This place is hopping with a bar area in the front with a TV playing the olympics (since we were there during the London Olympics) and a bustling restaurant in the back. Luckily the place was pretty loud because the 8 of us were contributing to it. Service isn't bad here except our one waiter seemed to be understaffed and a little disgruntled. We finally ordered after waiting awhile and I got the short ribs. I am a sucker for short ribs and I'm pretty convinced it's hard to not make it taste delicious. The piece of meat I got looked really savory and I couldn't wait to take a bite out of it. To my dismay, the meat was actually dry. The Hoxton Grille, set on the ground floor of the Hoxton Hotel, is a classy joint with sleek lines and a gorgeous clientele. It has an impressive and extensive food menu and cocktail and wine lists, with staff who know what they're doing. It's owned by the same people who run Room in Leeds (which is somewhere I used to frequent!), and you can tell. Overall I was really pleased with this place. The staff was really friendly and the food was great and not too expensive. A solid place to satisfy a red meat craving that won't cost you your paychecky. We stayed overnight and decided to enjoy Brunch/Lunch the next day, taking advantage of the £13.50 for two courses deal. I very much enjoyed the starter of Bacon with black pudding Hash topped with a Poached egg. The main was Risotto with Mushroom and Spinach but it wasn't that special meanwhile my Partner had whole prawns with Fennel and Tomato. I can't say either of us were enthralled. I think I would have enjoyed a Lamb Burger more but in all the food was ok. The Waiter was friendly without being intrusive. The experience was slightly marred by seeing a Service Charge on the Bill I would have been quick happy to tip the guy. In all, if I wasn't eating here on the deal we were on (2 courses £13.50) I would not have paid more. read more

Cool place, but subpar food. Came here twice. Once for lunch when I was working in the area, and once for dinner. First time I had the beef short rib. Okay texture as it was fork tender, but it was just salty with no other prominent flavor. My friend's mac n cheese w/ bacon and jalapenos was pretty terrible too. The pastrami (salt beef maybe?) salad was a little strange. It was a salad with pieces of salt beef and gherkins. Second time I had the pork ribs. It was average in terms of utility bbq ribs. I think the location gives this place more credit than it deserves. The setting is nice, crowd is young, but the food feels like an Applebee's that doubled its prices. This place is great. The staff are truly lovely. The food is fantastic. It's a fairly smart hotel restaurant, but very reasonably priced considering. Main courses start at £10, and probably go up to £20 or £25. They seem to do quite a few special offers. I have eaten here for breakfast and evening meal, its fantastic. The staff are so friendly and the food is excellent and reasonably priced. My wife and I both had steak and it came on like a chopping board which we had never seen before, beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. It was our anniversay and was fantastic. Great venue, poor service! I have been a regular to this venue over the last few years. It is a great venue, in a good location with a decent crowd. The only issue I have is that the service has always been average, and it only seems to be getting worse. Bar staff talk to you as though they are doing you a favour by serving you. Grumpy faces and unnecessary attitude. The grill/restaurant staff are a friendlier bunch but are not as attentive as they should be. Often huddling as a group to laugh and joke etc. (Even on a busy afternoon), not clearing tables, and not checking on tables. There seems to be several managers on the floor, again, more bothered on being social with colleagues, or 'checking out' the female clientele. Great place, poor service! read more

I've had several (very different experiences) here at the cozy Hoxton Grill...nestled inside the Hoxton Hotel. The first: Room service while staying at the hotel. Absolutely great. Black bean burger with sweet potato soup, side salad and a Diet Coke in glass bottle delivered expeditiously to my room within about 20 minutes by a friendly redhead. No crazy surcharges. Very nicely done, I really enjoyed my dinner. The burger fell apart a bit, but the overall taste was very good. The sweet potato soup I liked so much I ordered on a future visit. If you can get over the consistency of purreed veggie soups (baby food! ack!) then you are in for quite a treat with this one. The second: Wandered over one solo Sunday morning (I'm embracing them, they're numbered!) to enjoy a paper and some hot breakfast. Enjoyed a very decent Full English for £10. Great service with a smile and strong Americano rounded out this meal. Exceptional service from start to finish, even though I lingered a bit to finish my reading. The third: Ventured back to sit in the lobby, work for a few hours, enjoy lunch and coffee. The wheels fell off a bit here. Yes, the fireplace was beaming me to higher levels of existence, the same home-like vibe, cushy chair, an outlet and fast wifi in which to indulge...but I literally could NOT get anyone to wait on me. I would've actually preferred counter service at this point as I'd like to have a few coffees and then lunch but pestering two different guys every time (with hours in between it seemed) I needed something started to get troublesome. I'd ask for something, the one would assure me it was coming and then I'd watch him amble around the restaurant for 45 minutes before coming back and not realizing that he had forgotten me. I'm not sure what the issue is...and it is still a lovely place to hang out (especially with the live music on Sunday afternoons, swoon)...but service in the lobby is a bit hit or miss. So rounding all those together, still a solid 4 stars. We live in the area so we will be back for dinner or to lounge I am sure...just be forewarned the service can range from excellent to subpar. The wifi is strong and free though, and their menu quite enjoyable. Great place to hang on a Sunday afternoon. Live music and a latte. read more

I've been to eat the Hoxton a few times. My favorite things are the shrimp burger and the quinoa salad with feta. The shrimp burger is a deep fried patty with lots of shrimp in it. I'm highly into it. Their cesar salad is also pretty delicious. Make a reservation because it can fill up with hipsters and other hip people. read more

They've ruined me for pork chops anywhere else (seriously, that was the best piece of pork I've ever had). Nice place to hang out with a group of people. The atmosphere and music is very nice but I had a food once and I didn't enjoy it at all, so -1star. Chips was burned and dried and my friend had a pancake which was so hard that she couldn't cut with a knife. It was a good laugh but I should say it was very bad food. A great spot for an ace night out. I have been here for two separate private events - once as a guest at my partner's business school alum gathering and once as a host to my business school friends. Both times I have been impressed by the feeling of spaciousness in an otherwise jostling-for-space bar setting and the relaxed atmosphere allowing for some easy banter over a wide variety of drinks. Definitely a place that attracts the banker/consultant/lawyer sort. Plenty of sofas and many private rooms which can host work gatherings and private meals for groups. My daughter and I went in for dinner on Sunday evening and they were not busy with many open tables. We asked for a table for two and we were offer a large community table for 8 people or a table in the lounge. We took the community table since my daughter did not want to sit in a lounge with people drinking and carring on. We felt uncomfortable from the beginning and not welcomed at all. There were many booths open with other parties of two and we could not understand why we were put at such a large table!! Service was very poor!! One server asked us for our drink order and I ordered a bottle of still water and he walked away never asking my daughter what she would like to drink. When another server returned with a bottle of still water my daughter then asked for a lemonade. The server said ok and asked what we wanted to order. We placed our order and he then asked my daughter again what she had ordered to drink. We did not feel as if we were a priority to him at all. Dinner arrived and it was very good!! If you are going for good food then this is the place. If you like dining and good service then this may not be the place for you. If you come with a 12 year old child this is definatly not the place for you!!!! While eating never did any of the twelve servers standing around follow up with us to see how our dinner was. We had another server ask if we were done and remove our plates.We decided not order dessert because we just wanted to get out of there. We decided to order room service and get dessert in our room. We are staying at the Hoxton for a week and will not return for any meals!! I've visited the Hoxton twice and very much enjoyed both visits, the most recent being New Years Day evening. In my opinion the surroundings are large & open but cosy & stylish, the atmosphere warm & friendly, the staff polite, attentive & friendly. We ate here both times and can highly recommend the food especially the Shrimp Starter which was the best I've tasted. We found the drinks a little pricey but maybe cause we're Northeners we struggle with Southern prices. I haven't stayed at the hotel or sampled their nightclub - maybe next time as we will return on our next trip to London, I'd highly recomend the Hoxton to friends looking for an enjoyable evening in good surroundings, however I would warn them to ensure their wallets are strong enough to handle the expensive bar even by London standards which is the reason I don't award the Hoxton a 5 Star rating. read more

Went for lunch on a Sunday with my girlfriend, have been for drinks in the bar a number of times before which were always nice. The service we received from our waiter was particularly poor. He was slow, couldnt really speak English. My girlfriend asked what smoothies were available and he didn't know and had to go and ask someone which took literally 20 minutes. I had steak tartare which was at best average, at worst a bit tasteless, could have done with more of a kick. My girlfriend's steak was alright, nothing special. One thing I would like to point out is that we are fairly young, I am 20 and my girlfriend is 18, we are well mannered and eat out regularly, however this being a Sunday, we were looking for a lazy lunch and not dressed particularly smartly, however I was still shocked when the waiter asked to have my credit card before the meal. I am pretty sure the pre-authorised it basically to see if I could afford the meal which I think is pretty appalling. When I tried to query this I was told by the waiter that it was standard practice in restaurants. I certainly have never experience this sort of thing before.
