Not a bad location at all. This HoJo used to be a Best Western, and the property is evident of that in its size. In addition, the property contains a separate bar area (VIP Lounge) that has a few food items, such as salsa & chips, mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders, but no major entrees. Further, there isn't a breakfast option offered, which is a bit of a bummer. One upside though is that coffee is being refreshed all day by the front desk. For food items, you'll be better off choosing some of the local restaurants. The room itself is fine & cozy. The WiFi signal was strong, and the first floor didn't have the typical paper-thin walls. No flatscreen television here as of yet, so you'll have to get used to the old style of television here. The one major issue that I had with the room was that the shower tiles had mold within the bottom caulking, which I discovered the next morning. Major turnoff, which obviously affected my impression of the hotel. Not being too picky, but this alone has to change. Overall, the place isn't a terrible option when you consider other local options that may be few and far between in what is available. read more

I would never recommend this hotel to ANYONE ever. The girl behind the desk was the most vile individual I have had to deal with in a long time. Called my wife a bit*** several times within ear shot and her manager did nothing. The room was hot and the AC did not work. The bathroom was a moldy mess and the room just smelled funny. I would also advise that you stay out of the pool as clearly they can't get the chemicals correct and algae slime is growing. Doesn't the Health department ever come and visit? All in all the single worst hotel experience ever and I've stayed all over the world! P.S. The toilet doesn't flush... Oh joy of joys... read more

Regrettably, I travel a lot and have stayed in a large variety of hotels all across North America and this Hotel is in very bad shape. I would put it in my bottom 5. Needs a major renovation although, the bed was very comfortable and linens were crisp and clean and the staff were pleasant. It starts at the front desk, take a look at the drop ceiling tiles. They have so much water damage that they are warped and look to have been dipped in sewage, or something of similar color. Next, move to the rattling death trap of an elevator that has a sign written in marker to Not push the stop button. This elevator can possibly fit 3 people but with two of us I was afraid for my life. It did make it to the third floor though and when the door opened I was in for a treat. Immediately accosted by the smell of mildew which leads me to believe there has been a lot of water damage here. Immediately there was a large hole in the hallway ceiling just left open. I quickly headed to my room. The room was ok. It did not smell bad in the room but everything is just worn. The ceiling has suffered some damage, probably water, and the patch work appears to have been done by the local kindergarten class. The seems of the wall paper have curled and are beginning to peel which also happens after extreme humidity or water damage. I will not stay here again and will try either the Super 8 down the road or a bed and breakfast. read more

Bed bugs bed bugs bed bugs. 'Hotel' replied saying they had an independent inspection done and found no sign of bed bugs. I asked for a copy and they wouldnt provide. Do an online search and you will find that this has happened numerous times at this place. And with the same GM. If you still plan on staying here, I would suggest factoring into the daily cost what it would cost to prep and exterminate your home once you get back home. read more

Do NOT.... I repeat... DO NOT STAY HERE! I can't begin to tell you how much it was a mistake staying here. I was in the area on business last week and found myself checking in about 9pm at night. The front desk got me in very quickly without any mishaps from my reservation. I walked into my first floor room and was completely surprised at how dirty it looked. It's been decades since anything has been done to it. The bathroom was missing toilet paper. The bathtub and wall were in dire need of bleach. The toilet seat was ready to fall off just by looking at it. So, with that being said I called the front desk and asked to be moved to the second floor. Thinking/praying this just maybe a fluke. NOPE! I was very wrong. Since my reservation was already paid for I decided to take it and pray I won't have to take medication after sleeping in their bed. So, what I suggest to you is locate the Super 8 north of "Hojo's". You will meet fantastic front desk staff with rooms that are ready for the President Of The United States... if he was just stopping by. Hojo's??? Really? Who thought that jem up? read more

This hotel is disgusting. The kid working the front desk was totally baked, bouncing a large beachball around, when I walked into the lobby. We checked in and took the rickety and nasty elevator to our room on the 3rd floor. The entire place smells like dank Marlboro reds and pot. The smell of this HoJo's seriously knocks your socks off, and your socks probably smell better. The Denny's attached to the hotel is a mildewy and slippery dive; the cook came out looking wildeyed and disheveled, with long stringy hair and beard, and no headgear. The meatballs and sauce I ordered wrecked my gut, and blew me out. Additionally, the manager allowed a couple of the local potheads in to loiter around and use the nasty bathrooms. This place is a filthy dump. Stay somewhere else, or drive through and out of Norwich. I'm not kidding. DO NOT STAY HERE. read more

Outright a terrible establishment. We arrived in Norwich to do charitable work on the local fairgrounds. Our employer set us up at the Howard Johnson. From the moment we checked in the entire place especially the rooms wreaked of cigarettes and cheap deodorant/cologne. While we were staying there, myself and the majority of our members experienced brown water coming from the showers/sinks, stained "fresh" towels, room cards that had to be reset daily, nonexistent/cold coffee in lobby, bugs in the rooms, and a continental breakfast one might expect to find in a gulag! I could go on however, long story short save yourself from a very uncomfortable stay and go somewhere else. read more

I've stayed in lots of hotels and motels but this is one of my favorites.. We were able to check in early and they randomly decided to discount the price of our suite to less than $100.. Everyone is incredibly nice and it's very quiet.. Everything works great and the hot tub was perfect!!! read more

Can I have a negative star, rude rude rude staff, shower head fell on me while taking a shower, no top to the toilet tank and it rained in on our mirror light fixture in the bathroom. It was also raining in to the lobby. This place needs to be condemned. Gross and FILTHY. I would suggest the Super 8 down the road. About 1/2 the price and the people that run the place are just so nice. Clean rooms too. read more

We stayed one night in early September, 2012. We arrived by motorcycle, and needed a place to stay in town. The price was very reasonable, and the hotel was quiet. I've had to stay in so many places that were FAR worse than this one, so I'm a bit charitable. It's not like Norwich has all the major chains to choose from. read more

I used to work in this motel many years ago, it was very well maintained then! I went there this week, it was disgusting! Only one bathroom stall in the ladies room was open, the other 2 had signs that they were out of order! My boyfriend used the men's room and while he was standing there the bathroom door opened by itself! The whole place is dirty and in disrepair! Howard Johnson's should be ashamed of themselves! Denny's is the attached restaurant , the menus were dirty and the entire place was ill kept! Both places should be shut down, cleaned and repaired! read more

I've been staying here every year for almost 15 years. Nice little town. Price is reasonable. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Always had a restaurant and lounge on site although they were both closed this year for renovations. The pool was also closed for renovations. Bed is comfortable. Worst hotel stay of my life. Stayed here on military orders for two weeks. Included continental breakfast was empty every morning, I had to ask front desk to refill. Non smoking room wreaked of cigarettes and caused me and all my belongings to smell that way everyday. Staff was away from the desk over half the time i came for help. Almost everyday I had to come down from the third floor and reset my room key because I couldn't get in my room. Shower and faucets periodically had brown water coming out of them, disgusting. Stains on towels, disgusting. Permanent stain on toilet, what is it??? Wifi was incredibly slow. Pool which was listed as an amenity, closed. Restaurant that was attached, closed. Elevator would go to the wrong floor. Two days it didn't work at all. To top it all off my whole group was charged for a security safe everyday which we didn't use at all. My whole group and I left on our checkout day at 7am I was charged an extra day which I was not even in New York for. Recieveing backlash from hotel staff about getting a refund and the general manager currently refuses to refund or even call me. AVOID at all costs, do not stay here. A tent may be cleaner and more comfortable. I'd give this hotel zero stars if it was an option. read more

If I could give this place a negative rating I would. Stayed here and was overcharged for an extra day. The extra charge wasn't even on the bill, it was only discovered after adding up all the days spent here and realizing that a hidden charge totaling an extra day was billed. Management refuses to refund this charge and when called claims to not be available, anyone who has stays here knows this is not a busy hotel. Room was mediocre at best, door didn't close well had to be given a hard pull to close, chairs in room were broken and table was barely holding together. The pool shown in the pictures hasn't been operational for over a year now according to staff. On a good note the VIP lounge is conveniently located downstairs with daily specials, enough cheep booze makes any shack feel like a 5 star hotel. read more
