment. Also, when my mom asked for the form for me to fill out, they then told her "well, there isn't a form." Well...alright then. Then, they get my approval over the phone & next thing I know, she's calling me telling me that the test is going to be $3,000 "if" my insurance doesn't cover it. I said forget it. We were never told this beforehand, nor did they tell us about a hardship letter that we could do. They do not initiate this, but they did not even inform us we could do this. Then, my mom asked for a note for my son to go back to school, and there was hesitancy shown by the front office girl and the office manager told her to go ahead. When asked for the form to fill out to request our records, Rosie quickly handed this over. I asked for both doctors to call me. Kara called and was very dismissive of everything telling me all she could do was provide medical care. I was yelled at by Rosie, to which I told her she would not speak to me like that. Kara was defensive of her (they'd previously spoken prior to this phone call). I asked for Dr. Rotenberg to call me as Kara said she cannot do anything as it isn't her practice. She told me she'd let Rosie and him decide where to go from here. At this point, I got on the online portal and sent Dr. Rotenberg a message myself. (I have evidence of this, so do not try to respond and say this is the first you are hearing of this). I never heard from him. Unfortunately, my mom's purse was stolen and we no longer had the form for medical records request, so I was trying to call the office. I was originally told they would call me back. I saw the message was put in the online portal of my request, but never heard back. I called probably 15x today, throughout the day, and my calls were not answered. (I am sure they are screening my calls) I came home to a certified letter in the mail dismissing us as a patient, signed by Dr. Rotenberg himself. Completely unacceptable behavior by everyone involved at this clinic. If I could give less than one star, I would. *UPDATE 6/1/2020: they have fraudulently charged my insurance now for the appointment that was canceled in January.* read more

Dr. Rotenberg is a superb physician in every respect. The hallmark of a good doctor is possessing both superior skill and experience in their specialty, as well as demonstrating sincere care and compassion for their patients. Joshua Rotenberg is a doctor who is not only supremely qualified with respect to experience as a neurologist, but importantly he deeply CARES about his patients. My daughter has special needs and a complex medical condition. My wife and I are EXTREMELY particular about her health care and Dr. Rotenberg is a physician in whom we trust without reservation. Any review that states Dr. Rotenberg suggests tests or labs that are unneeded is misguided to say the least. Dr. Rotenberg is THOROUGH and takes the time with his patients to consider diagnoses and treatment plans that other physicians might not. When dealing with the complexity of neurology, often a physician will need follow-up tests to properly treat the patient. Neurology (especially pediatric) is a complex specialty and proper treatment often requires more than a quick office visit for proper treatment. If you are looking for a practice that will get you "in and out," then Dr. Rotenberg is not a good fit for you. If you are seeking care that is thoughtful, thorough, and provided by a talented and caring physician who knows "his stuff," then Dr. Rotenberg is your doctor. read more

This clinic is amazing. We have been using Dr. Josh for 3-4 years now and he is so caring and kind. He never talks over your head and spends the time you need to make sure you understand him. But enough about him.. His STAFF!! We made it to vacation without my child's medicine. I called at 8:30am in a panic after sending an email. Within 39 minutes I had a call back for pharmacy information. Of course not knowing all Florida Walgreens don't have pharmacies I gave her the nearest one. She sent it in and called me. A few hours went by and I hadn't heard anything from the pharmacy so she made calls for me so I could be ON VACATION. she found the nearest pharmacy, talked to the pharmacist and then called with all the information I needed, pharmacist name, address and phone number. When your child is sick, it is really easy to feel panicked and scared and to act like a Mama/Papa bear. We started seeing Dr. Rotenberg in 2015 after my son had a seizure in his 8th grade gym class. It turned out that he has epilepsy. Dr. Rotenberg and his NP, Kara Schmidt, have been wonderful to our son and family. We see them a minimum of every 90 days for care. Dr. Rotenberg's staff is caring and considerate, particularly his current nurse and the woman who handles testing. They all respond to my emails and portal requests, whether for general questions or sending medication refills. They get us in promptly for scans when needed or into the office for an appointment. It is surprisingly incredibly difficult to find a good pediatric epileptologist in Houston and I highly recommend this doctor. Kara Schmidt takes her time and shows concern and care for her patients. The "negatives?" Although I laugh at them, my son is not a fan of Dr. Rotenberg's corny jokes. :) Sometimes there are delays in appointments but I balance that with the time, care and concern showed to my son during his visits and am grateful that, in a world of 5-min ins/outs, this clinic spends the time to ensure my child is cared for. read more

I fail to understand how someone qho hinself has a special needs kids can be so into making money that he forgets all ethics. He keeps ordering tests and tests with no significance. The office keep trying to schedule unnecessary appointments to make money. Staff is really rude and does not respond unless you go to office with an appointment. He botoxed all the wrong muscles in my kid which made her unable to walk with assistance (She was able to do walk with assistance before he botoxed her). Extremely unprofessional when the health portal did not work. One of the staff Crystal blamed it on me that I was not logging in correctly and laughed at me. She was extremely rude! The staff told me this was my fault that it was my problem that the health portal was not working, and then the next day the reschedule told me it was due to the program they use. It takes a lot for me to write a review of a business, but when the experiences that we have had with the staff at Dr. Rotenberg's office have been as bad as ours, I can only try to help others avoid the frustrations in the future. To be clear, the treatment from Dr. Rotenberg for my son has been good. It is the staff and their belief in putting office policy over patient well being, combined with a lack of ability to be pragmatic, that has us now switching medical care. We've had multiple run ins with the staff but the most recent incident was the final straw. My son was denied his scheduled appointment, on a day that I took off of work early, due to a misunderstanding on the timing of his appointment. Yes, there certainly can be blame to go around when we were late to our appointment, but there was no intent on our part to be late. We had complied with the appointment window for what we understood to be the appointment time after driving the 30 minutes to see the doctor. Instead of trying to understand the situation and talk it through like adults, I had an office policy on new vs pre-existing patient appointment scheduling thrown in my face. Mistakes are made every day by people and simply taking the time to weigh the situation can defuse anything. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. Having previously worked in an industry where customer service and the customer experience is everything, I know that anyone who deals with customers face to face has the ability to make a judgement call to do the right thing. In the case of the medical industry, I would have certainly hoped that patient care would be put above all else and positively over patient scheduling confusion. Unfortunately, 10 minutes of misunderstanding has us now in search of a new doctor. As previously mentioned, this was the final straw in a string issues that we've had with the office staff to push us in this direction. read more

Other reviews are correct... The single "recommended" review is accurate. There is also a review buried in there that is "not recommended", but is also accurate based on our experience. He recommends superfluous testing (including a self-referral to his own diagnostic clinic that uses very aggressive tactics to schedule even if it's not in our insurance network). Test results included him COMPLETELY missing the one result that ended up being the condition our child needed treatment for (when we asked him specifically about the condition, he said "it was fine", however, it was found when another doctor reviewed the same test result). Also very condescending, is not open to patient education or challenging questions, and lacks any type of bedside manner. read more

Dr. Rotenberg has been our specialty doctor for the past 7 years and throughout our previous years we dealt with doctors who kept giving us the toss around. I have came to learn that no neurologist is perfect just like medications but Dr. Rotenberg took his time to tailor our daughters needs. I absolutely love Dr Susarla (Pediatric Pulmonologist)! He has great bedside manners! He definitely cares about his patients and takes time to listen! I met him during a frustrating and difficult time, as we worked to get my son's asthma controlled! What I remember the most is how I felt knowing that he listened to me the parent explain ....the challenges...and created an appropriate care plan! Dr. Rotenberg and his staff have been an amazing asset in the care of our son. They have gone above and beyond to insure we understand his diagnosis and treatment and assist us in providing the right paperwork to his school to get the support he needs. Even though we have just started seeing Dr. Rotenberg, we have been very pleased with all his staff, they are courteous and take the time to answer any and all questions that you may have. Some reviews have complained about all the appointments for testing Dr. Rotenberg wants to initially schedule, but I was pleased that he wanted to explore and evaluate all possibilities. We were sent to the cardiologist (my son had heart issues as a toddler), audiologists, ophthalmologist and 3 appointments at his office for developmental testing. I would rather a doctor seeing my child order too many test, than rush to judgment and miss something of significance. Yes appointments with specialist and testing can be costly and quickly add up, as a single parent I understand the strain that It can be on ones tight budget, but I do not mind when it comes to what is best for my child treatment and his future. read more

He types while he listens to you. One sentence from him can take two minutes to come out because he's looking at the screen, thinking about other things and saying um repeatedly. When he finally did voice his opinion, it was completely incorrect. He had not read the testing results accurately. He had not made a correct diagnosis. Avoid this guy. read more
