Avoid her for the following reasons: Irresponsible: Barbara neglects essential property inspections after tenants move out and skips final walk-throughs with new tenants. She has even been recorded saying, "there's nothing to walk through," when new tenants requested a final inspection, simply dropping off keys without showing the apartment. Unethical: She intentionally creates conflicts between owners and tenants to avoid lease extensions, boosting lease turnover and increasing her earnings by attracting new tenants. Short-tempered: Barbara frequently refuses to fulfill her responsibilities. When confronted about her unprofessional behavior, she responds with harsh language and aggression, which is unacceptable. Unprofessional: Her impatience with accountability, combined with forgetfulness, inconsistency, and language barriers (English is clearly not her first language), further undermines her professionalism. Dishonest: Despite her seemingly friendly demeanor, Barbara has a history of negative reviews from clients and even from her own team at Elegran. I never considered working with a broker before, but Erin was able to find amazing listings that covered her fee, which meant that I paid nothing more, but got her amazing assistance with finding my dream apartment. I had a very specific criteria that I was looking for with a low budget, but she still found me a variety of spaces to view. She also had fantastic knowledge of the areas, and was able to provide me with recommendations on where to live. She negotiated rents and security deposits on my behalf, and made sure that I felt safe visiting properties. Erin was completely transparent with me throughout the process, and really made me feel like I could trust her to put my interests first. She was incredibly responsive through text at all hours, and was able to get viewings scheduled quickly and efficiently. This brokerage does not have its own listings, and relys on pruchasing the right to use other broker's listings, and they therefore have only superficial informtion about the product they are selling. Lauren Schaffer at Elegran is sensational. We came in with our daughter to find a West Village apartment with just three weeks until her new job started. Lauren did a lot of rework so that we could be very efficient when we arrived the next weekend. We looked at twelve apartments on Friday with the intent to look at more on Saturday. There were only a few "no ways" among the twelve and we applied at the end of the day. Based on other reviews I think the service depends on the agent. Original post: I had undergone an apartment search for about 4 months in NYC and found an apartment I liked through street easy and the contact person was ***name removed***. He replied to me quickly and seemed to have a professional demeanor and reached out to me about 3 times while my move in date approached to make sure I was still looking. Obviously I ideally wanted to find an apartment without a broker's fee, but I had been looking extensively and ultimately settled on a beautiful apartment I found through word of mouth, but with another broker. Spencer called me the following day, again to see if we could start looking more in depth at apartments, and when I thanked him for his time and help, but told him I had found an apartment, he WAS SO RUDE and told me I SHOULD NOT BE USING ANY OTHER BROKERS and that 'this wouldn't have worked out ANYWAY' and HUNG UP on me. He also had an extremely unprofessional profile on Streeteasy for a long time. His profile states he speaks Spanish but he does not!. I rented an apartment and used Elegran. This process was painful, and every brokerage does a horrible job. Elegran eventually got me an apartment, but other than the showing I ended up doing their job for them. The broker I had was incompetent and lazy. She lost me my first choice after promising it was mine. The reason we lost it was because she failed to do her job, and never called the owner even though I was calling and texting her constantly to do so. I suggest not using a broker, but if you do Elegran is a horrible choice. They don't deserve a penny of the brokers fee I was forced to pay them, they didn't do their job, and they were totally unresponsive when they should have been agressive. I hear many complaints about how agressive brokers are, but at least agressive towards you translates to agressive towards the owner. Don't bother going to Elegran, just go look on your own because that's basically what they'll make you do. read more

Working with Ugonna Onyekwe was really fantastic. I was living in MA when I first started my apartment search so I emailed him about what I was looking for and specified my price range ($2000-$3000) for a studio / 1 BDR. I used to live on the UES but upon moving back, was open to living in different areas of Manhattan. He immediately put together an organized 20 page PDF of listings with large detailed photos, descriptions, and lists of amenities, etc. I was looking for an apartment in a clean, new, well-managed building and one that would have significant amounts of sunlight with granite/marble countertops, lots of closet space and a nice modern kitchen etc . I knew right away that we were on exactly the same page and that he understood what I was looking for. The listings were fantastic - I loved a number of the floor plans and ended up settling on a place proximate to my office in Midtown East. The studio I am in now is much better than the 1 Bedroom apartment I used to be in (in a co-op), although the rent is certainly comparable. The management in the building is wonderful; work orders I submitted through the portal have been attended to within an hour and at the latest, by the next day. The layout of the apartment is impeccable - the apartment is south facing and the huge windows flood the apartment with light. I do a lot of cooking and the closed-off kitchen (vs open kitchen) is a huge plus for a studio. Given the fact that I was juggling graduate school exams and applications during the time of my apartment search, I was relieved to have found someone who narrowed down all the options and filtered out listings to the absolute best ones available prior to me making a trip to Manhattan to view them. Ugonna was remarkably patient, professional, sharp and responsible throughout the process. He was easy to get in touch with, easy to work with, and really on top of things. He knew intuitively whether something would work or not and whenever I brought up a point, he really took the time to listen. I was unable to be in Manhattan to sign my lease and he took charge, conferred with the management office, and had them FedEx Overnight it to my home. The final authorization process for the building was quite convoluted and he was prompt about bringing things to my attention and resolving them. I was grateful for that level of professionalism and excellence.
