This local business is iconic Tucson! Years ago I use to shop for unique vintage one-of-a kind finds at the previous location and now I just had the pleasure of exploring their new space nestled on the sunshine mile near numerous other great businesses. As I walked in, the manager greeted me and we chatted about the history of the business on Broadway. I immediately noticed their diverse jewelry selection, jackets, and locally made bolo ties from one of my favorite artists. I was especially taken aback by the prices! Most of their treasures were very reasonable ranging from in the 20's to 60's for some items of clothing. It really just depends on what you're looking for but, overall prices are fair. How Sweet It Was takes care and consideration with all their merchandise and really focuses on how special different eras are when it comes to fashion. My husband ended up buying me an 80's Bomber jacket for only 38 dollars! This is now one of my favorites! I highly recommend this spot not only because it has endless treasure but, because the staff is so kind and knowledgeable. read more

By far one of my absolutely favorite vintage shops and a must-visit if you're hitting Tucson as in my opinion, it's the best one. The owner, Crissy, is a total sweetheart and just an all around treat to talk to; Paul is total delight with a sharp sense of humor, so even if I don't find something, the engagement is delightful. They have a balanced selection of vintage with incredibly fair pricing and the new location is beautiful! I drive two hours from Phoenix for a day trip and they did not disappoint. This time I left with a sparkly 1940s dress suit set from New York and a cute chocolate structured beret, but they're were many goodies left behind! The time before that, I found my treasured 1980s Bob Mackie! So incredibly happy they take the time to hunt and curate so many special, wearable vintage pieces as well as being wonderful humans to visit with. read more

I was so excited to find a vintage store when I moved here and even more excited that they do buy. Unfortunately, they hang up on me twice when I called like they asked me to . But when I got inside the lady took took 2 sec and said..there was a stain on one of my dress (a dot) ont it while going through someone's else clothes that looked way washed out and old. Gave me such a bad taste. Mind you, I've been inside the store and looked at their clothes some with marks and stains. I don't know if it was because I was black but whatever it is, that was in poor taste. All my garments were actually vintage clothes because I got them at a vintage store myself. Won't be coming back here, I will take my business else were. I love my vitange clothes and will go where I'm appreciated and treated with care like my vitange clothes. The woman was very unfriendly too. She took one look at me and couldn't even pretend to be interested in my clothes. My black sisters and brothers, please take your business elsewhere. read more

HSIW has a special place in my heart. I absolutely love this store and have found myself buying more and more pieces from here as vintage clothing is typically better constructed than clothing today. I appreciate that the items/pieces they sell are thoughtfully picked - I hate to say it but too many vintage/antique stores are just crammed with garbage. HSIW is a pleasurable shopping experience - spacious, amazing selection, organized. Shop workers are happy to help with suggestions to, for example how to wear a certain item or how to care/wash clothing. Prices vary here - items can be as low as $5-10 or $100s of dollars. I feel the prices are quite reasonable; I would say most items range between $30-$150. One of my favorite things are the themed Sunday weekly instagram live sales (shop girls!). They started this during the pandemic and have kept it going ever since. I have always been into history and these live sales have actually taught me how to identify pieces from different eras. I know this educational bit wasn't the intention of the show but it has really elevated my knowledge on history (and fashion - I can now identify what historical fashion trends influence fashion of today). HSIW is a store with heart and soul. I recommend it to anyone who likes to thrift or buy vintage. Definitely worth checking out! read more

Enjoyed our recent shopping visit to this cute vintage boutique. Shopping during a pandemic is not high on our list, however, they currently offer a private shopping experience by reservation only where you have the store to yourself. It was wonderful & they had a very nice selection full of unique finds. They also offer online shopping & make it so easy to either pick up directly from them or ship to you. I love this store, I always find something I want. They have such a wide variaty of clothing, from diffrent time periods, and places. I love to buy dresses here, they have stuff you won't find anywhere else. The down side is they are a bit expensive, for a second hand shop. But really they have high quality items, I can't shop here every day, but once in a while its fun to pick up one or two great finds. read more

I love how friendly the service is, when you walk in they are ready to help you find what you need. In this case my teenage sister was looking for a prom dress and although we didn't find what she was looking for, it was sure fun trying to find it! Every decade of fashion is covered here and everything is authentic. None of those cheaply made costumes here, these are actual articles of clothing that you would have seen someone wearing in each respective decade. In the backroom they have really old costumes that you need to ask for assistance to look at and try on. The dressing rooms are cute with satin curtains to cover your back bumps. HSIW Vintage is one of the best curated, and true to era vintage shops in town! Often times when people think of vintage, they think of dirty and old... and this couldn't be further from the truth! The entire shop is completely well organized (mostly by era, but also by themes) and squeaky clean! I love the attention to detail on every mannequin, and seeing the styled looks they create! Their staff is also extremely helpful. I messaged them through social media to find out if they carried vintage pajamas for a pajama party I am attending this upcoming weekend. Not only do they have plenty in stock (and DEADSTOCK no less, aka brand new or unworn), they pulled tons of pieces aside for me around my size, before I came in store! When I arrived in store, they were prepared with around 10 pieces at least, for me to try on and ready to see if I needed additional help! Thank you for your awesome service, and helping me out. I found a beautiful baby blue set from around the 50's I believe, with a long sleep dress and a sheer overlay robe! GORGEOUS. All of the pieces are true to their era, and priced to match! All pricing is completely reasonable and reflects the conditions of the items. They are constantly having sales as well, so make sure to check the rack, I took home a couple $5 items as well! I went in here because a friend has a Hollywood glamour themed party coming up and we needed clothes for the occasion. I already had a dress, shoes, and a purse, and needed to shop for a waistcoat, tie, and hat for him. While he already has a suit, we weren't sure how it would fit him. After a while of poking around and looking at the incredible things, I did find a tie for him at a very reasonable $2. I didn't know if my husband wanted a bowler hat or a fedora and he has a big head, so that presented a problem. Now that we know his suit needs a bit of tailoring and fits just fine, we can see about looking for a waistcoat to match his suit and a hat that will fit. We will definitely be back for at least that, and when I lose a little more weight, I will see about buying clothes from them as I need it. read more

I end up browsing this store many of the times that I've visited, but when the weather turned cold this winter, I came by looking for a pair of warm boots. I managed to find a nice pair of tall, black leather riding boots in my size for only $35! (This is coming from a person who's tried on a million pairs of boots - only to be disappointed because I have narrow calves and small feet.) The store contains a very wide selection of clothing, that has not only been expertly curated and organized, but each article of clothing has also been loving cleaned and pressed, which creates a wonderful "pret-a-porter" experience. I am a half black and half white, my skin a beautiful brown, today while walking around downtown with my full white sister we came to your place of business to shop. I was followed around the whole time by a lady in a quilt skirt. I am between a sz. 2 and 4 and when I asked to try on a piece, I was told " well this is a extra small", ..(really) My sister and I were disgusted. Did I mention I hadn't seen my sister nor had she been to Tucson for 15 let me repeat 15 years. Great impression for the snowbirds,great way to represent small business. The only thing you represent is disappointment and ignorance. The sad thing was It was so embarrassing for you not me. I stopped off here for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Often, you look for vintage clothes and it will be at best a scavenger hunt. This place was quite well organized. Clothing had tags with the size and price prominently marked, as well as a one to two word description of the period the piece comes from (Western, Victorian, etc). Being a guy, I was looking for early 1900's style dress wear, and started off somewhat nervous to ask the nice, young, hip looking girl behind the counter for help. But I have no fashion sense, and wanting a look from a century ago, I was even more lost. Not only was the girl willing to help, she was a joy to deal with. And she was able to juggle my needs along with those of the other customers in the store. I think because of her attitude and willingness to help me out, I ended up spending more than I likely would have. That is the sign of good (and knowledgeable) customer service. They have excellent collections of clothes spanning back to I'd say the late 1800's, men and women's. The selection of hats was extraordinary, as well as all the accessories you would need to go with whatever look you were going for. Prices? Hard to say as I have no idea what vintage clothing should cost. But I came away with 2 very nice vests, an old-fashioned tuxedo-style button down shirt, with old fashioned push-through buttons (not missing a single button), 2 pairs of dress slacks, an old fashioned bow tie, a kerchief, and an old relaxed (Western?) style derby hat. All this came to about $130, with the hat being the most expensive item at $34. All the clothing is clean and certainly usable. They also have boots, dresses, wedding gowns, just about anything you could imagine finding in a vintage clothing shop. And there was a selection for every item. Just really impressed with the situation considering I was going in there without a clue as to what I would find, or even what it was I was looking for. They also do rentals for higher end, full outfits for those special dressed up occasions. Finally, being on 4th Avenue, it's nice to go to the one section of town where it actually feels like a cool metropolis and find something fun like this. read more

One of the best parts of Tucson is all the great affordable vintage shops. I am from Washington DC and vintage shopping there was extremely expensive, but I decided a while ago that I would only shop for vintage or used clothing. This is my way of reducing my ecological footprint and shop for cute clothes all at the same time! Did you know that fashion industry's creates greenhouse gas emissions of 1.2 billion tonnes a year? Yeah me neither, I just looked it up. I was really excited to explore all that Tucson vintage stores had to offer. My plan was to spend $20 or less on t-shirt or something small. When I walked it, it felt like I was walking into a 1950s' style boutique.The first thing that caught my eye was a bright pink chiffon gown and immediately knew I was going to buy it even though I had absolutely no use for it. I enthusiastically looked through other less expensive racks, hoping I would find something to distract me from the pink gown. After picking out a couple of items, the friendly sales attendant came over and offered to start a dressing room for me. I tried on a pink knitted sweater, yellow silk dress, and of course the pink chiffon dress. All three were out of my price range and all three did not fit. The sales attendant offered to take pictures of me in the pink gown and we had a mini photoshoot in the middle of the store. Sold. Honestly I am sucker for a good shopping experience and will drop mad dough on the most useless thing if I am getting good customer service. I went to the register to purchase the beautiful $50 ill-fitting pink chiffon dress. The sales attendant gave me a brief background/bio on the dress and the woman who owned it before me, a Tucson socialite. It almost felt like I was about to purchase a little bit of history. The dress was put into a cute custom paper brown bag, with some business cards. Overall, if you are looking for a fun vintage shopping experience this store is for you, but don't expect to leave spending less than $20 dollars. read more

Limited selection costume shop, no returns, high markup. It would be one thing if this were either a bargain basement place like Savers or a really good unique clothing store, but it's neither. A little treasure of a vintage shop in the desert! I stopped by this shop when I was on a day trip to Tucson to see the Broken Bells. I am a size 10 and found a handful of dresses to try on. I ended up buying a late 40s yellow and black sun dress for around $40. A total steal in my book! If I'm ever in Tucson again, I would definitely pop back in to see what they have.
