Went with family on Saturday night and was disappointed in management. I saw how they mistreated another customer when asked if they can put soap in men's bathroom. Lady employee mishandled situation and it escalated, all because of soap. Employees use the same bathroom, and if they have no soap to wash their hands and customers hands. How is that sanitary? And to get mad and yell at the customer was absurd. Management needs to improve and understand that in this business you need to learn how to deal with all sorts of customers and keep calm. read more

My first time there yesterday. Big place. Pizza joint vibe. Lots of stuff on the walls, old tables, classic bar top. So, off to a good start. Absolutely no people at Noon on Saturday. Our group of 7 was it. Took forever to get the bartender/slash pizza order taker to get us 3 beers and 3 Cokes. I should have counted how many steps she took going from her to there and every where. So that aspect was a 2 star. Got to 3 on the second round. Pizzas come in many sizes with the tin displayed on the wall. Nice touch. Efficient in the ordering process. I won't comment on prices because I have not done a pizza survey. I had the Garlic Chicken. Others had other combos. They seem to only be able to cook two pizzas at a time. Maybe only one oven is on at lunch. It would have to be quicker at dinner. I do note that people complain about the time it takes. My pizza was very good. The crust is a thin style, which I like. So not like the thick crust type. Too much bread. Lots of chicken and a good garlic sauce. So, the place deserves a 4 star because of the pizza. They can improve on speed. So, pizza is one of those food items that lets the place get away from crap service or atmosphere if the pie is good. It is good here, so go. read more

After all the talk I've heard from family here in town, I was expecting a lot better experience; grant it they were talking about the downtown location. Pizza was made sloppy and the taste was mediocre. At the price of +$25 for a large I was expecting Me-N-Eds, Mountain Mike's or Round Table quality of pizza. This is definitely not worth it. This review is for the Olive location! For the owners it's a need to update Google & Apple Maps, as well their website, because we couldn't find it! The pizza was fenomenal, just like their "original" location. Hands down for this pizzeria, best in Porterville! The service was great but mega slow, we were the only guests with other couple and took forever to get our food. First of all I want to put this out here as a caution for anyone ordering through Grubhub I was VERY happy to see Poor Richards pizza on a food delivery service because I hate having to go inside a place to pick up my food. I don't know if this is a glitch on the Grubhub site or what but I wanted to order the small combination pizza and when I chose it from the ordering selections it then asked me which topping I wanted. It would not let me proceed until I chose a topping and then it wouldn't let me choose more than one so it looked a bit confusing because the description listed a combination pizza with several meats and vegetables but then it made you choose one item. I went back to the menu to see if there was something else to do and saw that the price for the combination I had chosen was the higher priced pizza than the one two or three topping pizzas so I figured it was just a GrubHub glitch that made you choose one topping after you had selected combination. Unfortunately this wasn't the case and I received a one topping pizza that was more expensive than any of the others on the menu. Now as far as the food... I really really really wanted combination pizza so it's hard for me to give this a solid rating because it was not what I wanted at all but I will say this the crust is good airy and crunchy and pretty much what I remembered from way back in the very old days of Poor Richards. I can't decide whether I love the sauce or not it was maybe on the sweet side. Fair amount of topping. I think all in all I will give this a second chance but definitely not through GrubHub! I got a small one topping pizza for $20 including delivery tip. My three star rating is lowered by a star because of the order issue which may or may not be their fault but I did want to put it out there that that did leave an overall negative impression. Pretty good thin crust pizzas. Lots of pepperoni on 1 topping. Great atmosphere saw they are hosting a comedy show for 15-20$ pretty cool.

I grew up eating here and I never had a bad experience with the pizza. Although, the prices are excessive and the charge per extra topping is high. 1 large pizza and 2 small was over $50. But , I wouldn't go here everyday and pay these prices. Then it would have to be a pay day and at most once a month. Wait time is long to eat in at the place. Most people just carry out and take it home. I'm not local so that is an issue. The music they play was not enjoyable and very loud and having a conversation is hard. But the pizza is good and it's a good thing they have more of these places to eat. I ate at the Main Street location. read more

We are newer to town and heard great things about this place. My husband ordered 3 pizzas and a salad through their app trying to give me a relaxing cooking free night off. They dont tell you that it's delivered through Door Dash until after you order. We ordered at 3:30 and it came around 5:15. The door dash driver just dumped the 3 pizzas on our doorstep without knocking and sprinted to his car. I saw him and followed him out but he was in his car and sped off. We called to just ask for a refund for the salad we didn't get but as my husband was on the phone with them I noticed the pizzas were ice cold. The girl on the phone told us we can just have a credit for next time for the whole order, but why would we subject ourselves to a next time. She said she would contact her boss to see IF they will refund us because no one working at the time can do it. I ended up just microwaving our pizza but nothing could have made it taste good even if it was fresh. All their toppings just fall off their rubber cheese. Their chicken is clearly just the frozen strips out of a bag as they taste freezer burnt. Will not order again. read more

Leaving a review for a friend. She ordered three pizzas and a two liter off their website, about 40 min later a door dash driver (unexpectedly) shows up explaining they couldn't see the order? So she gets a 20 oz instead along with her $100 order. All pizzas tasted cold and not good she said and she couldn't understand why they didn't just call her to confirm order if they couldn't read. Basically these new owners need to step it up and provide the best pizza and service in the community because the competition grows each day and I even prefer to drive to Tulare Indian pizza for my pizza! Why not try to have good rotation of different toppings these other places do not provide? Push the envelope since you have enough cash to develop two more locations simultaneously, rooting for you but not excited by this news. EDIT: after reading other reviews it's clear these business "owners" have no idea what they are doing. The carpet smelt like urine back in 97 and seems like it still does. I predict all three locations will close and this entire place a huge waste of time and money for everyone. Learn to make pizza at home! I originally was going to try this place and had two stars here but I won't and have moved it to one star. read more

I love this place but new owners need to figure out a better system. I use to work in a pizza restaurant. Appetizers always come first. I was here for over an hour, paid my tab, and I was still waiting for my appetizer. No apologies on the late orders. Customer service needs to improve. Be courteous to your guest and sympathize when they are waiting a long time for an order. read more

This is for the restaurant on Olive. I don't really recommend eating at this Poor Richards Pizza, on Olive, in Porterville. When I ate there with my mom, we were starving and craving pizza. You know that when you're starving, everything just hits even if it's not that good, well this pizza was still not even good under the influence of being super hungry. The crust of my pizza was so incredibly thin that I felt that I was eating a cracker. I did not like how my pizza tasted and on top of that they took forever to bring out our pizzas and we were the only people in the restaurant. I don't understand why it took so long if we were the only people there and I saw they only had like 1 or 2 people picking up orders. I'm also a person who is not picky with my pizzas but this was by far the worst pizza I ever ate. read more

THIS IS FOR THE OLIVE LOCATION I just want to say I would 100% give this place my money over any other pizza place in the area! If you like pizza that tastes like it's made in a brick oven, this is it! It was crispy and juicy and just all around delicious! The sauce didn't give anyone in my family heart burn (which is a common thing for them at other pizza places) not to mention the staff was very very welcoming and inviting, and friendly. These people know how to run a business. I'm sad we don't live in the area or we would be here so much more often! I do have 1 suggestion though, cook your wings a little bit longer, to ensure they are fully cooked. The garlic bread cheese sticks we f-ing delicious! I could eat just those and be so satisfied! This place should be called "POOR CUSTOMERS". As soon as you walk in the dirty old worn carpet smell hits you. Dark dingy dirty overall. As a local establishment I try to give the benefit of the doubt and support the businesses. This place I can't. This place if I could give negative stars I would. Normally we go to "Ed's pizza" but wanted to throw business to this place downtown. Wish I hadn't. Pizza if you call it that is half way between a burned saltine cracker and communion host. Their menu has a few set pizzas ie Hawaiian Combo etc. with zero descriptions of what they consists of. The pizza sizes are smaller than average starting with a micro pizzas size then up so all the pizzas are smaller than average. The pizza was the absolute worse. A frozen $1 store pizza would have been better. Burt, no crust, crumbly, disintegrating, as you "TRY" to eat it. No crust. My friend ordered chicken wings $25!! For 10. I thought damn these better be the best wings (I don't eat wings). They were under cooked and one bite of one that was a waste of $25. Oddly they came with tater tots (odd) and I tried two and tasted old freezer burned and nasty. Overall $80 for two pizzas and wings. Note no drinks as we forgot to order them and my friend paid for two sodas and a beer that pushes the meal over $100!!! I almost thought this was some sort of weird prank and I was being pranked on a show. Horrible horrific expensive disgusting experience. An added bonus was the large party near us (forget Covid concerns) with @10 kids running like a playground consistently between the old dirty game room and their large center tables. It was literally like eating at a dirty playground. Never ever ever again. I give mostly 5 star reviews and keep quiet on so so places. It is always delicious here! The new look and atmosphere is just what the town needed! Pizza and fresh salads are great, the wings and tots are oven baked, crispy, and delicious dipped in their homemade ranch dressing. I really like Poor Richard's but be forewarned, the service is often slow. The establishment is in a old building on Main st with and old wood floor. The decor is really eclectic and old and almost has a macabre feeling. The gigantic wooden bar is an awesome spectacle and is rumored to have been Al Capone's (I have yet to be presented with any evidence of this though). The pizza is not cheap but not too expensive either. It is on a thinner style crust and the sauce is a great compliment to the crust and high quality toppings. If you are looking for something a little different than your regular pepperoni pizza I reccomend the Mexican pizza with chorizo. If you are not hurried I recommend giving Poor Richard's a try. read more
