I have used Kamani on two separate occasions and both were positive experiences. The work he performed was switching out light fixtures & ceiling fan, hanging a huge two piece medicine cabinet & hanging a curtain rod. He's very responsive, shows up on time and does good work. Update: the medicine cabinet that he installed fell off the wall on top of me and almost knocked me cold! The flimsy anchor he used came right out of the hole. In addition, the light he just installed in my closet no longer works. When I notified him about the medicine cabinet feeling like it shifted when I opened the door on Friday morning, he said he couldn't come until Monday. I even sent him pics of where it was pulling away from wall and he didn't feel any urgency to come and take it down even if he didn't have time to reinstall it. 4 hours later it fell off the wall while I was using the sink! Yelp doesn't lie. I mean, sure, sometimes people exaggerate, but not in the case of Kamani. The larger the sample size, the harder it is to maintain a perfect rating. To retain five-star status, you've got to consistently provide excellent service--the best there is. It's just science. Kamani--so good that his one-man shop dons the sought-after name "NYC Handyman"--is the best you can find. Quick and efficient, well-equipped and delightfully personable, Kamani is great at what he does and despite only being in his early 30s, he's been doing it a long time. We just moved into a new apartment. Why did we move? A big reason: our old apartment was somewhat cavernous (not in a good way) and this new spot promised a return to sunlight--huge windows in both rooms. A plethora of natural light is great, except when you want to wake up at a time other than sunrise. So we needed our curtain rod and brackets installed ASAP. Our bedroom window is a bit tricky--it would seem two brackets would do the trick, but an 8+ feet long curtain rod adorned with four blackout curtains is probably not sustainable. Kamani figured out how to install the third bracket on the window frame to lighten the load and all looks beautiful now. We also needed our TV mounted. I've had my TV mounted at three different apartments before, and this was the fastest I've ever seen it done. An articulating wall mount--at least to a civilian like me--looks very complicated. Maybe it was, but Kamani figured it out in minutes. Hardware: you should certainly keep all of the fixins that come with the items you need installed. Screws, bolts, washers, whatever. But Kamani came super prepared, too, with his own big box of tools, parts, etc. In the case of my curtain, Kamani's materials were better/sturdier than what the vendor of my curtain rod had supplied, so I appreciate the thoroughness/generosity there. Lastly, the guy's just a great dude. Incredibly nice, smart, fun to talk to. I'd bet there are thousands of people in this city who claim/advertise that they can do this work. I can't speak to the quality of the others, but Kamani is a-one. You'll get what you pay for (and the prices are fair) and maybe you'll end up a little happier, too. read more
