Howie's currently is a troubled business. On the verge of closing and the new owner after 10 months has been looking for a buyer. It was a happy fun environment similar to "Cheers". But lately the environment is toxic as the conversation and sarcasm is not healthy. Currently every other day it has been lacking food or supplies which are the locals favorites, and many times we support them by going with what they have in-house. Ducked in to grab a tasty treat for lunch as the Jag was next door being tinted. Meh. I had the "special" fried grouper sammy with "seasoned" fries, and a cold beverage (Sprite) and it was all just about as plain and unremarkable as it could be. The seasoned fries were as regular as regular fries can be. The sandwich was DEEP fried. It tasted like fried crispiness. I think they were grouper fingers, too. It was not a filet. It had no flavor. Fail. My Sprite was good. Served in Styrofoam. Not very Earth friendly. I sat at the counter and was treated to a new trainee waitress. She needs a lot more training. The place is busy, perhaps because of value (it is inexpensive) or perhaps I didn't order the right thing? After reading other Yelpers reviews it appears I didn't order the right thing. First time ordering Howies because I see a lot of people in my office ordering their salads. I was in the mood for a sub so I ordered the Italian footlong that came with a side (potato chips) online. There was an option to have it toasted or pressed, I usually like my subs to be toasted like they do at publix to warm up the meats cheese and bread and then after throw in the veggies so I went with that option (it was 79 cents to get it toasted) well when I received my sub it had clearly been pressed with the veggies inside, warm pressed lettuce on a sandwich is not ver yummy.... I basically paid extra for this and my total had come out to $17.99 including delivery. My sandwich was packed with meat and the delivery was very quick however I was not happy that they had pressed my sandwich with the veggies inside when I had not asked for that.. read more

It's been around for over 20 years. a tiny sandwich shop that serves delicious subs, wraps, salads, and soups. I usually go there for their Spicy Fajita Chicken wrap.. Its a bit hot but its definitely one of the best sandwiches you can buy around the crummy side of Hallandale. They also have a SUPER friendly staff. by the second or third time you're there, they already know you by name. That's a plus in my book. Right now the construction makes it hard to get to if you're heading north on 441 but if there's a way to cut through..do it..Howie's subs are definitely worth it! read more

I was highly disapointed they didnt have poached eggs. How are you a breakfast place and not sell poached eggs?! Soo sad. And the scrambled eggs were 'meh'. The veggie croissant was great though. If i go back again i will get that. I got it deliver and it was very fast, and they didnt bang down my door like the police which is always a plus in my book. So I've had my mishaps w/ howies and my office stopped ordering from there for a while. Until one day someone ordered there and it just continued! I myself ordered from there once again; even after the "green mold" incident on a corner of the bread... well... I made sure to inspect very good this time but let me say; food was good. It's a "home-y" place, I've been ordering there for years and so had the business, they had a slip up which is true but still for he most part they do pretty well. Horrible, waited 2 hours for a breakfast order to be delivered no more then 7 minutes away. Then they had the nerve to ask if I wanted a credit for there store. HELL FUK NO!!! like I really want to chance dealing with a similar situation. They answer the phone yelling and with attitude as if they cant handle the phone calls, and then they lie to you every time you call to check on the status of your food by saying its on its way.... YA RIGHT, its been on its way for TWO hours GTFOH!!!! This is a fantastic diner / deli establishment. With a tremendous delivery business to the local area. They carry boars head meats and cheeses, great breakfast sandwiches, salads and more. Terrible customer service! The food is good and my boss has a standing order with them for breakfast, so trusting him, I've ordered here myself twice. First time the woman on the phone asked me for my card info about 4xs until she could hear the frustration in my voice and said thank you. The second time was the kicker I had an errand to run on lunch so I decided to call them at 10:30am (AMPLE TIME) to get my lunch before noon(mind you I'm only about 2 or 3 miles away). I was told I would receive my food in 45min-1 hr. I was patient for the first hr. once that passed I decided to call and check up on the food, the person on the phone told me she didn't know what was going on and she would call the driver, I didn't receive a call back. when I noticed 12 pm was approaching I called back and told them this is unacceptable and if there was an issue with the driver to let me know. The young lady but her boss/owner on the phone and he proceeded to tell me I was wrong about the time I said I called the order in. I was so upset and after going back and forth I told him you have terrible customer service, he then said he would call me back and when he did he said well she was stuck at another location and I said a courtesy call would be helpful. by that time I already left and he said WELL SHES THERE NOW WHAT DO YOU WANT HER TO DO WITH THE FOOD. I said what do you mean I already paid for it over the phone with my card. He had no empathy and could care less, from that day I never ordered there again. My friend did warn me about the way they treat certain customers and I should have listened. guess that's the world we live in. read more

This place has terrible customer service.They do not care about customer loyalty or delivering your food in a timely manner. For the past 5 months, my co-workers (McNicol Middle) and I have been ordering form here two times a week, at the minimum. And every other week there is something wrong with the order, but realizing people make mistakes and being a teacher (that cant leave to get lunch) this is a convenient place to order from. Their peak time, like most restaurants is during lunch time. You'd think they would properly staff and be ready to handle the influx of orders. They are not. The day prior to this happening I ordered a philly sub, lets just say there was no meat on the sub (so little that I had to separate the bread to find the meat)....Sonny's steak shop always has the meat falling out and over. That same day I ordered salad, they forgot the bacon and cucumbers. The next day I order (2)10 piece chicken wings and fries at 11:15. I was now 12:30 (mind you this place is less than 8 mins from my job) and still no food. I do not receive a courtesy call or anything. When I called to inquire about my order they said it was getting ready to leave soon. I asked to speak to a manager, I was told there was none. I asked to speak to someone besides the girl taking the orders, at that time the OWNER got onto the phone. He was unpleasant, rude and unwilling to rectify the situation of acknowledge fault. He suggested that I call at 10am to get food delivered by noon (complete foolishness), he also told me "I am not in the business of giving food away". Mind you, I never asked for free food, but I did ask for my food to be delivered in a timely manner and without an attitude. Please do yourself a favor an eat elsewhere. read more

Such a great group of people that work here. The lady who answers the phone is always so polite and professional. She is excellent. The delivery guys are good people too. Always smiling and they are pretty fast. I just ordered a tuna melt with provolone cheese and roasted onions and mushrooms and ... oh...my... blessed are the hands that made it. I ordered from Howie's everyday as did my co-workers until they started screwing up the orders. For some reason because they are delivering the food they can send you what they want. How hard is it to toast the bread rather than sending it with buttered smeared on it? I'm done, I refuse to pay for incompetence any longer.
