I was looking for allergy doctors through my insurance and Dr. Rihal was one that showed up under the doctors that were in the network. The facility, West Houston Allergy & Asthma was only 20 minutes away from my home, so I chose it. Making an appt was very easy. In fact, easier than most. I made an appt 2 weeks ahead of time and the receptionists were extremely helpful. They explained the procedures of what an allergy test consists of and how a patient would get assessed. And after making my appt, they asked if I had a computer and working internet so that I could easily print out the new patient information to fill out and just have it ready. I ended up faxing my new patient forms. I also called a couple days afterwards to make sure they received it. And surely enough, they did. I also made sure to ask how much my visit would be, because apparently an allergy test can cost up to $750. Ouch. I kid you not, it seriously costs that much. At first, coming to my appt, I was a little lost since there's like 3 medical buildings next to each other. There's St. Catherine's, Medical Plaza I, and Medical Plaza II. One way I knew I was at the right place, was that the buildings had the address on it. They are in Medical Plaza I. But walking in, I was still lost, so I called the office asking where to go. Again, receptionists were very nice and helped me in finding my way to the office. Came into the office, didn't have to fill in paper work cause I faxed it (WOHOO), and waited about 10 minutes in the waiting room. My appt was supposed to be at 2:30 but because I was a little lost, that took some time. I was called in, brought into the room and did assessments, such as getting weight, temperature, blood pressure... Etc all that taken care of and the medical assistants/receptionists were very gentle and nice. Dr. Rihal came in and greeted me. He was very welcoming and asked what my reason for coming in. I told him that I thought I was allergic to cats and he was very knowledgeable about what happens. He also asked if I had any skin conditions to maybe see what could cause my allergies. I told him that I have a huge spot of eczema on my back. And what I really like about this doctor is that he brought in a female staff member in the room while looking at my back to ensure that I would be okay and comfortable, since he was lifting up my shirt. I did an allergy test. I actually didn't get pricked, or had patches. I actually had this method used where they dipped a small tube filled with allergens and did a little scratch on both of my arms. It actually didn't hurt. It really just felt like a scratch. After they do that, they tell you not to scratch for 20 minutes, so that they could assess you on what you're reacting to the most. And let me tell you, I started reacting, and I wanted to scratch so bad. The medical assistants would check to on me every 5 minutes to see how I'm doing and then after 20 minutes, Dr. Rihal came in to assess me on what was happening. He explained everything thoroughly and informed me about all the allergens that could cause my sneezing, mucous, and itchiness. He gave me samples to take home to help see if this is the medication that would help. For my first appt, I came out feeling informed knowing what allergies I have and how to treat it. The staff at West Houston Allergy & Asthma were caring, gentle, and nice. You don't get that often at doctors offices, but at this particular facility, I did. I left happy and feeling pretty good. I have a 6 month appt coming up, you bet I'll be coming back!

They tested a basic 75 prick skin test. Didn't hurt at all, the painful part was when you were having an allergic reaction. The staff was really kind when working with them. Wait time was probably about 20 minutes but that's common for all doctors. Good thing is tests were covered by insurance. After they saw my results they gave me prescribed medication and the doctor gave me choices for future medication. He is very informative which I love most of all. Couldn't tell you the price of the tests since they were covered by insurance, so you should be fine if you have United Healthcare . Other than that I'd check to see if your covered, they get expensive.

I called around 7:30pm on 1/13 to check to make sure they were open and also to make sure they accepted my insurance. Both answers were yes so I made my way there. I filled out some quick paperwork, showed my insurance card and ID to the super helpful gentleman at the front desk. I was seen right away. Dr. Garcia was flat out amazing. I don't think I've ever met a more friendly, helpful and thorough physician. She was very knowledgeable and was able to determine my issue and come up with a medical plan extremely fast. There is no doubt that if I need urgent care again, I will ONLY go here. Stellar job!!!!

I attempted to call and make an appointment, after saying hello the receptionist placed me on hold for 12 minutes... I thought they forgot so I called back and was on hold for another 42 minutes... Going to a doctor is an entire experience, from the ease or difficulty of making an appointment to how an office looks and how easy or difficult check in is and the doctor and their bedside manner is the last part of it. Will unfortunately have to look for a new PCP as their staff was so rude and didn't even bother during that entire wait time to come back to the phone even for a brief moment to apologize for the long wait or give any reassurance that she will be right with me.

I came in for a physical exam, but we decided to change it to an acute appointment because I keep coughing and she was concerned about my cough. She eventually checked my lungs, ears, and throat and prescribed some antibiotics for my cough and congestion. If you're looking for a new PCP, Dr. Misbah Kalair is a great option; I definitely recommend her. I was able to easily make an appointment within the next day.

I also read Yelp reviews praising on Dr. Vu by a verifiable source. I was quite convinced to give this place a try. Unfortunately, the information was incorrect. The clinic accepts new patients by other doctors, just not Dr. Vu. But I went ahead made my appointment and wanted to see if this place works for my needs. My experience was sub par. My doctor rushed me during both first and second visits. I was particularly disgusted about how little care I received after discussing my lab results and trying to sell me CPAP machine. I felt like dealing with an used car salesperson. Majority of time we were talking about something I don't want. Then, I asked about a condition start with ST... but I can't remember the proper name from my other doctor's record. I said, "you can check the records..." I was told there were "too many pages... I didn't read them." and for the pain... "just take Tylenol for the neck pain..." Eh? I thought asking other physicians to fax my records was to know about my conditions. One more discussion that I certainly don't approve in a doctor-patient setting. I was told the owner didn't like about me posting photos of their facility online. (If you are the owner on Yelp or Google, you can remove the photos. I don't mind.) Oh, thanks for telling me during my office visit about your social media issues. Dr. Vu kept his easy demeanor, said okay, and offered solutions. He can handle my mom. I never see anyone win my mom. She can deploy a variety of facts and emotional expressions to achieve her goals. My mom is retired ICU and Psych nurse. Even though she comes from conventional medicine, she practices all natural for herself. When I signed on w him, I just grew more impressed. He is consistent in listening well to me, even calling attention to things I could get some help on (but not noticing its importance). This office feels what I think a wholistic office would be. I really appreciate Dr. Vu's gentleness. Acupuncture is here too. The acupuncturist is the best I've ever had. She is well worth the time and expense. She is phenomenal. On acupuncture: I was living in NYC when 9/11 happened. One of the major attributions to us New Yorkers weathering and healing so well from that moment and all the things that unfolded from there is acupuncture --it's mainstream there. Initially I started treatments at the Swedish Institute. Renown in NYC. A lawyer friend enrolled in the program. career changing to becoming an acupuncturist. He told me of his acupuncturist. I started going to that guy (who was always booked three weeks ahead). He is renown. Dr. Vu's acupuncturist is even more phenomenal than all my previous acupuncturists. From a car accident I have injuries to three cervical vertebrae and three lumbar vertebrae. The major nerve for the left side of my body gave me 24/7 piercing pain. I was told I will need a pain doctor and pain shots for the rest of my life. Dr. Vu knew that was not for me. His acupuncturist gave me weekly treatments that helped me function, and enough time to figure out how to move the discs back enough into place to stop touching the major nerve. (I am a yoga teacher, so I know some about the spine, and general anatomy). Thanks to CI Medical's acupuncturist I never even felt I needed to make an appointment with the pain clinic. Why is she the best? She is the best balance of determining the right acupuncture points to yield the most effective path to healing/treatment sans any minutiae of pain (on needle insertion). She is gifted, insightful, and sensitive. It's amazing she is here in Houston, Texas.

Then they don't accept insurance for rapid testing so that's another $75 on top of whatever your copay for urgent care is. Oh and they cannot give you an itemized bill after your visit. You need this type of bill to file the claim with insurance yourself to get refunded. Apparently you need to contact medical records for it... Funny how the people who charge you and take your money can only give you a credit card receipt and not an itemized receipt. All this is after they have you waiting 28 minutes from your appointment time. We called beforehand and were not told any of this. They just said... make an appointment online and we'll swab you in the car. As a comparison, we got tested before at another pediatric clinic in cypress and they were able to use our insurance, swab us in the car and were ahead of schedule so we were seen prior to our appointment time. We drove all the way from Cypress because our Montessori school called us today, New Year's Day to inform us that my son's class had an exposure and that we should get tested. You have been warned.
