I cannot speak highly enough of the care I received and the speed in which I was tended to. Absolutely first class in every area from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. Thank you Dr Nick Ciardiello and your team. Highly recommended to anyone needing a dentist in the Jersey City area. Ten thumbs up! Thank you!

I rely on public transportation, so it took me an hour and a half to get to my appointment--only to be blindsided and ambushed the moment I arrived. When I checked in, they handed me a bill for a $170 copay. When I asked why it was so high (my usual copay is $30), they told me it was for X-rays and other services. When I insisted that my insurance covers these, they casually mentioned that they no longer accept Aetna. I was shocked they hadn't reached out to tell me this before I made the long trip. When I expressed my frustration, the receptionist in the second seat toward the back had the audacity to tell me, "Technically, we don't have to tell our clients anything." That comment says everything you need to know about how they operate. Ethically and morally, a dental office should notify long-term patients if they drop their insurance plan so the patient can decide if they want to proceed with an out-of-network visit. Instead, they seem to operate on the hope that you won't find out until you're already in the chair. Be warned: I was told by staff that their plan is to go completely out-of-network and stop dealing with insurance providers entirely. If you have an appointment here, call ahead to verify they still take your plan, or save yourself the headache and go somewhere else that actually respects their patients' time and money. Very disappointed.

I scheduled a root canal consultation and 3D scan over the phone, provided my insurance information, and was asked to arrive 20 minutes early to discuss details. Upon arrival, the front desk staff were visibly distracted -- chatting and laughing among themselves -- and barely acknowledged me. I had to stand up multiple times to ensure I hadn't been forgotten. No one communicated an estimated wait time, and after 40 minutes, someone finally brought me to the back. Dr. Higgins briefly examined my mouth and recommended a 3D scan. I asked about the cost before proceeding -- both he and the assisting nurse failed to answer. After the scan, I was placed in a treatment room where a staff member, Sandy, presented me with a tablet to sign for nearly $2,000 in charges -- without Dr. Higgins having reviewed the scan with me or discussed any treatment plan. When I expressed concern and asked to speak with the doctor, Sandy appeared annoyed but left to retrieve him -- only to return alone and hand me the tablet to sign again. I refused to sign. Dr. Higgins eventually came in. I asked to review the scan together and hear his clinical assessment. He was unable to pull up the scan on the in-room computer where the root canal would've taken place and had to seat me in an outside chair to view it. The actual consultation lasted approximately five minutes. When I asked about next steps -- specifically the cost of a crown, which I learned would be performed by a separate dentist, Dr. Paek -- Sandy initially told me she couldn't provide that figure because it wasn't currently on my dental plan. Only after I pushed back did she produce a total: nearly $4,000. I asked to speak directly with Dr. Paek to discuss the crown before making any decisions. Sandy assured me I could, and had a nurse escort me to the front desk. There, three staff members sat in front of their computers staring at the schedule screen -- no movement, no eye contact, no acknowledgment as I approached and spoke to them. I paid the $385 I was told covered both the consultation and the 3D scan, and was informed the scan would be shared with me digitally. When I asked about speaking with Dr. Paek, I was told he was with a patient. I said I was happy to wait, and one of the front desk assistants -- without looking up -- told me flatly that he would be busy for an hour and a half. I left without having spoken with him. About an hour after leaving, I received an email stating the office had "graciously waived" the $250 3D scan fee -- implying I still owed it. When I returned to clarify, I learned that the $385 is a standard consultation fee alone for Dr Higgins, and the $250 is a separate, additional charge for the scan -- the opposite of what I had been told at checkout and I could've had this cost before any consultation and scan was done, and would've chosen not to do it. The lack of upfront cost transparency, the pressure to sign financial agreements before any clinical discussion had taken place, and the consistently dismissive attitude toward a patient's reasonable questions were deeply concerning. At every touchpoint -- from the front desk, to the treatment room, to checkout -- staff showed little regard for clear communication or basic courtesy. This office does not appear to prioritize patient trust or experience. I do not recommend it.

Maybe even 3rd. Before you even get to your appointment they're hooking you up with reminders so you don't accidentally double book yourself and have to choose between your dental health or an overpriced night out on the town. Speaking of town, if you live nowhere near Jersey City, but they take your insurance, you should still give yourself the privilege of being one of their patients. During your appointment they tell you the good, the bad,and the ugly in the nicest way possible and provide you with praise or education depending on your teeth and how many cavities you do or do not have. The place is high tech and you can tell they're using some military grade tech to get the job done. They even have televisions you can watch on the ceiling while you're getting the plaque scraped off of your lateral incisors. Netflix and Drill some would say. But I digress, onto the after your appointment : If you care about your teeth and being able to bite into a juicy well done vegan burger when you're in your 90s, this is the place to be.

Staff did not let me know I would be seeing a different dentist than the one with whom I made an appointment, which is an ethical breach in and of itself. TrueCare Dental also tried using high-pressure sales tactics on me, including the scam artist dentist challenging me by saying demeaning stuff like, "Well, if you can't afford it..." Fortunately I am not easily pressured. Went to two different dentists after to get second and third opinions, both of whom said I don't need any part of my mouth deep-cleaned (let alone a full mouth deep cleaning) and I do not need invisalign. I also only need one filling, not the six or seven TrueCare Dental insisted I needed. TrueCare Dental is a scam shop. Avoid at all costs.

I had a horrible failed root canal that led to 7 years of not seeing a dentist. Teeth were breaking, rotting, but they were in the back where no one could see. In February, one of my small front teeth developed a hole, it kept getting bigger. I finally got the courage to walk into Charming Smile Dental. I even made another appointment for the next day somewhere else incase I didn't feel okay. Let me tell you, Dr. Singal let me talk about all of my fears and anxiety, I cried and she held my hand. There was no judgement here, we just have to work towards a solution. By the end of the appointment we had done half of a deep clean & I was coming back the next day to finish. I cancelled my other appointment and kept going with Dr. Singal. It's been 4 months and we have tackled, a deep cleaning, 6 fillings, 3 root canals (from a specialist referral, they were also fantastic. No pain!) Now 3 fillings & 3 crowns. I have a new smile and a new life. If you are fearful of the dentist I am telling you to come here. She has helped me get my life back and there is no review long enough that could express that. I went in for my annual cleaning, and the entire visit went smoothly. A special shoutout to Ed, who was incredibly personable and took the time to educate me throughout the appointment. His professionalism and friendly demeanor made the experience even better. Every visit feels like a sales pitch where they try to upsell you on additional services and procedures. Going here honestly feels more like being pressured at an auto repair shop than being at a dentist's office. I continued going mainly because it was convenient and close by, despite consistently leaving frustrated after appointments. The final straw was when I had to cancel an appointment because of a family emergency, and months later they informed me I owed a $50 cancellation fee before they would see me. I paid it because I was already there for my cleaning, but I knew at that moment I would never return. What really pushed this over the edge was that just a few weeks later, my partner had an appointment there and the office called the same day to cancel because one of the dentists had a medical emergency. Apparently emergencies are understandable when it affects them, but not when it affects patients. To make matters worse, they recently sent an email announcing they now require deposits to book appointments because of patient cancellations. I have never encountered another dental office in Jersey City doing this. There are plenty of other dentists in the area that treat patients with more respect and have policies that don't feel so hypocritical. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is because they once gave me a free electronic toothbrush during a promotion. Thanks for that, at least.
