Today was my first visit to Lotus Smiles. Having moved to Jersey City a few months ago and gone to the same dentist my entire life, I was a little hesitant about finding a new office and wasn't sure what to expect. Fortunately, my experience exceeded all expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly welcomed by the staff and even given a tour of the office, which immediately made me feel comfortable and at ease. I went in for my annual cleaning, and the entire visit went smoothly. A special shoutout to Ed, who was incredibly personable and took the time to educate me throughout the appointment. His professionalism and friendly demeanor made the experience even better. This place is genuinely terrible, and at this point I would strongly recommend people in Jersey City look elsewhere for dental care. Every visit feels like a sales pitch where they try to upsell you on additional services and procedures. Going here honestly feels more like being pressured at an auto repair shop than being at a dentist's office. I continued going mainly because it was convenient and close by, despite consistently leaving frustrated after appointments. The final straw was when I had to cancel an appointment because of a family emergency, and months later they informed me I owed a $50 cancellation fee before they would see me. I paid it because I was already there for my cleaning, but I knew at that moment I would never return. What really pushed this over the edge was that just a few weeks later, my partner had an appointment there and the office called the same day to cancel because one of the dentists had a medical emergency. Apparently emergencies are understandable when it affects them, but not when it affects patients. To make matters worse, they recently sent an email announcing they now require deposits to book appointments because of patient cancellations. I have never encountered another dental office in Jersey City doing this. There are plenty of other dentists in the area that treat patients with more respect and have policies that don't feel so hypocritical. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is because they once gave me a free electronic toothbrush during a promotion. Thanks for that, at least. read more

Be prepared to receive an education on proper dental hygiene and habits. You'll get interrogated on how you brush and asked why you don't floss daily. Once you pass level one. The next boss delivers an extensive sales pitch on costly services you would consider luxury and probably don't need. I really enjoyed the interaction with one of the dentists she was very kind. I switched though when I noticed some billing issues and I couldn't stand the high pressure sales culture. I have two friends who have experienced similar issues at Lotus Smiles. I will even mention on of these friends is a senior citizen in his 70s. There are some highly suspicious billing and crediting practices at this office are I would never recommend this place to anyone. It's been a total mess dealing with insurance companies and billing. I know finding a dentist can be frustrating, but I would highly recommend not choosing this office for your dental needs. read more

First off want to say it was incredibly easy to set up my appointment via their website and they have awesome availability for later appointments! Went in tonight as an extremely anxious and nervous dental patient in pain and with tons of dental issues. Every single person in that office from the front desk, to the dental assistants in the back, and the woman who helped me at the end was absolutely amazing! I was so anxious and they all did a wonderful job in trying to help me stay calm and reassuring me. Dr. Milman was incredibly kind and took the time to truly explain to me and show me the science behind his recommendations. I got straightforward information (but still felt absolutely cared for and not just a number) and left with a detailed treatment plan and even options for the financial part of it. I will start off by acknowledging I had a difficult tooth extraction (four), and that my teeth were not what anyone expected. What should have been a two hour procedure was five and a half. While Dr. Cha did finally remove all four teeth, there were concerning issues throughout the day that were preventable. 1. Lotus Smiles did not have any nitrous oxide on hand. I am autistic and have sensory issues regarding my mouth and sounds like drills close to my ears. This is not the first time I've told care providers at this establishment. I requested it several times before the procedure. They removed one tooth on anesthesia alone as a test, and I felt overwhelmed and anxious. That was when they found out they had no nitrous oxide. Why were they unprepared? This procedure had been scheduled well in advance. 2. Several times during the procedure, Dr. Cha asked for specific tools that were unavailable. The office had taken radiographs of my mouth prior to this appointment. It seems reasonable that they could have had every possible tool available that would have been required. 3. The dental seat in suite 1 was wobbly during the procedure, and Dr. Cha commented on it, concerned for my well being, i.e. accidentally rocking me and having an issue with a tool while in my mouth. 4. I asked several times ahead of my appointment for a price on my procedure, and they claimed they were waiting for my insurance to get back to them. The day of the procedure, I finally had a number. I learned, "Do not expect a number ahead of time." Hard to know if this was an issue with insurance alone. 5. I am also a medical care provider, and so I understand when a condition or intervention becomes so difficult beyond expectation that it can feel overwhelming and frustrating. Dr. Cha made several remarks during the procedure that made me doubt his skills, and I found myself verbally cheering him on. This was a survival tactic (I was very anxious) because it seemed at any moment he was going to give up. That stole confidence from me that he could do this procedure. 6. Dr. Cha recommended I take acetaminophen and ibuprofen together. It is against good medical advice to take those two medications closer than an hour apart. They could interact in a way that interferes with my healing process, or could have other deleterious effects. 7. Dr. Cha was the only dentist present for the entire clinic, and split his time between me and several other patients throughout the day. While I expect that the difficulty in removing my teeth contributed to this scheduling issue, it seems ill-advised to not have someone else on hand. I am happy that the procedure was overall successful, and Dr. Cha demonstrated empathy in making sure I had breaks, enough anesthesia (though given my sensory issues and that anesthesia seems to wear off quickly, I was often in pain), and that I was as comfortable as could be. The techs/assistants were great and handled me well. I understand not everything goes as planned; that's why it's good to be prepared for eventualities. Update: Renee, the office manager, reached and heard my complaints. She offered me food from UberEats, to pick up my prescriptions, and to arrange another appointment for follow-up with Dr. Milman the owner. I will be taking them up on that offer as 36 hours out from the procedure, I still have numbness. I am now concerned about nerve damage. read more

We provided both of our insurance details when making the appointment and were told they were accepted. However, as the appointment approached, we received a random text saying our insurance was not accepted. This is incredibly unprofessional. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I strongly encourage people to read other reviews--this place engages in bait-and-switch tactics just to make a quick buck. The name "Lotus Smile" makes sense; I'd be smiling too if I made money off of deceiving people. Ignore the high ratings and focus on the average and negative reviews to avoid falling into their trap. This place is highly disingenuous. They deleted my earlier post so I am reposting since they doxxed me and chickened out after I consulted legal counsel: You won't intimidate or scare me into deleting a review that reflects my actual experience. You ask for respect, yet you scam and lie to elderly people and others in dental pain, knowing they can't book elsewhere last minute. You even doxxed someone over a review because you couldn't handle the criticism based from your own actions and questionable principles. Your staff asked for our insurance details, and we provided our PPO/DHMO information, including our policy numbers. We were given a quote based on that. We were never asked to send in our insurance information again because you already had our numbers. It's good to see that Yelp has revealed your true review status, preventing you from falsely inflating your ratings as others have suggested. Update: They decided to remove my personal information which was posted on their website after they were threatened by legal action. I am not grateful because it should not have been done in the first place. This was wrong and the staff should be appalled that their owner would do anything like this. Think for a moment what they would do behind your back just because you may have hurt his feelings. Readers beware of this establishment, unfortunately it took the threat of a lawsuit for them to remove and modify their entire response. If you experience this do what we did and back it all up on a folder that you will have on hand in case of any escalation. Good luck to all here, you'll need it. Pleasant staff and dentist. Not a fan of how they operate. They've got all the new shiny toys and gimmicks to hook you in.. but save yourselves and don't fall for this spot cuz they'll surprise you with a vicious bill.... One that doesn't make sense, especially if u have good dental insurance. I question their standard billing procedure. It's borderline unethical. This office charges the patient before checking/working with the patient's insurance. The office will tell you that they'll refund the difference. In my case, I never received these refunds. I was frustrated by the lack of price transparency. They overcharge for everything. Despite insurance, be expected to pay. Wanted me to pay 300+ for a night guard that was covered at another dentist. Charged 750+ for a crown with insurance. These are some crazy prices. I have top grade MetLife dental insurance. They really push Invisalign here. I've never been to a dentist that operates like this. Most dentists are very clear in what is covered, not covered, and out of pocket before getting the patient to commit / operating. Honest dentists try to work with their patients. Terrible billing principles. But they get away with it because of the demographics of DTJC. Free money. Don't go here. They practice the ancient art of "Bait and Switch", where they quoted me a price of $200 for a cleaning which I paid when I arrived and was told by my "hygienist" that I had to get a "deep cleaning" which would require two visits at a cost of $1200! I was told that the money I paid was now just for the examination and that they "couldn't" do a regular cleaning, only the more expensive "deep cleaning" Now I'm out $200 and my teeth haven't been touched. It's abundantly clear they are a business and not a doctor's office. They try to upsell and charge for everything possible. They care about profits more than anything. The hygienist I had was extremely insensitive and made rude/presumptuous comments about my teeth and dental history. I also had a different dentist each time I went, there is no consistency here. I'm giving two stars for wonderful staff and for the former service. I started going to Lotus Smiles in 2018/2019, I received the Invisalign service, and was really enjoying not only service, but how Dr. Millman paid attention to detail with his clients and the work they need. Then, something happened to them. As time has gone on, and they switched offices, I don't know when the priority for clients changed. When I first started going, I had great insurance and with time, a pandemic, and age, I no longer had it. It's endearing that they tried to get me to get dental cleaning and saying "it'll only be $100" (with no insurance) - I'm sorry, but I need that for rent. Once my Invisalign treatment ended, I never heard from them to check up on progress or after care. Then, I finally got some insurance, I was so happy that after all this time I could go back to an office that treated me well. I double-checked to made sure they took Horizon Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and they said yes. It was confirmed and I was again, excited. I wanted exactly what was covered in my insurance - one adult dental cleaning. They urged for X-Ray's, and got my bitewings (which were covered by my insurance). THIS IS WHERE THINGS GET INTERESTING - a blonde woman says that since I haven't had X-Ray's in so long, they should just do it and charge later (behind my back). I'm like ??? and the tech, sweet woman, is like ??? that's not covered under her insurance?? and the blonde woman just walked away. Tech comes back, reiterates that the blonde lady wanted them done, I'm thinking "my insurance is good, I should be good". I get my cleaning, wonderful job, and I get a two second visit from the Doc saying I'm fine. MY BILL CAME IN TODAY AT $300. I don't know what wires got crossed, or how they expect someone who is not at a financial advantage to want to get dental care if this is the aftermath? Why was my procedure marked as something different than what it was? And ok, sure the X-Ray's are one price, I let her get away with that. But Prophylaxis? Huh? I am confused and really hurt by this office. I even have a little bump in my lower tooth leftover from the braces. I went to check and their office was closed today. I'll call tomorrow to get more information. An adult cleaning was 1000% covered and yet somehow it wasn't be their office. Don't fall for it! If you are financially struggling, this is not the place for you. You should be upfront if you don't take someone's insurance and only do what is in that insurance plan. Then, mark it up accordingly. I wish they were more transparent about their teeth cleaning offer. I was walking by and they had an ad that said teeth cleaning and exam for 185.00. At the end of the exam, they said they couldn't do the teeth cleaning but I would have to come in for a deep cleaning that would cost me almost 900.00. I wish I knew this ahead of time because I was paying out of pocket and walked out of there paying 185.00 for an exam with no cleaning at all. Dr. Milman is exceptional at his craft. He and his team knew I was apprehensive about dental visits, but they all managed to keep a very calm and friendly environment. The care from Dr. Milman and Dr. Kim was pain free. They prioritized the client's comfort. If I can give a negative star, I would. I've never been to a dental office that feel like scam before. First, they tried to sell you the product that you do not need without a reasonable rationale behind. Second, they charge me for the fillings but didn't completing the service. I only went there for one filling and I'm done with them. I already paid my portion and 5 months after they called me and said I have an outstanding balance of almost a thousand dollars? Like it doesn't make senses if I use up all my deductible how am I able to cover by other services at other dentist office after that? And why does this take 5 months for them to find out? Feel like a scaling process to me. They also overcharge you comparing to other places. I moved to Jersey City over a year ago and haven't moved my dentist over until I found Lotus Smiles. I did a quick search on Yelp and found them instantly. I called and was able to set up a same day appointment. I was blown away by many things, their office, customer service, the TOUR around the office. Sure they have many amenities, but what's left a lasting imprint was Lewis/Luis (how ever you spell his name) the dental hygienist was one of the best I've ever dealt with. I've had cavities filled and teeth whitening done at Lotus Smiles. The Good: 1. The staff and doctor are very nice people and explain everything they do during fillings/whitening. I can't take that away from them. 2. Teeth Whitening was fine. I had chemical burn on my gums, but it went away and I was happy with the results. It's not a complicated process. The Bad: Cavities. There is one cavity I had filled that I've gone back 3 times for an adjustment on, and it still hurts A LOT. It stopped for two weeks (of course I didn't feel it when I went in for the teeth whitening) but then came back. Even if I just press my finger on my tooth it hurts. Never have I been back to a dentist for an adjustment, but I understand them and that's why I returned. But more than once? More than twice? That's a little crazy. Not to mention the pain is excruciating every time I've gone back (they can't use Novocaine because they need to know the area it's hurting). At this point I'm forced to spend more money and time on another dentist. We'll see if it's a bigger issue than just a filling. read more

I was a patient...until about 4:55 today. I arrived on time for my 5:00 appt only to be told that the doctor had an emergency and someone left me a voicemail this morning...a voicemail I didn't check because I was working and Lotus smiles ALWAYS CALLS MY PHONE....so I figured just another telemarketing type call asking me to come in although I have an appt (it's happened before) But they called to cancel. Fair enough...not really but ok. What annoyed the heck out of me is that this practice will call my phone incessantly soliciting appointments. Not because they particularly care about my dental health but of course because it's all about the money. To which I say, if Lotus Smiles can ring my phone down to say "you're due for an appt" then they should ring my phone off the hook with such fervor to ensure I don't leave work early, pay PATH fare and walk in 90+ temps just to be told "we left you a voicemail". I have two personal numbers on file and a business number. AND I received one of their numerous texts for appt confirmation...I got one at 3:00!! The flippant attitude of the office personnel is what really annoys me. When I mentioned said text and asked why they couldn't text me a cancellation she said "his wife called you and she isn't text savvy". Not good enough. It's 2018 and this is a business. Have someone who can manage things accordingly. If it's already a given that the one making the calls isn't tech savvy how about you or someone else follow up on all cancellations for the day? How many calls or texts is that to send???? Under 20??? Easy work and super professional...it's called great service and management. I can't stand a bad attitude when it comes to customer service and that is what I got this evening. Her dry apology after I returned (I walked out but then returned to show the 3:00 text and express my disgust with her attitude) is what's wrong with businesses. She was completely unbothered about what happened and that the doctors lost three patients. I referred two and we all won't be back. It's a shame because I was pleased with the hygienist and the dentists. The two stars is for today's front desk who is in fact the face of the brand in many respects....and a wrong and strong attitude doesn't fly. No business gets my money once they let me know my money doesn't matter. And they over billed my insurance before too...but I let it go. All they had to do today was extend a gracious apology and sincere explanation rather than being defensive and matter of fact. There is nothing matter of fact about me leaving my office an hour and a half early and going to Jersey City in summer heat when I live in another part of NJ. I am a very agreeable and understanding individual who gets that things happen...however in business customer service is mandatory, not optional. It's 2018 and reviews and recommendations for good dentists are easy. I no longer live in the area and I work in NYC....so I came BACK to them bc my cleanings were good....but I've had comparable cleanings before and will again. Just not here. Lack of courtesy killed Response to business response: One call was received by my phone on 7/10 at 10:03. NO call was placed to me by this office at 2pm. Total fabrication. And I stated quite clearly my issue is not with Dr.Millman. Lastly, cancellations I made were done properly as to be courteous to the business and respect the doctors time. Had I not been courteous I would have been charged a fee. Courtesy rather than unbothered and blasé is what's being referenced in my review. I found this place for my hubby first, while I was trying another dentist. Now I switched to Lotus Smiles too since their new office looks a lot nicer and my hubby likes them. I also tried them before but it was ok..,however this time I had a good experience with their hygienist (a lady's name Alina?) who was very thorough and knowledgeable...I even like her more than the dentist lol but they all worked together well and were very efficient during my appointment. I went there with my wife for a regular examination and clean up after checking that the office did take my insurance as well. Before my visit i also checked Lotus smiles website which mentioned that they have a new patient package for $99 which includes exam, x ray and cleanup (valued at $390). Upon arrival the staff was very kind and treated me nicely. Well that's the end of good part! I had left early from work to make it on time for my appointment and was made to wait for over 40 minutes! During my entire cleanup, x ray and examination of over an hour (excluding the wait time) Dr. Millman precisely spent around 1-3 minutes with me, rest I was only in the hands of the 'support staff' who did precisely everything. The few minutes which I spent with Dr. Millman were rather funny. He came, examined the X-rays and almost immediately started advocating aligners for my teeth. (Let me tell you, I have pretty straight teeth and there is almost no need of their exorbitantly expensive 'Invasaline' aligners for me). I patiently heard him out and then asked him finally, if there's anything wrong my teeth in general? To which he said everything seemed normal. I then told Dr. Millman that I have a 34th tooth which perhaps needs to be extracted as I sometimes get pain cause of it. He then went back to the X-Rays and said that he completely missed it! He seemed least interested in the actual problem whatsoever and suggested that I setup an appointment for extraction and that he'll do it. He ended the conversation by once again urging me to buy the 'invisaline' aligners and left the room. Soon an assistant came in to give me a detailed description, cost, methodology and benefits and what not of guess what..'invisaline' aligners! Next day I called them to schedule an appointment for the extraction, the front desk lady told me she'll get back with to me with a time. She then called me back and said that Dr. Millman can't do the extraction and that I'll have to go to a dental surgeon! Now to top it all up, 2 weeks later I received my bill which although should have been free and 100% covered by my insurance however since Lotus Smiles sent me a bill that exceeded $400 (on website it said $99) I had to pay the difference Out of pocket! Wish I had the time and patience to sue these frauds, but I just hope you won't buy in to Lotus smiles' fake reviews and make the same mistake as I did. My son, who has extremely sensitive teeth, he can't use an electric toothbrush because it instantly makes him angry, went to Dr. Milman for the first time to have his teeth cleaned and six cavities filled. After the appointment my son said to me, "At a regular dentist, the pain and discomfort would have been an 8 or a 9, at Dr. Milman's it was a 1 or a 2." "Worth the money?" I asked. "Absolutely." Let me preface this by saying that I am not a dentist person. Not that there are "dentist lovers," but I am particularly uncomfortable and anxious at the thought of dentists. I had my first appointment with Dr. Milman at 7pm one day last week and I was pleasantly surprised! Firstly, the fact that they are open that late made it so easy to work into my schedule.
