Paws down, my pup's favorite place to romp and play while I'm busy with the work-long day (and sometimes overnight). I've been referred to Howliday Inn by more than one trustworthy folk and have had only professional and kind interactions with Dylan and every member of the entire team. I was super impressed when we first started to get a very warm and through introduction and tour and could tell just how much care and thought goes into all the details of this operation. During one daycare day, my pup went through a little (non-contagious) health episode and started showing symptoms while under the care of this watchful team who called me right away so that I could get him into the vet. We have enjoyed both daycare and boarding services and each have been positive. I always appreciate hearing updates about behavior observations when picking him up at the end of a day--truly demonstrates how much attention is paid throughout the day. Grateful for the entire Howliday Inn team and the loving and dedicated care they provide my best fur bud when I'm not able, and in ways I simply can't related to socialization and other dog play! read more

If I can't be with my pup, Dylan and crew are the ONLY ones I trust with her care. They are positive, attentive, communicative and kind. We started with Howliday in daycare in 2014 with our Irish Terrier: outgoing, rambunctious and not always interested in following directions. Now we have a gentle, English Springer Spaniel who boards now and again. While Dylan took over from Daniel and Pam a few years ago, the culture and community are unchanged. I was traveling in Japan and left my 8 year old Labradoodle, Izzy at Howliday Inn. She had stayed there many times before. Unlike many other doggie daycares, Howliday Inn does not have the option to log into a webcam livestream to check on your dog. Furthermore, when you drop off and pickup your dog you never even see the environment where the dog stays. You wait in the lobby while they go behind closed doors and get your dog. I always thought that was a bit strange but I didn't see any other red flags. Well, this time I got a text from my son informing me that he had to go get Izzy. He got a phone call and they told him Izzy got in a fight with another dog and had to leave. This was shocking, as Izzy had never been in a fight or hurt another dog or person in her entire life. My son told me the other dog had to be taken to the vet, and Dylan, (the owner of Howliday Inn) wanted to speak to me in person after I returned from Japan to explain everything. I was shocked that they kicked Izzy out while I was on the other side of the planet, but I planned to deal with it after my trip. The next day I received an emailed invoice that simply said "Hi David, please find your latest attached invoice. Thanks, Dylan (Owner)" The invoice included $542 for veterinary care. Since my son had told me Dylan wanted to explain everything when I got back, I ignored the invoice. 2 days later (while he knew I was still in Japan) he reached out again by email to request immediate payment, and this time offered some details. According to him, the other dog was pawing at Izzy trying to get her to play and she didn't like it. She snapped at him, he snapped back, and Izzy then pinned him against a wall which resulted in "a small puncture wound" above his eye. Normally you don't got to the vet and get stitches for "a small puncture wound" but that's what they decided to do. Since my dog had NEVER been in a fight before, I have serious doubts about his account. I wonder if the dogs were even supervised. For all I know they found the other dog with an injury and picked someone to blame it on. I asked if they had video of the incident and of course the answer was no. While other facilities are so transparent they allow owners to log into a livestream, this place is so secretive you don't even get to see your dog's environment when you drop off or pick up. And they don't even have cameras to record in case an incident occurs. And if God forbid your dog does run afoul with them somehow while you are traveling they will call your emergency contact and tell them to come get your dog! Also, they forgot to give my dog's food to my son when he left his job to get her. This necessitated a return trip by my brother in law to get her food. The staff member he spoke with at that time told a very different story than the one I got from Dylan. That staff member said it was a "freak thing" that happened as Izzy and the other dog were trying to fit through a small passageway at the same time. Dylan has informed me that Izzy is no longer welcome at Howliday Inn and that's just fine with me because after this experience, I would never trust them again. read more

My dog did daycare and boarding services here regularly in fall 2023. My dog is high anxiety and needs a lot of help adjusting to new environments and people. After a few times here she did not even hesitate to run into the back without a glance back at me! What I like: 1. Great staff - my dog is a good judge of people and and she loves the staff 2. Easy online booking system 3. Outdoor space - my dog does much better if she can be outside 4. Sensitive to dogs' needs - my dog needed to be coaxed to play and get comfortable. read more

We have been long term clients since the early days of Pam and Daniel and the location off Hawthorne. We trusted them then and feel the same now with Dylan and his crew. Our girls come home happy and tired. One of our girls is deaf and the team always knows this when we drop her off and she always come home happy. We have not used the hotel services that often but if we were in need we would feel very comfortable leaving them there. They take great care of our girls, if Dylan finds out about an illness in one of the dog pack ; they are REALLY great with communication around that. We have Never seen signs of other dogs being too rough nor have we every seen fleas, they don't smell like a kennel when we get them . But the best sign that they like going there is when I am driving there at about a mile away they know and are up on the doors and at the windows of the car excited to get there. They are always happy to go in - always content when they exit. We live about 30 minutes from the location and we still take our girls to them! read more

My dog suffered what appears to be a bite in their care. The dogs are supposed to be videoed and monitored 24/7 when not in their cages. The response from the manager was immediately defensive and accusatory and she said it twice: "IF this happened at our facility" though I reported it on my way home and was given guff for calling and emailing twice trying to reach them before they left for the day. (No one ever answers the phone there. They screen every call so you don't know if they're not there or just busy at the moment.) I wanted to know what had happened so I could have it treated appropriately, particularly if it needed to be treated by an after hours facility as where I live (an hour away) there are none. Responding to me the next day the owner told me that he needed a picture to decide if the dog should be treated by a vet. I told him I was just about to send that picture but it is not his decision of whether the dog will see a vet. I just needed the full information to know if I and/or the vet would decide that to be necessary. (I would not put my dog through the trauma of shots much less the wound reopening for inspection that the vet determined necessary (due to the lack of information I receive from Howliday Inn) he did get if that could conclusively be determined to be unnecessary. Instead of information, the owner continued for at least a half hour of backpedaling and speculation on things like my dog looked like he wanted to mount another dog if he were physically capable (he's 12) and that energy could have been why he was bit if he was, that there is a fence that they've tried to mend unsuccessfully that sometimes knicks the dogs. What I found most disturbing about this interaction in which the owner ultimately insisted that he didn't know what happened but whatever it was it wasn't the bite it appeared as and in addition to the victim blaming was the lack of an an offering to continue to look at the VIDEO to see what did happen so I could know whether my dog needed emergency treatment over a bite or if the cleaning that appeared to have been done would suffice. You can't review five days of video footage in the two business hours he "dedicated" to it and it was made clear I would be given business hours only. Defense of the manager's immediate response as merely a "poor choice of words" rather than an inflammatory and accusatory statement was also disturbing to hear from the owner. His offering to release payment for the service as a peace offering indicates he just doesn't get it. Accidents and mistakes happen but when they do you need to be able to trust that the situation will be handled appropriately instead of swept under the rug. The defensiveness, absurd and unsuccessful attempts to blame me and my dog to see if the arrows would stick and actually accusing me online in another forum of not being concerned about my dog's welfare but out for money has me upset enough to post another review (because reviews and new business are I've found out all the owner cares about; I was not going to get a same day response until I offered to post one). Beware. I touted this facility left and right before this happened and I could not have fathomed the inappropriateness and ineffectiveness and focus on liability over outcome of the response once it did. The owner also felt the need to mention that my dog had not been there in a year as relevant to the situation. I'm not sure how . Maybe only frequent flyers are important. Maybe they were looking at his records trying to find a more valid reason to blame my dog for what happened to him rather than review the tape to find out what did happen to him. Ultimately in his unapologetic response elsewhere he ended with a claim that they have appreciated looking after my dog for "all these years" (2 not counting the year since he's been there) but were cutting me lose bec "words matter". (I had the audacity to tell them "well he didn't go to space camp in between my picking him up and getting him home" when the manager offered that it may not have happened at their facility. Apparently the truth hurts but probably not as much as a puncture wound hurt my dog.) I honestly think all that matters to this guy is winning an argument and we're likely to see a repeat performance here. It wouldn't fit in the word limit there but I would like to note that I cut them loose as I warned the owner I would in am email preceding our conversation if he refused to hold the manager accountable for her dismissive and insulting statements. So he flat out lied about that and who knows what else. Regardless, no matter how many years have passed before your dog sustains an injury that is unreported to you, it's always unacceptable. That the facility where it happened is dismissive of it is reprehensible. Actions and accountability matter. read more

Let me start by saying the folks here are wonderful. They love the doggies, they are knowledgeable and they are kind. And my doggie loves it here! Our dog was supposed to be boarded for a few nights at Howladay Inn starting on a Friday, but unfortunately, we had to cancel with less than 24 hours (only by a few hours, BTW) because she had gotten something in her foot on a walk & wound up w/ an infection. I noticed her biting and pulling the hair out of her paw on Wed. night. My husband made an appt. at the vet for her the following morning and we were told she could not be boarded that weekend & we couldn't even walk her for at least a week. I called immediately on Thursday early afternoon to explain the situation & to cancel, and my husband did too via email as soon as we knew. They still charged us $50 for cancelling. As a business owner myself, I understand the need for a cancellation policy. I have one in my contracts too. However, I've never used it. I recently had someone cancel on me when I was already in the car on my way there to facilitate a music therapy group, but I didn't charge them the cancellation fee because sometimes unexpected shit happens that cannot be avoided and I totally understand that. I'm just disappointed that Howladay Inn doesn't. As I mentioned in the beginning of this review, they are awesome & my dog loves it here, for day care and being boarded. Just be prepared to be charged the full amount if you call even 23 hours ahead of time, regardless of the situation. read more

They are very gracious in dealing with our many questions and frazzled demeanors that we have as we are getting ready to leave on trips. What Howliday Inn? You want me to bring my dog in for a full day of evaluation at doggie day care before he can even be considered for overnight boarding? Shall I bring in his LSAT scores, recommendations from former employers and his FICO score as well? In the car ride over for his evaluation I was worse than a yuppie mom lecturing her toddler about the importance of being accepted to a posh kindergarten. "Please don't punk a kickdog! Whatever you do don't lift your leg on a playground attendant. ASK before you sniff someone's ass. MANNERS!" Luckily he passed the eval and was invited to spend four nights there while I was out of town. I completely understand their reasoning for wanting to get a read on dogs before committing to watch them overnight. A dog could end up acting like me when my grandparents decided they wanted to pay for me to go to church camp when I was 9 - howling and crying and scratching until someone picked me up and took me home. The place is super plush - huge individual kennels with A/C, air filters and classical music piped in at night. Overnighters play with the day care doggies in the am, retire for "doggie siesta" in the lunch hours, then resume play after their naps. Mine is still exhausted and I picked him up 12 hours ago (see gratuitous husky porn shot). I called everyday I was gone to check on him as he had never been boarded before. The owners were never peeved about my calls and went out of their way to assure me that he was fine and filled me in on the details of his day. Howliday Inn costs as much as a Motel 6 in BFE, but it's worth every penny. Yes, just in case you were wondering, you should be so lucky as to come back as my dog in an afterlife. read more

11 year customer and happy as a clam, but it came at a cost.. (long review ahead) Unfortunately, I learned a hard lesson. 12 years ago I decided to take my 2 dogs on vacation with me. I was visiting my sister in Texas and was really enjoying catching up with my nephews and nieces. The next day my worst nightmare came True, I left my dogs in the care of my family in a new environment for a couple of hours when someone left the back gate open and my dogs ran off due to the crazy thunder, which they were afraid of. Well, needless to say, I was heartbroken. I never did find my dogs and I looked everywhere and did everything to find them. One dog was 8 the other was 3, they were my family. It still hurts my heart to think about it, even after all these years. I promised myself to never, never do that again. Because I was being cheep and did not want to spend The money to board my dogs, I live with the guilt of the loss of my wonderful pets. This is where Howliday Inn comes in. I had to find a place where I knew my dog Stella would have fun but mostly be SAFE. I've trusted this place for over 11 years and through countless vacations, I always come back home to a happy dog. The old Saying "better safe than sorry" right?.. Customer service is always understanding and caring, as well as true dog lovers ! My dog has special medical needs that require attention daily. Not a problem for the staff here, they totally Understand. Their New location is very convenient, especially If your flying out of PDX. The space is even larger and always very clean. I love this place. I have a very active lab mix that is also, quite an anxious boy. The people at Howliday Inn have taken the time and love to coax Jax out of his shell. Jax now leaps out of my car and paces in front of the door, waiting to be invited in, while previously he would be shaking and refusing to come out of the car. My boy comes home well exercised and keeps out of trouble at home because a tired dog is a happy dog. I brought my very well socialized dog to them earlier this year and she had a grand time as well. We started taking our puppy here a few months ago and we've always had a great experience. We love that they have a process for introducing new dogs, and whatever they did worked because ours has such a great time there. She always comes home happy and gets super excited whenever she figures out she's going there. Daniel and Pamela are always wonderful, as is everyone else there. We were a little nervous boarding our dog for a few nights over the holidays, but the staff was awesome and kept us updated on how she was doing. Our dog doesn't really like to eat anywhere other than home, and the staff was so accommodating. They tried all sorts of things to get her to eat while we were out of town. Leaving your dog for a few days is always tough, but we feel great knowing she's in good hands. Took my pup in for an evaluation and was so impressed with the service and process of the interview. They take the interview seriously so that no dogs cause harm or are harmed. I felt very comfortable leaving my pup for the day and won't hesitate to leave him when I'm out of town. It's good to know there's a great and safe place for him to go when I need him to be well cared for! Update: since my initial review, I have taken my pup for extended stays, one was 12-nights. We LOVE the Howliday Inn, but more importantly, our dogs do. What we most appreciate is how the staff treats our dogs like individuals. They know what one dog might love, another one wouldn't - and they honor that. They have a clean, large, well-staffed facility with outside space and an area for small dogs called Toyland (adorbs!) Their new website is super user-friendly - easy to book doggy day care and boarding. The new owner Dylan is so engaging and clearly loves what he does. My rating is based only on the fact that they wasted my time. They seem like nice enough people, and the place seems clean. If you're afraid a pit-bull is going to eat your cockapoo at day care, I'd recommend the Howliday Inn to quell these fears. Though I (clearly and specifically) mentioned over the phone when making my 'evaluation appointment' that both of my dogs were pit bull mixes, they informed me upon my arrival for our evaluation appointment that they don't allow pits. I'm sure there are all sorts of (lame) reasons why, but it was quite annoying in that I'd stopped looking for a boarding place after making my 'evaluation appointment' at the Howliday Inn. They went on to explain that they only banned pure-bred pits, and because my dogs were mixes they reluctantly agreed to let the dogs 'try out.' Roughly 4 minutes later I was told they'd failed. I guess they must have been a really rough few minutes. I assumed the evaluation was scheduled for a full day because most dogs take longer than a few minutes to get used to so many strange animals. I'm pretty sure if I'd had golden retrievers, they'd have been given a longer try-out. Had they mentioned on the phone they didn't take pits, I would have kept looking for another boarding place that didn't have breed restrictions and I would not been an hour late to work today. Now we have about a week to make alternate arrangements, and I had made the time line before our vacation quite clear to the proprietor on the phone when making the appointment. Anyway, if you're one of those people that crosses the street with your dogs when you see me and my dogs, this is the place for you. read more

Owners, Daniel and Pam and everyone who works at Howliday Inn are as sweet and caring as can be, not to mention truly knowledgeable not only about how to care for dogs, but about our dogs, specifically! They can recount what happened during the day, and are incredibly warm and friendly to us owners. Our dogs skip (and bark) into Howliday Inn at least twice a week for daycare (and don't look back!), and every time we leave, we know we're leaving them in good hands. I love this place! Everyone is so friendly. You can tell dogs are a passion, not just a job. My boy comes home tired, but not overly exhausted. They know how to balance play and rest. I feel incredibly comfortable bringing my beloved dog to the Howliday Inn. The owners/staff are kind and happy and it's clear they love what they do, and the facility is clean, open and comfortable. They are also very good at following up to let me know how my dog is doing, or to ask any additional questions regarding my dog's care. My dog is always so excited when I drop him off, and so happy (and pooped!) when I pick him up. And he's a breed that definitely lets me know if he's scared or hates a place. First they did a evaluation for a day and got a sense of how she behaved in "toy land" which are dogs under 10 lbs. First time there for evaluation. Everyone was super nice & attentive. My dog is a recue from a puppy mill & hated 2 previous attempts at day care. They handled her well & acclimated her slowly, at her own pace - first in smaller area with quieter dogs & then letting her roam out when she looked ready. I've never seen her adjust so well! She definitely had anxiety but wasn't frantic & traumatized like previous experiences. AND she didn't come home smelling like pee! This is the new facility in NE near the airport. Very clean & bright. There's a really large play area with open access to outside. Plus several smaller areas. The hotel part has individually walled spaces, is climate controlled & plays soft classical music under dim lights. I came to get an evaluation for overnight boarding, but now I want to bring her in for daycare. read more

I just moved here from Orange County Ca. and needed to find a doggie daycare for my lil 5lb chihuahua. When I came in for our evaluation, the Owners Daniel and Pam were so sweet, friendly and very very attentive. Their calm and comforting demeanor really made me comfortable as I was a bit hesitant to leave my dog at any daycare cuz he is so small. Seeing and hearing how much the Owners are involved and the love and care that you can just see from them and their staff really makes this place stand out afar from all the other doggy daycare's. They gave me a tour and I was even more relieved to see that they have a designated area for small dogs, which they call Toy Land lol!!!!!! We went through the boarding facility and its very quaint and seems very relaxing for a doggie hotel. Nice dim lighting, very clean and classical music playing! They showed me the daycare area and ITS HUGE!!! It has a cute lil patio area and it was so cute to see alot of the dogs out there sun bathing. My lil one comes very frequently now and he always falls asleep in the car after I come pick him up. I highly recommend this place to everybody!!! See you guys next week!!! read more

We absolutely adore this place! We have taken our little 10lb rescue boy here a handful of times now and he LOVES it and he is not a dog park kinda guy! He prefers people over dogs and can get easily overwhelmed being around lots of dogs. We shared this with them before we came and they were amazing with him, gave him lots of people love and slowly integrated him with the other dogs over his first few hours to make sure he was moving at his own pace and felt safe and comfortable. The owners absolutely loved Odie and were so sweet and loving with him, I have no doubt they treat him the same way we do when he's there and in turn he comes home a happy exhausted guy, it's a win, win, win! They are also very comparable price wise with any where else we looked into, had a few bad experiences at some other places before we found this gem! And they also offer discounts for buying visits in a pack. We love you guys, thanks for doing what you do!! read more

We have been bringing our 8 month old chocolate lab here for about 5 months. We love it there and so does our pup! Our pup is ALWAYS super excited to go there and is tired from playing all day when she is done. The staff is very nice and attentive and they always remember me or my wife when we come in and know which pup is ours. They are also good at responding to emails when you have questions. I love this place - my dog has boarded here a number of times, sometimes for up to two weeks and he loves it. Whenever I take him there, he runs up to the door and acts all excited. They also provide doggy day care, and dogs who are in boarding get to participate in day care, so they get exercise and socialization instead of being cooped up in a kennel. The owners, Pam and Daniel, are wonderful people - they are very warm and obviously love dogs. The rest of the staff is great too, especially Denise. My dog loves this place. Let me make that clear MY DOG LOVES THIS PLACE. as a pup she would go crazy as we pulled up, we had a 7 year gap as we lived in Texas and had our first day back...guess what dog is the happiest dog ever today, mine. We've gone to many dog boarding places over her 9 years and the difference here - big bed areas, big play areas and a safe environment. Most places in Austin made you pay per 15 min play time, here it's a like size play for all all day long. She comes home exhausted (and happy as a clam). Don and Pam, as well as the rest of the staff , are still super cool and love my dog too. I can't say enough great about this place. Side note, the folks citing being shocked by no pit bulls or pit mixes...please most places are this way. And frankly I feel safer for my dog they aren't there. I have my reasons based on many experiences not media hype. I'm sure their dog is the exception... But again, only place my dog has ever been crazy excited going to. Have to love it. read more

This is an updated review for the new location. Initially I was bummed the Howliday Inn was moving cause it was convenient for me to drop off our dog before work for his daycare days. Our dog really loves this place and the people so I did not want to change day cares/boarding places. However now that I've done the commute to the new location I was so excited to realize it doesn't take any more time! There is hardly any traffic around the new area compared to the craziness that is now the SE. Yay! After getting the tour of the new digs I was super impressed at what they did with the space! It is really well done. The hotel is bigger and they now have walls between each dog's "room." Both the indoor and outdoor spaces are bigger and better. The outdoor space now has wood chips which dogs always seem to like. Our dog loves to spend time outside so I'm sure he'll be putting the outside space to good use! My dog (and I) are really happy with the new digs! Definitely gotta check it out. Love this place! read more

Awwww! This place is so nice. The owners are so friendly and go out of their way to make sure your dog feels at home. I still can't get over how clean this place is! Some doggie smell but nothing compared to other places. The overnight boarding areas are also nice and big. My sweet girl has several upcoming stays and I couldn't be more comfortable. read more

The staff and facilities at Howliday are truly fantastic. You see right away how much they love dogs and want both the owners and their canines to feel safe and cared for. Our dog can be a bit anxious around new people but she quickly warmed to everyone and now gets very excited to spend a day at "camp". Ooski also spent a week there while we were on vacation and the staff were super responsive when we checked in to make sure she was ok. We tried a few other places but after finding Howliday we stopped looking. Can't recommend them enough. read more
