Horrible quality. I ordered a Large (not their largest size) pizza and an order of fried mushrooms. The total was $42! I picked it up and got it home to find out the pizza was undercooked and the mushrooms were salty AF, moist and shriveled up! I immediately called the restaurant and the manager WAS HORRID. He had a nasty attitude and said he could offer me 10% off my next order! Like me for real. I told him I would not be returning and yelled don't ever call here again then! Haven't been here in a while... guess we weren't missing much. The entire restaurant seemed dirty. Ordered fried mushrooms, cheese sticks, potatoes, chicken and two pizzas. Our mushrooms, cheese sticks, potatoes and chicken came out together. All were saturated in oil and soggy, cheese sticks were smashed and there was a hair embedded in the chicken. The food was gross. After trying to eat a few of the items we asked for our money back, before we even got our pizzas. The manager never apologized and only offered a portion of our money back. Dined in at this establishment w/family in November, food was great. Few days later, on credit card account, noticed a higher charge than the price of the meal from this establishment. Establishments system automatically includes a gratuity. Unknown to this automatic gratuity charge, a cash gratuity was also left. Reached out to the establishment about the situation and was told by the manager that the automatic would be reimbursed. Nearly 1 month later no reimbursement has been initiated. We wanted to have some pizza and beer while watching the game on Saturday. We walked in at approximately 1:00 pm. The cashier looked pretty filthy as his clothes appeared to be very soiled and covered in flower and other food. He was the cashier, cook, bartender and bus boy. I couldn't eat after seeing this and just boxed our food up and took it home. Tonight me and my husband stopped by Howie and Sons pizza for the first time. Here's how our experience went . So I'll start off with the food . We ordered the largest pizza you can get, The Big Howie pepperoni pizza, an order of hot wings, 8 piece potatoes, and an order of fried mushrooms. The girl who took our order was pretty nice and friendly. We also asked for ranch and jalapeños on the side which she informed us were free. We thought that was pretty cool because usually every pizza place you go to you have to pay extra for ranch and jalapeños. So we get our cups for drinks and go sit down. Within 10 to 15 minutes we received all of our appetizers. The potatoes were very delicious! We ate those pretty quickly, Then I tried the mushrooms, and those were also very tasty ! Probably the best fried mushrooms I've ever had from a restaurant. The hot wings were delicious too! They weren't the saucy kind of hot wings that normally pizza parlors have, they were more like deep fried with a crust and hot sauce was in the batter. Which I prefer that type of hot wing so that was great, they were very flavorful and the chicken was good quality ! Me and my husband were very pleased with our appetizers , so we were very excited to get our pizza. Now, let me just say that it's a Friday so they were a bit busy. Not extremely packed, but they had a good amount of people in there. We sat and waited for our pizza for a very long time.. we ended up getting full from our appetizers from waiting so long. Finally an hour went by and still no pizza and me and my husband we're getting extremely impatient. My husband went up and told the woman who took our order if she could just get our pizza to go since we were already full from our appetizers and we had been there for so long. She apologized and said yeah. So we waited for some more time and still no pizza. Probably another 10 to 15 minutes goes by and by then my husband was very irritated. He walked up to her to see how much longer it would be and her attitude had just completely changed. She made a face and was a bit rude and said our pizza was ready for a while and waiting for us up there at the counter. I don't understand why she didn't inform us that our pizza was ready when she knew we were waiting this whole time. She said she was waiting for us to go up there to get it but how would we even though it was ready if she didn't inform us ? Usually the workers are supposed to let you know when your food is ready. And it was kind of funny how her attitude went from being friendly to being rude, and although we were very irritated from waiting, we were still very friendly to her, but she seemed to be annoyed by us . We found that pretty funny, considering we even left her a tip, even though she didn't wait on us. Overall, the food was pretty delicious and the restaurant itself is pretty cool. There are arcade games for the kids and plenty of space. Very dim chill lighting, and a bar area . We do plan on coming back just maybe on a night that isn't so busy. Next time we will be prepared to wait longer. But waiting an hour and a half for one pizza is kind of ridiculous. I understand It was busy, but it wasn't that busy. There wasn't a line of people or anything like that. And I understand workers can get irritated too but instead of taking it out on the customer, maybe just communicate better. Communication goes a long way. No need to be rude or get smart because I'm sure anybody would be a little irritated after waiting over an hour for one pizza and then finding out the pizza was ready and just sitting there and they never told you :) read more

All the years of living in Visalia and I've only had positive reviews for this establishment, until last night. I sincerely hope it was an off night, but it was disappointing. The pizza was not the same, the crust wasn't cooked through, the crust wasn't made/shaped like before, I usually like the "sweetness" of the crust but it was over powering and the rest of the pie had no flavor. The crust edge was usually my favorite being thick to finish off a slice, but was just soggy from being doused in sauce. We had chicken and mojos also, and all were way overcooked and very salty. Service was also slower than in our past visits but we were told beforehand and were "ok" with that under the expectations we'd be getting our favorite pizza, chicken, and mojos. The service was Ok, last night, though maybe was understaffed or not ready for the larger crowd there. What's sad is we will be moving out of Visalia soon for a job relocation and this was likely our last visit. Not how I wanted to remember Howie and Son's. If I haven't said it before I'll say it now and forever. Howie and Son's is one of my top 5 pizzerias in the Valley. It stands out against competitors because of their consistency. Every time I've come here it has the same great taste. The pizza is off the chain. It's different but so tasty. The crust is soft and chewy. The sauce is sweet and the pepperoni is the right amount of crispy and salty. The chicken. Whew it reminds me of the chicken at Roscoes Chicken and Waffles. It's perfectly crunchy on the outside, but plump and juicy on the inside. Mix up some of their hot sauce and ranch and watch your taste buds explode into a waterfall of satisfaction. Yum. The mojos and also crispy and are well seasoned. Those are also scrumptious dipped into the hot sauce ranch blend. The salad bar is okay. I've only had it once or twice when I was too hungry to wait for my pizza. They also have a buffet which I'm pretty sure my stretchy pants and I have enjoyed a time or two. Service is decent most of the time and they have a great beer selection. Games are on most of the time so if you're sensitive to sound, better take it to go. read more

For me there are only two places in the valley that make a pizza so tasty that it will literally drive a craving so deep in me it pains me like a bad tooth!!! Howies and son is one the other is in Clovis (review to follow) The pizza is a cheesy toasty delite... sauce is sweet but not sugary more like a honey tone marinated in some how idk. Crust is buttery and crisp not crunchy.... toppings are as good as any..... but the combination of them all make such palatable flavor it becomes quite a unique pizza experience (at least I have not had anything like it) I really love this place not only for the food before the ambience it really feels like it's a mans domain but at the same time a charming Divey local hang out spot. Went to Howie and Sons today and had a horrible experience. I have to say that we used to love this place. I've noticed that over time, the restaurant has become dirty and the employees seem overwhelmed. During our visit today we found that almost every table in the restaurant was dirty. The tables were covered in food and trash from the previous customers. I had to clean my own table. While looking for napkins to wipe down the table, I found that all the napkin holders were empty. When I went to fill my cup with soda I found the soda machine to be dirty and the area around the soda machine to be covered in old syrup. We had been waiting for close to an hour for our order when I went to ask for a refund. While the manager agreed to refund our money, he seemed upset that I wouldn't wait around until they finished our meal. If I can say anything to the management and owners of this place it's the following: the public is now very informed about how restaurants should be run. With shows like Restaurant Impossible and Bar Rescue on television, we are now aware of what is not acceptable. Your place of business needs to be cleaned up, your employees trained, and get your menu streamlined. read more
